- Remember It - Cyclops and Jean have grown distant, unable to reconcile their separate lives. Worsening matters, she discovers he has been communicating telepathically with Madelyne and begins to develop feelings for Wolverine. Meanwhile, after Genosha is admitted into the UN, Magneto, Rogue, and Gambit head to the country, where Rogue and Gambit reunite with Madelyne and Nightcrawler while Magneto meets with the Genoshan council, who wish to make him their leader. He agrees on the provision that Rogue serve alongside him. After telling Gambit about the plan and admitting to having previous history with Magneto, Rogue declines Magneto's proposal during the inauguration gala. Cable arrives to warn the X-Men of an impending attack, but is sent back to the future. Amidst this, Madelyne realizes Cable is an adult Nathan. Suddenly, a Wild Sentinel appears and leads a group of Sentinels in attacking Genosha, seemingly killing Madelyne, Magneto, and dozens of other mutants. Gambit sacrifices himself to destroy the Wild Sentinel, leaving Rogue heartbroken.

Xavier last words to Gambit in the OG series
_Gambit how often must the scoundrel prove himself a hero before he believe it himself._
I forgot about that. Man, X-men 97 is truly one of the best animated shows ever made.
I think she danced with Erik that way because she's trying to convince herself touch alone will suffice. You can tell during the dance she's thinking of Remy--her eyes are closed, and she's enjoying it but then she opens her eyes and is clearly disappointed it's Erik. So sad it took her that long to make the right choice and then couldn't tell him.
Touch alone isn't love, she didn't know what she wanted, I feel she like you said was trying so hard to convince herself that touch matters.
Fully agree she did need to test that.
Rogue breaking up with Gambit made a teardrop... but the end just took it to another level 😭
And she rejecting magneto for him, but not having the chance to tell him😭
Uhh wasn't gambit the one who friend zoned her? 😂😂
He was able to put out that much energy because he knew he was already dead, he usually only puts a little because he’s not immune to their explosions.
Her “Evil Mother” is her adopted mother who is actually Mystique.
1:04 In X-Men (2000) Magneto and his brotherhood of Mutants did hide out on an island. It was the place senator Kelly was brought to and turned into a Mutant but we never saw the island again.
2:31 Dazzler is so cool she as the ability to manipulate sound into light and energy beams. She used her gifts to become a major Pop Star in the Marvel universe.
3:18 Back during her first appearance in X-Men #1 (1963) Jean was introduced as Marvel Girl a title she held onto throughout the 1960s and into the 1970s from my understanding. I can't recall when the name was dropped but I think it was around the time of the Dark Phoenix Saga (1980) when she went by Phoenix and later just Jean Grey. Also calling a grown woman "girl" got alot of backlash in the 1970s so characters like The Invisible Girl of the F4 were renamed to The Invisible Woman.
5:23 Oh yeah Moira MacTaggert is the wife of Banshee in the comics and the show. She's also Scottish while Banshee (Sitting beside her) is Irish. I can't recall if she and Charles had a thing in the comics but she cares for him alot.
5:47 Max Eisenhart was revealed to be his real name with Erik Magnus Lehnsherr being an assumed identity, never brought up in the films.
9:47 This guy on the right is actually Sebastian Shaw who was played by Kevin Bacon in X-Men First Class. The movie showcased a VERY differant take on the character to the comics with the fact he's the leader of the Hellfire Club being the only thing the film took from the comics. Sebastian Shaw in the movie was like three differant X-Men characters mixed together, beside him is also Emma Frost who was also in First Class.
12:51 Rogue during her early years as a member of the Brotherhood of Mutants encountered Carol Danvers, known as Ms Marvel and later Captain Marvel. Rogue infused with Danvers when she touched Ms Marvel even sending Danvers into into coma for a while. For the films they didn't have the rights to anything beyond The X-Men so Rogue never got the chance to gain these powers.
So this is based off of 3 comic runs: E for Extinction, The fall of X, and Mutant Massacre. They somehow managed to combine 3 of the most horrific comic moments into a single episode, and do it flawlessly. As a not so funfact: 16 million died in that attack in the comics. Also the girl you said was like Jubilee is called Dazzler. She was supposed to be in the original series but was replaced by her to appeal more to kids. A person to learn with them.
