  • Ford Focus (2008) Hatchback Ball Joint Replacement.
The suspension system of the Ford Focus Hatchback relies heavily on the ball joint. It is essential for joining the steering knuckle to the control arm and enabling the front wheels to move smoothly and steadily. The following information regarding the Ford Focus Hatchback ball joint is interesting:
Between the control arm and the steering knuckle, the ball joint acts as a flexible pivot point. It gives the wheels the essential flexibility and range of motion for the suspension system since it enables the wheels to steer left and right as well as up and down.
The ball joint is made of a ball stud and socket enclosed in a housing for protection. The socket is a component of the steering knuckle, whereas the ball stud is fastened to the control arm. Due to the flexibility of this design, the suspension may move with the vehicle while yet retaining a solid connection.
Wear and Tear: Because of the frequent movement and the weight it bears, the ball joint may incur wear and tear over time. The state of the roads, the way you drive, and the mileage of your car are all variables that can speed up this degradation. A worn-out or damaged ball joint can cause excessive play, loose steering, uneven tyre wear and a suspension system that is no longer stable.
Replacement and upkeep: To guarantee the ball joint's effective operation, routine maintenance and inspection are essential. Clunking noises, unstable steering and uneven tyre wear are all indications of a malfunctioning ball joint. It is advised to have the ball joint evaluated by a competent technician if any of these symptoms are noticed. When replacement is required, it's crucial to choose premium components that are compatible with the particular model and year of the Ford Focus Hatchback.
Safety considerations: The handling, stability, and general safety of a vehicle can all be adversely impacted by a worn-out or damaged ball joint. If there is a problem with the ball joint, it must be fixed right away to avoid further damage or a potential breakdown while driving. To guarantee a safe and comfortable driving experience, routine maintenance and prompt replacement of damaged ball joints are necessary.
It is crucial to remember that the information presented here is based on general information, and specifics or steps may differ depending on the Ford Focus Hatchback's model year and version. It is advised to refer to the Ford Focus owner's handbook or get expert advice if you want accurate and exact information on the ball joint.
I hope you gain something from it.
    Thank you for watching.
    Craig

Thanks for this video, very well filmed, and good dialog, I have a Volvo C70II 2011, which has exactly the same suspension set up, it's quite literally the same parts, as this car was developed under Ford ownership in the mid 2000s, I will be relacing the whole control arm, seems pointless to me taking everything off and not having a new replacement to be honest, I bought a Meyle lower control arm for £76 complete (original quality) no messing around and quicker, don't have to worry about having to replace the control arm bushes either at a later date, they are prone to wear out around the 100k mark, my offside control arm bushes were completely gone at 102k and was replaced, now the other side has gone at 106k, but this time I will do it myself, the garage charged me £208 supply and fit Napa control arm.

The single bolt on the control arm...
it is recommended that you don't fully
tighten until you have its normal
load on it... either from raising the
suspension arm slightly with a jack or
putting the car back on the ground...
then you can fully tighten the single bolt
    😉👍

Bit more expensive but easier to just replace the whole wishbone arm coz the bushes will prob be knackered anyway. Thanks for sharing

Pending a self inspection in the next week, might have to do this to my '08 (North American vers.) Focus. I think I'll replace the entire arm!!

Might as well, seems pointless to me to go to all that trouble only to find a few months down the road, the lower control arm bushes are worn out, I'm doing mine very soon, also replacing my outer and inner tie rods at the same time, my thinking is if one part is duff, then all the other are on the way too, having removed the lower control arm means better access to the inner tie rod fixing too 👍

I paid an extra 7 quid for the whole wishbone. A lot less stressful and much quicker.

I will do the same. It just doesn't seem worth the extra work to get the ball joint out, since the whole wishbone isn't that much more expensive.
