No, the X-Men knew that the Professor was still alive. From the last episode of the original series, he was taken in by Lilandra to try and save him. Also, if you go back to Episode 7 of this series, during the table conversation with Jubilee, Roberto, and his mom, Jubilee tells his mom the reason why the X-Men had to lie about the Professor's death and actual whereabouts.

I know some people are trying to wrap their heads around Bastion being upset about his mother even though he turned her into a sentinel to begin with. But keep in mind that he was born a sentinel, so for him this is normal. And as we know from a previous episode even his own mother told him he was normal. So, from his perspective, he did nothing wrong by turning his mother into a sentinel.

Also, with the benefit of Cable's future knowledge, we know that eventually all humans become like this and it's considered a utopia. Bastion probably sees it as helping people to the next step of evolution.

Hey guys, great reaction. Cyclops saying, “what did you expect, black leather?” is a call back to the first X-Men movie when Cyclops asks Wolverine, “what did you expect, yellow spandex?” This whole season has had great writing. Cheers guys

On why they split the teams: the Earth's magnetic field is weakening and when it does, almost all life on Earth will die too (the magnetic field protects us from solar radiation). So they HAVE to get Magneto to undo his damage or else the world ends. However, if Magneto reverses everything, Bastion's prime sentinels reactivate and will basically win the war. So they have to take out Bastion first, but they also have to go after Magneto ASAP.

Not only radiation from space as the ozone layer protects us, but it becomes difficult to breathe when the air starts to leave the planet and it will probably affect plate tectonics plates the earth's continents stand on and when they move there will be many different natural disasters.

They knew Xavier wasn't dead. They sent him to space the way they sent cable to the future. It was the only way to save him. They just didn't know if he'd return.

In the final episode of the original show, Charles was dying but they contacted Lilandra and she took him to get healed on her planet. The X-Men and Magneto knew Charles was alive. They then sold the lie that Charles died to explain his absence.

Maybe some people volunteered to be turned into Prime Sentinels, but defently not all. We learn that in episode 8, when Bastion explained to Val Cooper, what Operation Zero Tolerance is. He did wipe the memories after the transformation.

Glad to see you guys finally catch up with the episodes.
This episode is truly remarkable, and the action is masterful! THAT ENDING WAS INSANE!
While I understand Charles's reasoning for giving Magneto the mansion, the man still neglected his students and pupils. He willingly gave his mansion and the X-Men to his archenemy just so Scott and Jean could take a break, which is pretty silly. Look where they are now: on the brink of war, thousands of people and modern infrastructure have died due to Magneto's EMP, and the magnetic polarity of the Earth has shifted so much that the world will eventually end in a couple hours if not stopped, Professor X has lost two team members to Magneto (Rogue quite literally went rogue)and Magneto's line: "God's abandon those who believe in them" is such a powerful line.
I love how the outfits they wear are references to the 60s and 70s costumes. I love how Storm and Jean see each other as sisters, and their bond together is really wholesome. That line: “Make them mind your weather, sister. And them weather your mind" is such a good line!
That Mister SInister and Jean fight was dope, and Jean using bowling balls against Sinister was both badass and funny.
I find it interesting that Bastion still loves his mother despite what he did to her and turned her into a sentinel zombie, which makes me think he's not as emotionless and robotic as we were made to believe since he is part human. It's scary how powerful Bastion is, considering he's essentially a one-man Sentinel factory.
I like how the show also explains a lot of plot holes without feeling like exposition.
Nah, the animation in this show is PHENOMENAL AND GIVES ME MAJOR ANIME VIBES, I LOVE IT!
Magneto has wanted to say "SHUT THE F*** UP" to Charles for a while, and that alone is hilarious!
MAGNETO STRAIGHT-UP PULLING OUT LOGAN'S ADAMANTIUM, JUST LIKE IN THE COMICS, WAS BRUTAL ASF!!!
I can't wait to see the finale next week and hopefully, they stick the landing because this show has been excellent so far and if the ending doesn't land then it would feel really unsatisfying

The blue and gold teams were created in the early 90s around the launch of X-Men (Vol. 2) #1, when the original five X-Men (Cyclops, Jean (Marvel Girl), Beast, Iceman and Archangel) rejoined the team and Marvel began publishing two comics per month. Cyclops led the Blue team and Storm led the Gold team. The idea was that one team would appear primarily in the Uncanny series and the other would appear in the newer X-Men series. After a few years when Scott Lobdell took over writing both series (he was writing Uncanny at the time, and Fabian Nicieza was doing X-Men previously), the teams started to appear frequently in both books as the stories tended to converge more.
The Magneto side of this episode was based on Uncanny X-Men #304 and X-Men (Vol. 2) #25, which were both part of the 'Fatal Attractions' arc that ran through 1993. Uncanny #304 set up the Magneto Protocols (which Xavier and the president discuss) and Magneto's offer to join him. In the comic, it was actually Colossus (a character you haven't seen yet in this series) that sides with Magneto after the death of his parents, sister and falling into a depression while stuck in his metallic mutant form. X-Men #25 has Magneto shutting the power down across the world, the X-Men going to Avalon (the rebuilt Asteroid M base in space) and Magneto ripping out Wolverine's adamantium.
Most likely, the next episode will at least in part adapt Wolverine Vol. 2 #75.

