I used to use the Shift+B method, but honestly I think your method gives you so much more control. Love the tips about moving the thingys to increase the smoothness too, that works really well. Thanks for the video, you have made my speed ramping work so much more enjoyable and effective!
"Changing the end frame" thank you so much for that tip, been struggling with end my speed ramps where I want them! Clear delivery too. Great channel, keep up the good work.
Using the range tool to speed up to the end point looks much better than cutting a clip and just speeding it up. Thanks for the simple tutorial, going to start implementing this into future videos!
If you press Shift and B it creates the in point and out point on the clip also adding the speed ramping controls and then you can manually adjust the speed, which is faster method I feel.
i didn't know i needed this - great video Will, appreciate this a ton! Been using the jarring effect for too long. Excited to try this out. I would compare that little gray area you mentioned to the same fundamental concept of an audio fade tool - gradually eases in and out, but you can manipulate exactly how much you want it to fade in and out. Thanks again! -Brian
Thank you 🙏🏾 I have to say I love your teaching style it’s clear it’s concise it’s broken down with multiple examples! You have a new sub and I hope you have the time to do more tutorials! As a newbie creative this kind of information is invaluable so kudos and thank you!
Personally I think you could time the ramps in and out to where you want it when the beat hits. For example, when the kick hits on a trap beat, you could start the ramp and then fade it out after the snare or something. Does that make sense? I can maybe think about making a video on it
Will, a video idea - how about a video on speed ramping to music? I could really do with some help for my motorbike videos.. speed ramping to music would really help me out!!! Thank you if you can do it
Hey man, nice tutorial! I was wondering how your playback is so smooth? When I just import one clip and speedramp one section the playback is laggy/not smooth. I have just reinstalled Final Cut Pro and deleted google chrome. What can I do to make the playkback smooth when editing with high speedramp values? Cause when the playback is laggy it's impossible to fine adjust your speedramp editing points cause you basically are working with blindfolds on. I have a MacBook Pro 2023 16inch M2chip 32gb ram 1TB storage. Would love to hear your thoughts on this.
Im using exact same method, I have smooth normal speed, I have smooth fast speed but I get jumping/ choppy stutter that transition. Do you have any idea why just the transition of my panning drone is bad? I could see little bit of that jumping at your video at 4:53. Thx

Been trying to get this effect with just the shift B like someone said in the comments..... never got it this smoove and you can't... and you can't edit your edits..... only undoes... and wr all kmow they go in order like backups.... anyway Still trying to get all the very very smoove
But what to do if I try to slow that clip down by draging on the right upper corner. And when doing that it expands not only to the right, but in both ends?😬
I watched a ton of tuts on this topic and this is the best explanation so far. Liked & subscribed. Please do more tuts regarding FCP like this. Many thanks👍
There is another easier way rather than using Range tool. Which is : SIMPLY go to where you want the speed ramp start and PRESS "SHIFT + B" .. That's it. The rest are works the same as you told.
awesome job man! So you use the range tool instead of using (shift + B) to set your speed ramp points? Just double checking that I'm not missing something. Also thanks for showing you can double click on the line to edit your speed ramp points, I've been trying to figure that out.
This is great pal, thanks for the video and loved the delivery. Problem I now have is I will be speed ramping like a demon in all my edits now, I won't be able to help myself..!
Been using FCPX and speed ramps forever and STILL learned something!!!!
Let’s go! Glad I could help you out in any way
I’m with you dude I’ve been using it since the beginning of high school and this will be great to use!!

Thanks for this wonderful short and concise explanation
Using the range tool to speed up to the end point looks much better than cutting a clip and just speeding it up. Thanks for the simple tutorial, going to start implementing this into future videos!
Amazing tutorial. Many thanks. You can call the thing you don't know "ramp speed handles"
Thank you for this clear explanation. Just moved from Premiere Pro and literally couldn't understand how this worked. Thank you!!
If you press Shift and B it creates the in point and out point on the clip also adding the speed ramping controls and then you can manually adjust the speed, which is faster method I feel.
Yeah idk why he’s suggesting using the range tool. Shift + B much faster!
your shift B comment is very usefull! thanks dude !
Thanks.
U save my life either ❤️

I always used shift B but actually like your method better!
You can do the very same thing with the shift+b shortcut also

Thank you! That’s awesome, I’m glad this video helped you out! And good point about the fading in and out. That makes sense.
You can easily press SHIFT + B rather than using range tool.
Great video tutorial I can't wait to try this .

Same. Only thing I can do is export the clip to actually see the results. 🙄
Try using proxies and select proxies preferred in the playback settings. It worked for me. @@vincentkonkel9627
Also select better performance instead of better quality in the playback settings + close all other apps that use CPU power.@@vincentkonkel9627

(SHIFT B) SHORTCUT KEY
Remember, CMD R to enable speed ramp, Shift B at 2 points and the adjust and Shift N to reset if you mess up!
Great to seethe Battery in Charleston in those early clips.
I'm on James Island... about to binge watch the other cool-looking FCPX tips.

Good method. I tried the speed ramp option in the right-click menu and it created a disaster every time
use SHIFT + B even easier bro
Great Video. I'm switching from Camtasia, back to Finalcut pro. I think I've forgot everything! LOL

You got it! I use the range tool. I’m glad the video was helpful to you
Im same with you, I choose SHIFT + B .. and yes the edit speed ramp points is a good trick here. Salute
@@teddymanangka is the range tool essentially the same thing as Shift+B?
I knew speed ramp method I accidentally watched this video. It confused me and I forgot everything.
Appreciate the video but I couldn't tell a difference between those two clips in the beginning. What am I missing?

😎🙌 Thanks for that vid, bro! Stray to the point, keep it up!!!🤟
Just wondering as don't think I heard you mention it but what frame rate are those videos originally filmed at? Thanks.
Great video by the way!
I believe 60fps - you can use any frame rate to speed up but slowing down depends on recorded frame rate 👍
thank you so much WH great video for us idiots using FCPX as amateurs lol.👌👌👌👌👌
No such thing as idiots in this space! We are all new at something at some point.