Oh and one more thing. Go back and look at the sky when the fire works were going off. The Watcher was there. He only shows up for important events.
I'm a grown ass man that cried at the end of a cartoon.
15:21 My man Gambit! 😔🙏🏽
11:52 This entire sequence was in the vision Madeline Pryor had in the first episode! Incredible storytelling! 🙏🏽💪
Well it wasn't in the vision but it was foreshadowed
I am surprised how Beau DeMayo managed to merge 3 different comic books in one episode.
Gambit is dead. Time for Apocalypse and his new horsemen
Awesome reaction of my favorite episode of X-Men '97!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊
Glad you enjoyed it
9:51 Yikes! Emma Frost was savage! 😭😂
"The name's Gambit mon ami, remember it."
Magneto = Erik Magnus Lehnsherr
At least that used to be his real name for decades. Now, it’s Max Eisenhart
The creator of the show, Beau demayo, has said that the depiction of the genoshan genocide was in large part inspired by the 2016 Orlando pulse nightclub shooting. He said that the feeling of a safe space for queer people to be themselves being invaded and massacred heavily influenced his approach in writing this episode and the reactions to it in later episodes. Mutants have often been used as an analogy for oppressed groups, whether it be by race, sexual orientation, gender identity or religion, so his experiences as a black queer man heavily affected his storytelling here
I know this episode is a popular reaction because of the ending but honestly the writers did a fantastic job with everything leading up too. All of the melodrama regarding Scott's interview, the Scott-Madeline-Jean triangle, and the Remy-Rogue-Magento triangle was great and had depth. All of the dialogue was memorable on this one. Plus the animators did a great job with body language like Rogue's subtle facial expression during the dance with Magneto.
gambit in the comics becomes one of the 4 horseman of apocalypse so well see and leech could have sucked out magnetos power to make it look like he died
Rogue can fly because she permanently absorbed all of Ms. Marvel(Carol Danvers)'s powers.
Rogue's "evil mother" is Mystique. Mystique is Rogue's adoptive mother.
Nightcrawler is Mystique's son.
Nightcrawler is Rogue's adoptive brother.
Welcome to the real world of X-Men: suffering, pain and death :)
Lucky for you, the X-Men have a habit of not staying dead for long :)
That's what Jean was called when the comic books got popular in the late 70's... Marvel girl
This episode was flames!
*"The name's Gambit. Remember it."
14:57 "de cards always be in ma fava!!"
Watch episode 22, " A Rogue's tale" it gives you all the details about her powers. Including her flight and strength after she takes out Capt. Marvel. If Gambit was alive, she could feel him.
Not Captain Marvel, but Ms. Marvel. Carol Danvers didn't take on that name until Marvel Studios started plans to make a movie about her, and obviously her costume back then wasn't really appropriate for a powerful female lead, so the guys on the comics book side had no choice but to give her a new costume and name.
marvel girl was jean's original mutant name. i believe she used that until she became the phoenix and after she came back she just went by her name. the reason she would have asked about his relationship with jean is to show that mutants are people too. they fall in love and form families just like normal humans. people can connect with that more than they connect to the superhero who can fire concussive blasts from him eyes.
This is based of Rogue in the 80's comics where she had permanently absorbed Carol Danvers powers
Almost NONE of the X-Men actually have red hair.
Cyclops, Gambit, and Rogue all have brown hair. lol
It's just the animation style and lighting.
Jean is the only redhead.
A promise was made. We will not live our days wondering if we could have saved more. Habe keine Angst.
Gambit died not knowing she picked him, and she truly loved him. Cable better fix this shit.😢
In the comics Rogue could fly and had superpowers because she absorbed Carol Danvers Captain Marvel but in the Fox movies universe Fox didn't have the rights to Captain Marvel and therefore Rogue was stuck with her absorbing powers only.
You are correct that Rogue didn't have super strength and toughness or the ability to fly in the live-action films, but that's because she was still a teenager who had just discovered her powers. Remember that when Rogue touches someone, she begins to absorb their power and then she can use it. If the touches them too long, she absorbs the powers permanently. In the comics, she completely absorbs Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) powers giving her super strength and durability as well as the ability to fly. We just never got to see that version of her live yet. Here's hoping for the MCU version to show an adult version of Rogue with those powers (or hell, she could steal the real Captain Marvel's powers in the MCU since we have a current Carol Danvers).
