Thank you for not making the video about mostly you like many other youtube videos. Some of the videos have very little about the title and way too much about themselves. You are the exception. Nice!
Just visited The Narrows yesterday morning. Definitely recommend renting the water suit package with the wood stick. I took the right when you took the left at days fork in the road. There was definitely foliage scenery to the right. HEADS UP!!! ITS SLIPPERY GOING BACK SINCE YOUR BODYWEIGHT IS DESCENDING, BE CAREFUL.
What a spectacular place on the planet! I am lucky to have seen Zion and this trail. One of the wonders of the world. I enjoyed seeing your great photography and feeling the coolness of the canyons, the delicacy of the green plants, the spectacular rock formations. What a place! A stone cathedral. I tried to hike down from the top - 17 miles of wet rocky terrain in late Oct years ago with my boyfriend. Bad idea. I aborted it before starting. Down below it was 75F - 80F. Up on top of the mountain it was 35F at 7 am. The water was ICE COLD. There is no way you can hike even one mile in those water temps, you will get frostbite on your wet toes. The stupidest decision I made was to believe my BF when he said he had done this trail before and it was doable. He had not even prepped for it, and he had lied. He was the worst companion to take on a trail like this, a rank amateur and me a novice to this trail and not an experienced hiker. After this episode, he was the Ex BF. He put my life in danger as well as his own. If you want to hike this, do it from the bottom up and keep track of time. It will get cold and dark very early due to being in a chasm. Get out before 3 pm and give yourself 1 hr margin till 4 pm. Start early, leave early. If you want to do the whole trail from the top down: Drive is 2 hrs by car starting at 5 am and reaching the top at 7 am. If you abort the hike, it is 40 miles by foot downhill to town. There may not be another car coming up that way again for hours or days. The top is a crater, so no sunlight till 11 am. So you are freezing cold in the air, and freezing on your feet. There is no cell phone reception in the canyon nor on the top of that crater ringed by mountains. You cannot call up a car or 911. In warmer weather, there is flash flood danger, and that means rapidly rising water, a river of raging mud carrying logs and debris that will knock you unconscious, and walls too steep to climb. You risk your life. No cell phones to save you either. The entire path is strewn with rocks and pebbles, so very tiring for your ankles and knees. They will hurt and weaken. That is when you trip repeatedly and hit your hips and head. Do not underestimate this rocky road. One mile is very exhausting. Imagine 17 miles of this! Water all the way down. Some parts are neck or waist high. So you need dry packs and swimsuits and sandals. You will be wet and cold, and have to float your stuff on the water while you swim thru. God help you if there is a flash flood in these areas! The car that drops you on top of the mountain is gone. There may not be another car for hours or days if lucky. Once it is gone, it is gone. You are alone there in the wilderness freezing. Death is a constant companion in nature. It only takes a few stupid moves or carelessness. Pack a space blanket, visor, sunglasses, water, portable water filter, heater packs or handwarmers and fuel, flares, Satellite communication devices, fire starter, food, warm jackets, 2 wool socks, sandals, down booties, warm beanies, gloves, dry sack for backpacks, waterproof matches, mirror for signaling, candy bars, jerky, and so on. Go with 1-2 experienced hikers. Know that 7 EXPERIENCED hikers died from a flash flood in these canyons. KNOW your travel companions- some are blowhards that boast but are not survivalists. Every member of your team needs to be reliable. You are as weak as the weakest member. You enter this canyon, you take a huge risk. Crowds are better than no crowds. Take every precaution you can. Nature does not care if you live or die. You forget one thing, you are in danger. You forget 2 or 3 things, you die.
I did this hike Sunday 26th late afternoon and it was very crowded. I didn't go all the way to Wall Street. I got to just bit after mystery falls and turned back bc it was getting late. Water was cold, about knee and waist high some areas. Don't go on holiday weekend since hard to find parking.
That was actually a track I hand-drew afterwards based on a few GPS units (I do this for all my guides) - the real tracks were a mess... video on that coming soon...
@@Hikingguy yeah, I was searching for one of your video guides and I couldn’t find any cus I’m going to Zion in 2 weeks and I love all your video guides. It help me so much since I don’t have any apps to help me. Looking forward to more of your videos
This place is amazing and thanks for sharing. Always love your videos, but this is one place I would never consider going to because of the zoo atmosphere.
What time of year was this video shot? We are going at the end of March. What type of gear will we need and do you have recommendations for gear rentals?
Was thinking of doing this hike but I have a 7 and 4 year old and the more research I do, this does not seem like a good idea, what do you recommended?
I’m going the first week in November. Do think this hike is advisable or is the weather too unpredictable. Also should I get waders for that time of year.
I would set aside time to go to the visitor center and talk to the rangers for the latest conditions and recommendations. First week in Nov is usually transitional and can go either way.
Yea it's always been crowded when I'm there but haven't done it in the winter. The Riverside Walk part is def crowded in the winter too. It's just how it is.
I was there in January.. wore a wetsuit and saw people on the walkway but hardly anyone went to the water so I had it all to myself actually my husband and I:)
Go to second tunnel. Park walk around to other side down in creek. Then up smooth rock. Other side of tunnel. Climb up onto top of tunnel. When dry creek is dry. Or just run through tunnel to other side. Trying not to get ran over.
Hi great content! We are going November 26-30 any suggestions gear suggestions for the Narrows? It will be our first trip to Zion. Should we just wear shorts and hiking boots or rent the dry pants?
I wanted to make a more accessible guide for a wider audience that had a shorter distance and skipped the deeper sections. Maybe I'll make a vid for Big Springs next time I'm up there.
How can you enjoy the beauty of your surroundings when everyone around you is just snapping Insta photos and making all kinds of noise? I don’t know if I’d enjoy doing this very crowded hike but I’m glad you still took the time to showcase it on your channel.
Yea it's one of those things you do once and move on. I did it on my first visit to Zion and haven't been back at the Narrows until I shot this guide. It's pretty but not so fun with the crowds.
Thank you for not making the video about mostly you like many other youtube videos. Some of the videos have very little about the title and way too much about themselves. You are the exception. Nice!
thank you! yea, try to keep it about the hikes
I liked this one got it on hot day. Water was higher. Waist deep section by cascade.
Was a blast. Did Angels too.
Incredible and spectacular scenery and quite crowded of course ;)

Did you rent just pants? Or full suit? I’m headed there in a few days and think full suit is the better way to go. How were water levels? CFS?
@@Mom2KitKat full suit. I'm 5 feet tall and the water level reached my armpits and my backpack got wet in the deepest of water.
Where is the rental place and do you need to reserve the equipment ahead of time?
@@jennifernutt1698 rental place is at the visitors center, you'll need your parking ticket to return back inside the park
Extremely well made video!
Much thanks!!!

very helpful!!
Is it do-able in late April or is the water too cold, flow to much ?
If it's a dry winter you might be able to get away with it but usually it's high and cold then
Hello, how long was this hike to the floating rock and back? Planning to do this on Oct 9th and thinking about how to dress for it

I have an 8 year old and wouldn't bring him if the water was high. If it was low, going up for 30 minutes or so would probably be fine.
Great video with an areal photography! How long did it take you from the bus stop to the Wall street section?

How deep can the river get?

6 feet if raining or more. Flooding probably 10 feet in there.
How long would that take and what’s the best place to park

Shuttle bus in took me two hours but depending on far back you go.
Can you start at 6am and beat the masses?
yup
@@Hikingguy perfect, that will be the plan. Heading there 7/16-7/20
I go at 1045 am so sun is in canyon 11 to 1230. Only go when 90 degrees out in park.
