Bernadette Banner has a video where she bought a dress online that they had used a picture of her hand-sewn dress (the photo was actually her wearing it and they just cut her head out!) and the dress she received was awful! Nothing like the one she'd created. It was enlightening to say the least.

I love thrift and consignment shops, and I don't care if anyone does know🤣. You can find really good stuff at places like that, sometimes even stuff that's completely unused. Antique stores are a great place to find furniture secondhand. Rare pieces cost an arm and a leg, but more common ones can be half the price of brand new furniture. I got a gorgeous chest of drawers for $270, a nightstand for $90, and a bed frame on its final markdown for $195. And it's all high quality. Plus I didn't have to put most of it together.

Most everything I have came from thrift stores. Especially my kitchen stuff. I got an electric pressure cooker for $10 a few months ago, not expecting much. Wow! I love that thing! I looked it up on Amazon, and it retails for over $150. It's big enough for a whole chicken and much easier to clean than my traditional pressure cookers.
I live near Palm Springs where a lot of movie industry people retire and live during the Winter. The thrift stores there get amazing things. I bought a Bob Mackie embroidered silk blouse for $3 that turned out to be actual couture. I laugh as I go out to feed my chickens while wearing what once was @ $2000 blouse.

From experience: Don’t get a tattoo while traveling. Go local. You could get an unsatisfactory tat that you can’t get refunded or fixed. You could also get an infection or an allergic reaction and have no access to a known hospital

    • @powerpuff_avenger
      @powerpuff_avenger 2 года назад +3

I can confirm. Got a tattoo in London and it was done really shitty. Luckily no infections or anything, but I had to pay a local artist to fix it. So I basically paid double, despite looking up the shop with the most and best reviews (they had hygiene certificates though, but that doesn't mean anything if you let the apprentice fuck up my upper arm).

@Bee OMG. Finally someone says it. Everyone blames the artists BUT doesn’t realize that the artist SHOWS you the damn stencil BEFORE putting it on your body! So how the hell can someone NOT know what they are getting? Even after putting the stencil on your body before tattooing it they will STILL ask you if you like where it’s at and other questions. If a tattoo artist refuses to show your the stencil before they put it on your body then say hell no to that and demand a refund. But it’s common practice that EVERY tattoo artist will show you the stencil and then show you the stencil on your body before actually doing the tattoo. It’s these people OWN fault. Don’t blame the artist.

What you got- the whole thing was decorated with cheap canned frosting ( in total, no fondant) and the cake was still warm( it melted the frosting) professional cake bakers make the cake portion the night or so before and freeze the cake before decorating the next day 😂

When getting a tattoo, ask some questions. How long have you been a tattoo artist? Do you have a portfolio, may I see your work? Tattoo artists are literal artists and will be happy to show off their work. Also note that all artists have their strong points and weak points, some specialize in certain types of tattoos, you don't go to a guy who does exclusively retro sailor tattoos for a Japanese sleeve for example. This is why looking at their portfolio helps. But most of all *YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR* Never try to bargain hunt on something that is art that takes them F-ing hours of work and years of honing skills. If you can't afford it either don't get it or save up and really appreciate it.

as someone who's covered about ~70% of their body with awesome tattoos + only 1 horrible tattoo, all i can say is do your research into the artists (lol a charlotte-ism) + DON'T BE CHEAP. don't make an artist do a style of tattoo they don't specialize in, if you want some delicate, small piece w thin lines, go to someone who specializes in that. getting a bad tattoo is actually hard if you go to good artists. a good artist won't do a tattoo they can't make great + they also won't copy another artist's work exactly. don't cheap out on something that's going on your body forever. it's just like charlotte's point about high quality clothing, it costs more upfront, but saves you more in the long run!

    • @ChickenOfAwesome

This! As a (non-tattoo) artist, it amazes me how many people don't realise that tattooing isn't a mechanical skill, its an art form and you don't ask Picasso to make something in the style of Damien Hirst, or tell Ai Weiwei "Okay, but can you do it for £10 cus thats all I've got?".
You are essentially commissioning an art piece thats going to live on your body forever - find the artist who does what you want, work with them and pay them properly and you'll get something that you can be so proud of.

