Are there? No, not in the USA...besides the Nissan Versa.....I wish we got the Suzuki Swift or the VW Polo instead of the Nissan Versa as our only small affordable car choice in the USA.....Fiat and Mini models are way too expensive in the U.S.
There's nothing affordable here, it's a 20K Euro mini hatchback. Cars like these were 10K several years ago. A fully kitted out previous gen Duster with 4x4 costed the same brand new.

I own car but you seem to have the steering wheel on wrong side. You must speak to Suzuki about that. The car is slow but actually acceleration is not that bad as the battery kicks in. I am not so tall so leg room is fine. We don't have unlimited speed on motorway so 70 mph should be fine. I haven't really driven it on a motorway journey so can't comment. The cross traffic warning is very useful. It has plenty of safety kit and the gear shift is very slick. But probably needs 20bhp more. But it's ok for city traffic. It does handle very nicely at speed and it's like a laser beam handling wise and you can put it exactly where you want it. Boot space is ok as long as you don't carry over sized items on the regular. The 1.4 turbo boosterjet engine would be a very good addition. It's better than a Pican'tgo and it can come with a 7 year warranty in UK plus Suzuki reliability and a lot of kit like cruise control and air con so it's not a bad time. It's the overall package which makes the car. And like all small cars, it's compromised but as long as you accept the lack of inches then it's fine.

If the car was significantly cheaper it would make sense. But being so small and impractical, cheap materials, weak engine. What car makes 83 hp? Thats gotta be illegal. I know its not but dang. This car is a joke. Maybe as a used car it makes sense. Certainly not new.
I think it depends on the buyer. For people who rarely go on the motorway, the low horsepower is probably fine, especially with the torque boost from the mild hybrid system. It also seems pretty practical to me, and has acceptable amount of trunk space especially with a rear seat folded. It's just meant to be a small and cheap car, similar to my 2013 Fiat 500. I don't expect it to have amazing acceleration, I just expect it to be compact and economical. With the rear seats folded it actually has good cargo space, enough room for 12 large bags of potting soil. This Suzuki is probably even more spacious. I don't think it should be illegal to have a car with a 12 second 0-100 kph time. I drove an 8th generation Honda Civic which was about the same, and although it needed some wringing out I never felt in danger.
Had the previous Suzuki swift sport (mild hybrid) 2022 model. It was so much fun. Especially in corners I could overtake a c63amg, on the straight we was gone doh😅
What have you meant in mentioning the "energy regeneration into the battary" (17:10) by the Mild-hybrid battery? Energy (from braking) for assisting the engine with mument in low RPM, or, energy for some of the car systems? By the way, I thought I am the only one who incounteres such a wierd persona from behind :) Simple and beneficial review in my opinion, especially in the functional side, which starts from important to less as the video goes👌🏼
What was fun was to see a manual gear shift. I have grown up with manual but have not had one for more than a decade. At about €20k this is good value. Apart from manual shift I like the blast from the past of the simple rev counter and speedo which are so much clearer and obvious than many premium displays of stuff I do not need. I do not mind the tacky bits in a car at this price and think Suzuki have made a good judgement on what to let us have for the price. Do I want one; no. But this is where new car development ought to be concentrated, or how how produce modern low cost cars.
Excellent city car for the price, super economical, excellent reliability. Interior quality has taken over in car sales even though reliability is rubbish.vw,Merc,Audi gone down the toilet. Anyhow, one of the best review channels.
the armrest is the stupidest thing in a modern car. He's shackling! It is impossible to sit in a car like in a movie theater, because the distance to the armrest on the door is different, its shape is different. And you don't need to. Just put your hands on the side of the seat.
Perfect, an honest, decent car. Any more options than these is just an extra, we really don’t need anything above these. Waiting for the manual Sport version
only one question i have, can it handle its rev from 120kmh at gear 5, because the current 1.2l swift, does not, it ranging over 3000rpm when you get to 120kmh
Ok but don't people in Germany move over to "slower" lane and let the car behind them pass them ? i thought this was a normal thing. And you only move over to slower lane if it's safe...you are not moving over if you are passing and there's 5 cars in row on "slower" lane. You pass them and then you move over and the car behind you can pass you. Do you get what I'm saying ? Again I thought this was given knowledge and everyone does it. You don't drive in a fast lane if you are not passing other cars.
