Matt Schrampfer they should without a doubt build for the future. Dodgers are a powerhouse that aren’t falling anytime soon, padres are on the final stretch of a deep rebuild, and the d backs are pretty decent. They don’t have a great farm and they don’t have any tradeable talent at the big league level. Best move they can do now is sign some veterans to 1 year deals hoping to flip them at the trade deadline for prospects. Rinse and repeat a couple years until the farm is stocked, then start adding real big league talent.
The Red Sox drafted 3 of these guys and none made it to the show. Coyle, and Cecchini were promsing for a while but fell off the radar. I was wrong Cecchini got 35 mlb at bats.
The comparison to the Miracle squad is a little bit... hmm, over the top. The gap between the SU and the US team was far greater, witness the number of players for each side to play in the NHL... and the Soviets had to defect to get there

The expenditures are astronomical and only rich kids can navigate this without assistance.
