    This quarter's goals in terms of my writing have been a trainwreck. BUT what I realized is that one of my goals was to catch up on all the healthcare appointments I was putting off, and I'm crushing it! Giving myself some grace and looking at next quarter to focus on my writing, knowing that I took care of all the adulty things this quarter--car registration, taxes, all the annual annoyances--has been a huge motivation.

    I feel both called out and seen about the amount of screen time I have per day. I have noticed that being on my phone for long periods of time drains my energy and ambition. I think this was the push I needed to pull the trigger on cutting my screen time, especially games, in half. Maybe even more. Every time I have a spare moment I pick up my phone and get on a game. I'm going to try not doing that for the next week and see how much better I feel.
    Thank you so much for the video and great tips on how to be more motivated and productive.

    At this time I'm struggling with time management which is really becoming an issue. Plus my day job takes up most of my energy so I've been searching within myself and thinking over a way to solve the issue.
    So hopefully I've come up with a way to put writing back on the front burner instead of pushing it to one day when I have the time or quit my day job mentality. I've decided to start waking up on the days that I'm not working at the day job at the same time around 3:30 am, get ready for the day by getting dressed, then start writing the rough draft. I'm thinking along the same hours that I do with the day job but with more breaks.
    This plan is also adding something else I've been struggling with is going to the gym and having a treadmill workout. Which is good for my mental health as well as my body getting some activity in.
    This is my first weekend working on this and so far not so great BUT I'm giving myself grace knowing I'm changing my normal weekend sleep schedule. Which I mean sleep in until whatever time I feel like it then watch tv etc.
    So wish me luck next weekend because that will be the challenging part repeat and this time doing what I set out my plan to do.

    HB90 has helped me gain clarity on exactly what I want to achieve, it’s been a game changer for me in prioritising what’s important. My goals change from year to year, quarter to quarter, but I can always hone in and target what I need in a flexible way. I also enjoyed Ali’s book, read a big chunk of it on the plane recently flying from Melbourne to Perth ✈

    I had just done a brain dump this morning before I saw there was a new video. Health is my big road-block. I get everything all planned out (YPF, HB9), broken down (KanBan), done my EFT and Manifesting, schedule it out, and....cluster migraine, migraine, fibro-flare, arthritis flare...and pushing through the simplest daily life things are the sum total of what I can accomplish, and all the rest of the plans have to go on the back burner for weeks at a time. So, I keep working on my health, as that seems to be the foundation of accomplishing anything else, for me.

    • @dotcassilles1488
      @dotcassilles1488 3 месяца назад +1

      I've lost many years of my life being chronically unwell from a list of health challenges. I am recovering from being bed bound for a couple of years. It's almost ten years since I was at my worst.
      Saying all this to say that health is definitely key to being able to do what you want/ love.
      I've found that unless I set a "time and energy budget" for spending time and energy on health appointments and daily health management tasks then they expand to fill all my time and sap my energy.
      This year I'm working on starting to do the fun stuff with friends and the hobbies I enjoy as I've realised that if I do them first and spend part of my time then these sorts of things (fun and hobbies) fuel me to be able to do the other must do things to stabilise my health.
      Flare-ups really suck. Don't beat yourself up about them or about needing rest.
      Your voice needs to be heard.. Even if you only start writing for yourself.
      Give yourself Grace and know that when you are able to write, you will.
      In the meantime you could maybe start daydreaming or journalling sentences or themes for your writing. If you can read or listen, I suggest a book called "creative visualisation" by Shakti Gwain (I think that the right spelling of her last name but search for creative visualisation on ebay, etc). I think there are even some RUclips videos that talk about her visualisations (the pink bubble technique is what she is known for).
      I hope you are able to heal/recover and get back to the fun stuff.
      Blessings from South Eastern Australia, Dot

    Thank you so much for the videos and ideas to getting into motivation. I used to be able to write 1000 words no problem in high school and middle school, it was the happiest I'd ever been. But after college of Creative Writing courses, I started slowing down, hesitating with every sentence, and I'm not at a point where I can't seem to shut up my inner critic/anxiety. Not to mention with a full-time job of cashiering I get worn out coming home and favor watching videos instead of giving into some writing time, I'd even try to write at work but all my coworkers comment when I'm trying to get in the state of mind, which messes with me, and I only have two 15-minute breaks and a 30 min lunch. And even on my weekends when I get home it seems to be worse. I'll sit down to try to write or type but nothing comes out, or every sentence I write is deleted by advice of the inner critic/anxiety. What's worse is my mom's a big supporter of my writing dreams (that's not the bad thing), she helped pay for me to go to college for creative writing and every so often she'll ask how my writing is going (not in a pressuring annoying way just in passing conversation) and I feel awful that I haven't gotten anything written to a full first draft or published. Lately she's been suggesting looking for work that a creative writing degree works well or write my books. She even thought about hiring a book coach for me. Now I just feel anxious and nervous about never getting anything done and instead of doing anything I always opt to watch videos or play video games because it keeps me calm, and it is mindless fun.
    At the moment I'm trying to clean up my writing desk in a more professional light and wanting to start something, but there's so many projects to choose from nor do I know a good word goal to reach, thinking of setting a timer kind of thing but not sure. Not to mention I came back from my town's Festival of Books and now need to find new spaces for the books. And lastly, on my to-do list is laundry.

