Dang this is one of the best uni-vibe's i've ever seen! Great demo and video my man
Pete, recently discovered your channel and I just can't say enough great things about the brilliant work you are doing. Quite simply, yours are the most polished, professional, interesting, usefully informative and musically creative guitar "demo" videos on youtube. Period.
This appears to be the month of discovering incredible Canadian musicians on youtube - yourself, Ian Thornley and this amazing kid named Jason Deraps. Whatever they're feeding you guys in Canada seems to be working.
Pete, you really are what I call the consummate professional. Technical mastery combined with professionalism and infinite creativity and most importantly, the ability to effectively communicate. On nearly all of these points, I put you in the same grouping as Satriani, Timmons and Gilbert. Pretty nice company I think.
Plus you seem to be a really, genuinely nice guy.
Little wonder your resume is what it is.
Guitar Nerd is a wonderful CD and has been on heavy rotation for me since I bought it. But I am now eagerly awaiting your new SOLO release!
Hurry up dammit!
Cheers and continued success to one of the guys who truly deserve it...
-mariusar
Joe Satchton thank you so much!!
This intro is worth a song on is own, I mean honestly, we rarely hear something that good
A fuzz and a vibe... I am in tears! Fantastic! Pete, you are the best!
Love it. Always so many different styles in your videos
You've got excellent tone in those fingers of yours
Some tasty licks bub. There are so many of these demos that should be leading to a new album. Thanks for all the time you put into these reviews. Picked up many pieces of gear because of you.
Pete, you’re sounding funkier than ever. Great guitar brother!
Love the sounds and playing, Pete. Always something to enjoy in your videos
Kjetil Gilje thanks!
Having owned a Roger Mayer VooDoo Vibe in 2001 and replacing it with a Captain Coconut II in 2004, AND having known and played with guys who had original Uni-Vibes back in the 70s (when I couldn't find or afford one), I can tell you that this is the best vibe I have ever heard.
Dude, I think you are totall right. I had a 2000s PE Vibe Unit that I really liked. The I got an MJM Vibe but it had low headroom. I recently re-purchase a 90s PE Vibe Unit, but it is too dark, does not have enough chew, plus the sweep is a bit bumpy at it's highest setting. I am selling it to get one of these. I really like what I hear from this Drybell.
Ok, I just sold off for the second time a Prescription Electronics Vibe-Unit. I just ordered this pedal. I think you are right on. I heard this pedal and think it sounds the best of breed. It'll be showing up in 3 days.
@@grungebox do you still have the pedal? I have the vibe-unit and like it more than this Retrovibe I got. Wondering if I should sell and get this
@@brianenders2098 What he said… ^^^^ lol
Great playing!! And one of the sweetest Univibe's i've ever heard! Before the video started, i thought it was going to be a Vibrato pedal.
Another great tune Pete. I could listen to that all day driving at work.
As always you really show all the best features of a pedal/fx and make me want one...
Beautiful playing, Pete.
That intro was phenomenal, Pete!
Great demo! Thanks Pete.
Looks like my vibe addiction needs another fix! Great job Pete! Sounds awesome.
Awesome video. It’s done. I’m getting one! Great playing too!
Holy Sh*t!! great tone and playing in the intro!!!!!
Sounds fantastic. I have a dejavibe, but it's huge. This will save me some room on the board.
Absolutely killing on the intro tune...
My dream vibe!
Some of the best tones yet. Super nice job... Now put out a new disc...pretty please.
Damn you Pete...seriously breaking my checking account with your videos. Keep up the amazing work. It feels like I'm at a friends house of one of the various touring acts I work with...not big box sales pitchy.
Jason Power thanks! That's what I like to hear, I try and keep it personal and not like a commercial.
Great video and music as always Pete. Could you do a video on how you make your youtube videos, like what is your camera setup, how many cameras you got on you, lights setup etc etc? Your videos are great themselves on their own so if we could learn a little on that aspect, would be a great help!
Love the sound after 8:43 ... sort of nails that sound that I loved on early Robin Trower albums...the Bridge of Sighs era. Especially "Too Rolling stoned".
