I’m glad to see manufacturers, including Maruti, improving crash safety. Let’s hope they can manage this without losing the essence of their vehicles, creating even better cars for us. Great content as always! Wish list: Seeing Shumi do a car review would be nothing short of brutal-imagine him tearing into the handling, cornering, and throttle response like he would a two-wheeler.
The swift sport discussion at the end reminded me of Jeremy Clarkson making fun of F430 Scuderia. Also, I’m curious as to why Maruti didn’t add the 1 litre Boosterjet engine to this car and give us a Sort-of-Swift? If I’m not wrong the fronx and the old Baleno RS had that engine. And my rating for the summary would be a 10/10.
I had a 3rd generation Swift and it was such a joy to drive. When I looked for an upgrade the only other NA engine that came similar to the character of K12 is Honda's 1.5 i-VTEC and I ended up buying the Elevate. K12 was such a gem of an engine. Now Swift needs the 1.0L Boosterjet engine from Fronx. Sell it as Swift RS. It will be an instant hit.
Thank goodness I got a 4-cylinder WagonR before they discontinued that engine! The 3-cylinder naturally aspirated engine of new Swift feels like a downgrade. Maruti knows Indians will buy anything if it's affordable and offers good mileage, but they're ignoring the enthusiasts. I wish we had the Swift Sport 1.4 turbo 4-cylinder mild hybrid here. Indians deserve better! 😅
This is a world debut engine not a india specific one, z series engine replaced k series in 2024 starting in all European countries and Japan also, only difference is its comes with mild hybrid and cvt gearbox.
@@babiraj6155 world (except india) spec has mild hybrid tech and cvt as you said. this is not the same world debuted engine.. its a tear down version for India

