I’ve have a xymox snare pad and xymox quad pad. Snare pad took 8 months. Tenor pad took 12 months. Sad to hear that there are probably thousands of people out there who ordered gear but never got it. Xymox is an absolute disaster.
My first attempt at ordering a pad, I waited 6 months before I posted a negative comment on their community page. They blocked me, wrote me a nasty email, called me from a blocked number and left a threatening voicemail mail, and then cancelled my order. My second attempt about a year after the first, took about 9 months. But I did eventually receive my pads. They’re the worst. I’m glad they failed.
I asked for a SoundBrenner (the pulsating metronome watch) as I thought it would be a really effective tool to use in both practice and for various performances where beat mapping samples and etc could come in really handy. I practiced with it for about 30 minutes and then sold it to a guitarist who probably thought it was a super smart idea, just like me
Turtle pads are something I'm going to be checking out before recommending it to my students. It's a draw string bag with a practice pad sewn into the back. It looks like a convenient rehearsal bag, and the company is run by a Cavaliers alum. Also proceeds go towards helping real turtles!
I’m actually friends with the owner of Turtle Pads! I personally love mine, although I do have the actual pad, and the string bags are really convenient! I do recommend though to keep like a binder or something that has a little bit of support to it, but that’s just my personal preference. Highly recommend the company, he’s a good guy, and it’s for a good cause!

I mean you shouldn’t really have pain From rubber pads if you are playing it properly. If you play relaxed and use the rebound you should be perfectly fine.

You lost the feeling when you play. And it took a while to get used to feel the vibrations. They are useful but the regular metronome is very reliable and better option. Luckily, I got the smartwatch version of the product that has other bunches of features so it is not completely useless.
yea i bought one as a drummer, tried using it like 3 times, never touched it again, lose the feeling of it, moves around if not tight enough, id rather play without a metronome than with it (granted i do kinda play without a metronome, but im also playing songs with a clear 2 and 4 snare hit so i count through that)
I got a set of nice bongos from a relative that always wanted me to pull them out and show off my progress every time I saw her. Not only were bongos useless to me but it was a mandatory performance 4x per year. I never touched them otherwise
Ordered a brand new tenor pad from Xymox back in summer of 2019, emailed them later that year saying I moved addresses so they need to send it somewhere else, they said okay, summer of 2020, emailed them again saying I want a refund, no response, emailed them again this year, no response, so there goes $250 on a pad that I’m never going to get. Thanks Xymox
Try to chargeback with your credit card, that's what we did eventually. It might be too late but you never know. We ordered in June 2019 and did the chargeback in March 2020. Such a bummer, great pads, horrible company.
Ugh, same! It's been exactly 12 months since I ordered a xymox as a gift...after one accepted address change in June, I've heard nothing since. So frustrating.
yup ordered mine about 2 years ago, never came they ignored all my emails (i asked them for the status of my order a good 10 times) trash company that needs to be shut down
I understand dr beat is outdated but I'm so used to the sound of dr beat and I've been using it for years so I just like it personally. Seriously I hear it in my dreams sometimes.
I’ve never owned nor ordered a Xymox pad. I think I remember them selling pads at DCI shows in the late 90’s. It’s puzzling that a company can survive such inefficiency for so many years. Are their pads still considered higher quality than other pads? How has a competitor not yet capitalized on the Xymox under-performance?
I don’t understand it either tbh. I know they have some strong patents on their designs but I feel like other companies could find ways to get around them. That being said, even if someone copied them I highly doubt Xymox wants to go anywhere near a courtroom.
Offworld came up with a snare module design for their invaders! I ordered a xymox snare pad in 2019 and it has yet to ship. There are lots of snare module pads out there that are soo much better quality than xymox and will be at your house in like 2 days. I think xymox will fall off the map in a couple years
I ordered one so me and my drum teacher could have matching ones. Sadly he passed away October 2020. I will spend my whole life trying to get my pad that I paid for.
Felts are also extremely useful for pit percussion. We lose felts all the time in mine, especially big felts, which we have to use for vibraphones' splashes or we end up hitting the suspended cymbals too. It's a great idea to have a big mason jar of spare felts and things to clamp cymbals down for the pit.
It may be cop out but a gift card works. Then the drummer can purchase what he/she needs. Thanks for the cautionary comment on the vibrating watch metronome. Thought about purchasing one but now will think twice about it.
I ordered a xymox pad in 2019. Haven't seen it since! I think I ordered at the very beginning of when they stopped actually doing stuff. I've essentially lost 100 dollars. Thanks, Xymox!