Another kick ass review Pete!
Your alright mate!
wow sounds really nice...and top notch playing, as always.
thanks!
amazing!
Great Info Pete Awesome!!! Very Informative !!!!
Another great video Pete!
Daniel Roberts thanks!
Would love a tour of your studio!
Pete- I see amps and guitars! Thank you so much. I hope you didn't set all that up on account of my previous comments. Please break out the emplexador sometime soon and keep rocking out cause you're truly inspirational!
Ha! I was thinking hmm, maybe I should shoot from the other direction.... simple move really...
If I don't stop watching your pedal demos, im gonna go broke
So melodic and fluid. Nice! and that's just the intro....
Thank you mister, that's short and informative
another stellar demo... your guitar playing gets me excited.. energized.. inspired to play. Also.. that pedal sounds awesome.
jim phelps thanks Jim!
it's humbling to see you demo anything...
The pedals cool but I'm saving this video for the playing. That was some really stellar shit man!!
That tasty intro riff...so much groove.
Jason Maddy thanks!
I went digging through my old CD covers...
Yeah, you're one of my favorite guitarists from long ago, I even searched your name from memory. I guess I forgot you didn't have your own band since all of my best CDs were stolen and quit emulating what you did.
Man, you're sharp enough on guitar to make me quit after hearing you demo the pedals... I guess there really isn't a bad setting of a pedal in the right hands.
Nice review Pete. Pedal sounds great, but I’m not digging having to use a screwdriver for those critical adjustments like output volume.
azguitar: This isn’t totally directed at you. I have heard this same complaint a dozen times. You don’t need to touch it. It can be left in the recommended position. The side screws are for ultra fine tone tuning. I mean very fine tuning. I think people are making a great feature into a problem. Most pedal makers would have just left the fine tuning off the pedal all together and you would never comment or know anything different. I have this pedal on my board before my Kingtone Fuzz (Germanium) and just after my Jam Wah, (I never use them together) It is absolutely killer with a clean or full blown fuzz.
amazing playing!!!!!!
Thanks!
Robin Thrower! with a twist cool the way the effect changed without changing the basic sound.
I love Vibe pedals with some extra features. The original is a bit dark, and doesn't rotate slowly enough for me. I have the Earthquaker, The Depths. It has a Bass and treble control. I'd love to get one of these, but $350 shipped vs $200 for the depths is too rich for my blood. Great review though, it sounds amazing.
I always see a pedalboard in some of your videos in the background that has what i believe a soundblox modulator, is it part of your regular rig and what kind of sounds do you use it for?
And you should have it demoed
I like the new haircut Pete. Looks good!
Have the v1 of this and love it
Me too. Its a Killer - Michael Caz - NYC -
Hi, Pete! I'm saving up for a V1! Just wondering:
1) How does the low-end fare? (I play 8-string guitars, mostly clean, and w/ a Mad Professor Fire Red Fuzz)
2) Should I place the VM first, before my Fuzz (front of amp), or in the effects loop??
Thanks! :D
that intro...wow!
very cool intro!
just have an off subject question Pete. Enjoyed a bit of your demos but was curious if youve ever been in any mainstream popular bands and if your in a band now?
hey pete what is your strats pickups dude and you are great guitarist
Sorry I'm late - You sir, are the guitarist's guitarist. Video top notch as always.
Just bit the bullet on this pedal, approx Dec 7 2021 delivery.
Cool riff
gets the robin trower sound
what are the best 2 VIBE pedals (quality-versatility) ??
Sorry if I missed it, but is this pedal external power pack only or does it take a 9v battery as well?
Bad ass!
I really need tab of that part with overdrive , just perfect with that pedal 😭
Wow. Pete, you are a really polished, professional musician. Steely Dan would be happy to record with you. I want this pedal now. *Sigh.* It's only money, right?
Very hip! Lava lamp extra??
hello Peter, i'm from Brazil !!