I have the « previous » one. Same buttons, steering wheel, etc… Basic car, basic comfort with the rigid rear beam and minimal soundproofing., but it was cheap😊 It WAS cheap. Now not so much now,😮
This car should be 12k, maybe 15k fully loaded and not more. A Renault Clio starts at around 16-17 000. Even if you factor in the supposed Japanese reliability, there is no competition, the French car is far superior. It seems the Japanese manufacturers have lost their competitive edge. They never advanced the comfort, the driving dynamics or the rust proofing and the gap in reliability has been largely closed. The pricing is not competitive for what are very basic, borderline outdated cars. Apart from Toyota, most other brands have reduced their lineup to just a handful of models and without a major change, a lot of those manufacturers will be forced to leave the European market for good.
I noticed the bullying on the Autobahn once when i was in a rented Polo. Not pleasant at all. Its the same in Britain. I notice i get bullied a lot more in my wifes Honda than in my Volvo.
Great, was waiting for this review! Thomas, do you think you'll have the chance to review the Dacia Sandero in the future, as I feel like it's a close competitor to this car? It's a shame you don't have a review of that car. It's not exactly new, as it's been around for a while, but now the my24 is out with new safety systems and with the new journey trim, I think that would be an interesting choice.
The joy you both had while accelerating was priceless.😁😁 Personaly I don't need big cars, sport cars etc. I do like supermini class hatch cars but I miss 4cyl 1.2-1.4l engine cars having decent figures. But those times are gone. Very funny review.👍
We're definitely missing them right now, but there's some cars from the 2010s that fit the bill! Toyota/Scion iM, Fiat 500, Kia Rio, Toyota Yaris (including the rebadged Mazda2), Chevy Sonic, Chevy Bolt, Nissan Versa Note, Honda Fit, etc. If a sedan form factor is acceptable, the Nissan Versa sedan is available new with pretty good styling and features. It's about US$22k for the fully loaded CVT model with destination fee (or $18k if base+MT).
This seems really slow. I'm in australia, and my 2nd car is a 88kw honda jazz....i get bullied all the time cos its a little slow getting to motorway speeds or even in the city as the CVT isnt that great for fast takeoffs. The swift seems more of the same...just not enough power (65kw/ton)
I think another reason is that it's easier for them to detect burnt out turn signals with incandescent bulbs. There's a larger difference in current draw. And they don't have to worry about good thermal management because when the turn signals burn out, it's the responsibility of the owner to replace them. A good example of poor LED thermal management is the 7.5 generation USDM Honda Accord (also called the 4.5 generation Honda Inspire). It added LED taillights with little thermal management, so the diodes burned out pretty quickly.
It reminded me of everything like the Japanese mini cooper. Dear tester, your video is nice. Unfortunately, there is an unmitigated evil spirit on the streets when you are seen driving a small car. The way of driving expresses the man who he really is even when he is on foot. It's the same man.
Rather ugly I would say in video and pictures, not so much on real life. Certainly a good value reliable and economic car, with average comfort and good security features, but no luxury present at all.
Great, detailed review. You’ll probably be surprised to know that this is among the most popular cars in India. This one that you are driving was also probably built there.
I have the 2013 model that I bought from new. A couple of times almost sold it but always ended up keeping it. Love the design the fun driving and the easy maneuvering in the city. Has been 11 years 130,000 kms and still works wonderful. Some interior squeak and rattle but overall no complaints. This generation still use 1400cc K14B and traditional 4speed auto that works beautifully. Heard that in my country this newest generation apart from 3-cyl 1.2 liter will have also AMT (automated manual transmission).
Once, Swift was a very cool, very driving oriented car, very popular in grassroots motorsports. Today, it is a very bland, very boring B segment car that desperately wants to be a C segment car. Another example how's car industry going to shit.
Swift and a sport are two words not meant in the same sentence! Yea.. they were sh!t boxes to put it mildly.. previous generation (16-23) was the best one, period. This newer one, seems more like a facelift than a completely new car to me. But at least it should be reliable.
