This band has an interesting history. And I’m sure I’ll get some stuff wrong. I’ll say first that they have never been a really huge metal band as far as population. They have their following but they never set themselves apart from other bands to really become popular. They make great sounding songs but it’s more about the content of their albums (like the entire horror show album) and their singer, at least Matt Barlow. The lineup has changed so much over the years with John Schaefer being the only real consistent member and founder. They have also had a bunch of different singers including Ripper Owen’s who was the Judas Priest fill in when Halford had left. Ripper took over after Matt Barlow (the singer in this video). Fans went crazy as they wanted Matt back but he had left to do something with law enforcement post 9/11. Eventually he came back and I think they even re recorded albums that ripper had done. The real interesting thing is the founder, John, is a history buff and very proud of American history. Even wrote and entire album about it. He was involved in this little known event at our capital on some January day and I believe ended up in jail now or maybe sentencing was postponed. A lot of history for this band but they never really broke through like other bands. I think you figured out why. I’m sure iced earth fans will fix stuff I messed up. I’ve been listening to them since their horror show album which I really loved. Even found their older stuff which is really good. Newer stuff kind of lost me.
Unfortunately you reacted to a video where they were old at this point. I recommend anything from their Alive in Athens live performance back in the day. It's widely regarded as one of the best live performances ever.
Watching this live performance was like watching zombies with instruments. You’re absolutely right about your review on this song David. I love the way you think and the way you review videos and tracks. Ain’t many RUclipsrs who do reactions that are honest and have a point of view on things like you do. 100% agree they are really stiff on Stage, at least on this Show, personally I like(liked) their music a lot, but not so much the slower songs.
Why do people always recommend this live show when the older ones are clearly better performances...
