Update: 5/15/2022:
I am now using Benson's Table Tasty in place of the Sumac. I still sprinkle the sumac on my salads for extra flavor but in the actual dressing I now use Benson's.
The dressing really thickens as you chill it and I find I prefer it a little thinner so I have increased the unsweetened non dairy milk to 3 cups.
Thank you Nan Simonsen for this amazing recipe!!!
Nan demonstrates it here: • Nan Simonsen of Aging ...
Turns out it is based on another amazing recipe from Dreena Burton available here: • How to Make Ranch Dres...

This dressing will make you LOVE your salads! It's also great on steamed veggies, like broccoli, as a dip with crudite and even over potatoes and sweet potatoes!
The BEST Vegan Ranch Dressing
2 cups of unsweetened PLAIN non-dairy milk (Nan uses soy milk (I'm allergic)
1 - cup COOKED Yukon Gold potato (about 9 ounces)
1/2 cup of unsweetened PLAIN non-dairy yogurt (I used one carton of Forager's cashew)
4 Tablespoons dried parsley
2 teaspoons Dill SEED (essential, different than dill weed)
2 teaspoons Dill WEED
2 teaspoons Sumac (or Benson's Table Tasty, Nan uses salt)
t teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
4 Tablespoons lemon juice
4 Tablespoons Red Wine Vinegar
4 Tablespoons Tahini
2 Tablespoons mustard (I used Westbrae salt-free)
2 Medjool Dates, pitted
Note: Nan adds black pepper to taste (I am allergic)
She also just started adding a Tablespoon of Nutritional Yeast.
I tried it once and it didn't seem to make a difference so I do not do that.
Place all ingredients in a high powered blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a glass container and refrigerate. Keeps fresh about 5-7 days.

I just made this with a few swaps.
I used acuafava not millk, cashews, caper juice, and fresh dill.
Tastes just like ranch. THANKS!
I find dill seed in the measure-your-own spice area at Sprouts.
Thank you so much Chef AJ. Ranch dressing is something I have been missing. You’re the best!
So happy to see this today. I’ve been trying to find a PB recipe for ranch dressing. Eager to try this. I’ll be able to get back to my salads again!
This looks absolutely delicious chef AJ...and definitely going to try it. Also very interesting about the salt replacement as I am eager to give up this addiction this year! Thank you 😊
Thanks Chef AJ as u started watching Dr McDougall and went plant base thanks 🙏🏿 for sharing I am a senior with a lot of stomach issues watching u I went plant base thanks yes I have a daughter who is plant base now I understand thanks 🙏🏿 doing that ranch dressing today yes taste great thanks 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👏👏👏👍👍👍❤️🌹
That is awesome!
Thank you soooo much for this video..I have looked for a good ranch recipe that's low fat for so long! I can't wait to try it.
Oh my word!! I too have been on a search for a healthy vegan Ranch dressing!! I can’t wait to try this!!! Thanks a million Chef AJ
🌱🕊❤️
Just made this and as usual Chef AJ knocks it out of the park!!! 5 star!
This is really good! Thank you Chef AJ!!
Can’t wait to try this! Thank you! 💚
Wow, that is soooo incredible! Thank you very much for sharing it forward 😌
I’m going to try this! Thank You so much for sharing
My favorite tofu scramble has always been the one from the cookbook Vegan With A Vengeance, (she changed it slightly in later books, but I like the original). I love the mix of spices in that one and finally premixed a batch. It makes it so much easier and faster.
It is super easy to make your own almond milk. Can't wait to try this recipe!
Very clever and efficient preparing seasonings in advance in spice jars. Great tip Chef AJ !
Thank you, Chef AJ.🥗🥔
I made Nan’s version of this recipe and I have to say that it is the best plant based ranch dressing that I’ve ever had. Amazing!
Thank you for sharing this Chef AJ. 🌻😘
I made this today. I have been looking for a good ranch recipe for years! I’ve tried so many so I didn’t have have high hopes 😂, but thanks to Chef AJ, my search is over! This is delish! Thank you for the recipe!
