In our 2015 interview with lead singer Stephan Jenkins, he described this song as "a noir about a guy who jumped off a bridge and killed himself because he was gay," adding, "It was really about bullying."
Netflix just added Yes man and I re watched it for the first time since it came out on theaters. Made me remember how much I love this song, fucking legendary. Keep you heads up kiddos ✊🏽
The lead singer of this band is still alive... Stephan Jenkins has said that the song came from a story 3EB's manager told them about a guy that was a friend of his in highschool who was gay. Being gay wasn't accepted where he lived and the guy ended up committing suicide because of it. The song is also about difficult experiences Stephan went through during his childhood.
I busk often (performing in public for tips, in my case, acoustic guitar and singing), and I've had this song requested literally a dozen times in a night, three of which were from the same person (I probably spent a good ten minutes that night explaining to the guy that I didn't know the song), so I think it's about time I learn this.
@@roebucksummers8614 I learned it, only to discover that none of the people requesting it knew or cared about anything after the intro-chorus. It’s still fun to belt, though.
Stephan wqas one of the best things to happen to the 90's, he was truly unique in his style and lyricsm. He deserves our respect regardless off what he songs like live. If he thought like you maybe "3eb" and "blue" albums, would never have been written. And i can't even begin to think how unfortunate it would be if he never graced the music industry. Cheers.
almost... i love this type of music, and play guitar so i like learnign these songs.. but ur right i didnt no that band until i saw Yes Man. this song is great.
Love this song... Jim Carrey has messed it up for me, I always hold the notes to long when I sing it, lol. I feel like he should've actually recorded a cover though!
That high vocal note is so clean and good… I’m assuming Stephen has a lot of different singing qualities to his vocals I’m not sure he’s showcased before in songs (in studio form).
Yes! When I heard it the first time that's exactly what it reminded me of. It's really the same 'theme' I guess, and they sound pretty similar on an acoustic guitar as well.
Don't hate the movie. As a fan you should be happy that there are people actually becoming fans of Third Eye Blind. I know I have heard people do songs by artists I've never heard before and it made me want to look at all the music that artist has done. So, stop knocking the fans of Yes, Man. You should be jumping for joy that Third Eye Blind has more fans because of that movie.
I almost feel wierd commenting about this. This is a great song, however Jim Carrie's "cover" in Yes Man makes me sing and shed a tear EVERY TIME I see it.
It's popular because it was playing on the radio all the time when it was released and still is played... This song wouldn't have even been in that movie if 3eb hadn't made it what it is.
Jim is a great actor. Jut when he sings it- it is to happy to represent the meaning of this song. To stop someone from committing suicide would not be pleasurable.
Tony! He’s going to make that acoustic play that solo damnit! That guy is a phenomenal guitar player, most people don’t know that he can seriously shred.
All I have to say is, for how many drugs he's probably on and done, he can sing this good in his own respect. Stop hatin', and learn to appreciate music. I'd love to see anyone try to do what he does as well as he does and get as much appreciation.
@WiFeSLaYer - Right on! It is a sad state of affairs when most people relate a great song to some movie, commercial or TV show. I grew up in the 90's too and I know this music means more than that. I would bet that this song has saved some lives and that is incredible! Suicide should not be taken lightly, and far too many people do. Prayers and thoughts go out to everyone who has been effected by depression and is, or has, thought of suicide. Especially our military folks, come home alive please!
The Sessions@AOL overlay and bleached Guy Fieri style hair gives this video an overall vintage Web 1.0 sheen...someone literally probably downloaded this on the Pirate Bay on a Windows XP, later wrote it to DVD along with 50 other music, "videos," (because it was shot on actual video) which probably took hours to finish and then a few years later uploaded it to RUclips (also taking hours to finish because their internet speed was probably around 1MBps in 2009).
i don't know why you got 2 thumbs down but you're exactly correct on your judgements... when they performed Jumper on the Letterman show, They were awful but i saw them back in August when they came to Seattle, and they have improved their live performances.
This song still brings tears to my eyes. When someone is having a tough time in life and talks suicide, do just more than tell them I Will Understand. There are 1-800 numbers. On the web there are counseling groups. ● sorry Ralfie . I failed you. ● ● ● ●
this is really live. The studio processes until perfect. The jumper scene (YES MAN) had been dubbed re-recorded enhanced, etc. I don't know for sure that he could play or not. It was a classic scene though and it was amazing. Third eye blind made it possible. I don't know if they wrote it or not but they desirve much credit for popularizing it.
@risoxford12 haha well put. i'm 18 and i first started to listen to these guys when i was like 7 or 8. these guys and sugar ray were like my first favorite bands. and the goo goo dolls.
this is the song that saved my life more than once
Hope you're still around and okay ❤️
Bud you here 10 years later?
Killer performance. I don't know what music would be like for me if it weren't for the 90's.
Amen
One of the best songs ever.
AOL !! Haven’t heard anything about that in a Long Time!!!!!😳. Great performance!!!
whenever someone mentions this song i always picture jim carrey saving luis guzmán’s life :D
Yeah right...Yes Man...what an underrated movie.
H
@@christianfernandez3374 I didn't know it was underrated. It is such a great movie! Everyone should watch it.
The drums in this song are great, Its really put together. I love it.
Everyone's got to face down the demons
Maybe today
We can put the past away
jenkins is always phenomenal but hands down, drummer's the chillest dude here
In our 2015 interview with lead singer Stephan Jenkins, he described this song as "a noir about a guy who jumped off a bridge and killed himself because he was gay," adding, "It was really about bullying."
Music is so beautiful what an awesome way to connect with your friends, express yourselves, higher frequency stuff than our everyday lives
Netflix just added Yes man and I re watched it for the first time since it came out on theaters. Made me remember how much I love this song, fucking legendary. Keep you heads up kiddos ✊🏽
I’m about to watch it on Netflix, seen the preview and made me want to listen to this song lol🤪
Really important and helpful. Tears in my eyes as I realize how lucky I am to be here. Life is important, hold on, and help someone.
I really dig his chorus turnarounds. Very nice

