Shnootz - Reaction Video (The Vapids - Ain't Got No Sense)
What's shaking, people! I'm back with another Vapids reaction from their cover/tribute album Teenage Head, and this time we listen to the penultimate track on the record, "Ain't Got No Sense." This is another one that conveys old-school sounds with more modern production, and features lyrics that seem a bit cheeky. So join me for another Vapids song. Cheers!

So Warm Leatherette, Nightclubbing and Living My Life are the best of Grace. However, there are tracks that you have to do outside of them like Slave to the Rhythm, La Vie En Rose, I’m Not Perfect (But I’m Perfect For You) AND you have to have to do Grace’s latest album from 2008, HURRICANE 🔥 it is INCREDIBLE. To hear her about 30 years after Nightclubbing and to hear the quality of music she produced is insane. Her sound in that album is 🤯 you have to hear it!

Ironically, with Shirley being Scottish, she probably would say "rubbish" rather than garbage, although she has lived/hung out in the States long enough to probably use the term more often. Basically, it does sound funny but it's using the American term rather than the British one

I always thought it was sad that this song never made it to official release (until decades later). Linn's vocals are great, here, and the song ended up being one of the stronger songs on the Tuesdays' 1998 album. I'm also unsure that this was meant to be a song on the Flowers album, which was released months AFTER The Tuesdays' album, "The Tuesdays", was released (Mar 24, 1998). There would be no time for The Tuesdays to record their version once Ace of Base's altered-lyrics version had been rejected by Arista's A&R. I suspect rather that this was rejected from The Bridge or The Sign album.

I completely forgot about this track, probably because i fast forwarded it (i had the cassette version). I think it should have been an extra track on a single release (like the other substandard "Up Down Suite" on the 12" version of "Rain"). Also I'm not comfortable with the misogynistic attitude of the song, even if it's making fun of that type of person, i think the irony is probably lost on a lot of the teen audience who bought this version as if it was something in a brown paper bag from under the counter and thought that behaviour towards women was healthy. To be honest the whole "Sex" book launch overshadowed the album and tainted it somewhat, as people turned away from her and it became something i don't think even she wanted it to be. Pushing people's buttons is what she likes to do but i think at this point she was surrounded by "yes men" who just let her do anything she wanted no matter how extreme she wanted to push things. Mind you by today's standards it is probably pretty tame, but i do think Madonna benefits herself when she is with someone equally creative and is more subjective about her reasons, so it's something she can justify, other than "it's controversial".

Doesn't make it to my playlist, but I enjoyed the listen. 😊 And that melodic element you mentioned at the end (is it a keyboard or a guitar? I don't know, either) is probably what stood out to me too, maybe my favourite element in the whole song. I think you pointed it out at 2:22. 😉 I really loved that. I wonder if it reminded me of something else, I suspect that might be the case. Ha, undecided Lucca! 🤣 For some reason, your lap was not comfortable enough for her (3:08). 😂

Oh! Honestly, when I suggested this one I didn't remember it was this good. ❤ I haven't heard it in many years and I had completely forgotten most of it. The instrumentation, indeed! So rich! That was a surprise to my ears. ☺ I didn't even remember the sax. 😁 I don't really like jazz and brass, but somehow I enjoy all that here. I usually focus on the vocals, that's why I love Sade in the first place, but I also didn't remember how good she sings this, expressing all the emotions so well, both with a softer and restrained tone and then some stronger and powerful vocal moments. I got goosebumps at 7:16! I also noticed she doesn't sing the same lines in the same way, there are constant variations that give it an improvised / jamming feel too, like you pointed out regarding the sax. It all has a live feel, so I get it perfectly that you felt like you were at a jazz club watching the performance. Haha, again: always beware of false endings. 😉

The original song she wrote was about 16 mins long, with several more verses. As usual with Fleetwood Mac and Stevie, there is a whole lot going on in the song related to what had been going on. There are several Sara's in the song - one is her friend Sara who married Mick Fleetwood. Their relationship ended Stevie's own relationship with him (he is the "great, dark wing, within the wings of a storm"). Sara is also what she would have called a girl child if she had one. She has also said that Sara is her alter ego, the "poet in my heart". The "if you build your house, then call me home" lines are referring to her relationship with Don Henley of The Eagles. It's one of my favourite Mac tunes, it glides along, ethereal and dreamlike, like floating in memories.

Shirley writes most of the lyrics, though the boys have chipped in. This song is about misogyny in the recording industry, and sexism in general. People telling a female artist all this BS about what she needs to do and be to succeed, that she should be more mainstream and pop, more stereotypically sexualized, cookie cutter. Ah, my favourite Garbage album. I think this song is about fame and the media, the gossip, the projection, the shallowness of it all and how what you say can be spun out in ways that are unrelated to what you meant. So it might be better to say nothing if you can. They were going for a funk vibe on the track, which is kind of distorted by the heavy guitar and drum patterns. As far as songwriting, I believe in general the guys do the music and Shirley does the lyrics.

Perhaps she was inspired by the character in the song and the punk just got to her. As for the tune, another great rollicking rock and roll vibe, the Oh oh ohs remind me a bit of The Ramones. I think you've nailed the sentiment of the song as TH are pretty cheeky lads. It's funny, normally I really pay attention to the lyrics as I am a word girly but with TH I focus more on the sonics and the lyrics are a bit of an afterthought. • @MikeyPaniker

Actually it was written by someone else, and pushed on the band to make. Linn was uncomfortable with the lyrics, “When I made love to him I was thinking of you” so they decided to change the whole song to be in third person, even adding Jonas saying “She said!” right before the bridge. I felt the best of the band becomes apparent when seeming inspired by Bono. The usual, following of the leader , I suppose. The worst of theirs is when they tried to change in order to stay relevant or cool. I'm all for experimentation, but not at the cost of ones truth. However intentional or not, I certainly sense a covert spirituality in some of their more well known works. I was 11/yo when this released.