Amazing recipe! Thanks Chef Aj
Can't wait to try this new Ranch Dressing recipe. I've tried the Ranch made with nuts, and I've tried the Ranch made with Soy (I'm not a fan of Soy), always on the search for a Ranch that hits it out of the park. So, I'm going to check tomorrow to see if I have all the ingredients and I'm going to try this out. Thanks for sharing it.
Made this today. It really is the best vegan ranch dressing. It actually tests like ranch dressing! I am going to have to get some seasoning jars and put all the seasonings in like Chef AJ does. This recipe is a keeper!
Thank you 😊 it looks like the best!!!
Thank you! I can’t wait to try this! I am trying to go vegan but there’s such a learning curve -which I knew it would be. I have a bunch of popular vegan cookbooks but there are SO much nuts and hard to find ingredients. I absolutely LOVE nuts but have developed a nut allergy and vegan recipes are full of nuts. Nuts are very expensive too. I’m glad it’s possible to adapt a vegan diet without nuts! I even have sumac but haven’t tried by iit yet-purchased to make a middle Eastern recipe. I purchased it on Amazon.
Subbed white wine vinegar instead cause thats what i had, and also used the sumac in lieu of salt, and the final product is just Wow!!! So Yum!!! 👍 This is going into the rotation for sure!
Oh this looks divine!
I have been searching for a salad dressing to help me eat more greens. I've tried different recipes and no winner. So I was skeptical but I went for it. I couldn't find the dill seeds and used a sweet potato, because didn't have white one and omitted the dates. Must say it is yummy. 😋
Thank you always enjoy what you're !💞
thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe! AJ you are awesome! ❤
Thanks Chef aj I'm working on losing weight this year and I love a good dressing
I can’t wait to try it!
I made this recipe last week, and it is fantastic! At first, I thought it was a bust, but it gets better day by day. I only had ACV on hand and it works great.
You are amazing. Thank you so so much for sharing this gem.
Yayy!! Found the Recipe. Love from Texas
Dill seeds are everywhere available at Indian food markets here in Fort Worth, Texas, and the dressing is delicious!
This is absolutely delicious! Thank you for sharing. I got dill seed from Amazon (UK). 🙏
I love your idea of keeping your seasoning mixtures in one container! Brilliant! 👏
It's so simple and convenient.
Wow, can’t wait to try this. I’m not allergic to nuts, but I just do not like cashew based dressings or sauces. I cannot wait to try this.
I made this today. Did not have Red Wine Vinegar - had to use Apple Cider Vinegar. I was afraid that I had ruined it. But to my surprise, it was delicious. You may have to tweak the Lemon juice for tartness, or the salt level to your preference. This is a winner!
Does this taste like potatoes at all? When I've made nacho cheese sauce and used potatoes, it just tasted like a potato.
@@cct7495 No, not at all. She was right. It was delicious. Taste test as you go along. Tweak the Lemon juice.
@@kefirheals7383 Okay will try it. Thank you for your input!
@@cct7495** Forgot to mention: you may want to cut recipe in half. It makes A LOT.
Kefir Heals when you say "tweak lemon juice for tartness", is that because you found the sauce to be too tart with the amount of lemon juice the recipe called for? I'm just asking because I'm wondering if I should start with a lesser amount of lemon juice and just add more if necessary (to suit my taste).
This came at a perfect time as I happened to be experimenting with different ranch dressing recipes. Thank you for sharing!
The Truth About Weight Loss is fabulous. Such good speakers and the information is something I will use for a lifetime.
I was able to find Sumac in my local Loblaws in Toronto! I made it yesterday and it sublime!!!!! I ate a big bowl of salad. Thank you!
Yes, ground sumac is my go-to for adding a salt sub to mashed potatoes! And fyi it is much cheaper at Asian markets!
Followed the recipe. Added a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to bump up the tang. I will definitely make it again! (with half the dates). Thank you for sharing!