Hi Pete. Cool demo as allways. Couldn't help seeing the blue light flashing on your Suhr Reactive Load. Are you using impulse response in this demo? If so could you please elaborate on software, cabs, mics ect... Best regards. Martin
Martin Klaja yessir, Suhr Hedgehog into the load, and I use IR's.
Pete Thorn Hi Pete! Thanks for taking the time to answer ny question. This IR thing is really awesome and a fantastic tool for homerecording. Which IR software are you using?
It sounds very similar when I plug in to my toaster. It's a Fujiwu based on the classic G.E.
Question:
I like my red Vibe Machine 1 but is there a vibe pedal in the world which opens up your sound like a H&K Rotosphere?
I've NEVER heard such a widening sounding pedal in my life! It makes my two Marshall 4x12 300W stack sound like a wall full of Celestions!. It's unbelievably good Leslie pedal.
I wish there was the same kinda vibe unit available.
Really cool intro tune
Thanks so much!
Wasn't the original shin ei univibe designed for keys?
Great demo, don't know if this has been answered in a previous comment, but when you kick it up for lead in the intro, is that a fuzz you're kicking in or just the amp?Sounded amazing
Robert Hales that's just the amp, the Hedgehog's internal drive and I had it cranked quite high
Pete Thorn Christ!!! That's dam good, you'd swear it was a fuzz in places. Might have to invest in a new amp now ;)
Love your demos Pete! Just wanted to know, do you buy all the pedals you demo or are you given the pedals to demo by the manufacturer?
RonnIE O. He gets them sent for review. Watch the Q&A videos. Pete has it going on.
Ron, It is his job, along with being a studio guitarist and individual performer. Being the GOAT for pedal demo’s, I am sure he hasn’t paid for a pedal in years. It would be like Tom Brady having to buy a Patriots Jersey.
T. Dunleavy makes perfect sense.
Mada in Croatia! Support support!!!!
Of course....less than six months after I finally plunk down for a Vibe Machine V2 comes out!!! :(
Krausewitz that's the world of pedals for ya. Just enjoy your pedal and rock out :)
The Original is still phenomenal. One thing I have learned about Music / Electronics ( as I play several instruments ) . . . " You can't Chase chase technology " - ( you will always Lose ). There is Always something New & Improved. Sometimes you just have to Be Happy with the One you have. If this never came out, . . . you would still love your Original. - Michael Caz - NYC -
That's how I felt when I got my stone deaf pdf and the pdf-2 came out shortly thereafter. Look at the bright side... new pedal versions must always have new bells and whistles. Next thing you know, your twisting dials and hardly plucking strings.
Amazing pedal that Vibe is.
I should have read the reply comment above first. Dude said pretty much the same thing as me in. A YEAR AGO! Smh
Am I allowed to say this? Nothing beats a univibe pedal with actual photocells. Some other great univibe pedals out there too (w/photocells), such as: Oxfuzz Oxvibe, Sweet Sound Mojo Vibe, Fulltone Deja Vibe.. but the Drybell is right there at the very top.. awesome pedal!
Hows the noise floor, white noise?
Hi Pete, is this song in any of your albums?
I had the V1 and liked it. I will say l accidentally left it on from Saturday night til Monday morning and it cooked the pedal. I sounded weak to dead afterwards. Make sure you remember to power them down.
Did you get the pedal repaired? Just curious..
Shredded so hard that his eye quit giving a fuck
hello pete, i think the tone you got from the boss super overdrive was excellent
thx for all you do
can this be compared to Deja Vibe and Uni Vibe?
It does the original Uni Vibe better than any other pedal. I've owned three other high end vibe pedals, sold them off and am getting this pedal.
Regarding the Deja Vibe, it does not come close to the pedal. It's overpriced crap.
Hey Pete, those drums? are they the ToonTrack EZDrummer ones you were talking about via facebook and instagram the other day?
Marc Hayes yes this is the Toontrack EZdrummer 2 drums
thanks, bro! they sound great and I'm eyeing them up for myself.