    • @HeartBreathings
      @HeartBreathings  3 месяца назад +3

      I understand that inner critic issue! And when you've already got that negative feeling and guilt attached to it, it's hard to let anything creative flow. I love the idea about getting your desk in order. Maybe also try to just write something for fun and tell yourself no deleting and you set a 15m timer and can't hit the backspace. Make a fun game out of it until you've sort of broken through that barrier of self judgment.

It has so many more ties to previous parts of the novel, I had to split some overly dense happenings over several characters and fine-tune some foreshadowing. I might have to replay the video for the parts where my attention broke off. 25:22 you had to use the gym as an example on a day I failed to go to the gym 😩 exercise is my biggest struggle and I can’t seem to break past that belief of I’ve never kept a consistent habit so I never will

      I'm sorry! I'm right there with you! Sometimes with habits like this, I think it's good to go back to "does it have to be consistent"? Like what if it's okay for it to be as often as I feel like it but not consistently at first? And see how that feels. If there's a part of you that feels relief take the pressure off of it. If there's a part of you that's stronger than feels like "no I really want to be consistent" then start at the beginning and ask why? Why am I not being successful with this so far? Imagine yourself having built a consistent habit and see if anything else comes up as a belief or fear. That's the process I try to follow from there, if anything there is helpful.

      I got caught on this part of your response: "I can't seem to break past that belief of I've never kept a consistent habit so I never will" and it makes me wonder if setting a micro-habit for exercise might not help you change this paradigm for yourself.
      So you would pick the smallest thing you could do to be doing "exercise" and that smallest thing is your daily goal (or whatever you want your exercise timeline goal to be). One pushup. Or one squat. Or one (insert exercise that you are able to do that will help you feel like you're exercising).
      And that's it. You only have to do the one. If you do more, then great, but just the one = accomplishment of your goal. It's so small, it's harder to talk yourself out of. The barrier becomes very low. And succeeding means you can see that you can create a habit around exercise, so you can update it later - going to the gym, etc.
      If this sounds like something you might be interested in, check out the book Mini Habits by Stephen Guise. I found it really helpful for overcoming the barrier of starting, especially for exercise.

      @@Kailandra29 I had a mini habit like that for a while a couple years ago, I was having issues with the muscles in my legs twitching and being really weak (side effects of a medication I think) so I was trying to strengthen little by little I would do 10 squats whenever I felt my muscles twitching. I’ve thought about doing something like that again but it’s hard to remember without the usual cue to remind me why I’m doing it, so I probably need to think of a new cue I guess.

    Loved this video.. I want to become an author by summer and am working on a story called Flower Kingdoms of Spokane Washington. But I have a full time job that I have to get up at 5am to just catch my first bus to downtown Spokane to catch my second bus to get to work by 7 and sometimes I don’t get home until 5

    I hate resting too. My drive is annoying to my partner. It's like a fire under my tail 24/7 with ADHD. Relaxing is very difficult for my brain because of trauma and I know this about myself through therapy. I'm really struggling with using task blocks. When I put structure and try to compartmentalize my time it makes my brain feel less creative and less creative energy. I track my daily word count. Any suggestions?

    Is the HB90 course geared toward authors/writers specifically or would it be useful for anyone? I'm a big planner/time blocker and your method has me SUPER intrigued!!

    • @HeartBreathings
      @HeartBreathings  3 месяца назад

      It's for anyone who wants to set goals! Right now a good bit of the examples are specific to writers or audience growth but the system itself is used by PhD students, realtors, entrepreneurs etc. So it can really be applied to anyone! If you struggle at all to figure out how to apply it to your goals I'm always there to help!

    Sarra- I have just started reading a new book called WORTHY by Jamie Kern Lima that addresses what you were talking about. We sabotage ourselves because we don't think we deserve to be special. I'm dealing with that right now with writing my first book. What if I finish it and it actually sells? Then I might have to do a book tour, or do interviews and people would see I'm nothing special, that I'm a fake. I'm not remotely attractive enough to be out in the public eye like that. You might want to check the book out. I'm only on Chapter three, but it really speaks to me.
    By the way, I'll see you in Colorado next month at PPWC. I'm excited!

      The HB90 Bootcamp isn't free, but you can check out my "Kanban board" playlist here on RUclips and get a really good start there with seeing how to start setting up a system that will help you get out of being overwhelmed. The class is $199 or there's a 3 or 6 month payment plan. If that's not in your budget definitely check out all the free videos here! Https://heartbreathings.teachable.com/p/hb90-bootcamp
