The vocalist Matt Barlow at this point had just returned to the band after a 7 year hiatus of being a police officer after 9/11. His vocals aren’t for everyone but in his prime I would consider him to be one of the best vocalists of all time🤘🏻
They’ve had a lot of lineup changes over the years and each vocalist has brought their own flavor to the band. The most notable being Matt Barlow, TIm Owens of Judas Priest, and Stu Block of Into Eternity
One of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands by one of my favorite singers. Barlow, the singer, can be an acquired taste. But most either love it or hate it. He is, in my opinion, one of the most emotionally intense singers in the business.
This is a band that plays to 60 to 100 thousand people in Europe and can't sell a CD in America. Formed in the Tampa area and moved to Greenwood In. One of my favorites.
Grew up right next door to the drummer Brent. nice kid. LOL i say kid as me and his brother were closer in age, Brent was three years younger. Good to see his work appreciated he and his brother spent years spending tons of time in the house practicing music. He has started a new group called Out of Darkness.
Iced Earth is one of my favorite bands. Matt Barlow is an excellent vocalist, but two things. He wasn't the singer on the original recording of this song. And the second thing is that this is not the best song that represents the band and his vocals. I had sent you a request some months ago to react to a band called Ashes of Ares, to which he is also the vocalist for. Unfortunately, Barlow's live vocals can be hit or miss and it's usually a miss on the songs he did not record with the band.
Such a great band, such a great song. Why on earth was this live performance chosen as opposed to the other one. Such a shame! Great vocalist. Bad performance on this one.
I must admit this is vocally by far not his best performance and it seems he was a little tired at this one. But the song was also not choosen to showcase him especially.
If you want the true Iced earth feeling you should either do "the coming curse trilogy" or songs from "Horror story" Like "Damien" or "Dracula" or in my mind even better as im a history buff " THE GLORIOUS BURDEN album"
I love Iced earth but Matt Barlow lost his vocal clarity when he returned to iced earth. I really enjoyed the early Matt Barlow on the album 'Horror show' was outstanding. Tim the ripper Owens (also of Judas priest ) was amazing on 'Framing Armageddon" and "The Glorious Burden".
This wasn't the best song to introduce someone to this band.. and Barlow is one the best singers in Metal, but I can see how he wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea.
To each their own but to me Matt Barlow might be the best metal vocalist of all time. Are there a few pitchy moments in this performance? Sure, but it’s a true live performance with no auto tune and massive range dynamics. It’s an incredibly tough song to sing live and he does pretty well considering everything. I love that Matt can hit some major high notes but also have some great lows that showcase the depth in his tone
The vocalist (Matt Barlow) quit the band after 9/11 to "somehow serve" (paraphrasing). I'm not sure, but this may have been his first tour after his work as a police officer. Check out the same song from "Alive in Athens" and there's a huge difference. I agree he doesn't sound too good on this one.
Matt Barlow's vocals aren't always like this. Give the song Reaping Stone from the album Something Wicked This Way Comes a try. I think you will like it much better. In fact the entire album is magnificent.
Greetings from florida The guitar rob had a project band called demons and wizards you need to check that one. It is him and klaus BLIND GUARDIAN!. Awesome, BUT after they relaxed their last album on 2021 rob was caught in the capitol riot and then it was all over!. Sadly for him and us the fans!. Great reaction Dave!.

Barlow of 1999 Athens is just perfection, this 2008 version is a bit weaker in my opinion. I think his prime was 99 from what I have heard
@@Sarissa99Live in Athens is definitely his prime
@@gavinmaple4696 100%, id say the bands prime too, probably the best live album ive ever heard

@@Hamish_Whitehaven Still are :) we love them.

This is a whole lot of bs right here.
pretty sure I remember reading that Matt was sick at either this show or the other show he was on in this dvd
Another Awesome band on your channel, Iced Earth one the pilars of the US. Metal back in thr day's 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Such a great band, such a great song. Why on earth was this live performance chosen as opposed to the other one. Such a shame! Great vocalist. Bad performance on this one.
Dracula was one of my favorite songs and really the only song I knew from them
David for your informaton, this song don't composed with Matt Barlow. This song is not the most representative of his vocal.
I must admit this is vocally by far not his best performance and it seems he was a little tired at this one. But the song was also not choosen to showcase him especially.

Even with this version of this performance, still can't imagine disliking the vocals so much xD but I guess to each their own xD

To me Matt Barlow is one off the best vocalists....you should give Melancholy or Dracula a try

I prefer the Alive in Athens version. The guitar has more punch bass sounds amazing, and his vocals are way better!
The 99 Athens live version is a lot stronger for the vocal part, give it a chance if you want. Much stronger.
I love this band so much and this song alot
please do dantes inferno i promise you wont regret it!!! another great masterpiece from them
Barlow has a very unique voice but imo it's just not built for live endurance.

John (Jon?) Shaffer of Iced Earth and Hansi Kursch of Blind Guardian formed Demons and Wizards, my favorite collaboration band of all time.

This was a rollercoaster
Missed a perfect chance to do the athens concert which was way better than this
Everyone stop requesting Matt Barlow vocals. Worst of them all
You never understande whate power metal is..
