My word of the year is “now.” It’s a reminder to help me not overthink and be fully present in the moment, and to be intentional with how I spend my time each day.
Mine is a phrase too: Burn the Ships. To me this year will be a journey of ridding myself of thoughts and habits that have not served me for years. I've been stuck in certain habits for so long and it's time to burn the ships, to not look behind again, and to embrace who I can be without these chains. Happy New Year!!

Phoenix is spot-on for me. Because 2022 was the "going down in flames" year (September on, anyhow, though there was buildup to the ignition point), and 2023 has been an "ashes" year. It's well past time to rise again.

Sarra, you inspired me to try choosing my Word / Phrase for the year. My word for 2024 is "SISU". It's a Finnish word & culture with deep meanings that can't be summed up as a single word in English. But synonyms for SISU are: go, grit, perseverance, pluck, guts, spunk, etc. I'm a recovering perfectionist and still struggle with overthinking. I want to finish my project asap! 😅

I ALWAYS feel so much better after watching one of your shows. It makes me feel as if I'm not alone. I've chosen a word of the year for the last 14yrs and man oh man...its been a ride. 2024 is my year of perspective. I've been through so much emotionally, physically, psychologically, spiritually, and financially that I'm ready to stop blaming myself... continue on with my therapy and gain a new PERSPECTIVE that I'm unlearning what I learned would keep me safe. My word of the year will be SELF-CARE! I've been neglecting taking time for ME! I really, really need to find time for me and take care of me.
Here it is: Infuse. Any act that creates instant change can be turned around just as quickly. Letting leaves steep the proper amount of time creates tea. Allowing knowledge to sink in and create wholesome actions is the unshakeable foundation of love and life.
My word of the year is INTENTION.
In true Enneagram 9 fashion, I've been coasting through life on autopilot and 'going with the flow' to a toxic point.
This year, I will be intentional about my goals and the things I want in life.
While I want to protect my peace and my balance, I realize that this doesn't mean I need to run away from making changes that will be difficult to implement.
I will be intentional about setting goals based on my true desires.
I will be intentional about regularly reflecting on how I'm going about those goals.
I will be intentional about regularly re-strategizing when necessary.
I will also be intentional about giving myself grace and avoiding blame when I inevitably fall off the wagon.
I will not let falling off the wagon be an excuse to completely abandon my goals but instead, I will let it encourage me to do better.
I have chosen BOLD. I read some where that 'being bold doesn't mean not being scared or anxious, but that I will continue to move forward and not let it stop me'. That is definitely my goal this coming year.
I drew a tarot card to guide me to this year's word. I got Ace of Swords and picked "clarity" for my word. 😊
My word is flourish. I have had major changes in the last couple of years. I have overcome so many things. I found the me I lost along the way, so I am regrounding myself. All that is left is to flourish and grow.
Grow! I want to not only 'grow' my garden, but my writing, my finances, my friendships. I want to grow in all aspects of my life.
I started with BARE MINIMUM because that has the right feel, but it sounds negative, so I went with SPARK instead, but that didn't quite feel right. Something you said during this video got my imagination engaged, and I kinda went into la-la land for a minute... when I came back to earth I was humming INCH WORM and *boom* that's the word I was meant to have for 2024. Too bad it took me till Valentine's Day to figure it out, but better late than never, right?
PS. Just finished Death's Awakening and I was not anticipating Zombies!!! Girl I can't wait to start the next book... dunno why it took me so long to read your novels but what a treat!

I originally thought about "dream" as my WOTY but as I watched your video, I decided instead to use "purge." based on Hebrews 12:1, "let us throw off everything that hinders." A cluttered mind, a cluttered home, cluttered emotions remaining after a narcissistic relationship ended this year, people who are wolves in sheep's clothing ... all this needs to be purged so I can go on with my life. I will be 69 on Jan. 25, and a great purging is required so I can follow my dreams before time runs out to write these books, learn to fall in love with myself, find joy again and release the weight that has been so heavy on my heart and in my spirit for so many years.