Marvel Girl is Jean’s codename, like Cyclops is Scott’s. She didn’t go by Marvel Girl in the original series, they’re retconning it here by saying she doesn’t usually use it ig.
Nightcrawler references his first appearance in the series, but they make no mention to the episode where they discover Nightcrawler is Rogue's brother
She went in and kissed Logan
Interesting you picked up on the red hair. Red hair is in itself a mutation, which is probably why the artists chose it so frequently!
The reason why rouge flies she has the powers of captain Marvel. She almost killed her... you need to watch previous seasons...
Rogue got her power to fly and super strength from Ms. Marvel/Captain Marvel in the comic books and 1990’s show, but Carol Danvers wasn’t in the Fox show, so she didn't get those powers.
"I don't know anything about Genosha" that's a flag.
Magnus is Magneto’s middle name. Most people seem to call him Magnus. Only close friends seem to call him Erik.
Didn’t even catch the queen of hearts bit
The main thing is to put yourself on the full screen, and put the video of the animated series in a corner so that everyone looks only at you
welcome to the life of men 10:26
makes me wonder if Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver will appear in next episodes because there gonna be pissed knowing Magneto dead! That'll be interesting if they make an appearance. 😢
If you want to know why Rogue can fly and has super strength, watch the session 2 X-Men TAS episode: 'A Rogue's Tale' , it involves a charter you might recognise from recent MCU stuff.
rouge did not fly in the live action her special powers are from captain marvel Carol Danvers, they didn't have the rights in the old movies. they aren't her mutant powers and they are longer lasting because they are Captain Marvels
I love this show it's so good
Cable said: Not again again! So Cable try to stop something with time travel!
P.S. Cartoon and comics X - men are much stronger than on films, actually X-men team from cartoon and comics can beat Avengers!
P.S. Rogue is one of the strongest x-men, she have strength and flight from touching Capt. Marvel aka Danvers from Avengers team.
If you wanna know why rogue can fly look up the video "rogue vs captain marvel"
Live action she didnt have captian marvels power yet
The writers said gambit and magneto are truly dead
Like this is the problem with clones kind of
Where is the girl like her in my life 😅👌🏻
😢😢😢😢
Gambit is dead....
Beautiful lady 2024
In chess, a gambit is a sacrifice to gain an advantage usually to protect and advance the queen. In this case Gambit made the ultimate sacrifice. A very poetic symbolism. A bittersweet moment. That is why this episode for me cuts deep and now you know why he is my favorite X-Men and even my favorite Marvel character of all time.
Same here
He’s my favorite too! 🥹
Yes Gambit is the best
Mr. Smooth operator will always be my #1

Cable will retcon it
We don't know if Madelyne is actually gone, since Rogue, Magneto and Gambit also survived the initial explosion. It could be that she is still alive. Madelyne does have Jean's powers (except Phoenix) after all.
@@edwinvanooijen7749
Yes, we do know.
The show writer confirmed she just died.
We shall never see their like again. "Now their watch has ended"
Rated E for Extinction. Mah boy Leech was trying thou..
This episode is one of the best pieces of Marvel media ever.
Rogue can fly here because here she had absorbed and permanently acquired the power of Captain Marvel (back then as Ms Marvel/ Carol Danvers)
4:24 My man Wolverine!!!! I respect him for this because he really does like Jean. However, he understands that she's vulnerable because her memories are still scattered. Plus, he doesn't want to take advantage of her and Scott's complicated relationship.
I mean lets be honest here, Scott nuked his relationship with Jean just as he did in the comics. I understand that he is in conflict they both are, but first he becomes distant with Madeline because he finds out she is not Jean and he he has done the same with Jean because she is not the mother of his child. And to top it all off, he is having a psychic affair with Madeline for a month.
@@edwinvanooijen7749bro how is this fault? Fuck Sinister for always getting away with ruining their team dynamics
Immediately after Gambit broke up with Rogue, you can see the Watcher (from What If) watching in the sky behind the fireworks.
Pretty sure it was just the original watcher though and not “what ifs” seeing as he already appeared in the old series, the watchers had plenty of cameos esp in the FF4 and silver surfer cartoon
@@ThePickleMenace420 I know that, I'm just saying he's from What If because that's where she knows the character from. She doesn't know much about Marvel Comics lore so I just told her the show she knows him from.
