I don't know about that either. I still mostly (but not always) buy video discs to actually watch them for the first time or in a brand new experience (even though I very rarely buy video discs). I just like the idea of physically owning the discs. We've (my family has) done it like this since the 90s. But I'm saying like this as a common, casual collector, not like the guy in the video who treats his collection like a video archive. My parents usually gave those DVDs away if friends and family wanted to watch them. Rewatchability is one thing, but sharing is also a thing. It's like sharing video games back in the days. The question is, how can one watch something they've never seen (in full HD) without paying for the expensive price of physical formats, isn't available on netflix, without having to rent it digitally for 48 hours, playable on smart TV, and without having to use piracy. I think the only answer is digital downloads...? That is the only option I can think of. But don't they sometimes cost just as much or even more expensive than physical? All in all I think, in some cases, it still makes a lot of sense to buy physical copies of movies I've never seen. Doing research before buying is a no brainer, I think. But sometimes you are out at a video store and don't have internet access with you and you see movies on sale for 5 bucks and the covers and summaries look interesting and makes you want to buy it. I know that has happened to me at least once and it's hard to regret since they were on sale.

I too am a media collector, owning about a third of this featured collection. However despite spending $300,000 above, which may hold its value for the owner, sadly as many of us know in 'real terms' it's only worth a fraction of the original cost. Physical 'in-print' media devalues by approx 50% within first 12 months. If still available after typically 5 years, dependent upon title, a dvd/blu ray can lose 90% of it's bought price. Which is why I only buy 5% of my media brand new, these tend to be specific limited titles only. With many things in life, it tends to be "worth more to the owner than what it can sell for".
The collection is worth 5 grand realistically but 15k titles you would think that bumps the price to $15,0000. If we went through eBay lol I would think there would be a few titles worth some good money and 20grans might be put on hold lol 😅

Some people collect books, have huge libraries, most won't be be read, this is similar, but most people don't understand collecting the physical thing as a pastime, to a lot of people, is much better. They don't mind using space, and it isn't classed as an investment to most collector's, you know, a thing called enjoyment!
There are a few RUclipsrs in the physical media community that have collections which surpass this guy's total. Most people don't understand that being surrounded by the things you love brings you joy and happiness no matter what those things are👍
Fear Monarch I think just about any collector - records, CDs, books, stamps, coins, art, anything - can relate to this. Not a question of "I want this...", but "I NEED this..." B^D
+sisbrawny As a non-serious collector, it can be an economical way to satisfy that collector "need", and it's a good way for kids to learn about geography and history. When you don't know where a country is, you look it up and when you don't know who a person on a stamp is, you find out. True, the run of the mill flag or bird or tree doesn't tell you much, but a good commemorative stamp can tell you a lot. Plus, they're purty little pieces of paper you can stick in an album. But you must always remember, "Philately will get you nowhere."
He appears to be doing well for himself, and his collecting doesn't seem to have hurt him financially. Don't see an issue personally. I do that too - I'll buy a Bluray version of a DVD and usually get rid of the DVD unless the DVD has features not on the Bluray, in which case to save space if the packaging permits I'll put them into a clear case that can hold multiple discs and I can slide the covers in so they are readable. Cry when the hard drive fails.....like legitimately cry. I had a 4TB full of movies die on me once......Took me months to recover it all. Now it's multiple drives as backup....
HONESTreviews yes but 15,000 movies would have to be compressed ie poorer video quality to be on a very big single hard drive. And no way could you fit a 1000 4k blu rays on a single hard drive. You would need several very very high capacity hard drives. To copy them all with no picture or sound loss.
To anyone wondering. This man has only watched 200 of the 15.000 movies. He says. And I quote to clarify. “I probably have not watched MORE than 200 of those”

There are a few RUclipsrs in the physical media community that have collections which surpass this guy's total. Most people don't understand that being surrounded by the things you love brings you joy and happiness no matter what those things are👍
that's a nice little collection you got there.
I can relate to this guy too much. I have over 3000 CD's and tons of cassette and 8 track tapes. Maybe one day I'll end up on a show like this XD
Fear Monarch I think just about any collector - records, CDs, books, stamps, coins, art, anything - can relate to this. Not a question of "I want this...", but "I NEED this..." B^D
+Telstar62a Why the hell do people collect stamps?
Some spend their spare cash on alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, cars, videogames etc, he has bought films.
People are quick to judge, but I'm sure going through anyone's finances there would be things that other people think are a "waste of money" or "pointless".
WTF is wrong with video games?
@@jlex1049 he never said that there was something wrong with video games
I know a few youtubers who definitely have more, Kim Jong Un also had 20000+. And than there is Derek Davis who is Guinness World Record holder for most DVDs in a private home library with over 189000 titles
but are they rich? not only does this guy have a huge movie collection, he must be rich to be featured by forbes.
@@daveheelof course he’s rich 🤑 if he can buy so many movies depending if they brand new or used
All before the 4k revolution… god know how this collection has grown.
I have been collecting since the early 80s VHS - Upgraded to DVDs in 2000 - upgraded to Blu-ray 2011. My collection consists of 17. 988 titles not including the VHS. Got at least 800 or More VHS.
Yep a few people around the world have bigger physical disc collections of movies than the guy in the video. My collection is larger than the typical person but I only buy movies I like. And trade in any films I buy that I don't like.
My very first movies owned were Dracula AD and The Vampire Lovers on VHS in 1982.
Ive been collecting most my life but seriously for I'd say the past 4 years I've counted my blu ray/4k collection and most recently when I did that it came out to 738 titles and growing fast that was in november. God I luv movies.
and I thought I had a collection, Unbelievable Theater as well! this motivates me even more.
00:43 Miyazaki Collection
Your collection is wonderful
Still Awesome... I wish i had this collection...
Seems like a cool guy who truly loves movies for what they are rather an investment against inflation or tax shelter.
My storage unit is loaded with about 400 DVDs and 200 mostly rare VHS. I've probably watched 75%. I live in a homeless shelter so it's hard, because my unit is so packed it's hard to reach most of them.
Lol priorities
@Nick Thompson Because not buying DVDs when you make $7,000 a year will magically allow you to pay $1,500 a month rent?
@Nick Thompson And you don't seem smart enough to realize that the majority were bought BEFORE I could no longer afford an apartment.
@@napoleonbonerfart278 Because being able to afford $350 a month on a storage unit means I can afford $1,500 a month for an apartment?