I bought the soundbrenner metronome to spare my ears and I can feel it fine when I put it on my neck with the strap under my shoulder. I think the biggest problem with it is how steep the learning curve is. You really need to put it time to use it effectively.
everyone have probably thought of this but I use my AirPods pros because if I turn on noise canceling, they're pretty good at blocking out the sound and I can also play a met in my ear

I ordered a Xymox pad my last year of high school (2014) and didn't get them until 9 months later (or hear anything on the status of my order until then either). I ordered a tenor pad and got a bonus snare pad for some deal that they had going on at the time. I think they are great pads, but Xymox just really did not run a good business and it's ridiculous how inefficent they were with orders. Seems I got lucky even hearing how long others had to wait lol
Haven’t used the vibrating metronome, but I do feel like there may be some real practical application for musicians with hearing impairments! I wonder what they might think about it.
Im a hard hitter. So there are these CLAMPS for the bass drum to help it from skidding away, it has a gummy side and a prickly side. One for hard floors and the other for rugs. 👍👍 For the looks, colored cymbal felts. 👍
The only time I ordered a Xymox pad was just before the start of the 2019 WGI season. Didn't recieve it until AFTER the season to end. In total, it took 8 MONTHS to get it, but I have friends who have waited even longer than that, including someone who ordered a hybrid snare drum OVER A YEAR AND A HALF ago who's never gotten it.
The vibrating metronome can do wonders for timing, but it's VERY unforgiving and not for everyone. You actually feel when your not on the beat and I have used it moving it around in between the limbs. Like having it on the kick foot for FoF pop songs, HH foot for jazz, or right/left hand lead or 2 and 4 snare hits. Another thing I have used it for is classical percussion, marimba and vibraphone, where timing is of the essens but you still need, and should, focus more on your sound. I like it more for that reason actually. It's still a bad idea for a gift since the person needs to have A LOT of patience and will hate you fore making you aware of their inconsistency. Even if they are used to play with metronome and have good timing.
Big brain play - I bought a wireless guitar pickup for my school’s Dr. Beat. It has a 100ft range so I can run the net from the box. One of the best investments I’ve ever made for teaching.
I bought my snare pad about 3 months before it came in. I got lucky with the quicker delivery, I also know that xymox ships very late so I paid a little extra for faster shipping.
Professional drummer/percussionist here. I use the soundbrenner watch when I gig with rock bands. It works really well for keeping those guitars in time without having to use a click. Plus it tells the time and gives you message notifications lol
I waited 9 months ordered it in September and didn't get it till July but they gave me a free customized 3 foot table top snare pad to match my custom tenor pad.
Drum head’s and keys would been hella good gifts. I feel like I always need more of those.... can never have enough. Not like heads take up much room and you can save them for later. Put an extra key with them too.... XD
My xymox fun time (still going) I had ordered a tenor pad for my percussion director who had a beat up xymox pad that he had had for a long while and I thought, oh, why not get him a new one. This was back in 2017, no calls, emails, or any other type of communication hasn’t gone through or anything. Almost $300 down the drain :/
I ordered my pad in June of 2017. Didn’t arrive until around Christmas of 2018. I literally forgot that I had ordered it. Looked on my doorstep one morning, saw the logo and was like, “damn. It actually came”
SCOJOs!!!! I loved using ScoJos. I usually preferred them over practice pads. If you're ever on a trip or know you're going to have some free time at school or work, and you don't want to lug a pad with you everywhere, you want ScoJos. Just toss a couple in your backpack, and boom you can practive everywhere.
Regarding the vibrating metronome, I am not a percussionist (I play mostly stringed instruments and piano) so I actually enjoy this product. To me it helps me to actually have some physical stimulus to help me keep time
I've used the Sound Brennar vibrating watch metronome, and I could not feel it at all while playing. It was so disappointing. I tried wearing it on my leg too. My band at the time got them for all our members, and one person would set the click and they were all supposed to pulse in sync, but they would constantly go out of sync. It was a mess.
ok so idk but my practice pad has like a red thing (not foam or sum) but idk. ill edit this and say the brand Brand is: A " ' Drum and a what i assume is a bass drum and 2 other things. sticks Vic firth 2bn Vic Firth 5b and i am currently learning a double stroke drumroll. (im practicing my left hand motion, it aint great.)
dude our only met for percussion this marching season was a dr. beat metronome because band camp was at an away summer campsite, and honestly I want one as a gift because I used to practice with it on breaks and I've grown to love it
Ordered a custom snare pad and it took 11 months. Didn't know better and recommended the tenor pads to a family friend - they ended up calling the BBB and getting their $$ back via the credit card fraud dept.