My word of the year for 2025 is Abundance. I want to live my 2024 in abundance of life, health, happiness, prosperity, etc.
I'm 90% certain my word will be Commitment. I want to focus on making sure I actually do what I say I'm going to do (eg my habits, my resolutions, finishing some projects) and to do that I have to commit to not only myself, but to what I need to do to improve my life.

In a way, that was my word for last year. It was a word that I thought of often and something that I was working towards.
I didn’t have an official word of the year, though.
I've been pondering this a lot lately. It's been one heck of a year and recovering from cancer and the radiation reopening my surgical wound, so a year later it is still open and hurting has thrown my whole year out of life professionally, personally, spiritually, and emotionally. I was thinking I needed a fresh start, so I was looking at words like renewal, transformation etc..., then you brought up- I think on a Friday coffee chat- the idea of a phrase and I thought, why not just use "fresh start." Then I went to order a Makselife planner and they had a fresh start cover that says every day is a fresh start on the front and the back says that you are enough. I saw that and my heart sang. I knew I made the right choice for my focus for 2024.
“Become”
Become fearless. Become healthy. Become strong. Become a published author. Become successful. Become a better me.
My word of the year for 2024 is Time. I want it to remind myself that my time is precocious and I should spend it on the things and people that bring me joy, confidence and a sense of peace and love.
For 2024--Pay Attention. To self, to spirit, to others.
My word is JOY. I've had several years of deep sadness and loss. I want to cultivate Joy in all that I do. I see joy as an inner state of being that can endure hard times.
This is my 4th year, and I love the practice of picking word of the year.
My word for 2024 is Shift. I’ve found the older I get, I’ve allowed myself to be bitter and easily annoyed by things that once brought me joy. I’m hoping to remind myself to shift my perspective. Also to shift my focus onto others.
My word is FOCUS. I've been so scattershot on the wrong things the last few years. Time to focus like a laser. Everything else is just background noise.
My word of the year is surrender- actively trying to let go and be less attached in those unhealthy ways I often am. Surrender to a flow of life, surrender to a higher power, surrender to a routine and surrender in a way that helps me release control or the illusion of control.
My WOTY was Growth, next year it will be "Neustart", which means Reset/Restart

My word is 'become' as I know there will be lots of changes next year for me and 'become' for me is like "become the best version of yourself", "become the full-time creative you've always wanted to be", "become a flat owner with my own bathroom and washing machine" as I have to share the bathroom with two other guys and I have a twin tub to wash my clothes. It's the little things in life 🤣
Journey is my word of the year. I bought a planner and changed all the dates to make it current. It says "Life is a Journey not a Destination" and that resonates with me because I was on a writing journey before but it was someone else's path, not mine. Took two years of hibernation to figure that out but now I'm gonna take Frank Sinatra's advice and do it my way. If it's too slow, if I die before I get it all done, its okay. I am here for me, not everyone else and the people who resonate with that feeling are my readers.
So 2024, I am gonna take that journey, pay attention along the way, see the sights and refill the well. And write some books that will make people feel better cause all I write are happily ever afters.
My word of the year is Renewal because I will be introducing things into my life in 2024 that I have never done with the hope that I find a renewed love and acceptance for myself.
My word is ‘clarity’. I need to decide what I want from my writing, my relationships, and myself. I need to stop second guessing things and find my direction.

I'm focusing on my physical and mental health, something I've been trying to do for a few years, and while I've made improvements, it's never been a enough to give me the energy I've wanted or helped me to feel like I'm thriving. We recently learned that we're expecting our third baby in August of 2024 (after nearly two years of trying), and I know that now is the time to really focus on my well-being even if it means my writing life might not look exactly the way I'd planned and I'll need to rethink my habits and routines.