I own a older generation Swift and two of my friends own Baleno. Having driven both for city commutes as well as 1000+ kms tours i do find Baleno to be a better package overall. I'm on the taller side and my Swift feels a little cramped unlike the Baleno which is ridiculously spacious, even the Boot is just way better in Baleno. Look wise i find Toyota's version of Baleno (Glanza) to be better looking though.
Two enthusiastic gentleman talking about core subject. No promotion no wiered camera angles no music no drama. I mean Woww it's a bless today these yt channel speak out truth, it's hard to find.Good luck guys 👍
A little late to the video but i just wanted to say that i used to have the second gen swift with the 1.2l k series diesel engine. Now that I don't the car anymore (my uncle has it) i still yearn to drive it sometimes, simply because it had such a wonderful character to it. It was in no way a refined feeling engine but it was lovely to drive around and handled pretty well. Now I'm afraid people will miss out on stuff that is better for them, and be given something, in my opinion, inferior to what we had
Best part about this is looking at Shumi Tryi ng to picture the CAR. When they discus bikes he has a special shine in his eyes. here I can see him being the "least interested but happy to be a part of the conversation guy" Specially around 13:25 . Not complaining just stating my observation..
26:12 Not just Ciaz, Ignis hasn't got any update from many years (maybe from its launch in India). If Maruti bring some quality updates, Ignis will beat the market. Don't know what are maruti is thinking, they should ride the micro/compact SUV-franzy market of India now (otherwise never).
kizashi was a flop all over the world. not just india. for us its a superb car but we have have great cars at the time of kizashhi in india almost for the same price(accord, camry, sonata, ) in early 2000s.
When Karthik mentioned the " the question " somehow my brain already had the question , weight sensors. It's amazing how the thought processes have been imbued into my psyche. Maybe because I generally think on the same lines , or maybe because this movement about movement is really a movement ( hope Shumi really picks it up). WE have a Gen one swift in the family and it's one of my favorite cars. Having driven a lot of better and fairly new cars , the only car that still puts a smile on my face all the while I'm driving it is the gen one Swift. Somehow there's nothing quite like it. It is what the third gen is to Karthik I guess. It's the way the car makes me feel connected and confident on the road , increasing my sense of safety naturally. I even took it on a fairly long road trip for almost a two decade car. Also a three cylinder , we are really in the end game , aren't we. Incidentally , the new series is named the Z series. ( the end of the alphabet , maybe we are really in the end game ) ( hope Shumi picks this up as well , HaHa). I love love the passion that goes on in each of your videos. Always makes me feel a part of the conversation. Love and respect to you.
I missed the community post yesterday. Today is my birthday, and when I opened RUclips, your video was on the top of the timeline, what a start to my day!!!
This might be too late to get a response from anybody. But still worth a try. Ok here we go Why have we not got a mention about the seat being so low for all the variants except zxi+??(Only This has adjustable option) I went into the showroom with all the nice words from this episode and then shoop... I'm staring at the steering wheel and nothing beyond ! Im 5'6" btw and I'm pulling myself up and craning just to look beyond the bumper😢 Or am I the only one with this opinion? Any short guys out there? Open up! Its a safe space🙃 All this said...you two are my favourite people to listen to now. Thanks for becoming the new voices in my head for quite a long time in the future 😂
Karthik can you please help me to choose between IGNIS Delta and Swift LXI variant . Both have very similar pricing . Which one of them is a better option? And what's the milage of your ignis?
Hi.. first of all thank you for this format of videos.. it is refreshing with the white background and lighter colors.. While you were referring to Swift not getting the battery-powered hybrid engine anytime recently.. why are you not referring dezire... It is used by a lot of taxi drivers and they could do really well with a car that can have a good boot space and really really good fuel efficiency.. I agree that Swift cannot have a hybrid due to cost and another point I believe is the small boot space.. I don't believe it will be introduced with Ciaz.. because they have moved away from that sedan and like you mentioned, there is no update for the car for ages now.. Why do you think it will come with brezza.. it had mild hybrid tech.. they moved away from that and increased the price which doesn't get justified now.. why do you think they will reintroduce hybrid systems with brezza?
Because the Brezza is now half way through its life cycle. And, the strong hybrid would be a diesel alternative. And that has been missing in Brezza’s line up.
Zen Classique and Zen Estillo was when Maruti got too adventourous 😅 not sure why Zen plate was always such a guinea pig for Maruti...it kinda deserves a episode on its own.
There is an observation i saw in a video which basically said that this new swift engine has more plastic than the previous ones. would it make a difference?
I've seen many partnered firms that eventually ended up with the team splitting up. I love this channel. Please make sure that you people don't fall into that trap. Keep this posted as a mantra in your office😅.
There was a time when people cared about a music system more than ABS and airbags. Nice to see more safety features as standard these days. Still driving the gen 1 Swift and I love it to bits
Thank you for the detailed review of the car. We appreciate the comprehensive information on the exterior, interior, and powertrain. However, we are missing crucial details about the underside of the car, where cost-cutting measures are often implemented. Could you please put the car on a lift and provide insights on the following: > How easy or difficult it is to service or access various components. (One bad example: Kwid's removal of silencer requires removal of rear suspension components.) > The level of protection the underside has against Indian weather conditions. > The quality of insulation from underneath the car. > Materials used in critical components such as lower control arms and suspension components This information will greatly enhance our understanding of the car's overall quality and reliability. Thank you!
Heyy guys, i have a question to Karthikeya, what about AMT gearbox?? How was it? Was it like the previous generation?? Or is it quicker now?? I have driven older santro, swift, celerio, etc. AMTs. They were really slow in shifting gears. And you have to really plan your overtakes in them.. so i was against AMTs but was using because AMT cars are cheap to rent. Like Karthikeya said they had head nod feature. But just 2 days back I rented and drove new brezza AMT 2024 model for 300km in a day... From mumbai to matheran to kasara to mumbai. And it's AMT really blew my mind. It was so quick that mostly I did not notice the gearshifts and their pedal shifters were amazing too without going in manual mode I can just shift down gear for like few seconds to overtake and it will again go back to auto mode. Disclaimer in my question: I am not a experienced car driver. My complete life car driving is around 5000km. I have never driven any other automatic so no idea how fast a DCT is? So, AMT is it like the new brezza or still a slower one.???
@@cock54 yes you are correct. It was torque converter.. I thought it was AMT as most suzuki cars are AMT. Later I found out that it was not an AMT. Gear shift was smooth, fast. But overall car pickup is low. After 75-80kmph, car was taking its own time to reach 110kmph. I was full throttle still. It's a chill car..
Thank you for your objective review and perfect summary! The Swift was my dream car for the past 2 decades. However, then I imagined that by 2020s, the new gen Swift should be making at least 100 bhp and not in the low 80s. Also proportionately sportier as well, not just "sporty enough". Am I wrong in not finding it desirable anymore?