I still use my vic firth slim pad and my offworld invader v1 and v2. All three are incredible pads and feel by far the best, my v1 is almost completely tarnished at this point but I took good care of the V2 and it still feels amazing. They're all kind of loud, if you're looking for something quieter I liked the vic firth heavy hitter and the innovative gum rubber pads. Just my opinions if you don't feel like looking up any other videos with recs for the pads.
I ordered a xymox snare pad in October of last year for a Christmas present and it hasn’t come. I also got a tenor pad before that and it actually came after 8 months
I recently bought 2 xymox pads. First one shipped in 3 days, the 2nd one shipped in 6 business days. I received them quite fast and i will say their new 2022 14" before they removed them from the websites are wayyyyyyyy different from the 12 inch 2021 pads. They sound and feel opposite to each other
I've used quite a few different sticks, but my favorite that I found most comfortable for my hands were the Corps Master MS1. Liked them so much I order 50 bricks of them, just in case they stopped making them 🤣
Hey Eric, I'm preparing to start marching band in a couple of years and was wondering if I should do tenors or snare (If they give me an option) What would be you're preference? I like the movements of Tenors and the sound, but am a little crappy at playing without looking. Snare might be a better option for me because I'm not the strongest drummer, so it would be better for weight purposes. Also I've been wanting to do Tenors since the 1st grade, but find both appealing now. Keep in mind I have only played on Snare (Also done keyboard and other instruments unlike drums) in my symphonic school band.
It’s difficult to make drumline in your first year. You’ll probably get put on bass drum or rack percussion in your 1st year and move up to snare/tenors in older grades
If you can't play clean then stay away from snare... the higher frequency of sound carries and all your flaws will be heard by all. If you're not yet a strong drummer, build up your skills by starting in the pit or on bass line.
(Sorry that this comment is extremely long, but I want to give you as specific advice as possible) I've learned a lot over my 7-8 years as a concert percussionist and my 4 years in marching band, and I just want to share what I've learned over those years. In my personal opinion, I think you should go for tenors instead of snare even though you'll likely not make either your first year. But just because you don't make it, doesn't mean it's a bad thing. Not making it your first time isn't the end of the world. Use it as a lesson. I thought that I'd make it freshman year like many before me, but I realized that I was nowhere near the drumming level of the upperclassmen, so I used my first year in pit and the off-season to practice more and learn more from the juniors/seniors, and I eventually made it straight to quads sophomore year and drum captain my senior season. Those hours of practice really made things a lot easier once I became an upperclassman myself. Snares are extremely difficult to play clean (and they're pretty overrated too but I'm biased towards tenors since they're way cooler with all of the crossovers and sweeps that you'll get to do) since they're designed to bring out EVERY note you play, no matter the dynamic. It's gonna take years of rehearsal to get a snare line clean and consistent, so be prepared for that. To be a snare (and in the battery in general,) your timing must be extremely consistent and your subdivisions must be clear. Counting is everything in percussion. If your not in time, it will throw the whole band off. In addition, if your drumline uses traditional grip like mine, that's one more thing you have to perfect in addition to everything else I'm talking about. Traditional grip requires a whole other group of muscles, wrist motion, and playing technique than your regular matched grip. Tenors are indeed quite heavy and you never really get used to the back pain, so I'd just own it up since there's nothing more you can really do. Hours and hours of rehearsal will build up your endurance , so eventually it'll be a bit easier on your back, but not by much. I wouldn't worry about not looking at the tenors while playing because (I'm quote-summarizing the movie Drumline here,) the drums won't move anywhere other than where you are so there's no need to continuously look at them. Wherever they are when you put them on, that's where they'll always be. If you look at them all the time, you won't be in time. You use matched grip for tenors, mainly because it's basically impossible to to tenor things with traditional grip, unless you're Eric of course. You have a couple of years before you get there, so I'd suggest that you start really building your chops (work on diddles and different rudiments at different speeds by drumming on pillows and in front of mirrors so you can see your technique, trust me it'll really help in the long run), build your strength by staying in good physical shape, and work on taking your eyes off the drum or sheet music and instead on the conductor and focus on time, regardless of what instrument you end up on. Playing right in time and at the right dynamic/stick height is vital to both instruments, so I'd get familiar with that too. I just wanted to say that I'm really happy that you're so dedicated to music and you already developed such a strong passion for percussion. Keep going! My HS marching days are over unfortunately but you have the opportunity to be a part of something really special. Hopefully this gives a good sense of what you can expect in marching band, and remember to always enjoy it because you won't get another experience like it ever again. ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING, so stay positive no matter what and show your band director/percussion instructors that you're willing to put in the extra work to be successful, because they will make note of it and it shows your true character. There's gonna be a lot of hard days, but I have no doubt that you'll get through it because we percussionists are total badasses and no other instrument can tell us otherwise. Good luck wherever you end up!