Enjoy your impressive collection Mr. Kalomirakis...4 NOW! And Forbes Life, I want you to remember my name: Darryl Anthony Carter...the man who WILL beat Theo's record in the future by owning (at least) 17,000 movies! The challenge has been made!!
I have 3,000 titles. And I don’t think that’s crazy, it’s Blu/DVD/Digital combined and growing weekly.
Did I hear him correctly, he's only watched TWO HUNDRED of his 15,000 movies? What a phony, he's just some rich guy. Some people watch that many movies in a year.
Tim Viper i watch more in a year xD
"I probably have *not* watched two hundred of those". That means that he's watched all but 200.
GoldenDevilGamer that’s not what he said? He says “I probably have not watched MORE than 200 of those” ??
Cinsicko yea,I’m sure he’s said he’s only seen 200 of those movies
@@1999Sponge He said "I probably have not watched more than 200 of those". Watch again.
I thought I was doing well with around 400...
At least you won't die of old age before never watching all of them like this dude will.
Not trying to be big headed. But mine now numbers 17500 dvd and bluray. Only I don't have the luxury of storage space, so needs major organising. Started in 2002.
Upload a video of your collection.
Damn he should totally do an updated version of this video
I think Dave on the Cinemasickness channel has more. Could be wrong.
His collection is basically the definition of “quantity over quality”. If you watch his videos he buys complete garbage titles just cause they are there.
He does! I have seen his library personally. I would say he has close to 20,000 titles if not more.
His only seen 200 hundred of them! I have around 300 titles and I've seen all of them so technically I've seen more films than him! This dude has a lot of catching up to do
I have almost 23000 although about 2000 are bluray duplicates. Been collecting since 2002. Everyone says I am mad. But it is an addiction. Probably watched 2/3rds of them, which isn't bad I think. I own loads of rare films especially foreign language ones. It's my pride and joy.
Ignore them, if it makes you happy, fuck them!

Internet archive needs to get in there, scan and rip everything. If his place burns down as is, much will be lost
I have 7,000 titles on 5 6tb hard drives

No INSIDE MOVES (1980) @ 1:18? I can only find VHS copies of it myself.

The difference with Scorsese - he lives and breathes films and has probably watched almost everything in his collection. This guy is just trying to awkwardly show off his money or something I guess? Fail
garriswh Seen all but 200.
scorsese signed the Polanski petition
So, you're just guessing?

Dude I would LOVE to have a collection like this. I’m still working on mine.
I wish he'd digitally adapt them to the Internet archive. Also I would love all of those laserdisc always wanted a player
I'm stil collecting dvd and blueray
I do that too - I'll buy a Bluray version of a DVD and usually get rid of the DVD unless the DVD has features not on the Bluray, in which case to save space if the packaging permits I'll put them into a clear case that can hold multiple discs and I can slide the covers in so they are readable.
I love 3D too - when Sony Canada closed its retail stores two years ago I got 3D TVs for each of the rooms in my place that had a TV.
I do that too I always check the special features if the dvd 📀 have been ported to blue rays of not I’ll keep the dvd sometimes they don’t add all. The special features. To the blue rays unless there brand new

I bet he has no rubbish Marvel movies 😂
I love finding rare dvds or blu rays....as soon as they are hard to get I'm out to find it!
I love your video and thank you so much.
Someone hurry and rip this collection into a Plex Media Server ASAP before he falls off his ladder while trying to fetch Hamlet.
Crazy how you can fit all these movies on a single hard drive now.
Yeah, that's not collecting, that's space saving, collectors don't want that!
Cry when the hard drive fails.....like legitimately cry.
I had a 4TB full of movies die on me once......Took me months to recover it all. Now it's multiple drives as backup....
Where's the fun in that?
HONESTreviews yes but 15,000 movies would have to be compressed ie poorer video quality to be on a very big single hard drive.
And no way could you fit a 1000 4k blu rays on a single hard drive. You would need several very very high capacity hard drives. To copy them all with no picture or sound loss.
Yeah hard drives crash easily movies and music were meant to be on discs not cheap ass streaming on cell phones 📱 🤮🤢🤢🤮😂😂
I personally know somebody who has a larger collection. He tried to sell it to a local university for $250,000
To anyone wondering. This man has only watched 200 of the 15.000 movies.
He says. And I quote to clarify.
“I probably have not watched MORE than 200 of those”
No VHS?
Still many titles only available in that format.

He gets rid of the DVD for the Blu Ray? That's not a real collector...
He doesnt literally get rid of them he stops watching the dvd and then watches the blu ray
He has even JUICE of 2PAC on laserdisc popping out first from his shelve! 😁😁😁
I did not know the movie Juice was on laser disc. Hell yes.
THIS is so freakin crazy ^^
15,000? how long would it take to watch everything?
Yeah, but does he have all the Plain Archive/Kimchidvd/Nova Media editions?
This will be my collection one day! :)
He should order them alphabetically by director.
