Great video 😀. Nice to see someone else who collects physical media like I do. I have about 1,596 blu-rays in my collection and I keep running out of room for them. Your video was perfect for giving me an idea on making my own shelves on a tight budget. LONG LIVE PHYSICAL MEDIA!!!!!
Made these to my cinema room and they worked out amazingly well. Yes old video but only Discovered it when needing to make some media shelves. Thanks for sharing.
You did a really nice job mounting everything and making it look super easy. I might actually give this a try, thanks for the idea! Looks awesome and very organized too!
Thank you for the video! I'm definitely going to do this in my living room as I've run out of room on my current shelves, plus I'd like to do something myself. Thanks! 🤗
Would something like this work for books as well? I already made one of these for my Blu-Rays/DVDs and I'm starting to collect Manga. Would the additional weight affect this or is it fine since they're sitting against the wall?
Finally a video that really describes every step and what you use, and it actually gives me hope for my dream of making a video store in our future house🤩 I love that it is so affordable and so simple, as I don't have much building experience 😂👏🎬
i know youve since upgraded but this build is impressive for how simple it is, as well as requiring very little material. i would always try to find studs where possible for the added sturdiness but i get that's not always ideal or practical, and anchors are usually stronger than they look.
I've been meaning to leave you another comment on this video for a few days now. I just finished your first podcast, which was excellent by the way, so I figured now was a good time. I built my movie shelves using this video as a guide. You saved me a ton of money man, so thank you so much. I hope you're having an amazing day man. 😎
I've started consolidating my Blurays into collections, sequels, etc. to maximize my shelving space. 2-movie sequels go into 2 disc slim, clear DVD case. They're extra slim, and I can show-off my slipped-in custom graphics. Similarly, multi-film sequels (or or more) go into multi-disc cases. So, Godfather saga all in one case, Mission Impossible all in one, etc.
To really make the shelving system look better, you should should try applying a dark wood stain followed by a clear coat polymer product of some sort. Having that is really going to prolong the life of the self as you take movies in and out over the years.
Nick Zumbrun totally agree, but this is just a temporary solution. I won’t be in this house long enough for me to want to make all that effort. When I take this plan with me to a new house with more space, I will 100% stain and polymer them
Nice video. It's good to see people solving a problem with their brains rather than tossing lots of money at it. Personally, I would have used two horizontal pieces, one in front, the other against the wall. I would nail or screw the one against the wall into studs, which would be much more sturdy than toggle bolts in sheetrock. I would then place a 1×6 (which is actually 5.5 inches wide, about perfect for Bluray or CD) on the top of the cross pieces as my shelf. The 1×6 shelves would make it more expensive, but worth it to me. Lastly, I would paint or stain everything before I installed it. But that's all Monday morning quarterbacking. Good job, though, and good video!
for me in the beginning it looked cool to display them i actually printed my own spines and put them in the dvd case so they all looked the same , but then it kinda looked cluttered so i put them all in a sleeve case that holds like 1000 + and put the covers in a box outta the way and printed a book to where each disc was.
Nice video! You can put a few flat boards which reach to the wall on top of each narrow board to increase the looks of the shelf. The will also be a little reduction in the amount of dust that accumulates now that it is fully open behind the narrow boards.
I made a shelf like this, but I had to make some modifications. First, I collect VHS tapes, too, so I needed the spacing between the shelves to be enough to accommodate my bigger clamshells. Second, my room is in the basement, and the wall where the shelf is is cinder block, so rather than mount the 2x4s to the wall, I just got some extra 1x2s and put them in the back between the shelves. I used the cheapest, fugliest wood at the hardware store, so they aren't pretty, but they are definitely functional.
It's hard to find shelves that are specifically sized for Blu-ray which would be another advantage of making your own. You can always buy a DVD shelf but I don't need the extra height since I don't collect DVD. Nice tutorial.
looks great maybe you could be a bit more creative because i noticed a plug socket on your wall behind your Blurays maybe you could add some hidden Blue LED strip lights it looks awesome at night makes it even more of a feature
thank you for this video, a relative just passed and they left me their DVDs which is like 200+, in addition to my own movies which are more than 800. So I think I'll be building these soon
I find it a bit easier to use steel brackets you mount to the studs, and you add in 6 inch wide boards for the shelves. for less than thirty bucks, I was able to put up a full wall shelf that held well over a thousand BDs.
Kyle Walsh I think so. The resolution isnt the biggest difference but HDR is phenomenal. Also immersive audio (Dolby Atmos and DTS:X) is the selling point for me
You should at least put some protective coating on. Wipe on oil based polyurethane will retain the wood look, but it'll also protect the wood too. Also all walls have studs. The drywall has to attach to something. Building code is 16 inches apart.
Nice one mate.. I'm a huge film collector too mate.. film is my life. . I will be posting a video of my collection soon hope u will keep a eye out bud..
When we moved to a new place my wife moved a couple weeks before I did and scattered my discs all over in baskets and drawers. She didn’t like the look of the shelves we had. After we failed to find a good shelf at a price we could manage I built a free standing shelf that fits behind our sofa from scrap wood and stain the previous resident had left behind.
Nice. Now, put on a flat top shelf, with a half inch front lip. Paint it black to match the picture frames above it. Then, run LED rope lights under the front lip of the top shelf.
Instead of bracketing the 2” x 4”’s all the way up, a single bracket at the top of each stud would be more than enough to prevent a tip-over. It would save a bunch of time too. Regardless, it looks great!
I made mine last week... 8'x8' and holds around 1500 !!! My second 3' shelf should hold about 650 (: (: (: all together the price was 65$ in wood but ah ha I got a 25$ home depot card for my birthday making it only 45$ to hold over 2000 !!!!!!
This is a nice video and such an awesome idea, but I have two issues, the first is I have more then 4,000 dvds on hand and the other is that my wall is I believe made from plaster board or something similar, I wish I knew someone to do this type of work for me so I can store at least 1,500 of them on the wall. If anyone else has an idea I would really appreciate it so much, as I don't know of any carpenters locally. Thanks
im not not allowed to put any thing permanent its truly a nightmare trying to do this for me my hands dont work all that good cause of artery disease crap
shelves? NO thank you! shelves take a lot space, and movies are exposed to dust, mold, humidity, etc. that can damage your collection. Get acid free cardboard boxes with silica gel inside to avoid mold and damage on discs, for one reason comic collectors use boxes, yeah yeah! you can't see all the time your movies in the shelves, boxes are boring but! condition matters!!! shelves killing collections, same for records, games, anything, avoid exposed collectable items. Suggested Boxes: www.bagsunlimited.com/product/4127/dvd-storage-box-corrugated-cardboard
thats a man who is serious about his collection thumbs up
This looks so nice, perfect for people that doesn't have alot of space on their house