Shumi's take on the nation driving towards aspiration and why Maruti wont be able to grab it is just brilliant. These are the talks every enthusiasts have!! Love your work and efforts!!
Owned a 2nd gen SWIFT 1.2 l engine. Somehow buying it was never about the design so I completely agree that it’s just a solid little do-it-all car, that has sort of held its ground over the years. It works ( as u called in podcast for masses..Activa / swift don't change don't get into mics / member only stuff) .. problem in india is aspirations we all have... Opportunity is so less.. !! Just let us know u guys are so cool but after decades of experience now u get opportunity which h must be. Enjoying... After decades... 3 ) how u know u enjoy life and love life and live life ?? U have sense of humor PPL don't get it... U did a awesome job... When u said K stands for .... !! This is for life time.. ! That is humour. Maruti k series will be known for that..! Awesome guys.. let us know in 10 laks which car should I buy.. !!
I didn't really understand how the seat belt warnings are working without the load sensors..? You mentioned when there "was" someone in the seat but they get out, THEN the chimes/warning happens? But how would it know if someone got out?
They put on the seatbelt when they get in, and take it off when they get off Next time they sit the seatbelt beeps. It's dumb but cheaper to implement than load sensors.
Hi. 3rd gen Swift owner here. Will the suspension upgrade improve the backseat comfort for passengers.?because current one is bumpy on back. If I'm changing the suspension what are the things I need to purchase. And can it be done at authorized service centre's? Thank you.
The gen 1 swift design reminded me of the nissan 350z, especially the front. Your observations on aftermarket tail lamp design, awsome..hats off to that. I think suzuki will be targeting the market with brezza hybrid.
Although I disagree with Shumi's assessment of the Honda H'ness CB350, I want to express my appreciation for conducting this podcast in English. This choice makes the information a lot more accessible to a significant portion of South India, where most people do not understand or speak Hindi. Thank you for recognizing and respecting the diversity and secular nature of our country, indirectly.
Hey Motorinc I saw that their was this episode uploaded on Spotify but then it was taken down. Was that a mistake? I had watched half of that and I was dejected when it was taken down because I was in the flow.
There's surely something about swift that makes one smile. It may not be very quick but certain basic things executed to perfection are taken for granted. Great seats, great air-conditioning, handling, suspension!!
I feel that this version of the Swift - like all previous editions - is bound to be a winner. The logic is Irresistible! Only small families buy the swift and therefore the car is big enough. Because the swift is small, its quick enough in the city and maruiti does good handling packages that means good enough on the highways as well! It returns great mileage - so easy on the pocket. When you finally think of buying your next car, the swift gets you good resale. You thus end the "Swift" phase of your life with fond memories! Most folks dont buy a second swift so the inter generational problems are problems for ... reviewers only? I thoroughly enjoyed my "Swift" phase 15 odd years ago and i am sure the next batch of gen 4 swift owners would as well!
@@motorinc The design for sure! When I bought the swift, there was nothing that looked like it in the market - so also today. The Baleno, to my eyes, looks like an unassuming family hatch and in your late 20's and early 30's, distinctive is way better than unassuming!
It's too early for that, @neosahft. We'll be testing the Swifts soon and at that point we'll have more detailed information on variants and powertrain options
You guys speak from the heart unlike other reviewers on the platform. That makes it my first choice to check MotorInc for your opinion and feedback on all automobile topics. Anyhow it doesn't feel like a 51 mins video, cheers for keeping the talk alive with all the jokes from Shumi throughout the video.
Hello Team MotoInc.. Currently I'm using 2017 Dzire Vxi covering 45,000kms.. My questions is should I upgrade to upcoming new Dzire in 2024 with new Z-Series engine ? Is it worth?
Didn't the previous gen swift had really bad steering that won't even return back to the Centre? Or did they update it during the life cycle? If so, when? And did that then make it even more better to drive than second gen swift? Second, don't you think 6 airbags as std on such a small car shouldn't be standard? It would make the car more affordable. People who want it can always go for higher variants.
As you talked about Ciaz I feel the same goes a bit for IGNIS too…why aren’t they planning to bring in an update to it? Assuming IGNIS to me is more practical and VFM compared to Swift !
Great Video once again! I have one question: When you say 1st gear 45 kmph, I assume the engine is going to make a lot of noise. And the engine speed will obviously be less than the red line. So is it okay to do this? Also does the spec of the engine like 90 PS at 6,500 RPM or whatever of a car , is applied to all gears? Should I be changing the gears when the instrument console recommends changing the gear or am I good to go as long as I don't touch the red line? Thanks!
The fact that Suzuki chose the swift as the first car to get the new engine represents Suzuki's belief in their new engine and the ways it can be evolved with time..I won't be surprised if the swift, 2 years from now when it will be due for a minor refresh, would also be the first to come with the hybrid Z-series
Hey, great video as always. I am very curious about ur team that puts together ur videos, the camera work etc. will it be possible to show around ur work place and introduce to team even in segments (like one person in an episode) if possible...
Maybe the reason they did the software gimmick for seat belt chimes is the airbags. Afaik, airbags deploy only when seatbelts are buckled, so any random crash would've caused the rear airbags to deploy even when it's empty.
Suspension is tuned as per the weight and size of the car (weight distribution, height, etc). In this case we discussed it as the Swift size , thr mounting points will be the same as the old car. There is a company called ARC that has suspension upgrades for the 500. You can check those out. Were havent tried them. But, their suspension upgrades for the That are well known and did help improve comfort.
one correction though , as kartikeya sir was discussing about how the new swift is just a facelift and he compared it with the baleno and brezza facelifts but in my opinion the brezza got drastic design changes ....as it got a completely different makeover which made it look strikingly different than previous versions and more attractive & modern to look at!
Opinions certainly should differ @HellDiver_02. To Kartikeya, that didn't feel like enough of a change because apart from the exterior changes, the Brezza still remains the same for the most part.
My current econobox is 4 years old. I'm in an income bracket where I can afford to buy a better car. But looking at the taxes, I think I'm going to hang on to mine for 5-6 more years.
Hi motorinc team, this is the first time I am very confused with motorinc impression. What I understood from the video is the car is very good to the point that it is not fun to drive. Also is there a car in this segment which is versatile(in terms of practicality)and fun to drive ?
Actually this is first time the indian suzuki swift gets the same built quality as the international markets ,which do get a decent adult occupat protection. Other than the lack of 4 extra airbags and lane assign and stuff , for the cheapest selling swift in the world ,its actual good value for money !
am intrigued about the differences between the ones sold here and the ones in Japan. It looks more well-built in Japan be it paint quality and the way it rides or the tuning and hopefully not much in components.