A while ago my dads co worker got me some Hard Rock Cafe sticks and I actually rocked them for about 4 Months! I then went to a more comfortable pair. Just funny to see them come up.
So about the vibration thing. Its better geared for non percussive instruments, and ones that aren't very full body. So most woodwinds and some brass, maybe strings. It works well for me cause I get in the mood to practice late at night, so I'll set my phone to vibrate a beat and place on my thigh so i can whisper tongue. Wrist seems like a bad placement though. But yeah, definitely not for a drummer, unless they only play like, idk silent cowbell or synthesizer.
Fun video! Drummers beware of the Bluetooth delay if you’re looking at the metronome while you’re listening. Bluetooth doesn’t work for me for anything that has a visual component the delay drives me crazy.
my percussion teacher has a middle school student who is deaf and he uses the vibrating metronome watch for her so she can feel the metronome instead and it’s the cutest story i’ve heard
In my drumline, one person ordered a xymox pad in june of 2020 and never got it and then another person ordered theirs in 2019 and only got it recently. They had completely forgotten that had ordered it.
Stick bag! A quality stick bag with compartments for drum keys, accessory items like ching rings and cymbal bacon, pencils, earplugs etc. Also DW makes a key that has a knurled top and plugs into a keychain. I have two of them on a lanyard attached to the stick bag. 2 drum keys makes tuning faster, easier, and more accurate. Attached to the lanyard means never lost or left behind.
I hit 3 years of waiting on my Xymox pad in June, so it's been 2 1/2 years so far. Definitely never getting it at this point, but luckily I already have one that's been handed down to me 7 years ago. 💁♀️
My band director has one of those Dr Beat 90's, and every time he pulls it out, we all get scared because he'll put it on a snare or something to boost the sound
Ordered a xymox pad for my brother the beginning of his sophomore year, he is now a senior and we’re still waiting on it. Every time we email they say it’ll be about a month… 2 and a half years ago… 😅
Drum keys! Yes! I have a really nice Tama key, and then I have a Yamaha one as a backup in case I lose my main one. Thankfully I haven’t lost my beloved Tama drum key yet. Fingers crossed 🤞
Heard all these rumors about Xymox and just for shts and giggles ordered a Hybrid Snare on July 16th, they said it' be about 10 days to build and ship and since then I've gotten a courtesy update that it'd be shipped this week. Just as a test I asked if i could order sticks to be shipped with the drum in the same package and they happily sent an invoice of the sticks i linked and updated my shipment. I'll definitely be back on this comment when I get the drum in hand, and let you know if i can tighten the lugs down to spec without the rim snapping.
the soundbrenner metronome watch is actually great from my experience, it just specifically doesn't work very well for drummers. I very much enjoy it because it's literally attatched to your body, and musicians who aren't drummers tend to have trouble remembering to use a metronome in their practice. It isn't so much meant to function better as a metronome than auditory ones, It's just a good way to develop better practice habits, because the tool is directly connected to your body.
It is the absolute best for an educator. It has a tuner, decibel reader, and the Metronome is both Bluetooth and has a simple UI. I absolutely love my Soundbrennar

Or for longtime drummers that did not use Best Gift #2 enough.
Im a hard hitter.
So there are these CLAMPS for the bass drum to help it from skidding away, it has a gummy side and a prickly side. One for hard floors and the other for rugs. 👍👍
For the looks, colored cymbal felts.
Loved the marimba transition 🔥🔥
OH my god it's been quite awhile since I've done any drumming, but that Dr beat brings back so many memories. Absolute classic.
I bought my snare pad about 3 months before it came in. I got lucky with the quicker delivery, I also know that xymox ships very late so I paid a little extra for faster shipping.
Lucky? Pay extra for faster shipping and it still took 3 MONTHS? Hell if it were 3 weeks that would be horrible for me
Professional drummer/percussionist here.
XD
Oh lord... the jig 2 on cowbells...