That drummer is on point, makes the song.

@@herby190 Good to know that. Stay safe buddy.
I absolutely love this song
its just plain awsome
This is a really meaningful song.
I Really Love This Acoustic Version...I Think It's Better Than The Album Version...

Those vocals of Stephan Jenkins! That was great! 3:32
That Gibson SJ looks fantastic
this song gives me the chills
Really good. Nice to hear this version
Fucking fantastic song. Always loved 3EB, even though I have trouble understanding 80% of the lyrics in their songs... Haha. Great band.
Thank You! I agree completely... remember this is an ACOUSTIC version meaning its different and he still rocks it.
Yes Man!
Agree.
Today, and it has been like that for awhile, jazz is THE genre which requires the most talent and skill.
the smirk at 2:45 hahaha
this song takes me back to my childhood and i love it
false. just cuz he didnt sing it in the exact same way as the album version doesnt mean it was terrible he didnt miss one note! he sang it great
almost...
i love this type of music, and play guitar so i like learnign these songs..

Best comment on anything ever.
i like this song.. two thumbs up for this perf. love 3eb =)
Remember when AOL was a thing? Lol
breon johnson What's AOL?
Still is.
It doesnt matter whos better. You have to give respect to the original artist. And respect to Carrey for doing it justice
if jim carrey made an acoustic mix to this like he did in yes man i would listen to it.
That high vocal note is so clean and good… I’m assuming Stephen has a lot of different singing qualities to his vocals I’m not sure he’s showcased before in songs (in studio form).
Would be much better if Jenkins didn’t screw over Original Guitarist Kevin Cadogan
This is one of the most beautiful versions I have ever heard of this song. Stephan's voice is arousing...well... not only his voice... :)
He's just singing lower notes. They are still on key though.
Yes! When I heard it the first time that's exactly what it reminded me of. It's really the same 'theme' I guess, and they sound pretty similar on an acoustic guitar as well.
Needs more Luis Guzman

It makes me sad that I would rather listen Jim Carrey sing it 😂😂😂😥😭
Definitely a classic