Thanks for the recommendation! It’s a popular one!
Thanks Milind! The sort of sporty Swift would just be quicker. Not really fun and sporty Swift.
Hullo! Have you driven the 1L Boosterjet?
@@motorinc Yes. I have driven it in the Fronx. I did consider Fronx as my next car. But I felt it was overpriced for the price.
We want better suspension for a sportier feel. Ty empower can be stage 2.

TTP! Thanks again for the update. And fosho the Baleno is the more complete car. The older Swift was more fun though.

Biught new 3rd gen Swift in October 2023 and I am glad that I didn't wait for 4th gen.
Driving the 3rd gen Swift is fun and sporty.
Shumi says that being part of the conversation works for him @thecrazysharma.😅
@editors, karthikeya was talking about the old swift's look during the start of video but the photos of new Swift has been incorporated over there
The focus is on the new car and introducing images of other vehicles can be confusing so we avoid it.
@@motorinc I feel it was better to post nothing instead of confusing viewers with the photos of the new one at least from a contextual perspective
10:08 well actually suzuki did do a performance car ages ago - kizashi. But that flopped and they went back to mass market cars.
also the baleno RS
kizashi was a flop all over the world. not just india. for us its a superb car but we have have great cars at the time of kizashhi in india almost for the same price(accord, camry, sonata, ) in early 2000s.
Kizashi flopped because suzuki does not know how to build good performance car....they only know how to build NA engines...
Porsche 911 gt3 rs has a naturally aspirated engine 🤷♂️

Hi.. first of all thank you for this format of videos.. it is refreshing with the white background and lighter colors..
Is this engine amt combination better than the old four cylinder amt combination?
Zen Classique and Zen Estillo was when Maruti got too adventourous 😅 not sure why Zen plate was always such a guinea pig for Maruti...it kinda deserves a episode on its own.