This is meant to be an efficient city car, not a sports car. If you want a small and affordable sports car you should get a Toyota 86 or Mazda MX-5 Miata.
@@yissibiiyteWhat about sales tax? That's 22% in Germany from what I recall. Also I have no idea which country you're in, but there's a chance Swifts in your market are manufactured in Thailand or India whereas EU models are made in Japan which would mean higher labour costs to build them. Probably higher transport costs too. It all adds up.
I wish we had this car in Canada. Unfortunately here, everyone loves being in debt and rent (lease to make them feel better) SUVs worth more than they make per year.
I loved my 2006 Swift 1.3 92HP. It was really fun to drive. I think it was a much better base engine than the new 1.2. I like that the boot is bigger, it was definitely too small on the old one. Don't like the new design anymore. Shame that Suzuki is not able to design good looking cars anymore.
It's a horrible looking car and at least in my country, it's absurdely priced. I can get a well specced Fabia for the same money, with much bigger boot, legroom, much better seats, ride quality, performance. It makes absolutely no sense!!!
Dear Thomas! Not hood - but bonnet! Not aluminum - but aluminium:) Not trunk - but boot / luggage/ cargo space, please 🥺 But in other cases your English is 10/10. Thanks for your work.
@@autogefuehl I would say that is AE variety (especially U.S.) and Standard English. AutoGefuehl is a channel with global auditory, not only for guys from Colorado or Alaska. Every country does have its own unique features, like Australian "utes" (pick ups) or American "trunks" (boots). But in international English it is more convenient and frankly... more correct to use standard English ("BBC English") words and spelling. It seams to me that it is more correct to use standard German in all German-speaking countries (DE, AT, CH, LU), when it comes to journalist work or other official / semi-official cases, no matter of regional specific and features. But it is just my personal opinion :) p.s. I'm from Ukraine.

Such a shame about the sport model being discontinued. The affordable hot hatch is officially dead.

Finally a proper Thomas blue car. 😄 I used to have a Ford Focus (2019 my) in this colour...I loved it.
I have the « previous » one. Same buttons, steering wheel, etc…
Basic car, basic comfort with the rigid rear beam and minimal soundproofing., but it was cheap😊
It WAS cheap. Now not so much now,😮
Germany prices are so low.... The car in the Netherlands is 5.500€ more expensive thanks to the Netherlands taxes on taxes on taxes ...🥴
How much it is in there?
I just checked - €21,695 lowest spec model without options 😂
Thanks 🙏 maybe yes
@@autogefuehl Great, hopefully it will be possible, thanks!
The joy you both had while accelerating was priceless.😁😁
Personaly I don't need big cars, sport cars etc. I do like supermini class hatch cars but I miss 4cyl 1.2-1.4l engine cars having decent figures.
But those times are gone.
Very funny review.👍
👍😎
I'm very dissapointed that there wont be a z engine series swift sport, what is Suzuki thinking?
I wish we got cars like this in the US.
You do. You have Mitsubishi Mirage.
Excellent Review - windnoise, acceleration which other channels do not do - but No thnaks - will stick to German VW cars.
Appreciated keep tuning in!
Dear Japanese manufacturers, LED technology exists since 20 plus years 😂
I think another reason is that it's easier for them to detect burnt out turn signals with incandescent bulbs.
RIP Swift Sport
Very practical, that can get you to point A to point B destination is all you need anyway. If only people were practical.
Ditch the ugly infotainment and im sold
Suzuki swift sports 🎉🎉🎉😂😂
Hate this non-shark antenna
The only thing I don't like about it - is the Awful new bonnet/hood line. It looks like the car has a Unibrow/monobrow.
It reminded me of everything like the Japanese mini cooper. Dear tester, your video is nice. Unfortunately, there is an unmitigated evil spirit on the streets when you are seen driving a small car. The way of driving expresses the man who he really is even when he is on foot. It's the same man.
And now you see where Mini got its new design from 🤣
It looks like they literally copied the ford puma or jaguar e-pace
The front looks worse than the previous gen. Maybe it'll grow on me.
Rather ugly I would say in video and pictures, not so much on real life. Certainly a good value reliable and economic car, with average comfort and good security features, but no luxury present at all.
the true "folks car", love it
Thomas blue edition 😁
Great, detailed review. You’ll probably be surprised to know that this is among the most popular cars in India. This one that you are driving was also probably built there.
