The TruTuner does actually work for 12 lug marching snares. I actually have one, and it has 12 holes, but it only came with 10 keys and I had to buy 2 extras TruTuner keys. But like you experienced with the tenors, it doesnt really work for removing heads, but it does kind of work when starting heads back on and getting even tension around
They should make a version of ToneAlley that works like the Operation game and makes a horrible buzzing and flashes a red light when you hit the sides.
I was very musically literate and classically trained on flute trumpet trombone and double bass but was an entirely self taught percussionist (just reading and replicating the sounds on the cd that came with the rudimental cookbook😅). I could read and play just fine but never could play for long without hurting myself or build any stamina. Didn’t know I had technique issues, was thinking I wasn’t cut out to play percussion even though I loved it so much. Even though I had decided to concentrate on the other instruments I saw the hinge sticks and for some reason couldn’t walk pass them. Best decision ever. They helped clean up my issues and I was able to loosen my grip and use my fulcrum better and saved a lot of the other muscles I had been utilizing the wrong way. Was able pass auditions to get into some ensemble groups in college and under some great teachers and even drum set lessons under Erskine. Didn’t know there was a French grip version! I played a lot of timps in college cause I had a good ear and instant recall muscle memory (from trombone😊) but always thought my technique was weak. Imma go a look into those. But no joke- hingestix saved my life 😂
12:32 like... i know they are drumheads and they are going to get played on, but watching those first stickmarks go down on the fresh heads made me feel some type of way 😂😂
I will say as a percussion major in college we have a lot of students that come in from high school that have terrible stick Heights and they don't know how to control them well
I've personally never found myself in a situation where I needed to change a drum head in 3 seconds. If i did I'd use a drill and a square bit. That's gotta be the dumbest thing I've ever seen.
I actually like the height markers on that anti slice thing. Could be really useful when learning traditional snare pieces for consistency (think all region-area-state comps)
With the tuner thing, you need to break the tension first when you put the lug thingies on, which you can do two at a time. It gets you 90% there with putting the head back on. Of course you’re gonna have to find tune it.
the toneally reminds me of the little pipe necklace for singers to do straw exercises with, as though keeping a plastic straw in your bag was some impossible task before it was invented.
The ToneAlly is actually a pretty amazing product. I did a couple of videos of it and been with the inventor showing it to me. It’s actually a very good training tool.
I feel like the first product actually helps you because if you use it after some time you’ll get used to playing in the middle and not going to your sides
2:00 The person that designed that was probably a golfer and heard that a slice was a thing in drumming so he thaught it was as deadly and common as in golf
No but my ToneAlly invention came about by wanting to improve my line of stroke, so as to be as good as Rich, Cobham, Philips, Hakim etc Still working on it 👊🤓🥁❤️
The trutuner thing is pretty well held back by the fact that every additional lug divides the force you input (at a less than ideal leverage, mind you) so while its a super cool soncept, the execution is just not there. Would probably have been better as a racheting mechanism instead of a giant disc trying to spin odd angled keys like a cheap car jack handle
how are you supposed to get bounce with double brushes? i bought a pair of wire doubles a month or two ago and i love that theres a brush-stick combo in one stick - makes it easier to play how i do (broken hand and injured wrist limit movement) but i can't seem to get any bounce on them in the same way i would a regular stick. There doesn't seem to be a good balancing point at all
So the True Tuner actually does make SOME sense. Getting a head started evenly is the most crucial element when putting on new heads, you can wreck the sound quality of a new head if you don’t get it started evenly. If you really cared about your heads sounding as good as possible, it might be worth the effort of using it. That being said, the effort appears to be immense and you’d never have the time to use one of those on the road with a DCI corps 😂
I play viola and keyboard. What issue do I have similar to this in some way? Bowing without an almost constant slurring, and scale playing quickly (keyboard).
3:30 - I wonder if those sticks would be good on mesh pad electronic drums?🪘 6:30 - If you have an electronic drum kit, you won't be needing this drum tuner !!!🥁 I play guitar but I started out on drums and I am much better on guitar and the guitar is easier to tune than the drums, which was a pain in the ass, mainly because I didn't know the proper way to tune them. And then there's lugging them around, setting up and taking down, that got old very fast.
Hey i like the video where you test what object can be use as a drums And i really like it, and i was thinking why not making tier list of what thing tha can be use as a drums stick
If a Marine can't loosen it, no one can. Although, I was a bit surprised you figured out how to use it in the first place. Just kidding (kinda). Semper Fi
I feel like the first product would actually make you worse - You would learn that "Oh, I don't need to control my horizontal movement at all because these bars do it for me!"
You do know you're not supposed to touch the sides right. The entire point is to slowly build muscle memory by making sure you're bot touching the sides while getting progressively faster. You're arguing you'd just let the bars guide you, but that's not how it works.
I was wondering if you could make a video on the PO mounties marching band It is Philipsburg Osceola PA We have 2 quads, 4 bass drummers, and 3 snear drummers. I am one of the quad players, and I wanted you to watch us march and play our half time show
Hey, Eric, I just got kicked out of my band, you probably won't see this, but if you do, it would be nice to have support from someone that might have experienced my same predicament
Your a drummer and got kicked out? What did you do lol most drummers are in like 5 different bands 😂😂 anyways hope it works out sometimes things like this are a blessing in disguise 🥸
The first product has some value for beginners learning technique cuz let's face it they're not the blue devils....theyre not ripping triple stroke rolls at FFF. But basic rudiments yeah I could see it working. The second product is useless....the fulcrum is the balance point not a cheat to help you hit rolls faster. Wrap your sticks correctly with electrical tape with the gap for the fulcrum and get good. Work on the chops and figure it out like the rest of us did. The third product is just pointless and borderline offensive to me haha. I looooooved changing my heads. That was me and my drum having a connection that only my wife now currently gets. I'll never forget saturday afternoons in high school after pre competition practice spending my 2 or 3 hours just munching some food while listening to each tension rod and making the smallest adjustments by hand. Then when I made section leader I did it for the rest of my guys too. I was borderline OCD about it so as I've always said no tool is better than my ears

12v drill with the clutch on does the same. :)
The hinge sticks feel like they're most useful for learning gravity blasts to me
That's exactly what I was thinking.

Ah yes, marching timpani.
You can buy drum key sockets in 1/4" drive. Just grab a mini ratchet and it's a perfect item.
That true tuner thing is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen lol. It takes ten times as long to set up than it does to just use a drum key

The opposite I believe. I’s about muscle memory! It allows you to play without tension. Tension is the enemy of movement! 👊🤓🥁❤️