The magnetic field was dying so they needed Magneto to fix that before they passed the point of no return but they also needed to stop Bastion while he was at his weakest while the magnetic field was dying. Bastion had to power what Sentinels he had himself but if things were reversed he wouldn't have to do that and might have the Prime Sentinels again.

on the Motendo episode, some people also understood and appreciated the story about evolving and adapting, to the world, new situations, tragedies and trials in ones life, told through the lens of two people at different points in their lives journey. Not everybody hated on it. I dont mean to call those people stupid, theyre just thoughtless. Theyre not used to viewing situations through anothers eyes and to have it forced on them, made them extremely uneasy. Like it or not, its fine. Im talking about the people that discount its place and importance and wont stop pointing to it as a glaring weakness. Again, theyre not stupid. Theyre just short sighted assholes.

They never elaborated, but if the earth's magnetic field is destroyed everyone would die from solar radiation. Human, mutants, animals, plants.... So they had to go to magneto to fix it. But also stop bastion because the prime sentinels would wreak havock whenever the power came back on.

Love your reactions. Since you guys haven’t seen the 90’s cartoon, here is what happened in the series finale:
Gyrich was debating Xavier (who the world thought was a human who ran a school for mutants and peaceful coexistence) over mutant rights at the UN, when Gyrich pulled out a device that shot a beam at Xavier and caused his telepathy to attack himself. This was slowly killing Xavier until Lilandra (who met and fell in love with Charles during the Phoenix saga) sensed his suffering through their psychic connection. She offered to take Xavier off world to use her alien Shi’ar technology to save him, but told Magneto and the X-Men that even if healed, Charles might never be able to return to earth because of the multitude of minds on the planet might cause his amped powers to start killing him again. So the X-Men knew Charles was alive, they just didn’t he would ever be able to return to earth again. So it was like he was dead to them. And when he does return seemingly completely healed, it adds to their feeling that he just abandoned them for his alien girlfriend. 😊

  • @imthestein

The X-Men knew Xavier survived because Lilandra showed up at the end of the animated series to take him away and heal him. They're upset because of how he set up the will given the world had to believe Xavier was dead

When it comes to episode 4. I usually hate the episodes with mojo in them. However I actually enjoyed this one when I saw the purpose wasn't only fan service but to show that jubilee needs to grow up. In the original series you're introduced to the world and the X-Men through her eyes. And I was a kid in the 90's so having half an episode about her growing up and seeing what her potential could be was pretty cool for me. I still hate mojo though 😂

He played by the book, he saved humans in the proces, got genosha to be accepted by un and still at the end the nation got attacked and genocide was comitted, yet the rest of the world didnt really bother. Even cyclops had that talk with president kelly making this same point. So what is magneto suppose to do?
And then xavier comes back after year long absence and start talking about his dream and accusing magneto on declaring war on humans when in reality that war was declared when genosha was attacked.

He is literally trying to kill all of humanity and mutants that don’t agree with him. 1/4 of humanity is children. Do you think any of them have anything to do with what happened with mutants? 0.27% of earth is part of the military, and a lot of them don’t have tons to do with anything. Blame the Friends of Humanity or Trask and Sinister. Not the planet.

24:10 - They had 12 hours before Magneto’s removing the magnetic field from the Earth would be permanent, causing the sun’s solar radiation to kill ALL life (human, mutant, animal, an plant) on the planet. Asteroid M and any mutant there (or on a space shuttle) would be the only ones alive. Magneto’s arguments were not wrong, but his extreme over-reactions definitely were. He was broken and had just had enough between the holocaust, Genosha, and everything else he had been through.
The other reason the split was needed is that Magneto and Bastian had to be taken out at the same time, because if Magneto goes down first, the Earth’s magnetic field that he is suppressing comes back up, and every Human Prime Sentinel comes back online; killing or enslaving every mutant on earth! 😬

This Episode 9 is also a masterpiece. Oh and this serves as a template for how Live action Marvel Civil War 2 should be since we already saw the short, lame version of Civil War in Captain America Civil War and I can only imagine how Episode 10 will be

Magneto always is terrible, he tried for 5 minutes to try a path of peace, one fail and he decided to give it up. That's always a flaw with Magneto, he's just as radical and racist as the ones who hate mutants.