Yes thats why I did this video as special service for our fans from India! Is it sold under Maruti or Suzuki in India?
@@autogefuehlThe brand is more colloquially called Maruti in India though it is now 100% owned by Suzuki.
Your Indian fans must be happy!
@autogefuehl In India it's called Maruti Suzuki Swift and sells anything around 12k to 19k each month
I think EU market swifts are made in Japan.
@@autogefuehlactually it's called maruti suzuki due to collab between the two in 1980s to manufacture cars in India
By far the ugliest swift released. They are definitely looking like granny cars now.
That Mercedes looked like a W126 to me.
What about ride comfort?
Sadly, we don't get this cute little car here in the USA.
Once, Swift was a very cool, very driving oriented car, very popular in grassroots motorsports. Today, it is a very bland, very boring B segment car that desperately wants to be a C segment car.
Another example how's car industry going to shit.
Still better than anything in the category we get in the USA....also, I would love to be able to get the VW Polo in the USA.
I had a 1999 swift and it was a total shit box. I'd have this modern one over it any day of the week.
Love it. Simple and a manual ❤❤❤
You should try driving in New Jersey.
I have the 2019 SZ5 Swift and won't upgrade to this one as Suzuki have somehow lost 30HP! That's a pretty significant downgrade :/
Somehow? They removed the turbo, that's how it lost power. Not only it's down on power, it went drastically up in price.
Perfect car doesn't exist...
With a $5 antenna.
Response to crazy MINI driver HILARIOUS!
i want one so bad 😢
Great presentation as usual.
In UK we have tail gaiters as well its not just your country.
In my country the Swift starts at just under 10k, not sure why it's nearly double the price in Europe
Taxes.
More safety equipment, for example
@@magnuspersson1433 not true, safety specs are identical
@@AWMJoeyjoejoe my country's car import tax is higher than Germany's, yet the car is still half the price.
A full electric version would be exiting.
I wish we had this car in Canada. Unfortunately here, everyone loves being in debt and rent (lease to make them feel better) SUVs worth more than they make per year.
Nice review. Btw, the Mercedes looked like a w123 coupé.
★★★ star NCAP is unacceptable in 2024.
I have to agree. Same to Dacia Duster
Anyone else getting 2005 Proton Savvy vibes????!
Very nice
Nice video. Thanks
Cheers!
Is the back window can go all the way down?
為亞洲速限設計的小車車
Nice little car it does what it says on the tin , great review 👍🏻
Wish you tested all autonomous systems.
Nice to see you having a laugh with your lovely partner!
I always thought it was his daughter.
老師,您影片的字幕能不能往下移一點,都會檔到車的細節,謝謝您!
把英文學好不用看字幕也是個好方法唷~
great review!
i want this car
Why is the hood gap so big??
4 months ago at the premier you said that it is due to the pre production car. Now we have the final product and the hood gap is still huge 😮
16:48 that was a W123, the E Class 😀
👌
I loved my 2006 Swift 1.3 92HP. It was really fun to drive. I think it was a much better base engine than the new 1.2. I like that the boot is bigger, it was definitely too small on the old one. Don't like the new design anymore. Shame that Suzuki is not able to design good looking cars anymore.
Seems like a very nice vehicle for the the price.
What? It costs more than a Kia Ceed with a 1.0 turbo engine. It's overpriced!
It looks nice, how far can it go on a full charge.
It's a mild hybrid. No charging as the engine charges it.
It's a horrible looking car and at least in my country, it's absurdely priced. I can get a well specced Fabia for the same money, with much bigger boot, legroom, much better seats, ride quality, performance. It makes absolutely no sense!!!
I like it. Small and useful. I'll buy one as a city runaround, and be inconspicuous.
Love from India
7-8 mm panel gaps.
Dear Thomas!
Not hood - but bonnet!
Not aluminum - but aluminium:)
Not trunk - but boot / luggage/ cargo space, please 🥺
But in other cases your English is 10/10. Thanks for your work.
Hehe thats AE vs BE 😎 thats why descriptions say boot and trunk
Ugly design. Maruti plastics.