Thank you for the detailed review of the car. We appreciate the comprehensive information on the exterior, interior, and powertrain. However, we are missing crucial details about the underside of the car, where cost-cutting measures are often implemented.
Could you please put the car on a lift and provide insights on the following:
> How easy or difficult it is to service or access various components. (One bad example: Kwid's removal of silencer requires removal of rear suspension components.)
> The level of protection the underside has against Indian weather conditions.
> The quality of insulation from underneath the car.
> Materials used in critical components such as lower control arms and suspension components
This information will greatly enhance our understanding of the car's overall quality and reliability. Thank you!
30:35 Yeah, they will introduce a 2 cylinder engine with multiple hybrids to increase efficiency even more in upcoming years.
The new brezza is equipped with a torque converter though
@@cock54 yes you are correct. It was torque converter.. I thought it was AMT as most suzuki cars are AMT.
Later I found out that it was not an AMT.
Gear shift was smooth, fast. But overall car pickup is low. After 75-80kmph, car was taking its own time to reach 110kmph. I was full throttle still. It's a chill car..
@@nishantpratapsingh6628 yeah the new k15c engine in brezza is tuned for efficiency which is why it takes its own sweet time to gain speed

First of all, definitely the best podcast on RUclips IMO. Secondly, can you make a video on ciaz or rather old cars which still makes sense?
I didn't really understand how the seat belt warnings are working without the load sensors..? You mentioned when there "was" someone in the seat but they get out, THEN the chimes/warning happens? But how would it know if someone got out?
They put on the seatbelt when they get in, and take it off when they get off
Next time they sit the seatbelt beeps. It's dumb but cheaper to implement than load sensors.

Let us know please!
Winner, for sure.
But the question is - why wouldn’t you buy a Baleno instead.
@@motorinc The design for sure! When I bought the swift, there was nothing that looked like it in the market - so also today. The Baleno, to my eyes, looks like an unassuming family hatch and in your late 20's and early 30's, distinctive is way better than unassuming!

Hello Team MotoInc..
Currently I'm using 2017 Dzire Vxi covering 45,000kms.. My questions is should I upgrade to upcoming new Dzire in 2024 with new Z-Series engine ?
Is it worth?
Definitely not. Hold onto your dzire. When you are done with it step up to something better or different.
@@motorinc Thank You for your valuable help.. 😊
Agreed on all counts!
One point on the pricing. they increased the old swift price just before facelift. So overall increase is actually significant.

Great Video once again! I have one question:
When you say 1st gear 45 kmph, I assume the engine is going to make a lot of noise.
Thanks!
Ever since the new swift launched, was eagerly waiting for Karthikeyas take on this. Worth a wait
Thanks for waiting @aflahmt5497!
I love the way shumi referred to a sunroof as a hole in the roof.
At this point I started wondering whether the sunroof put a hole in the safety too.
It absolutely does @rithikrameshan8491. Hence Shumi calls it that.
Can something like what happened with Nokia happen with Maruti if they don't evolve?
The fact that Suzuki chose the swift as the first car to get the new engine represents Suzuki's belief in their new engine and the ways it can be evolved with time..I won't be surprised if the swift, 2 years from now when it will be due for a minor refresh, would also be the first to come with the hybrid Z-series
That’s about when it would make sense!
@@motorinc Still does, atleast for the time being, even without the hybrid..fuel efficiency claims are enough for now..
Interesting! Will enquire!
New Swift vs Ignis...what do you guys recommend?
Can you switch dampers from one car to another? It's off topic but if you can suggest it will be great. "Can you recommend any damper for xuv 500?"
@@motorinc thanks appreciate it
one correction though , as kartikeya sir was discussing about how the new swift is just a facelift and he compared it with the baleno and brezza facelifts but in my opinion the brezza got drastic design changes ....as it got a completely different makeover which made it look strikingly different than previous versions and more attractive & modern to look at!
Will the upcoming Dezire will house the same engine?