  • @ashrose4979
    @ashrose4979 2 года назад +136

what I've seen with the tattoo fails more often is someone takes an image from a super high-end specialist and brings it to a less experienced artist and wants a copy. 1- don't get copies of other people's tattoos unless given permission. 2- they want high-end specialist work but don't want to pay what that costs so they end up with that. 3- you are usually watching someone put on the stencil and tattoo, why did you let them continue. you get what you pay for in tattoos. Yes, there are some artists who really suck and I feel bad for the people with that work. But i see so often people talking about what I wanted for a tattoo and the wanted tattoo is a very specific artists style and art and they want just anyone cheaper to do that work.

Talk to the artist, ask many questions and tell them what you are wanting to achieve in the way of look, colour and style. And for the love of all things jeebus stop wanting a copying of a picture you found on Google.

With tattoos you hugely get what you pay for:
    1. Always research the artist
    2. This is NOT the time to be cheap, price shop, look for discounts
    3. Visit the shop, look at the artists' book, ask if there are any canvases you may call, if you're that person
    4. Make certain they're health department inspected and licensed if applicable
There are so many very talented artists out there,it is art, seen tremendously beautiful tattoos, I have 2,nothing elaborate, placement counts for alot, an experienced, talented artist can help you through the entire process, placement, colors, subject matter, size, trust them
I'D NEVER GET WORK DONE THAT NEEDS A STERILE FIELD, INK, PIERCINGS, SURGERY DONE IN MEXICO,I LOVE MEXICO, LIVED THERE NUMEROUS TIMES, NOT ALWAYS THE SAME CLEANLINESS STANDARDS WE EXPECT.

Unfortunately, it took about 2 years for the burned spot to go away (and about 2 months for the blister to heal over). And! stay out of ANY body of water while it is healing (think infection and other yucky amoeba type thingys).

Something I've always been told with is ; if you can avoid it, don't wear tight bandages over burns, just wear loose fit clothes that are 100% cotton/linen. Your skin needs to breath as much as possible. It needs to dry. Then when the scarring process starts, hydrate.
Burned my chest with boiling hot water over a year ago, thankfully it isn't noicable anymore.

I think it was in grade 7 (we stayed at the same school until grade 13, thank you, Germany), and he wanted to make a finished pizza in the oven. Long story short, it didn't cross his mind that he had to remove the plastic first and possibly forget it in the oven until it smelled burned. I bought a replica 357 magnum lighter. It showed up unassembled! with a code to scan to get the directions to build it. First of all you are awesome Charlotte! I love watching your videos, they always brighten up my day. However I gotta be one of those people that have to put my two cents in. You should not be worried about getting a tattoo. A lot of the people who get bad tattoos are getting what they pay for. They try to get the best deal or have a friend do it on the cheap and you see the results. Tattoos are pieces of art and require experience artists to bring them to life, and just like any good artist they want to be paid for their work. So please don't let these videos turn you off to the idea of a tattoo. Ask someone with a nice tattoo who they went to, or go to the highest rate shop in your area. Look at the artist portfolios and find one that matches your style, and talk to them! Listen to their suggestions, they know what they are talking about. A tattoo is something with meaning you want to show to the world but it's also an experience you won't forget.

Then the artist has a very clear sketch/reference to draw on to achieve perfect match from what you wanted to what you get. I just got one done with this technique and it's really keeping it simple, easy, and looking good! :)

The common thing with the "What I wanted vs. What I got" is that each buyer wanted CHEAP - shopping only by price. For dresses, GO TO A STORE and get fitted, and SEE what your'e buying. Americans today want to pay so little that they're lured online site and sellers of low honesty. Don't expect perfection in cakes as every decorator is different, just like every artist on canvas is different! Stop basing your purchases on the LOWEST PRICE! This also true of different tattoo artists - it's NOT going to look like a perfect image if you buy based on CHEAP.

I never wanted a tattoo; husband and daughter love tattoos! I always said that I'd never get one because I couldn't think of anything I'd want permanently on my body. HOWEVER!! I did get a tattoo! On my 50th birthday! ( 7 years ago) after I watched the 2016 grammy awards performance by Lady gaga ( wasn't a fan until this) when she sang " till it happens to you " and those sexual assault survivors came on stage; i told my daughter that if there was a symbol for it, that's the only tattoo I'd have. Turns out that there was and I got it! My daughter did some research and found out that one of the survivors made a symbol for that. I added the word "unbreakable " and the green semicolon ( for mental health awareness) .

