How To Properly Install Porch Post Columns
HTML-код

- In this video, I will go through the steps on properly installing porch post columns. This method can be used for new installation or replacement of existing post and/or columns. I will be using Simpson Strong Tie Post Base and Red Head 5/8" x 4-1/4 anchor bolts. A hammer drill and 5/8 concrete bit will be required to drill into the concrete. If mounting on wood, the post base is not required.
As always, thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching!
You’re back!
Yep!
Just the video I was looking for, I have to replace 4 post. this issue with the trim at the top being 4x4 and the post being 6x6 is exactly what I was running into.
Glad I could help. Thanks for watching!!
Thank you!
Ron you are gifted I think you could do really good on mink rehab maybe show how to fixed those holes and how to do countertop and backsplash I think if you could do those three things you would have good content you did a great job
Thanks for the suggestion on content. I’ll be over there soon enough.
Thank you
I’ve never heard somebody say they’re gonna jack something down before lmao🤣🤣🤣
Thanks! 👍
Bruh Ron!! Nice Job!!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!!
???? Susta here would like to know what type paint to get for bathroom cabinets and how do you take the center broad off in front of the sink?
Valspar cabinet and furniture paint but be sure to prime first. Used Valspar bonding paint for the primer.
Center is sometimes clipped on, stapled or glued. Watch the video on the tip out tray to see how I removed mines.
Ron, you’re very skilled & Thank U, for that Toe Screw Method, because the Lord knows that I’ve skimped 💃on the Kreg Jig & have Spitt some Wood in my day! 😂… but, I still got the Job DONE! 🤗😘🙌 Tell my Sis., that I said Hellou! God Bless!
🤣🤣🤣 Yep, it’s the little things. Sharon says Hey!
Hi Ron, You have mad skills, I bought a Roybi Airstrike brad nailer, so excited about a tool. By the way Roy JR is touching the ceiling so I am going to have to give him a hair cut. I hope I don't hurt him. lol 💪Abort. 😂😂
The column end cuts should have been field treated with preservative after being cut. Pressure treatment does to fully penetrate the column.
ALWAYS wear eye protection when drilling concrete …. You never know what might be flicked up towards your eyes!! Never risk your vision!
HEY RON!! GREAT WORK BY A GREAT MAN WHO HAS A GREAT WOMAN BY HIS SIDE. LOVE Y'ALL AND THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS INFO RON!🤗🤗🤗💕💕💕💪💪💪💯💐
Thanks for watching!
Awesome content! Quick question I was hoping to put up a post as a light support. How sturdy would that base be if it didn't have the support on top? It would only be a 4x4, probably 8 foot high.
Thanks!
With the post brackets and some beefy screws, a 6x6 or 4x4 sits pretty sturdy.
Nice
Hi Ron I think you could a house from ground up. Thanks sharing.
Thanks for the compliment!
Thxxxx🎉
If you nail it to the top and anchor it to the bottom, what will happen when that distance dramatically flexes due to expanding / shrinking clay?
I think you could make good content on Minks rehab.
Thanks for the nudge. 💪🏾
Awesome job done 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽💛💛💛💫👋🏽💎🦋🇬🇧
How much weight does the bottle jack have to be rated for if you're doing posts for a covered patio? A 4-ton is like $30 but a 50-ton one is like $900!
Looking to do something similar. Where can I buy a hollow wood post? Also, did you end up wrapping the post, top and bottom with anything?
Post came from Builders First Source and wrapped the bottom with 1x8 and top with 1x4.
Can I just cut a 4x4 on a slant and jam it in under the porch for support then install the new one. I don't have a jack to use. Will it work this way??
Maybe…However, you can get a bottle neck jack from Harbor Freight for little of nothing. Use the jack so you don’t hurt yourself or damage the header.
If you are replacing posts but it's settled and sank over the past 40 years. Am I fine to raise back to level? My carport has sank roughly 3 inches and it's time to replace the posts. Thank you.
Yes, it’s ok to jack it back up. Just take your time.
Great Job💪💪💪 Can i hire you❤
Hi what are the posts made of?
Where did you buy the posts, Ron?
What about applying some type of adhesive to the top of that post instead of having those toe screws showing?
Typically you cap over the bracket and screws like I showed at the end of the video but whatever works and is long lasting!
How are you sealing the concrete? If water gets in that whole you drilled it will freeze in winter and crack the brand new porch. Asking because I am in the same boat!
Installed hundreds of these and haven’t ran into that issue…
@@rontalley thanks, that’s Good to know! I’m just gonna throw in some epoxy for peace of mind.
Where did you purchase those column post?
Builders First Source
They are called Cox Columns and other vendors supply them and even some big box stores.
😊👍🏽
Thanks for watching!
How much can you charge for this type of job ? I have client who is needing replacement. Labor only
$175 per post. $225-$250 if they are skirting.
First. Aunt Cheryl ❤
💐💐💐💐💐💐🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉. CHERYL 💞
Great job nephew!❤
Hey Auntie! Thanks for the support. 🙏🏾
Hey where did you get the mount?
Builder’s First Source but you can find them at the big box stores like Lowe’s and Home Depot.
@@rontalley thank you brother! I’ll be changing mine and mounting this weekend
Use the hammer function on the drill. Much faster
I’m pretty certain that I was using the hammer function. It’s just not an SDS so it’s slower.
Hey I'm from Sharon Channel😍💪🏾maybe you could help Minks 😉 😊
👍🏾
Now come do mine please
🤣🤣
Make all things better
Thanks for watching!
Me, thinking I could easily do this 🤡
Nice job. Thanks.
Thank you