Hey Pete, when might the Mateus Asato video be coming out? :)
Cody Carrig i'm getting the footage today and hope to have it edited within one week
Great demo! You should get a cut of the $300 I just spent to purchase this killer pedal. 🤘😎
Hey Pete any chance of you reviewing the Donner Prince Viberator?
Here's another take on it. @
hey pete, i see this drybell is awsome but have you had any experience with jhs unicorn? if so what are your thoughts?
Really nice, versatile vibe. Would love to win it on a contest, at almost $800 USD on ebay, I won't be buying one any time soon.
It's 300
Lol yeah agreed. 300. Don't use ebay as a price guide. That place is like the wild west! Reverb.com a V1 vibe machine.. and save yourself a mortgage payment!
Cross fingers for Giveaway! So cool! Come on chicken dinner!!!
WOW, and I just about to jump on VillaNOVA , this one looks like a better option.
Don't rule out the Villanova-- while also photocell based it may not sound quite as authentic Univibe-y as the Drybell (and I found that getting to its sweet spot took some judicious tweaking) but by having top mounted controls that duplicate some of the trimpot functions of the Drybell it makes it much easier to adjust on the fly.. It's a good value for the $$ in comparison as well..
whoa new hair cut
Yes, looks cool actually!
So did you leave suhr or what?
No! Why would you think that..? Used the Hedgehog for this whole vid!
and the reactive load! you can see it lighting up behind me
Medical Marijuana? Too much medicine perhaps?
You have been playing lots of other guitars. Just makes me wonder about the dynamic of your endorsement deal.
I don't mean any of this negatively.
I use different Gibson LP-type guitars when that tone is called for, and as far as 25.5 scale guitars- I occasionally use my old vintage Fenders (66 Tele and 64 Strat), the Strat you hear here I've used and owned for 10 years, it's in lots of my vids. But if i'm not playing one of these 2 vintage Fenders, you see me with my Suhr guitars which are my main 25.5 scale Fender-style instruments! My main 2 Suhrs (Black with 2 humbuckers and sunburst classic with HSS) are over in france, all year, as i am touring there on and off until December. So i don't have them in the studio right now, they are my main road guitars! Hope this makes sense. I still use the white classic S in many vids, recently, as well as my Green Classic S (just used in a Ramble FX Fuzz vid recently). And for anything other than Vox tones i'm using Suhr amps and their reactive load in almost every video I do!
Sounds like James Marshall
Do you ever use your bassman these days? I can't remember any recent mentions. Makes me sad!
Not much, I just feel like my PT ch1 always sounds similar but a little better!
There are two types of musicians in the world.
One who is the music, and has their own signature sound. Their own unique style. (They define music and write a chapter in history )
And the other is a musician that just knows music theory and technique well enough to play okay..All though they can pick up a guitar ,play it and get by as good ,they are not the music.,( there own signature sound that adds a chapter in music history).I see people doing the same runs up and down the fretboard.Altough somewhat different it can't be identified or classified as much different from the other person.
A good example is historic places in our world. There are the people who have knowledge about history and travel because of textbooks , versus being knowledgeable about history and places from actually experiencing the journey and visiting there.
I'm not referring to the musician on this channel, I am just saying to all musicians ..if you're going to do something you might as well be different at it make an impact.
Like a Pink Floyd tribute band that spends there whole life duplicating Pink Floyd. Now if you're going to play other people's music the rule of thumb is this you either do it different and better, but you don't do it the same. And definitely you don't do it worse. I've seen people that are Pink Floyd tribute bands that actually play it the same but lousy.
Remember if you're going to play someone else's music you want to play it much different and better, but not the same.
And definitely not the same song but worse ! The same song but you can't play it is horrible.
It's funny how in mainstream society there's so many Legends in their own mind.
Woo hoo Croatia! My home country known for olive oil, beautiful women and vibe pedals!
This is true. All of it.
Can you get this thing to sound like a Leslie ?
That was the original intent of the pedal, but it did not sound like it, so it was left alone and called a Uni-Vibe pedal.
$300 ! Wow. Expecting $200
i've heard far better. My own Univibe build ;)
Great pedal. Awful haircut.