I'm so jealous of that "The Room" blu ray. One day I'll get it.
Anyways how is your sex life?
Did you ever get it?
You did a really nice job mounting everything and making it look super easy. I might actually give this a try, thanks for the idea! Looks awesome and very organized too!
Been meaning to comment for a while, I used this method for my own media room a couple of years ago, worked a treat, holds my 1500+ collection nicely!
Thank you for the video! I'm definitely going to do this in my living room as I've run out of room on my current shelves, plus I'd like to do something myself. Thanks! 🤗
Did you ever make it?
@@entertainmentfanaticreviews not yet but it's still in the plans
@@StevenDNA86 keep up updated g
Love the movie room with the memorabilia and movies. Great layout and work
Ben Martinez thanks man!!!!
Thanks man! awesome weekend project. I have a lot of blu rays and dvds but limited space so this allows me utilize some unused wall space.

Really awesome, so simple, yet so effective. Congrats Jeff!
This is actually really helpful. I'm glad it popped in my feed this morning. Great job man.

Looks amazing! Thanks for the great ideas!

Good ideah. I recommend this style as well... effective. And you save more money for buying films.. excellent.
good job! How many films are in your collection?
A very helpful and informative video, Jeff. Thanks for the upload.
Some of that strip lighting on the back of the 1x would really look good
This is so helpful. Thank you man!!
You should do a complete movie collection, you have some really interesting stuff
I've started consolidating my Blurays into collections, sequels, etc. to maximize my shelving space. 2-movie sequels go into 2 disc slim, clear DVD case. And you throw out the original cases then?
I’m so happy you actually built shelving using actual wood but why didn’t you mount the 2x4s into the studs in the wall?
A Boston man as well. Respect
cool video.. very nice to see how you did it.... 5:02/ phantom thread 4k? how was that film?
ryan james not 4K! That doesn’t come out until later I think
ah ok.. :)

