My first horse ever remember watching, Alysheba. (I was 12) He holds a very special place in my heart. Those were the best days of my life!

He was a Super Horse a Great Champion who had stiff competition from lots of other G 1 winners . Besides Secretariat. I never in my life saw such a competitive generation of Horses

Alysheba and Ferdinand together once again.
Two of my all time favorites but I'm biased. I grew up near Santa Anita and worked there in the 1980s.
Hi to Jack VB and best wishes! I'm a friend of Hoppy (Jack will know who I mean) : )

Jack was the ideal trainer for Alysheba. I've been a huge fan of Alysheba since he started running as a 2 yr old. I had his name on my Toyota Supra plate from 86-93. He would've won the 87 Breeders Cup if McCarron didn't blow it for him. McCarron admitted it was one of his worst riding jobs that day. Alysheba did most of the work on his own. The horse was very intelligent, had a huge heart, and he had guts! The best horse of ALL time! Alysheba!

One of the smoothest movers. Physically a very efficient running machine. Not big muscular. Classy and kind. I remember going to watch him gallop prior to the Preakness. Jack did an interesting thing; he took the blinkers off to run over that very sloppy track. I always though that was a good idea and wondered why other trainers didn't. Didn't bother Al. What a horse. I wanted to breed my mare to him, not to race but to have. His stud fee was not out of my reach as his offspring were not burning up the track. They were late developers. Not desirable for the American market. I thought he went to So. Africa to stand at stud, not Saudi Arabia. I could have given him a very nice retirement home.

This Derby was always Swale's race. What a shame we lost him after his dominant Belmont. His legacy would've been even greater.