Now that I feel I have acknowledged that fear and kind of recognise it, I feel it’s time to make the last ultimate push and that is to publish. To let people hear my voice! In 2024 I don't really have a word, but I like the energy of quality over comfort. I am finally in a place of healing where i don't have to rely so heavily on my comfort media, and I'm on the hunt for extremely quality experiences and media and things that enrich my life

I think what my saying or phrase for 2024 is going to be “Follow Intuition”
My word for 2024 is confidence. It's what I struggle with the most and something that is keeping me from doing things that I need to do in order to get to where I want to go. I was going to say my word was consistency because, so many times this year, I haven't seen things through to the end. Whether it's exercise, or a writing a book. But when I reflected on what I was feeling in the moment I went from committed to inconstant - I noticed a pattern. I'd get to a point where I'm seeing results and I just stop. I think it's because I don't believe I can actually achieve the thing I'm chasing. I self-sabotage and don't finish rather than get to the end short of my goal. The sense of failure is so crippling that I avoid it all costs.
I spent so many years falling short of my publishing goals and spent every single day of those years cementing the thought that it was because I'm not good enough of a writer/author as the people who were successful. I took a break from publishing in 2021 and the distance allowed me scrape off that thought and understand that comparison was a waste of time. And this year, I realized the biggest obstacle to reaching my goals was my mindset and the way I view myself. I'm not sure where to start, but I am talking to a coach to see if she can help me figure it out. Happy Holidays all. I wish you all the best of luck in 2024.
My word for 2024 is “connect.” I feel like I need to reconnect to my authentic self, my family, my faith, my house, and my body. I feel like I spent a lot of time this year trying to distract myself from life that I’ve lost sight of what really matters. So I’m going to be more genuine and intentional, and reconnect with life ✨

I've never chosen a word of the year to date but inspired by you, I decided to reflect and came up with this word: Ephemeral. It'll be a constant reminder for me how fleeting all this is, how quickly time flies, how swiftly a lifetime flashes by, so why not spend my days doing what I love with joy. My phrase for the year is "obey yourself". For me, I've spent too much time chasing pavements so to speak. Vanity metrics and the hottest new thing, especially when I was an entrepreneur. But here lately my intuition has been so much stronger, and its been leading me in the direction that I've always wanted to take. So in obeying myself, I'm listening to my intuition more and letting it guide me over everything else.

My word is 'Kindness'. Specifically trying to have a kinder inner dialogue. I am notorious for speaking to myself in the most horrific terms that I would never let someone say to a person I love. I am going to pause when those thoughts come in and reform that inner narration. I feel/hope that by speaking to myself in kinder language, I'll do it for others as well.
For me it’s Water. This year was Fire. I have a weirdly cyclical life and this year everything burned up. Now the waters will wash everything away.
Mine this coming year is "Courage". Last year was "Do, Rinse, Repeat".

It also makes me smile because my mom, who passed away in 2020, used the word and always mispronounced it as "savver" (rhymes with hammer). We gently teased her about it at family dinners and said we could really "savver the flavver" of the food she served. As I think of the word in 2024, it will remind me to savor my current blessings and the memories of those who've blessed my life in the past.🌺❤🌺

My word of the year for 2023 was "system maintenance"! The idea was that I needed to focus down on doing the kinds of things that would keep things maintained--my body, my home, my mind--and keeping up with stuff like chores, diet, etc.. This year, my word of the year is Jellyfish! I kind of had the realization that I've been a bit of a jellyfish in the day-to-day and tend to go towards whatever's easiest for me--the way jellyfish can't really swim, they just get carried by the water wherever they'll go. This year the word was chosen to remind me what *not* to be--I don't want to be a jellyfish, I want to take control and act to improve myself and my life.
So creative! And it's a great intention.

Mine is enjoy. I want to enjoy life more. This last year has been rough, and I want a positive uplifting word to remind myself of when the going gets tough.
I was thinking Focus - I'm entering the 2nd semester of grad school, working FT, want to have family time but also get back to getting healthy. But my Intent quiz came back with the Dreamer theme. So...I have some thinking to do! One of the words was Manifest, so that might actually fit the bill... :)