These Xymox horror stories are making me think I got lucky w my Xymox snare pad - I ordered mine April 2019, didn't come in until December 2019
6:31 i’ve been waiting 2 1/2 years 🙃
Regarding the vibrating metronome, I am not a percussionist (I play mostly stringed instruments and piano) so I actually enjoy this product. To me it helps me to actually have some physical stimulus to help me keep time
That video editing tip blew my mind can’t believe I never thought of that. Thank you
I've used the Sound Brennar vibrating watch metronome, and I could not feel it at all while playing. It was so disappointing. I tried wearing it on my leg too. My band at the time got them for all our members, and one person would set the click and they were all supposed to pulse in sync, but they would constantly go out of sync. It was a mess.
I bought a xymox pad November 2019. It's been 2 years still haven't received it lmao
12:13 - legally you have to do the entirety of Jig on cowbells on the EMC dump channel.
plz.
You have invented the Jig 2 cowbell
My fellow middle school percussionist would be proud
At 7:48, Those black Tenors are Actually NOT GOOD. the 3 and 4 drums are swapped, I know because I bought them and discovered this horrible truth
thank god one of my favourite drum youtubers posted literally on my birthday
ok so idk but my practice pad has like a red thing (not foam or sum) but idk. ill edit this and say the brand
Brand is: A " ' Drum and a what i assume is a bass drum and 2 other things.
sticks
Vic firth 2bn
Vic Firth 5b
and i am currently learning a double stroke drumroll.
Ordered a hybrid snare in May 2019 and still haven't gotten it yet
I ordered a xymox snare pad in October of last year for a Christmas present and it hasn’t come. I also got a tenor pad before that and it actually came after 8 months
Only waited about a month for a Xymox pad recently!
How about a left-handed Drum key? Maybe a left-handed crescent wrench? Oh I need a tuning key for my flubs!!
I recently bought 2 xymox pads. First one shipped in 3 days, the 2nd one shipped in 6 business days. I received them quite fast and i will say their new 2022 14" before they removed them from the websites are wayyyyyyyy different from the 12 inch 2021 pads. They sound and feel opposite to each other
This is great! Glad i found your channel. Very entertaining personality and very good facts!
Very insightful video! I recently bought my first marching snare and I'm having so much fun! Gotta try out those thicc drum sticks next :)
That jig 2 on cowbells was epic
You are an awesome drummer and so humble . I absolutely adore your videos they’re fun and insightful thanks for the fun and knowledge 🤘
Ayooo that cowbell jig 2 solo tho
I’ve been waiting for my Xymox tenor pad since freshman year of high school I’m a senior now
I ordered a set of tenors and have been waiting 8 years....
I've used quite a few different sticks, but my favorite that I found most comfortable for my hands were the Corps Master MS1. Liked them so much I order 50 bricks of them, just in case they stopped making them 🤣
Hey Eric, I'm preparing to start marching band in a couple of years and was wondering if I should do tenors or snare (If they give me an option)
What would be you're preference?
If you're not yet a strong drummer, build up your skills by starting in the pit or on bass line.
you won’t make snare or tenors freshman year. you’ll start on bass line, and then after a year or two you can probably switch to snare or tenors
(Sorry that this comment is extremely long, but I want to give you as specific advice as possible)
I've learned a lot over my 7-8 years as a concert percussionist and my 4 years in marching band, and I just want to share what I've learned over those years.
@@kj_m14 good advice
I swear to god if I get one more pair of those clear light up drumsticks I'm gonna lose my mind lol
I waited 15 months for my xymox quad pad and by the time I got it it was my last season
Composing a comment to say one of my favorite things his how the stick clicks are always louder than Eric asking us to like the video xD
Yooo let’s go, jig 2 on the cow bells
The beard is looking excellent, Eric!
Yessss
I’ve been waiting for my xymox pad since April 6 2019
I hit 3 years of waiting on my Xymox pad in June, so it's been 2 1/2 years so far. Definitely never getting it at this point, but luckily I already have one that's been handed down to me 7 years ago. 💁♀️
i’ve only been subscribed for a day and i love you bro
Hi from Singapore!
Good morning! Congrats on first comment.
My band director has one of those Dr Beat 90's, and every time he pulls it out, we all get scared because he'll put it on a snare or something to boost the sound
This man played Jig2 on some cowbells.. im done lmao
My cousin bought the vibrating met, the wrist one, and he hated it. But one day he desided to put it on his ankle instead and he said it was amazing.
The jig 2 on the cowbells was amazing as my band director would say MORE COWBELL!
2:10 My instructor has like a whole bag of of these. Now the drumline and I call them "Cheetos"
Okay... that cowbell thing was pretty rad. I have enough cowbells around that I should try that....
Best gift = more cowbell.
Ordered a snare pad 3 years ago from xymox and still have not gotten it :)