Just regular the watcher.
In the comics, Rogue permanently absorbed Captain Marvel's super strength flight, memories and conscience. This left Carol in a coma for years.
The reason the live-action films (produced by FOX) didn't give Rogue those abilities is because 2 decades ago, Marvel was facing bankruptcy. So they sold off the live-action rights to most of their characters to other media companies. The Hulk was sold to Universal. Spider-Man to Sony, and The Fantastic Four and X-Men to FOX. Marvel held on to most of their Avengers characters. The Marvel company itself was then purchased by Disney.
Since Captain Marvel was still owned by Marvel, FOX couldn't use any storylines for Rogue that involved Captain Marvel. A few years ago, Disney bought FOX. So now, Marvel has regained access (through other business deals) to all of the characters they originally sold off, so thats why we're getting new X-Men content from them of how the characters powers and personalities were in the comics.
“Cyclops was right”, time to get with Emma Frost and become the legend.
Facts bruh they about to let Emma slide in 😂😂😂
@@TheJmsJose97when I saw Beau confirm Madelyn was dead, I instantly was like…”Emma Frost time baby” haha
@@AzulApeYo I didn’t know that. He confirmed? Ohhh boy. Scott’s about to go to the dark side. And I’m here for it
@AzulApe you sure she's dead was she with the bodies gambit pointed out?
@@VCYBERPUNK2077 Like that person commented, the show's creator confirmed that Maddie is among the dead. There is no body becase in his own words, she got vaporized,
Mon ami. Gambit was my favorite since childhood.
FYI, this show is loosely based on the comics in the 1990's. You might be happy to know that Gambit and Rogue got married in the comics a few years ago.......also they found a way to be able to touch each other.
As far as rogue being able to fly and having super strength - before she became an xman she was a villain. She absorbed Ms. Marvel(Carol Danvers) abilities and unintentionally was able to permanently keep the super strength and flight.
The movies aren't the best source to refer to on the characters because they aren't the source material.
RIP Gambit sad to see him shine in the episode where he dies.
I suggest you watch the original animated series so that you’ll know more of what’s going on. The live action movies served little to no justice to the characters, their abilities, and their relationships with each other
This. The FOX movies were "Wolverine and Friends".
All the issues they address are very adult, Same Issues they face in the comics my dear!
the song playing at magneto rouge dancing scene is from 92, so yep pretty accurate for the time the series is on and the lyrics... TOTALLY fitting with the situation, great work out there by the creators and sound team
The way they slowly removed elements of the song as the tension built was damn good. The magneto soundeffect at the end was great and the rogue voice actress was so good they didn't even show the animation and just let us listen to her voice. They really knocked it out of the park. The mcu has its work cut out for it after this.
@@boricualink I think it is fair to say that the mcu has a very big shoe to fill now hahaha
Hes a Queens Gambit. Because he sacrificed himself for the Queen. Rogue 😢😢😢
And this is where Remy the scoundrel became Gambit the hero, and why he’s one of the most powerful mutants on earth.
Facts
Hey nice reaction. I love tbe chun-li like hair style you have😊looks cute.
Thank you!! 😊
@@DeashasAlwaysWatching You're welcome 😊
the denial of gambits death was real asf 😭
Marvel girl was Jean Grey's first codename when she joined the X-Men. You'll learn more as you go on. Awesome video though keep up the good work 🤙🏽
they did Rogue dirty in the movies
Me when I saw the Watcher looming in the night sky: Oh boy this is not going to end well
Men when Cable appeared: *THIS IS GOING TO END REALLY, REALLY BAD*
This show has brought me back
Yeah it was a flashback to Magneto's childhood. He is a holocaust survivor so he's had it rough putting it lightly. Yeah the end music is just a sad version of the usual theme song. It was a fantastic episode. As Nando v Movies has said "When the X-Men are working well it's three things. Back flips, civil rights, and soap opera"
Love your reaction! My thought is Gambit is the key! The watcher shoes up after Rouge talks to him sitting this course up. Mastermold detects an omega level mutant which Magneto is buy so is Gambit. Also it would do him justice when in the original series they thought he was the one that would betray the Xmen.
