Thank you, Sarra! I know I'll be an outlier for saying this, but the answer to these probs in my life is centering my life around Jesus Christ. I have a chronic illness that's taken away my ability to work and seriously slowed down my writing. I've had to redefine what a fulfilled life even means...Reorienting my life around God has given me joy, peace and security in all the aching places you describe. ❤

Your videos always come along at the right time. I'll be 55 in October and sometimes I do feel like I'm too old. Plus, I struggle with anxiety, and I'm one of those people who can't handle a lot of stress. Luckily, I don't have too much in my life, but sometimes I feel like I create stress for myself just by second-guessing and imposter syndrome. My therapist, and your videos, help tremendously, and HB90 of course. Honestly, I count discovering your content as one of my luckiest moments. Never doubt that you are making a difference in people's lives. 💜

As I listened to this, tears filled my eyes, and I'm where you were 7 years ago when you had Andrew. I was recently diagnosed with Developmental Trauma & PTSD. I've been trying my best to get through each day, and I paused the video to make the call to get on a waitlist for therapy/counselling. It's a long waitlist. Ty for this msg. I'm going to make my list and possibly print out a new empty calendar.

I really needed this. I have severe ADHD and used caffeine and adrenaline to power my way through and build my career. Due to some recent severe health setbacks and a resulting nearly toxic medication reaction, I now have what some would term the ultimate in burnout and PTSD - a condition called Conversion Disorder. This means I "shut down" with what are called psychogenic seizures whenever I experience beyond my new (very low) threshhold for stress... no matter what kind. Have a bad day, seizure. Have a fantastic day, seizure. It's essentially burnout all the way to the fligh/fight/freeze response.
Because I've always been rather Type A, I keep trying to figure out how to get it all "back." But the truth is that I will never be able to handle stress the way I thrived on it before. Your share today was a lot like what my therapist has been trying to get through to me. I can still make things happen, I can still gain momentum and build something, I just have to allow for my bad days and be able to allow myself grace for days when getting out of bed is the best I can accomplish. Thank you Sarra.

6:18 I rewound back to hear you say this more than once. When I left my abusive ex husband, it was because I learned 3 things in a year of therapy. The very first thing was that I had worth. It seems like a simple thing, but when you feel absolutely worthless, abuse feels deserved.
When I heard you use this same word to describe life situations, a lightbulb went off.
It’s true that I feel stuck. It’s true that I feel, in some way, as if I don’t deserve the happiness I am so happy to see others achieve.
I will take this knowledge and move forward today because it’s not capability that holds me back. It’s not lack of support from my loved ones. (I have supportive parents and two wonderful teenagers.) It absolutely has to do with my own self image and what I feel as if I deserve.
Thank you, Sarra. Thank you for posting something that’s vulnerable and open. Too many people are terrified of ever seeming like they fail.
As you explained, the desire to be happy is there. Sometimes I just feel as if I keep doing what I’ve always done, I will know what to expect, right? I’m used to chaos. I’m used to intense pain and trauma. These are my life. But, yet, they don’t have to be, do they?
I want to challenge myself to know my worth again. I don’t deserve maltreatment from anyone. And suddenly, because of what you just said, I realize that I don’t deserve it from myself either.

Omgosh yes to this. I'm 43 and I'm only just starting to write my very first novel ever. And it feels soooooo slow! I feel frustrated that I feel like I am not going anywhere or getting there fast enough. But when I heard you give the analogy of running with a full backpack it just made do much sense. I have crammed in everything I have to do, and on top of that I'm packing in all the things I want to be working on, no wonder I feel a) like I'm not getting anywhere, and b) overwhelmed trying to sprint with a backpack that heavy. I'm not saying that I can't do it, I know that I can carry around this chonky overflowing backpack of dreams, but I've got to build up the strength and fitness first. Then I can go running with it. Thank you so much for all you do and I wish you to know that you have impacted my life more than you will ever know. Blessings always ❤

I definitely want to join your course right away but my pay day is not until Friday and so I’ll have to wait until next quarter. I struggled so badly with feeling like I’m too old now and that I missed out on everything and trying so hard to work hard and change my life. This video helped me to understand for the first time now why I’ve stayed stuck all these years and could never move forward no matter how much effort I’ve put in! I’m just beginning to write a historical novel and feel very inspired by your videos.