This is very good! I have been on this plan for 30 days now, and it was the first time I had dressing on my salad! Thank you!
That's a real plus!
Can't wait to try it 😮looks so tasty
Excellent. Like so many below have stated. . . it's not (in my humble opinion) that close to Ranch. . . HOWEVER, it is very very good! Creamy" has never gone over well with my BFF, so this will be most enjoyed by her . . . which is quite a positive as I love it and can't wait to share it with her tomorrow.
I made this and it is so good! It definitely has that ranchy buttermilk tang. It had a pretty strong dill flavor - that dill seed is intense! (I found dill seed at Walmart btw). Next time I will halve the dill seed. There will definitely be a next time though because overall it''s a great dressing.
I noticed that Nan Simonsen’s recipe does not call for Dill WEED but AJ’s does. I wonder if the combination of the dill seed and dill weed is a bit too much?
Thank you for the recipe I will try it however you said is nuts free but the yogurt is made of cashews
And almond milk 🤔
Can’t wait to try 🥰
Woooooo hooooooo finally got dill seeds! Made this tonight for dinner! What a game changer... reminded me of blue cheese dressing that I've not eaten for 30 years... Should be called THE best dressing...
It was so satisfying watching how perfect all that ranch filled up those 2 big jars. Looks so yummy 😋 your vegan neighbors are so blessed 😆 you're awesome!
Thank you!
Wonderful recipe sharing. the food comes out perfectly enjoy watching you'll thank you, dear. Stay Blessed and stay connected.
I’ve been patiently waiting for this since you announced it. I don’t care for ranch, but my family loves it. Thanks!
I hope they like it. Remember if your family eat salt there’s no reason not to use it then you wouldn’t need the sumac
Thx Aj 😘. Super delicious 👍
Sumac! Dill seed! Learning something new is fun and tasty! Thank you 🥰
Hi; I'm new to you and just ordered your books so very excited to start this journey. I know from your introduction video, & you repeated here, that you do not eat nuts. But I'm curious about the yogurt you used and also the almond milk. Can you give a quick explanation? Thank you!
Pre-measure spices, brilliant! I love this women!
Thank you!
Very good. Really enjoyed the texture. Too much dill for my taste for a ranch dressing with the red wine vinegar and amount of dill it would work as a tartar sauce. Will definitely make again.
thank u. will give this a try.
Tastes a lot like Caesars to me! It came out more cream colored as well. Delicious!!!!
Sounds great 👍 definitely going to try this recipe. Thanks for Sharing ❤️
My pleasure 😊
My food co-op sells dill SEED in the bulk area. We use it for canned dill pickles :)
Sounds delicious!
Made it!! Yummy!!!
I am allergic to soy and nuts too so I love you keep those out. Thank am sensitive to garlic, onions and spicy foods and most vegan recipes have this. Excited to see the ingredients
You are so welcome!
I just made this ranch dressing, it's wonderful! Didn't have yogurt so used tofu. The addition of tahini just takes it to the next level. Thank you for this video.
You're welcome!
I made this dressing today. It really is delicious. Thank you so very much. I am just starting out and I need all the resources I can get.
So glad you like it 😍
Dill weed is the dried "leaves" (very feathery looking) of the plant. Dill seed is the actual seeds produced by the flower clusters. Here in the midwest, both are easy to find in most grocery stores.
It’s weird how different they taste. Yo me the dill seed has a flavor reminiscent of rye bread
Oh, I am SO anxious to try this!!! I am deathly allergic to all Tree Nuts and Peanuts, so it is super hard with so many vegan items, nuts are used SO frequently! I will definitely be trying this! I will be able to use the soy milk and other non-dairy yogurts! Thank you SO much!!!
Hope you like it!
Here in the south and Texas, HEB store has dill seed.
Wow I love how you explain chef specially the tips on how to prepare measured spices ahead before cooking from now on I will make my own ranch dressing for may madam salad ang some menu thankz for sharing this recepie i enjoy watching you godbless
Thanks! I do thr same thing for soups too!
