Hey, folks! So my camera ran out of recording space just as I was wrapping up my post-reaction comments. It wasn't enough to shoot an add-on once I realized, but just to finish the thought, I'd like to convey a MASSIVE thank-you to all the people who have enabled, expanded, and encouraged my a-ha deep-dive. I appreciate you all!
We appreciate you too Matt for everything you do for all us A-HA fans most reactors stop after take on me and you’ve kept going so thankyou so much for that. A-HA are so criminally underrated and unappreciated by many it should be illegal. Have a fantastic birthday 🎂🍰🍾🎉🎁 Take care 😘❤️🇳🇴❤️🏴🇺🇸🎄⛄️🥶
Thank YOU! I think I have been forgetting to thank you and haven't done that enough, but I guess you have an idea of how special your a-ha journey is to us. 🤗
You've reached that point in every a-ha fan's life when they surpass everything you thought you knew and loved about them and all you can do is hold your head in your hands and wonder how on earth they manage something that is beyond perfection! And on your birthday too, congratulations!! 😂
So well put. Although, I am pretty sure my head exploded more than held it in my hands. 😂Lots of loud curse words in amazement too. Like “Oh my $@>£^*# God! How is this possible! They just @&$*%^€ Rock!” I know some love to go on about Morten’s looks, but seriously, to me, this is when all three of them were absolutely hot! It has nothing to do with what they looked like. I also love this because they all just look kinda normal. Nobody’s dressed sexy or has fancy clothes. No GQ model haircuts and looking perfect. They all get EQUAL time with the camera. It’s not “Look at Morten, look at Morten!” It’s all three of them killing it and totally getting into it. Their real talents coming out. That is why they’re hot to me.🔥🔥🔥🔥💖
Happy Birthday Matt. I hope you have a great day 🎉🎁🎉🍾 Classic example of early A-HA. Thankyou for all the reactions that you do on A-HA your the only one who has covered the most A-HA tracks to date most give up after take on me. A-HA are so criminally unappreciated and underrated as a band it should be illegal. Happy Birthday 🎂🍰 Take care and I’ll catch you on the next one 😘❤️🇳🇴❤️🏴🇺🇸🎄⛄️🥶
Haha, there were so many mentions to "NRK" but no one thought that it was important to explain what that was. 😁 Well, now you know. There was no audience, indeed. That is why is is so different from other live recordings, too, like the one I keep mentioning and I hope you already have it too: Oslo, 1994 (Memorial Beach Deluxe version, disc 2 😉). No hurry, anyway, you still have a lot more to go through. So great that you decided to treat yourself on your birthday, I was wondering when you would begin with the NRK tracks but I never thought it would be this soon. ☺ I think I get what you say about the "studio version", I think my head worked more or less in the same way until 2011. I didn’t even enjoy hearing live versions, because my brain perceived those differences as "flaws", while the studio version was "perfection". I remember that feeling well. But when a-ha said "farewell" in 2010 and I thought there would be no more new a-ha music I started "devouring" everything I could find (mostly online) that I hadn't heard before, and that is when I found a myriad of live recordings (bootlegs) and began to appreciate them more and more. At some point, I "ditched" that sense of the studio version as the prototype, "the real thing" - on the contrary, the real thing is what they do on stage. 😁 And I learned to love all the different ways they played their songs over the years, so many different versions that I can't even say which one I prefer. I guess it's a mindset that comes with time, if you start listening to live performances. Or maybe I am wrong. 🙃 It's just my experience.
Happy birthday Matt🎂🎉 You have chosen a great and wonderful gift😁❤️🎶 The quality of Mortens voice in the NRK live Performances is as perfect as in the Album versions and he sings all the songs sitting, which makes singing more difficult due to compression of the diaphragm (had read that somewhere)
A little late to the party, but happy birthday, Matt! Usually I prefer the studio version of the various songs, but in this particular case I can't get this version out of my head. I can put this on repeat and listen to it over and over again - with the video of Morten and the band, of course. I think I can say I'm obsessed with this version, it gets under my skin. I saw this NRK concert when it was broadcast on TV in 1991. One of many golden a-ha moments with NRK. The first thing NRK aired on their main channel as we entered the new year a couple of days ago was the True North concert/film, and I had no idea it was coming, for once. Even though I have the concert on USB, it is special to see it together with the rest of the country. Fortunately, I was able to catch up on NRK's live broadcast on the Internet, and saw the concert more than once that night. Now it is available to us lucky northerners.
