    Those 'L brackets' used to secure the base of the column to the decking needs to be made of metal, not plastic. If you noticed, when Norm screwed the second bolt in, the plastic L bracket cracked. That is the manufacturers fault, not Norms or Tommy's.

    • @cup_and_cone

    • @Engineer9736
      @Engineer9736 3 года назад +1

      @@zaneblane8160 The decking is to be walked on, it’s not meant for keeping the house up. Sure it can (until the deck rots out) but i guess officially you have to connect structure to structure, not structure to finishing. If you ever need to replace the deck then the roof has to be jacked up again and temporary supported until a new deck is in. You don’t want to be messing with jacking up parts of your house forever. Also, now they have cut off the columns too short to ever make it to the structure, so the homeowner is doomed.

    • @petebusch9069
      @petebusch9069 3 года назад

      @@zaneblane8160 The column is structural, should last indefinitely and should continue all the way to the ground/footings and most likely does but not visible in the video. The decking will have to be replaced at some point and is sandwiched in the structure of the columns requiring taking the whole thing down again. That and those connections are about as minimal as a person could get. I'm not sure but is that type of decking rated to carry the load sitting on it or will it crush, some composites are crap, if the decking is wood it should be OK but still, why sandwich it?
