You any good at acting Richard? Idris Elba wants the 007 job, but you're the real life James Bond. Fixed Wing, Rotary, I bet you have done a few track days in your time... 😁👍
Brought back memories. I flew the Phenom 300 from 2013-2017 in the USA. I've flown a wide variety of jets and the Phenom is one of the easiest to fly. We had a lot of issues when the jet was new but eventually they all got ironed out. My only emergency was a zero flap landing at Colorado Springs caused by a computer failure. Not a big deal since we had a 13,500 foot runway. It was actually one of my better landings. Memory aid for how to spell Embraer: -Every -Mechanical -Break -Requires -Another -Electrical -Reset 😉
Funnily enough (or not) we had exactly the same problem! Turned out to be an FCE1 glitch which can apparently happens occasionally. Like the acronym ! Will have to use that in the future! 😁👍
@@richardtyrer I forget which computer it was but we had "SWPS FAULT" and "SPOILER FAULT" and yellow X's on the flap indicator and pitch trim. We were at FL430 and the trim stayed engaged so we knew that indication was wrong and were hoping the flap one was too. But on approach when we commanded flap extension we got nothing. I sent the SIC back to visually check and confirm and also had him brief our 2 pax.
Whoa I learned a lot from you! I fly Phenom 300 in xplane and find that it needs quite a bit of AOA on landing like 3 to 4 degrees so essentially you pull the yoke back on approach. But once at 50 ft you put it on idle and it does not need to flare at all! Not sure if this is the case in real deal.
That is what they teach you on the initial training. It does work quite nicely as the engines are pretty small so in the event you need to go around the spool up time is pretty short. You do tend to vary that procedure depending on outside conditions tho.... 😁👍
I thought the same as Chris Wood. You do possess a voice that could give bad news and it be totally okay. “Hi Greg, we have winds coming from the north, and you’ve got six months left to live” 😂 😂
Deep in ATPL hell and your videos are the best motivation there is, keep it up mate. What were the FMS disagree cautions you were getting on takeoff and landing?
Seems like a long time ago when I did mine! Best of luck, it's worth it in the end! So we plug in all the weather data into the FMS before departure to calculate our V speeds, but its extremely sensitive. 1 change in hpa or 1 degree change temperature it will give the caution. We get it on roughly half the flights we do. As long as the speeds match what we calculated pre flight we are happy to disregard it!
Thanks for sharing. Poor that Oxford Radar didn't terminate your Traffic Service before your transfer to London. Especially as they were then only willing to provide a Basic Service.
Thanks for watching! Yes it was a little bit of a strange handover but I think words maybe got crossed when busy as it was the first time I experienced that while operating out of there. The guys are really good controllers, but I know it's very challenging for them with a big mix of traffic and uncontrolled airspace!
@@richardtyrer Fair enough. A lot to be done in a short time when your approaching controlled airspace. Do you ever fly in to MAN? might speak to you 👍

Hey! Good luck with the ATPL's! I do fly helicopters, it's where I have most my experience. I don't fly them as much at the moment but enjoy it when I do!
Great videos. Best I have seen of the panel and actual flying use of the avionics. What is the brand or source of the GoPro clip you use with your camera? It seems stable and easy to clip on and off the panel lip.
Great vid as always Richard cheers! At 30:09 when ATC cleared you to cross the stop bars, how often does that happen? The PPL theory books I’m reading make a big deal that you must not cross lit stop bars, even with ATC clearance. A quick look in SERA says that in event of technical fault, the bars have to be physically disconnected from power supply or physically obscured… I guess in practice that is not taken so literally 😄
It's one of those grey areas. Sometimes airports will NOTAM it, saying ATC will provide a positive crossing clearance, but on other occasions they will just mention it over the radio. Yes I will do it, but only when there is no doubt! 👍😁
Thanks! Ah.... I have a real mongrel of an accent! Technically I'm a Northerner but I have picked up a few random bits while I moving around the I was young!
Thanks so much! It’s a really fickle system. We get used to it, but happens on about a 1/3 of flights! 👍😄
