  • Nazly had an overbite that affected her in her daily life, in aspects such as eating and sleeping. She came by recommendation to our center, where she underwent a bilateral sagittal osteotomy for mandibular advancement and centering. In the video, Nazly tells us in detail how her postoperative period was and how she is feeling now.

I'm curious about the jaw "wiring" process which scares me the most. Are the Jaws actually wired or banded shut? How long are they normally wired or banded shut? Thank you.

Hello Carlos, wiring in an oudated practice. Thanks to minimally invasive techniques, and new fixation methods, this is not necessary anymore. In our center, we place elastic rubber bands that go from one jaw to the other, but these are basically exercising devices that help you regain strenght in your jaw muscles, and they are removed to eat and to clean your mouth.

Thank you. How long are the bands typically in place.

@@carlospelay9642 That depends on how much the patient exercises, but around two weeks on average.

An impaction of the maxilla could generate an effect like that. We should study your case to see if that's indicated.

I don’t like the way I look at the moment. I feel like this is a big mistake.
I hope we’ll end up liking our result.

i literally did not see anything wrong with her teeth before. My overbite is worse than hers. I just would not go through all that just for cosmetic reasons.

      She had an obvious overbite.
She looks way better after surgery! The cosmetic reason alone makes it worth it, but besides that, having an overbite can lead to tmj joint degeneration, uneven tooth wear and sleep apnea.
If you have an overbite that's "worse than hers" you need to get it checked by a few professionals and possibly get treatment.
