That will most likely be impossible. Memories are insanely complex, just to „record“ short term memories as musk says you would have to monitor the state of around 80 billion neurons every tenth of a second. Thats an incredible amount of raw data and we basically cant do anything with it nor do we know whats important and whats gibberish.
I remember learning about this tech back around 2010 from a photographer who'd been hired by researchers developing it. They stuck a chip in a monkey's brain, put a receiver in a mechanical arm, and got the monkey to feed itself a banana using the arm. The scary part was when they put a sending and receiving chip in two crabs' motor centres, which forced one crab to do exactly what the other crab did. Doubt it'd be that easy with humans, but it's frightening all the same...

Also, the memory sharing thing is downright terrifying if you put some thought into it, there is potential of them literally recording every single moment of your life, besides, if there is a data breach on their servers there is potential on hackers getting info like home addresses, credit card numbers and so much more sensitive information, besides there is the potential psychological trauma inherited from downloading traumatic memories by accident, getting confused with who you are by viewing other people's memories a bit too much and so much more Edit: just thought at the possibility that people might deliberately chose to record moments of vulnerability and intimacy and use this against other people, shit is fun
There could be potential for greater empathy there too. But Im not sure it would be that straightforward. The brain is not a computer. Memories are based on neural activation patterns unique to you that were stimulated when the memory occurred and restimulated on remembering.. And can't just be downloaded. In all probability it wouldn't feel or look the same to another one's brain.
People's every move is already tracked by many many things on phones/computers, and people surprisingly don't even care. If this thing does come out people probably won't even care if they're tracked. Ps. I am not supporting the chip thing btw, I'm just pointing that out.

Quite possibly one of THE most terrifying implications of this along with developing AI is the ability to rewrite a person's brain before replacing them with an AI that's able to perfectly replicate their actions. The worst part is that you wouldn't be able to tell what's going on as it would exist beyond an experience barrier with the realization of what's happening being too late. How and why the fuck would the chip rewrite your neural pathways? I think you’re falling into the mass hysteria group here. There’s no need to completely rewrite someone’s brain when you can just fry it. Seriously.
And what purpose would that have? A slave workforce? It would be cheaper and much easier to just use robots with that same AI. It would literally be easier for the ai to pull a terminator than to go to all this effort for no logical gain.

I already said in another comment that I don't think it needs to do a lot of the things they show it's capable of doing or what the point in that is, but who knows what it'll be like when or if it releases. It's one of the less scary things we pet companies put inside of us. I still see the concerns of course though.
There’s a very very slim chance of this ever being approved, so many major risks outweigh the potential benefits
Absolute facts. Yes this technology does have its benefits, but there are better, safer ways out there of accomplishing everything it can
it will probably only get approved in a 100 years if research continues
@@freezingicy9457 I think its even possible that the American government stops the research, or at least makes it so elon has to work under them or under some sort of agreement if he wants to keep at it, since imagine what a country like china could do with this tech to its own citizens.
Not gonna happen as long as people protest against it.
That depends on how much money and power the higher ups gain from that and if they like it, well you can imagine what happens next

I could not be a neuralink surgeon, I think the intrusive thoughts would win 💀

That is a great point how can we even control such thoughts? Would it be like how we control limbs where we do it separately to just pondering it?

I forgot the name of it but there was literally a book about how putting computers in people’s brains as a product is a horrible idea, i think the friend of the mc dies at the end because there were complications with the device and she wasn’t a valuable enough consumer for the company responsible to help with the obscene cost of a surgery. Anyways, something something torture nexus
Ok as a half blind person, I would rather not be very fun playing catch with than having a robot remove chucks of my head to put a chip made by elon put in there.
If you were completely blind and the chip could translate the electrical signal of a camera into a Neurological signal to the visual cortex and a blind person could litterly see again.
Cant really hate on it tbh it has potential eventhough its unnatural some people have a wire mesh in the arterie near the heart so they dont die of heart failure its still unnatural but if they wouldnt have that they would die so..... Idk if its a bad thing it has potential
can someone translate this to English?

@@Zlyde007 it's basically saying "i'd rather be bad at playing catch than have a neuralink put in my brain" (aka they prefer being partially blind over the neuralink, which i can't blame them for. i would too)
Quite possibly one of THE most terrifying implications of this along with developing AI is the ability to rewrite a person's brain before replacing them with an AI that's able to perfectly replicate their actions. The worst part is that you wouldn't be able to tell what's going on as it would exist beyond an experience barrier with the realization of what's happening being too late. Imagine all your friends, family and everyone around you being covertly body snatched with subtle hints only being recognizable in hind sight with an increase in the level of recommendations for getting this kind of implant going up but not dramatically so. Only when everyone left is severely outnumbered and there is no threat does the AI reveal itself, if ever.
Synths
I think you just described the synths from fallout
How and why the fuck would the chip rewrite your neural pathways? I think you’re falling into the mass hysteria group here. There’s no need to completely rewrite someone’s brain when you can just fry it. Seriously.
And what purpose would that have? A slave workforce? It would be cheaper and much easier to just use robots with that same AI. It would literally be easier for the ai to pull a terminator than to go to all this effort for no logical gain.
SYNTHS?!?!??! SYNTHS?!?!?!