Honestly what makes it so hard for me is that my dream life is basically getting the life that most people are born into already as a default. I don't have super high aspirations (I think anyway). I just want the privilege of being able to live most people's "average life" but nothing short of magic or technological advances will allow me to...
It definitely leaves me feeling pretty demotivated to even try to do anything tbh, because no matter what, that underlying fact will never change.

Thank you for making this video, it really resonated with me. A lot of my problem to reaching my version of success is not knowing what I truly want to do in life. I’ve done the whole write out interests, people say write down passions, even with that I draw blanks. I feel I’ve lost a lot of years that way too. That part I need to figure out the most and then I know I can reach success, as long as I don’t self sabotage 😢. I totally understood planning for another person, I feel that. Comparison and FOMO are real struggles for sure! Also spiraling negatively down. I will try your list idea out for turning negative into positive. I needed to listen to this. ❤

I love your content, both here and on Sarra Cannon. You are a great inspiration and a mentor. I have suffered from depression and other health issues. There were months when I was totally paralysed where my life and work was concerned. This was when the atomic habit of 1% helped me a lot; because somedays that was all I could do. Step by step, habit by tiny habit and of course with the help of my psychiatrist and therapist, I managed to get to a point where I am happy with what I am achieving today.

I have the accolades as an author, I’ve made 6 figures, I’m busy with my second degree, and even with so much to be grateful for, I feel lost. The first step is to figure out what your biggest priorities and dreams are, then I recommend taking a realistic view of your time. How much time do you really have available (both literally and energetically) to work toward your goals. Then the next step is setting some goals and breaking those down into projects where you estimate how much time each one will take and match it up with your available time. We do this step by baby step in my HB90 course, but if that's not something you want to try, check out my playlist here on RUclips called "Kanban" board which starts to go into these principles!

If you are struggling with depression or any other mental illness, please seek medical care/therapy alongside anything else you may do for yourself to move your life forward (if possible - I know not everyone can afford this) 🖤 When you struggle with mental illness (or neurodivergency), positive thinking, changing our thoughts, or learning techniques to help change our thoughts is much, much harder (and sometimes impossible) to do on our own. And we often beat ourselves up more than other people do. So, a support system of professionals is gold!

@@ResonatedReadings it's not selling out to get paid for your work though. My point is that I'M not getting paid for my work, whether through sponsorships or Adsense. I put in just as much time and effort as anyone else plus I'm also struggling to put food on the table precisely because I'm not getting paid. There's nothing greedy about making money in a world that demands you make money to survive. I would rather have the sponsorship and be able to feed my wife.

😭😭 I needed this so badly!! Thank you!! I honestly could have made this video for all the similarities. The pandemic was like a train wreck for my momentum. I was going strong until everything slowed down. I just can’t seem to get myself back to we’re I was. Its not even about me comparing myself to others but to who I used to be! I desperately wish I had the money for your program! I have spent so much time, effort and money on so many other programs (I’m talking Tony Roberts level programs)but YOU hit every nail on the head! Thank you for your honesty and for just being genuine and real. I hope the very best for you!

This is so true! Everyone always says, "Don't compare yourself to others. Compare yourself to where you used to be!" But I've been there, too, where it's like omg I'd love to be where I used to be with book sales. And it's hard to imagine what it will take to get there again. BUT, I think it's about a mindset shift. Start from your lowest past rather than your highest. Build up from there! I hope the best for you too!

Working 40 hour days at work and being strung around because I have a 9 year old and not the unlimited time that a retail management position for less than what I should be making (too valuable to let go but not enough to get a raise), coming home, making dinner and being burnt out because I proved to the company that I'm worth it. I'm sitting in front of the computer WANTING to do the thing and knowing I'm not going to be able to put the love into it that it really needs.
When I get my mom paid off in 3 years for helping us with the house then I'm done working retail and I can work on myself. Hopefully these 3 years pass by like this one has. It's already almost September!!!