I made this today. It has made me so happy. It reminds me of the ranch they have at the salad bars In restaurant. My niece stated it tasted like a dill pickle potato chip. Which either way is a win, win situation for me. Thank your wonderful friend for this recipe.
Wonderful!
❤ Exciting! Will try it. 🎉
I can hardly wait to try this. A good dressing is so important to help eat more salads. Thank you so much Chef AJ. I don't see mustard listed in the show notes recipe. How much mustard do you use?
Thanks for catching that I just added it to the recipe - 2 tablespoons
Oh, I am so excited I've found your channel!! I'm newly vegan, oil free and I don't use vinegar, soy nor nutritional yeast. I fully expected you to use vinegar and or nutritional yeast in this recipe. I also avoid salt and you gave a great replacement option! I'm so excited to try this. I would not use prepared mustard as it has vinegar in it. I'm going to just try dry mustard powder. Do you think that will work?🤞🏻
Hi Marla! I’m interested as to why you don’t use nutritional yeast? Please spill the tea if you know something about it that I don’t!
I just wanted to offer a tip to use, Chef. The next time you make your batch of premeasured ranch, take an extra second to jot down the measurements and tape them to the bottle. Just like at the pharmacy, except pharmacy for health❤
I must try this
I love you Chef AJ.
Can't make my favorite ratatoulllie recipe without dill seed! Always have it on hand and yes, it is very different from dill weed. If you can't find it at the grocery store Indian markets often have it.
Thank you!
thank you so much for this fantastic recipe. finding a good, lowfat vegan dressing is the bane of my existence. i like being able to use more than two tablespoons of dressing without having to worry about it. i made my second batch this week. THANK YOU!
You are so welcome!
Great recipe, Nan and AJ!! I'm going to do a search for dill seed today 😉👍
Hey Mandy I bought dill seeds from Aussie herbs. 250g bag... but I'm going to be making heaps of the ranch dressing. It's the bomb! I used semi dried packets of parsley in woolies, in veg section... (gourmet garden) worked a treat
@@struthadragon8656 Yay, that's great, Ruth!!
Hi AJ, I so appreciate your videos and interviews. You mentioned that you are allergic to beans, soy, pepper, maybe some other things. I'm curious about that as from time to time I come across folks with allergies. I'd like to better understand the whole allergy thing. (Why does it matter? People ask me about plant-based eating and I like to have some insight and answers or be able to point them towards good information. ) And thanks too for mentioning, sumac, I'm eager to try it!
Looks delicious
Chef AJ, oh just watching you make it I KNOW its a winner just as you say. I will get the cashew yogurt and dill weed this week and make it!!
And please remember the dill SEED
@@CHEFAJ oops thank you, I mean dill SEED 😂😂👍👍
You suit this outfit so well. You look lovely xox
Thanks Chef AJ... Can't wait to try it :) Do you think I can use half the amount of the Lemon and vinegar ? My bladder does not like those very much...any other suggestions. Thanks
No
It’s been my experience that when people stress that their recipe is The Best, or The Best is in the title, oddly enough, it really usually it!!😂
Just made this recipe ( as printed). A very good dressing. However, I think it’s too sweet to call it Ranch. I think it would be wonderful in pasta/ potato salad or any recipe that calls for Mayo. It makes a lot! Thanks for sharing this recipe.😃
You probably could just remove the dates next time to suit your tastebuds.
Wow have to try this. Thank you so much!🌸🙏🏽✨💖💫✌🏽🌺🎉
Hope you like it!
It is the best!
Thank you
Seasoning in advance. Brilliant
I can't do Soy or wheat, so I'm greatful for this recipe.
This is going to be a game changer.
Definitely trying! You are amazing Aj! Can you tell me, how long does this ranch keep in the fridge?
Well it’s never lasted more than five days because I eat it all😂
@2:55 genius idea! Thanks 😊
Thank you 😊 I just subscribed 👍🏻
Awesome! Thank you!
