Learned the first part, no one does complete song lessons with solos like you Carl, that's your signature! Greetings from Costa Rica, another amazing accurate lesson, going for the solo now! 🎸 🎶
I actually searched this up for a guitar group on fb for someone who has a gig coming up in December and this was requested. I will be learning this, I am able to follow along thanks to your Great lessons (Always are)! I always check if you covered a song before getting into someone else. R.I.P. Randy Rhoads! A Legend! Always! ☯️
Playing this on a Frankenstined acoustic with steel strings, & hi E & B tuning pegs missing stinks. Not to mention the rattling of the 4 strings I have. My 3 guitars are pawned, addictions destroys everything! My laptop miraculously is the only piece of equipment I don't pawn. God give me strength to to get clean, but my own willpower needs to be there. These lessons inspire me to quit my bad habits & start making RUclips videos again, thanks Carl!
I take a shortcut, at 8:45 ; you still get the same tones, just using a simpler, concise pattern. Instead of going back and forth I just use some open strings and use only frets 2 & 3 so it's all right there up & down. G string== 3--2--open D string ==3 hop back to G string== open now hop up to D string== 3--2-- open and jump up to fifth string for last note A string== 3 third string(G) play 3 - 2 - open; then 4th string D- hit 3rd fret- then play one open G string and now back up to D string & play frets 3- then 2 & then open; and then, jump up to A string and end it with that 3rd fret. I find it easier and more concise this way, but I imagine as long as the same notes or tones are played then it should be ok. So it's just the three strings with just frets 2 & 3 and open notes.; everything is very close, just up & down. Clearly, I'm cheating since I'm no Randy Rhodes...shit, I'm more like Randy Quaid. Just felt better playing it like this although I realize this would not be acceptable for serious players but I just learn by myself with all your great RUclips videos as a guide, so I'll take what I can get as far as simplifying some things. As thanks, I have donated to and become a monthly patron of a couple of individuals' guitar channels to show my appreciation. I also tend to let advertisements run their course in hopes that might add to a RUclipsr's ad revenue. I never downloaded or plan to get Adblock. Some day I'll do the right thing and get an actual teacher, Until then,,, Cheers...Jennifer
Randy used Marshall JMP-series Super Lead 100-watt heads with 4×12 cabs (up to 3 full stacks on stage) with an MXR Distortion+ and MXR 10 Band EQ along with a handful of other pedals and effects. Mostly, he used the Disto+ and those JMP's pretty much dimed. He was also known for cranking mids through the roof as well which is essential for the tone. All of this info is well documented, a quick google search will net you enough info to make you drool a lake over the gear, empty your wallet trying to buy it, and make you go deaf trying to replicate that tone.
I was chasing a very heavy, crunchy, chugging metal tone but not too bass-heavy or muddy while also not being too bright and tinny. I use a 60 watt Laney combo amp and a 20 watt Laney amp with preset guitar tones and a few effects built in. I recently bought another guitar and while on the Sweetwater website, I also added a Boss ME 80 multiple effects pedal board. I love it. Plenty of your go-to effects as well as an eq, noise suppressor built in and pre amp settings that model different types of amps' tones, like stack/metal/lead/combo/crunch and clean. Then under the Overdrive pedal settings, it's got great tones to choose from like metal DS/distortion/turbo OD/ Tube Screamer/ blues/ turbo distortion/ core/fuzz and octo fuzz. Then you can further tweak the settings you choose with all the knobs. It even has a wah pedal built in, as well as plenty of room to save your different tone settings and switch between them in memory mode or regular manual mode. I love this thing. Think there must be different models to choose from too. I paid about $299 a few months ago.
No pedal. It's just his polka dot V or white Les Paul custom into a cranked Marshall with as much gain as possible. When you have a RIDICULOSULY powerful amp with a brilliant gain stage, you can get that blistering sound without pedals. Distortion pedals only muddy your sound, unlike a good Marshall gain stage, IMHO.
Thanks for the lesson, but on a live video it looks as though Randy plays the Dm at the start of the riff as a regular Dm as in loose D string, 2nd fret on G string, 3rd on B string and 1st on E string. Not much of a difference in sound though. Just wanted to mention it :)
I know u made this comment a year ago but thank you lol, I couldn't figure out why that first chord sounded off. Does he also do this for the rest of the times the d minor chord is played?
I just watched this song live from the night he and Zakk played it during the eclipse, I think Zakk was in dropped tuning, it sounded really low and heavy.
I can learn all of Randys stuff kinda close but even if I master it I will never be him. Randy would suggest to players to get your own style from practicing and practicing. Try not to get too hung up on playing other guys stuff.
why is it that Rhoads played with the fingers of his picking hand splayed outwards? I've never seen anyone else play like that, or at least, not as prominently as he does.
Because he's Randy. I have no idea how he does it. I tried because at first I thought it was just a better position but it's really hard to play like that because your hand is stressing and it's not relaxed.
best solo in history. thanks for making this video i first heard this in 1981 and the worlds jaw dropped. never been another guitarist like RR
Allen Lichner Marty Friedman can beat the shit out of Randy’s playing
@@tosh5376 well that’s like saying Eddie is better at guitar than Eric Clapton at shredding, but Clapton doesn’t care to shred, but rather blues.
@@tosh5376 like the other commenter said, different playing styles, randy isn’t even my favorite guitarist but his talent is definitely undeniable
4:11 "Hit that and kill it"
That's BRUTAL
5:03 - First Fill, 8:09 -Second Fill, 9:52 -Third Fill (After Main Solo)
I know it's late but thanks

Killer lesson Carl! This is my favorite song to play on guitar. Great riff and solo! Thanks for all the great videos. Rock on🤘

Watching someone else is much easier for me to learn. I tried sitting down with tabs and listening but this I figured is how I learn things
That means you suck and should quit playing guitar now.
@@humanbeing2420 guess you just picked up a guitar and immediately started shredding
9:08 lol pause, my boy! dope lesson, though. thanks so much.
Carl you are a legend man . Thank you so much for posting this
Youve earned a sub.
Awesome I am learning a few of Randy and Zakks stuff with Ozzy. So challenging but amazing once u get it
As always awesome stuff Carl!

by far one of the best on youtube! i can successfully say that my calluses are coming back and ive mastered this video, onto the next three!

Excellent
Thank you.

I was able to learn this within 20 minutes
Ye this song was long
Of course you were
OK why go to the D "basic" chord when every other original source show the 5-7 A bar chord it the same note for sure.
Nice lesson.....thanks
Randy Rhoads begs to differ... he had one in the Quiet Riot days.

great lesson btw lol
Is this drop d tuning
E standard
👍☝👍☝👍☝👍
the solo is pretty hard but verse and chorus is pretty much chords excluding the little licks
The solos are impossibly hard. The rest is impossibly easy.,
The only thing I don’t like about your lessons, tell people what key the song is in, and explain it
Telecaster for metal in Slipknot - yes, just yes.
Never new its was Bascially d chords randy made them sound diff.
nope F major, D for minor / A phrygian
That starting chord just doesn't sound right to me, am I the only one who thinks that? Idk what it should be but the d minor sounds off
