Haha, nice! I did see that exchange, glad you found the playlist. And fair to say, once I get my hands on their full new album (I've reacted to two of the singles already), we'll go through the rest of that too!

@@mattsnider2667 as we said last week, can't wait to get to Dance Macabre. Can't wait for the 27th! I've actually bought it even though it's on apple music. It's just a fun piece that was never meant to be taken too seriously, I think! We both thought Black Moonlight was better than Dance Macbre. Bring it on, lol! Yeah I had a great exchange with others earlier and a few nice welcomes 🙏 which has made my evening! Looking forward to seeing more of your content! Talk soon! 👊

    Both versions are amazing

@MattSnider I was thinking about their massive catalog and realizing how they have something for everyone. You have your fans who love the synthesizer sounds, your guitar fans who love the more rock elements, your dance track fans for the groove. Then you've got Simon who is the glue that brings it all together ( IMHO 😁) with his lyrics and with his voice. Matt I think you mentioned Simon's vocal abilities in one of your videos. I wanted to touch on that a little bit he started singing as a choir boy which is where he states that he got his ability to harmonize. Some of the lryics and sounds Simon creates are in his own head, like writing poetry and such, but in an interview I saw somewhere he talks about how the band creates the music 1st. Then his process is to listen to the music, to feel it, and starts harmonizing (almost chanting) which you can hear in a few of their instrumental onlys, like as in Tel Aviv that you just listened to. He does this on the song Velton Newton and Invocation as well, those are the ones that just come to my mind right now. Anyway, he starts to harmonize and chant and this is where a lot of his lyrics start to build and turns them into songs. He mentioned this because he said generally bands have lyrics first and then create music around the lyrics and they do the opposite.

Let's goooo! Cheers, welcome aboard! And yes, I've been falling farther and farther down the Duran Duran rabbit-hole these last couple weeks. I knew a few of their tunes as a kid in the '80s but only recently discovered their genius. I just can't believe how talented they are, and how many different styles they can play well! Insane.

in the late 70s SLB was in Israel for some months, and some songs from the first 2 albums, were written here......especially in TA . And this song has 2 versions: one is more like bombastic rock 70s style, and this one. i LOVE both. this is instrumental and the second is not. I think that SLB successfully got that unlike how we see our city (as if we`re NYC) as what it is: a middle eastern city with western world mentality. So the voices sounds like Moazins from mosque , and the strings are playing some Arabic vibe.....funny got of the bus and bought a latte ......maybe we are NYC 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

This album version has the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra playing (Strings were arranged by Richard Myhill) and on rare live performances they get an orchestra to play.
They most notably used the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra on the Astronaut tour for a one off show.
The singing/wailing by Simon is in the stye of Jewish or Arabic style.
As noted on the other comments there is an original version with lyrics which is completely different and written by Simon at the same time as The Chauffeur in his days living on a kibbutz.

    • @mattsnider2667
      @mattsnider2667  2 года назад +2

Oh, so it is on this version! My mistake, I thought you had said it was from a live performance. But basically that means the string parts are real, not synths. And right, that obviously makes sense in terms of Simon's vocal approach in this one. Levantine singing, one might say. And right, I was thinking about what you said about "The Chauffeur" and his time in the Kibbutz. Cheers once again, I am infinitely grateful for your contributions to my channel.

Wow! Thanks for sharing! I had not heard this one before sadly. Been a Duran Duran and Depeche Mode fan, since the '80s. Heavy on the Depeche Mode, but every Duran Duran song I loved then I love as much now. I need to think on this song but before this come undone, and ordinary world have always deeply resonated and move me.

Amazing song. So many layers! So yes, in the realm of instrumentals we have this, Faith in this Color, and Tiger Tiger, which are both on Seven and the Ragged Tiger, if I’m not mistaken and Tricked Out which is from Red Carper Massacre. There may be other instrumentals that I’m missing, but these are the standouts for me.
As far as this album, you can’t really go wrong with any song, but Careless Memories and Nightboat are the two I had previously recommended. After listening to the songs, I recommend watching the official video for Nightboat and the live version of Careless Memories from the concert film titled As The Lights Go Down. I’m not sure if you have ever seen them live, but that’s a WHOLE other can of worms.
Oh yeah, and then there are the side projects; Arcadia and Power Station. Whew!

Also cheers, I'm now remembering you brought up "Careless Memories" and "Nightboat" (in fact, one or two other people have asked for "Nightboat," so maybe I'll do that one next). Thanks again, really happy you found my channel and are helping me on this DD journey!

Reposting this comment - regarding the red words on the artwork I think it's just a style choice by the designer Malcolm Garett of assorted iMaGes.
There was a video that was put online around 2011, it was for a "Make a Video for Duran Duran" competition around the time of All You Need Is Now. They had many entries both amateur and professional , most for tracks o AYNIN, but others were for songs from their back catalogue.
In one of the winners video there was a short introduction by the Director. He starts talking about a "lost" Duran Duran album that was meant to be the soundtrack for the movie "E.T. The Extra Terrestial ". But the songs were not used and the soundtrack dropped for a more traditional one.
Of course this is all untrue, but a clever parody documentary. He goes on to say that of the songs created for ET only "Planet Earth", "Sound of Thunder" and "Anyone Out There" were what was left. The video intro then goes into an excellent pop video for "Anyone Out There?" Using clips from E.T. and live footage from their 1981 TV appearances singing "Anyone Out There?". The E.T footage is edited to the song and in the splitscreen style of DD videos. As stated, it was done as a fake documentary/video for a DD video competition.
The ET/DD video is on RUclips BUT the fake documentary is cut from it , unfortunately. I cannot post the link for the E.T. video as it deleted my original reply for so try and do a search for it.
