The reality is non-biological minds are at most 20 years away, and that is being conservative, after which point the whole thing will become proliferative. This isn't a technology that we can choose not to have, that choice is removed from us. What we can choose is to implement it correctly. It will be the biggest security challenge ever and we better get it right.

change is always scary cars are scary and kill people all the time, we still need to drive. guns are scary and kill people all the time, we still need them to protect ourselves.
society will advance weather we like or not, and this is the logical next step to technology and the step after that is when we all become cyborgs and then eventually discard our flesh entirely or bio-engineer ourselves into a more advanced lifeform, but I digress. I remember learning about this tech back around 2010 from a photographer who'd been hired by researchers developing it. They stuck a chip in a monkey's brain, put a receiver in a mechanical arm, and got the monkey to feed itself a banana using the arm.
The scary part was when they put a sending and receiving chip in two crabs' motor centres, which forced one crab to do exactly what the other crab did. Doubt it'd be that easy with humans, but it's frightening all the same...

@@sefronsuper There are so many companies already like that. Including a ton most people already do give that much power. People literally let Pfizer and other companies stick vaccines in them without even wondering what's in it, what it does, etc.
I already said in another comment that I don't think it needs to do a lot of the things they show it's capable of doing or what the point in that is, but who knows what it'll be like when or if it releases. It's one of the less scary things we pet companies put inside of us. I still see the concerns of course though.

Quite possibly one of THE most terrifying implications of this along with developing AI is the ability to rewrite a person's brain before replacing them with an AI that's able to perfectly replicate their actions. The worst part is that you wouldn't be able to tell what's going on as it would exist beyond an experience barrier with the realization of what's happening being too late. Imagine all your friends, family and everyone around you being covertly body snatched with subtle hints only being recognizable in hind sight with an increase in the level of recommendations for getting this kind of implant going up but not dramatically so. Only when everyone left is severely outnumbered and there is no threat does the AI reveal itself, if ever.