You got one that had meaning to you, so even minor flaws a judge might nit-pick mean nothing. Finest kind!
I had a similar first tattoo, in that I couldn't think of anything I wanted permanently. My kids all took steps to stop having kids of their own, so I figured I was good with Grandkids names. (I was wrong, but that is another story). I knew what I wanted it to mean, and researched an artist. Ended up with a gem who helped me work out the how to say it. I now have a sign post that is a tree with a direction sign for each with a few other subtle meanings woven in. Got it a bit over a decade ago, in my late 40's. Wouldn't give it up for anything.

@@lisabass7584 i apologize but I don't understand what your asking? Or maybe saying? Can you please be more specific ? A one worded reply leaves a lot of open interpretation. I'd like to answer any questions you may have

My Mum always said "Don't get a tattoo that you wouldn't want hanging on your living room wall for the rest of your life. Taking it to wherever you may live" It makes you stop and think. The only one I could think of hanging on my wall, wherever I live is "Home Sweet Home" or a sunrise. I currently have a large photo of the Brooklyn bridge and a print of Audrey Hepburn from Breakfast at Tiffany's.
I wouldn't like any of them as a tattoo.

@ 1:47, i fell in love with Charlotte's editor/their genius: I adore/d "Samurai Jack" (created by Genndy Tartakovsky) , and Aku -- the character in the clip -- was voiced by Mako (sleep softly) who was so invested in bringing out the comedic evil of Aku that he removed the bridgework (partial denture) that were his upper front teeth. There's your trivia for the day.

When it comes to tattoos, you really really *REALLY* have to do your research and be absolutely confident in the artist. It took me years and years before I found someone I liked and trusted to tattoo me.

Well made clothes in classic cuts and quality fabrics are a good investment. I have some pieces that are a decade old but still as stylish today as ever. The way you are dressed is usually the first impression most people get of you. Send the right message.

So, for the Spongebob popsicle, the eyes are typically gumballs.
And for the christmas tree, they need to spread the branches before attaching them to the tree itself, that was not an issue with not getting what they paid for, it was a matter of them not putting in the effort.

The "what I got" artificial tree they showed looks exactly like mine did when I bought a $50 one from Walmart. It isn't fair to judge it like that though since the branches still need to be positioned. I was shocked when I first bought mine since I grew up with real trees, but it does look better once you spread out out branches and decorate it. Also the "what I wanted" easily looked like a $100+ artificial tree. As like for the rest of it, you get what you pay for. If you are shopping for an artificial tree, look into how many 'tips' the tree has. The more tips it has=The fuller/bigger the branches will look and usually the cost is higher too.

That Xmas tree - it migth actualy be what he wanted - he didnt fluff it up!!
You need to open all the squished branches and give it a nice shape. It probably will not be as awesome as picture, but you can get way closer than this

As you stated for online shopping, when it comes to tattoo artist shopping you must also do the research and read the reviews. My first tattoo I did not, but was extremely lucky as it turned out gorgeous. My second tattoo I had seen the artist's work on several people's bodies before deciding he was the one. You can check out their portfolio on their website or Facebook page to see their work before you make an appointment.

4:22 you can make a Hulk like that with chocolate or candy melt, it takes los of time if you don't have a mold but it is edible.

As someone with tattoos, don't just get a random tat on holidays! If you want a good tattoo, find an artist you like, look at their portfolio, contact them, have an appointment to discuss the design, visit the shop to make sure they are properly hygienic. For a good tattoo from a good artist you need to be patient, sometimes the waiting time is months long but this is something that will sit on your body forever. I normally let my tattoo ideas brew for a couple of months while I follow the artist I like on Insta and once I realise I'm not going to get over wanting a piece done by that person I contact them :D

The nail art one cracked me up, because I've been in nails salons when people who brought in photos didn't get what they wanted. One of those times, the girl's picture was similar to the green nails is the vid, but the nails with less green has a kind of ivy design. The salon lady (SL) showed her samples of the greens they had, the customer just said, "which ever one will look like this." The SL said, "This photo looks professional with retouching and filters, so I can't say for sure, please pick the color you would like." The customer picked a color, and shockingly, even though the SL had done a pretty good job of replicating the ivy design, the green obviously looked different under the salon's fluorescent lights than the professional photo. The customer was crying that the color was different, and this old lady who had seen the whole thing said, " Honey, YOU picked out the color, stop whining to that nice little lady and get some real problems!"