I suffer from chronic pain, anxiety, depression & psoriatic arthritis (my drs don’t think I’ll be able to go back to work…ever) Most days a struggle. I get a lot of help from my husband and kids. I am going to try your method as i do have these feelings.

I've been coming back to this talk ever since you posted this video. I've probably watched it 4-5 times already, and every single time it has lifted a huge weight off of my chest. Everything you say resonated with me so much that I'm finally able to let go of certain practices I kept at, because that was what most people were doing and attributing their successes to, even though it was causing me a lot of stress and dejection. Your honest video makes it so much easier for me to accept what's not working for me and focus on what's right for me without that constant nagging fear that I should be someone else somewhere else doing something else. Thank you so much, Sarra.

Also, seeing that is baby authors aren't the only ones that go through these emotions and times in our lives has been so helpful. You keep me going on bad days!! We love you through it all.

Omg Sarra it's like you were reading my thoughts from the last few weeks. I was just telling a friend how frustrated I was because I don't feel like I'm where I'm supposed to be, where I had planned to be at this time in my life and I just have this mental checklist of everything I wanted to do in my life and the stages in which I was supposed to do them in and I am just so very far behind. This pep talk was exactly what I needed. Thank you for this video!

When I was in my early-mid 20s I had intense stress tolerance, but when I reflect on that time I had my physical health dialed in. The last 3 years it has been a challenge to handle stress because I’m healing from Epstein Barr-Reactivation (stress induced). We all have breaking points. Those of us who CAN go the extra mile probably shouldn’t do that all the time because eventually it comes back to bite us in the ass. Then I felt extra bad when I couldn’t come close to those same achievements because while I have the capacity to, that’s not healthy. I’ve learned to pace myself while recovering my health and never again will I pressure myself to even get close to that breaking point again. All it did was make my condition worse and add depression and anxiety to the mix. I don’t deserve that… no one does! Take care of yourself and the rest will be taken care of in time. “Nature does not hurry yet everything is accomplished.” -Laotze

I always find it interesting to watch your videos, because you and I struggle with diametrically opposite things. You struggle with wanting so much that you can't get it all done in the time that you have, while I struggle with even knowing what I want in the first place and falling into comfortable ruts. (Enneagram 9 rears its head lol!) That said, I really resonated with your method of creating a list of mentalities that are stressing you and then creating a second list to counter them. I might try doing that and see what comes of it. Thanks for the inspiration!

I really enjoyed this video. And can totally relate. I am 41, and seeing people who are younger than me living their best life is very difficult. I can definitely relate to doing so many things and feeling like I'm working constantly, and I've gotten nowhere. Continously looking at others and wondering why does it seem so easy and quick for them. RUclips is the worse, in a way. I see all of these youtubers playing video games and making millions of dollars, and it's like a blow to the gut when you've worked your ass off and are still struggling. Etc....
Thanks for this much needed video.

Thank you for this video. This really hit me hard after having been sick the past two weeks. The thought I had running through my head the entire time was "I'm getting behind, I'll have to catch up." I know I push myself too hard, heck right now I'm in a downward slump with depression on the entire situation and things going on in our life right now. There is something you said in another video that has really helped me in situations like what you're talking about here. "Comparison is the death of creativity." That's stuck with me for a long time.

Such a fantastic pep talk! You and another creator were the first I heard talk about planning around your energy and this resonated with me so hard! With chronic illness, kids, and adhd, getting things done can feel tough at times! Since I started incorporating this into my planning, it's made all the difference! Also, I am super excited for HB 90 Bootcamp! I bought the HB 90 planner in 2022 and never used it until last quarter ( lol). Once I finally sat down and went through it, I found it super helpful and made the pact with myself to sign up for the next bootcamp. I know this system can be helpful for me if I can stick with it!