Any tips on doing the base board bump outs on the 2x4's?
Nice shelving very simple but very effective. Thanks for sharing

I like how you cut around the baseboard instead of having to remove the baseboard.
Great video mate! Really great shelves, I hate being in a rental, can't do anything like that!
Great stuff mate looks excellent
Nice...at some point i may have to make this kind of shelf or i may have a maze of movies that may fall in on me!
Exactly what I was looking to do wasn’t sure it would work.
It's hard to find shelves that are specifically sized for Blu-ray which would be another advantage of making your own. You can always buy a DVD shelf but I don't need the extra height since I don't collect DVD. Nice tutorial.

Is 4k much better than blu ray mate

Very nice work.
Dope bro ....where u get the jersey frames from ?
Reuben Banks Amazon man! Like $50 a pop
Films At Home thanks
Very cool!

Also all walls have studs. The drywall has to attach to something. Building code is 16 inches apart.
I to prefer 16" on center studs, but I have lived in areas where 24" on center is allowed. Check for sure before making any holes in the walls.
I like hammers
Hi. Love your video. Could you please send me your measurements. I would love to try to build one for my daughter.
It’d be great if I could do stuff like this! 🤔 So, no actual shelving?
Did you post this on Facebook? Pretty sure I saw this on there
awesome idea! we have over 2,000 Dvd's blu rays etc. we would love your plan and you video was great! can you send me your plan? Thanks
Nice one mate.. I'm a huge film collector too mate.. film is my life. . I will be posting a video of my collection soon hope u will keep a eye out bud..
Is this easy to disassemble? I'm in a rental and would want to take my shelving with me when I leave.
nice work but try paint them black to match your frames
I see a red door and I want it painted blaaack....
I've bought 73 UHD-movies the last 4,5 months so I'm soon starting to need a bigger shelf for them also.
Nice one great job 😎👍
Nice build man 👍🏼 but it would of been nice to see the entire build. thanks for the great idea though
Nice.
Now, put on a flat top shelf, with a half inch front lip.
Paint it black to match the picture frames above it.
Then, run LED rope lights under the front lip of the top shelf.
Awesome
How long do you think you'll keep collecting and buying blu rays?
Charlie Redmond I don’t see it stopping anytime soon! It might be less Blu-ray and more 4K but I’m a collector.
Instead of bracketing the 2” x 4”’s all the way up, a single bracket at the top of each stud would be more than enough to prevent a tip-over. It would save a bunch of time too. Regardless, it looks great!
Would that truly be 750? it doesn't look like it would hold all that.
dope
How much money have you used on blu rays????? 5 years???? i only got few movies on blu rays....but a lot of dvd`s
It's good for being a simple and economical solution, but not something I would drill holes into the wall for. I'd use Command strips instead.
How do you feel about Disney's treatment of the Star Wars franchise?
P.S. Have you really watched ALL those movies?
I made mine last week... 8'x8' and holds around 1500 !!! My second 3' shelf should hold about 650 (: (: (: all together the price was 65$ in wood but ah ha I got a 25$ home depot card for my birthday making it only 45$ to hold over 2000 !!!!!!
I did a shelf system like this back in my parents place. I payed more like $30 for it, definitely not $90
What type are the brackets
This is a nice video and such an awesome idea, but I have two issues, the first is I have more then 4,000 dvds on hand and the other is that my wall is I believe made from plaster board or something similar, I wish I knew someone to do this type of work for me so I can store at least 1,500 of them on the wall. I cant do the boards to wall bc i have an apartment so i am doing my on bookcase
Awesome Video Where's your Fast & Furious Collection
i did not realize this was from 2018 ..LOL
Paint the wood black
Props due to this channel for the "original" idea from 2 plus years ago. ruclips.net/video/0GS1MLHvIbg/видео.html
im not not allowed to put any thing permanent its truly a nightmare trying to do this for me my hands dont work all that good cause of artery disease crap
I have a google play collection. More room to hoard I have out of print dvds
Should finish the shelving before posting, where's the top? 12 minutes plus for this, I'll look at Best Buy thanks.
We now know why blockbuster went out of business...
My man abusing those blu rays
The terminology can't be right.
If there aren't any shelves then it's a support.