I am with you. It gets under my skin too. Oh man, to see this when it actually came out! ❤️ I would have been 17 at the time. I know if they played THIS in America to us teenagers at the time, they would have killed it! So many metal heads and hard rockers. I am sure they would have been blown away. Well, my fantasy anyways 😂
@@shelld1261 I was 19 when i saw them do this live. I had never seen them before and i was not ready. I was expecting a more soft album sound and this tour was not that. It blew my brains out and i loved it.
Happy birthday Matt! Thank you for these reaction videos with your own special format, sharing your thoughts before and after. Have a wonderful celebration ✨️🥳 Will continue this journey while you go through the albums, even I see some of the songs in a different way after your videos😃 This instrumental section is for me a very good tribute to their big influence, The Doors.
Thank you! I really appreciate that. And yes, now that you say, I can hear the Doors' influence in the instrumental jam section. Cheers for that insight!
Happy birthday Matt…I hope you have a great day! I hope you already know how much we appreciate you reviewing all a-ha material right from the start of their career…it’s a pleasure for us to watch your reactions and to realise how much you appreciate them as much as we do. This live version of Manhattan Skyline is the absolute best version…on that for once it’s guaranteed no a-ha fan will disagree! It was recorded and filmed live for a TV documentary type programme by Norway’s broadcasting corp. NRK, live in their studios. It’s interesting you say that knowing what is coming at some of the more dramatic parts of this performance never lessens the excitement or enjoyment of listening/watching (and rewatching because I’m referring to the video) time and time again…because it’s just magic! The whole suite of songs in this NRK recording session are of the same impeccable standard…breathtakingly good, just wait until you hear them all.
This here is why all three are so hot to me. 🔥🔥 I love that they aren’t dressed sexy and nobody has perfect model hair. The camera gives equal time to all three of them. It’s not “Look at Morten! Look at Morten!”. It’s just showing their actual talents. All three seriously getting into it and killing it. Waaay hotter than any kind of image they made with Morten. ❤
@@marjoriemcbride6557 Yes, me too. All that wasted time on Morten’s looks when the most amazing thing was their talent they should have focused on. All most people have to do is just listen and close their eyes to hear the magic.❤❤
Happy birthday Matt!🎈🥂😎 Glorious live version. There were no crowds, its a live jamming session from a studio at NRK - Norways official broadcaster. I cant recall how many songs they did but they definetly did Early Morning and East of the Sun west of the moon. Maybe I call your name as well.
A-happy birthday to you, Matt! 🥳 This is so funny: I woke up this morning thinking of this date and wondering if it was someone's birthday that I was forgetting, and once in a while the thought came back to me ("Is it someone's birthday? 🤔"), and then I get here and - tcharah, it's your birthday! 😃 Funny feeling, but all the same I may be forgetting someone else's, or most probably it's just the 18th that is "special", in a month it will be my birthday. 😉 Just wanted to wish you a great day, I'll come back later for some thoughts on the music. Enjoy your special day. 🎂🥂

Happy Birthday Matt! 🎁 🎊 🎉
I hope you will have a wonderful day
Thank you for this nice review as always!
Cheers! 🤗
Happy birthday Matt! Thanks for all the a-ha reactions (and all the other bands from my youth!) Have a great day.
Thank you, much appreciated! And I will indeed. :)
Yea this was not recorded in front of an audience, it was like a jam session that was recorded for tv. NRK is a tv station

The NRK recordings are excellent, but the Live in South America concerts are pinnacle a-ha. I hope you get around to them...
