@CINE Thanks for commenting! 😊 It's good to know that Big Sur has caused some of the compatibility issues for you. That will be helpful for others watching this video that are experiencing the same problem. Have you managed to get any of those plugins to work again? Or have you been able to get updated versions from any of the plugin developers yet?
@CINE Glad you were able to go back to Catalina! I 100% agree. Hold off on Big Sur for now until loads of other people have it working (with the plugins too) before updating.
@@Brad_West thanks for the heads up. I'm in the same situation, updated to FCPX 10.5 and still using Catalina. FCPX seems normal and everything is in place i believe, but when I try to upload a project from FCPX 10.5 to YT, it shows I'm signed in and upload "successful", but when I go to my YT account, the video is not there. I tried signing off and on, also tried to sign on a dif YT account and upload, same issue, successful upload but can't find the video. Really not sure what is happening w my situation, but i'm def not gonna update to Big Sur yet.
@@BZBTVchannel Yeah I wouldn't risk updating to Big Sur yet either. Not unless you have backups in place and take the necessary precautions. Like I mentioned in my other comment, try resetting FCPX preference to see if that solves the problem. Let me know if it works for you 😊
Dude! I was thinking of making this exact same tutorial, but you totally nailed it way better than I could have. I'll just share this video around instead! Great video!
Great tips. I upgraded to 10.5 and it was a painless transition. I think I got lucky. I’ll definitely back up the libraries in future; that’s a great takeaway tip.
I'm so glad to hear that someone has had a good upgrade experience 😂 The majority of folks have had bad experiences. Thanks for sharing some good news 😊
very helpful. had migrated my Main library to an external drive, and when my son did the update, it deleted all other libraries that were not on an external drive. I managed to recover all my files after updating. But would honestly say this was by accident
That’s so strange! It should have left the other libraries alone. If you ever need to, you should be able to access your backups in the “Final Cut Backups” folder in the “Movies” folder. I’m glad you were able to recover your files though 😅🙏🏼
Hi. I recently migrated several libraries to 10.5, I made a backup of all of them in 10.4 in xml ... thanks for the tip on how to return to the previous version, I did not know and it is very simple. I have not had any problems but I hope it continues like this
Hi Howie. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think you'll be able to backup a trial version. Otherwise you could just keep restoring that version and never have to buy FCPX. I don't think Apple would make that possible.
thx for the tips, I'm currently stuck in 10.4.8 as upgrading to any version higher makes both the Generator & Titles folder disappear in the program itself. Been trying to find a fix to this issue for the longest time but to of no avail. Any suggestions here?
@@Brad_West yeah, tried everything, hence that's why sticking back to 10.4.8 was the only solution, at least for now. I can't go 10.5 as I'm still on Mojave.
I updated and everything WAS going really well. However, today when I opened it, none of my projects appear in the time line. I see the projects and assets on the left and I see the coverage in the viewer to the right, but the timeline below only shows the icon "New Project" and otherwise black. I can't seem to figure out how to fix this. Any thoughts?
That's weird! I can make a few suggestions of things I would try. 1. Can you export an XML of that project by selecting the project in the browser window and heading over to File > Export XML? If so try that, and then import the XML into a new project. 2. Try to open a backup of the project in the Movies folder under Final Cut Pro Backups? 3. Trash FCPX preferences. If you're not sure how to do this, there are tons of step by step guides online, just search "how to trash FCPX preferences" and follow the steps. 4. If none of these ideas work, I would try to roll back to a previous version if you have it backed up. I hope that helps!
@@Brad_West Tried every method, except rolling back, and nothing worked. Everything looks just fine, but nothing shows up in the timeline for any project. Anyway, I suppose I’ll wait for to release an update. Thanks for the help!
If you have a newer version of FCPX there are a couple of different options for proxies. Have a look at this: support.apple.com/guide/final-cut-pro/create-optimized-and-proxy-files-verb8e5f6fd/mac Hope that helps! 😊
I was in the middle of a project and did not upgrade because of the reasons u mentioned...but for some reason it chose to grade by itself when I fell asleep, now woke up and the plugins are missing and it just quits every time I try and open it smh
Ah how annoying! You might have auto-updates enabled in your app store settings. Maybe try reset FCPX preferences to fix the crashing problem. If you google "reset FCPX preferences" you'll find a step by step guide on how to do it. For the missing plugins error, I would recommend trying pFixer which is a free app. (Google “pFixer FCPX” and it should be the first link). Hope that helps! 😊🤞🏼
@@Brad_West Thank you...tbh actually luckily most of my plugins actually got saved, with the exceptions of a few effects and transitions, all which I saved, so I just re installed them, and they are back working and tbh this 10.5.2 update so far is good,FC seems to running a lot smoother, but I will learn to disable the automatic update, because this person I was doing a vid for is a real diva and drama queen lol
Does your final cut pro license become void after you update mac os? I've seen this on some forums and I didn't know whether that problem still exists.
hey when I updated to the FCPX 10.5, I noticed the 'Delete Render Files' option is no longer there!! i'm not sure how i should make space to edit now without deleting optimized or proxy media, and if doing so will get rid of anything I need. Do you know how to get around this?
With the library selected, you should be able to go to File > Delete Generated Library Files and from there you can check all or unused render files to delete. I hope that helps 😊
Does anyone know of plug ins that are optimized for the M1 chip? Pixel Film Studios Plug ins do NOT work with Apple silicone. Huge disappointment. I do all my projects with them and now I'm left with no titles, transitions etc. UGH!
Unfortunately, I updated a few days ago. My issue is when I sign in to my YT account from FCPX version 10.5, and then upload the video, it says the upload is successful, but I can't find the video on my YT account. I go to check if I'm signed it, and it shows that I am not. It's weird bc it shows my upload was successful. Has anyone encountered this? My temp fix is saving a master file on my desktop and then uploading to YT from my desktop. This is an extra step I would like to eliminate. Pls advise if anyone else has the same issue and a solution. Thanks,
That sounds like a strange bug. Maybe try resetting your FCPX preferences (if you search Google or RUclips there are step by step guides on how to do it) and maybe that will solve the problem. I personally always export a master file so that I have a backup of the final edit. 😊
Have you upgraded yet? Are you waiting before upgrading? Let me know which one and why in the comments below 😊👇🏼
