Great tips here thanks for sharing, enjoyed watching your travel videos they are awesome would you consider doing a tutorial on how you make your travel videos x
Great suggestion Matt! I'll give some thought as to how I might put that together 😊 Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@Brad_West would be great if you could 😀 i struggle to get my videos from a 3 week vacation down to something short so people dont get bored but i do only know the basics in fcpx !!
@@mattjstar Yeah it is tough to cut vacation footage down because it's so personal and generally you want to capture and share ALL of the things you did and saw. It's a challenge we face as well. 🤣
We end up needing to be ruthless in what we cut out and what we keep. For our series of Europe vlogs we shot about 1.2TB of footage which was roughly 24-28 hours of footage 😅
hi thank you
You’re welcome 😄
What I've learned from watching this video:
- option + square brackets to trim the beginning or end of a clip (this will save me thousands of clicks!!)
- press R, select a range, then in- or decrease the volume with keyframes on this part of the clip, then press A to adjust the keyframes if needed
- letterbox look (cinematic): adjust the top and bottom crop. Copy and paste effect onto other clips
- using the search bar to find the same elements (faster than searching and scrolling the timeline)
- if you assign audio roles, search for that audio role. Select first one, then cmd+A to select them all. Change audio with control and minus or plus key
- make proxies for faster playback if your pc can't handle the editing: Select all clips in browser window, or file > transcode media > create proxy media + ok. When it's done, go to view and select proxy. Takes time so do this before you start editing. REMEMBER to switch back to optimized/original media before exporting the project!!
- import xml: add elements that you repeatedly use in your videos (eg intro, outro)
Glad you found the video helpful 😄
One of the best FCPX channels I have discovered so far. Thank you! Can I ask something: If you have more than one Adjustment Layer, how do you adjust them all together?
Thanks for saying that! Means a lot 😊🙏🏼 Is there a reason you have more than one adjustment layer as opposed to putting all your effects onto one adjustment layer?
@@Brad_West That question is fair enough... Aint there a difference to use a few instead of putting the effects all in one?
Not really no. There’s nothing wrong with doing it that way, you’ll just have more layers on the timeline. I prefer to add all the effects on one adjustment layer. I hope I helped here, not sure if I answered your question? 😊
I can't believe there are so few views! Such a brilliant video!
However, I can't find a tutorial that would show me how to save time on creating animated images with captions. I tried compound clips. I thought I'd just switch images in my compound clip and all the animation and the size of the image would stay the same, but it didn't work. Replacing with another image wipes out all transitions and I have to adjust the size of that new picture and move it to the initial place.
Damn, I struggle a lot with that! Hope someone knows how to speed up the process.
Thanks very much! Appreciate that! 😊 What you're trying to do sounds like something I would use copy and paste attributes for and then possibly make minor tweaks after that. Did you try that? 😊
Can I download your brain? 🤣 great helpful videos thanks 👍🏻
Hahaha 😂 Glad you found the video helpful! Thanks for watching 🙏🏼
How do u keep the playback cursor fixed in a designated place on and off so that you can avoid re-pointing the marker every time you are using spacebar to review various multicam angle in the timeline?
To do that you can toggle skimming on and off using the shortcut S. If you look at the little icons above your timeline to the far right, it’s the first little icon. Hope that helps 😊🤞🏼
@@Brad_West thanks bro, i’ll let u know if it works 🙏🏼
Please do 😊👍🏼
Hi Brad,
Maybe you can help me with something. Sometimes I’ll click on the timeline, and accidentally drag the mouse down or up, and this somehow separates the timeline. I don’t know how to undo it, or what it even does, so I end up closing FCP and re-opening it, and that sets the timeline back to normal. Can you tell me what I’m accidentally doing, and how to undo it?
Hey there! It sounds like you might be opening the precision editor by mistake. You would just need to double click on the cut to go back to normal. I talk about the precision editor in this video (point #3): ruclips.net/video/9YEsq_2dJ2Q/видео.html
Hope that helps! 😄🤞🏼
Ok, thanks!
When i try to save still images via “save current frame” it blows off to full white the masks i have applied to the clip and i can't solve the problem. I know this is not relevant to this spoecific video but i tried to contact other creators and no one is able to help.
thanks
Hey Marco. That's a really weird error. If I were in your shoes I would probably try one of 3 things (and in this order).
1. Open a backup of the library from Movies > Final Cut Pro backups and try to export again.
2. Export an XML of your timeline by going to File > Export XML. Create a new library and import the XML, try again. (An alternative here, export the XML and move the footage to a new location or another drive, that will force you to reconnect the files when you import the XML into your new library).
3. Trash FCPX preferences. This will reset all your preferences but might solve the glitch. Google how to do it for a step-by-step guide.
I hope one of these methods work for you. Let me know! 😄
Hi
Hey there 👋🏼😊
Great tips. Why not put 10 at 1? ;)
Haha! 😆 I did them in particular order, but number 10 seems to be a favorite 😊
@@Brad_West Looked easy when you did it. I can't the XML file after I hit Import.
@@StephenWEwart You can't find it? Or you can't select it? When you export the XML, there are generally two versions of the XML that you can export. Maybe try exporting the other version to see if you can import it that way? 😊
@@Brad_West I import it, but it doesn't appear in my library. Tried both versions. Tried dragging it in from the Finder too. A green plus comes up, but nothing appears in the library.
That’s weird. When you exported the XML, did you have the project/timeline selected in the browser window? Sometimes the XML will be imported into a new event.
After importing, click on the drop down arrow next to “Smart Collections” under the library name and select projects. Let me know if it shows up then?
