  • I thought I'd have another look at the mighty SEAT Arona and why it's the best of the crop.

Such a good little review, he fizzes along and keeps things going forward at pace with enthusiasm, engaging chat and facts to-boot. Relaxing departure from the numerous lazy formulaic motoring journos - thank you. Classic line you were surprised at the dinky engine made it move.... Big L O L s!!!. I bought the 1.0Ltr DSG 115 turbo and it's astonishingly good. Coming from a 1.6i 16v Astra, this German engineered Spanish styled beauty is the same power, but more torque which I find just amazing. Passengers say it's, "like a TARDIS", and, "beautiful looking", when they find out it's got a double-clutch, one said, "oh, so it's a Porsche!!"... Got a great deal on a automatuc metallic paint mystery blue model with low mileage and 2 years still on the Warranty. Automatic breaking, parking sensors, awesome infotainment, LED rear and DRL's, remote activated windows, double boot, tyre pressure monitoring, SatNav, stop/start, cruise control, low emissions & ULEZ compliant, *both* front seats have height adjusters, auto-headlights and ambient footwell lights and in the phone cubby-hole too, even has wireless charging. AndroidAuto blends so many technologies together so you can bin your Bluetooth FM Transmitter and mobile phone holder... This couples together and even offers your Phone's Apps integrated to the car, best is Google Maps and Waze with ability to layer audio on top: Amazon Music, BBC Sounds or my fave "Podcast Addict". I chose SE Technology trim level to keep in budget so don't get things like Dual Climate Control, full frontal LEDs, electrically folding mirrors, auto dimming rear view mirror, rain sensing wipers, digital cockpit, parking cameras, front parking sensors, Chrome detailing, bigger alloys, adaptive cruise control,. But I can cope without if I'm saving 2-4 thousand pounds. Especially as it's low insurance, 5 star encap, 57mpg combined that would go down with bigger wheels. I've struggled to find fault..... No rear interior lights, the rear view mirror is slightly in the way for me (6'4" with a high seat), Samsung has pulled MirrorLink support, keys can bang into your knee at high seat position. I was swayed by Kia's 7 year warranty but eventually plumped for a SEAT and with the great VW owners I've made a great choice I'm finding more and more each day. Great review my man 👍🎯

      Good choice of engine.
I might pop over for a look in Paris, I’m not sure if I’ll have time yet

So the big question is would you consider one as a replacement for your Leon?

Yes it would, I don’t thing I’d be driving it for 12 years though.

Small engines are in Ford ecoboost, psa does puretech 3cyl engines. VW offers a 1.4 with cylinder deactivation (1 cyl in some driving). So small engines rule in tiny SUV but fuel prices, lower vrt and car tax and mpg make diesel still rule.

The small ecoboost engine in the Ford has been recalled, and Ford have admitted they have serious problems. In my opinion small engines in big cars means more stresses on the engine, higher pressure fuel systems, more heat to dissipate etc. etc. Not good long term

@@johnrees8322 Not sure where you buy cars but based on a check of the US and UK websites, they sell the 1.0L ecoboost in the UK and the 1.5L in the US as engine options. Doubt they would be recalling the engine if they officially still sell the engine (the 1.0/1.2l is world engine of the year for the last 4yrs).

should show in cars the acceleration by aiming camera at speed dials, give viewer a better idea how well a car accelerates. I like the Arona but i still think these type of cars are pointless, unless its the styling your into

Not that I've found at ≥70mph in my 1.0Ltr SE Technology trim, or in a demonstrator at over 80

These compact SUVs have to meet three criterias: to be easy to drive, practical and stylish. The last one, I think, is where Arona struggles - it has a "leftover" design from Leon and Ateca. Which is a shame.

The problem with these vehicles is that they’re just fat superminis and still can’t pull caravans just like the superminis!
The Skoda Yeti was a legit small suv!

It might be good at what it does, but looks good it does not! It's hideous!