I need you to catch up on your comic book lore but other than that good reaction
The shenanigans are about to begin!!!! 🙏🏽💪
People its been like almost 3 months since this episode and i still can’t process it
Just seen episode 5 and omg…..I knew something was going to happen when the intro was different with Apocalypse and Cable…that ending music too 😭 just….wow!
12:52 No, unfortunately. In the comics also in the original animated series, the reason she can fly because when she was a villain, she absorbed Captain Marvel's powers (Carol). Usually when Rogue touches someone, she temporarily has their powers. However, she held on to Carol for so long, the powers permanently remained in her and Carol was in a deep coma. Rogue felt guilty and left her life if crime. She was also confused since Carol's memories were inside her mind. That's when she ran into Professor X and join the X-Men! I really hope we see Rogue do this to Captain Marvel in the MCU! 💪
It would be a great way to retire Carol Danvers if Brie Larson wants to step away from the MCU.
Gambit: "You're not penetrating me. I'm penetrating you."
Gmabits skills and power level was way past 9000. I yelled NNOOOOOO!!! For him at the end.
While I was yelling "yes" a noble death for a fellow sinner
The thing about Gambit, he could easily be one of the most powerful mutants but he holds himself back. And for good reasons too.
This episode summed up:😄❤🩹☠
The Ending Reminds me of the Black wall Street Massacre 😨
Cable or bishop will time travel and fix this
“I can’t feel you” as she touches the skin on his dead body. “Somethings are deeper than skin”.
Your reaction is funny, the last part is a constant state of denial hahaha
LOVED IT!..INTENSE!! another EPIC Episode! and we're only halfway there! ....love your reactions! Love those Storm earrings...that's totally you! see on the next episode.
Okay sorry I am late to the party, But good reaction to the show.
In the comics Rogue has Super strength, Flight, near invulnerability, along with her original power of Absorbing the powers and life force of anyone she touches. Along with powers, Rogue can also absorb some of their memory. While she was part of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, she followed her evil mother (Mystique) and she absorbed Carol Danver's powers and memory. Thus she gained the Super Strength, Invulnerability, and Flight. Carol Danver's (Captain Marvel) went into a coma, myself and most comic book fans would love to see this version of Rogue in the MCU, one thing it introduced Rogue as a grey character, and two, Captain Marvel is very annoying, or maybe just Brie Larson herself.
I hope this answers your question, why the Fox Xmen Rogue never flies, and she only has one basic power- absorption.
Even Moira McTaggert died in this episode.
if she dies...she'll just reincarnated back to her same life with the same memories....but it would be in another timeline.
@jetlorider2818
Moira is just a regular human who happens to not to be bigoted towards mutants and at one time was Xavier's girlfriend. So I have no clue as to WTF you are even talking about.
0:12 Yes! That was Cable! 💪
Not sure if you saw the original show at all. When Prof X was on his death bed, literally, he spoke to each of his xmen telling them something perosnal. I saw a comment on another video mention how the Prof last words to gambit hit harder now since he told him, "how many times must the scoundrel prove he's a hero, before he believes it himself," or something like that.
Another fun fact: not sure if you are into the comics, I just watch random reactors from time to time, but the events in this episode arent just tied to days of futures past. The sentinel wiping out mutants on genosha is from E is for Extinction. Cable mentions he is coming so most likely it isnt Cassandra nova, Prof X evil twin essentially, who sent that sentinel to genosha in the comics. I have a three hunches but i dont want to potentially spoil anything real big in regards to the main villain.
I think they are using both days of future past and e is for extinction events into one. Cable is the key. I also think they will also do age of apocalypse
Genosha was an island nation that claimed to be a mutant paradise but in reality they enslaved them. It was supposed to be analogous to when the Nazi would lie to the Jews that the places they where sending them was good but in reality concentration camps. The X-men fought and freed the mutants slaves and the government was overthrown. This episode shows how Genosha changed to actual mutant paradise well before its destruction.
No, Rogue didn’t fly in the live action movies because she hadn’t drained that power from Captain Marvel, who didn’t exist in that universe.
they also kind of depowered or misutulized like every single mutant in the the live action. I mean there were like 3 stand outs, 4 if you include Ryan Reynolds Deadpool movies; the rest were between bad and good,.
