He’s definitely one of those artists hey. A lot of people say that about their favourites, and I totally get it, but I think with GM it’s really true… His craftsmanship and desire for perfection is transportive, just takes you to a completely new place, lifts you up. Even the most heart wrenching ballads. One of a kind 👑
Hi Sammy, I was born in 1974 and I remember the release of Faith very well because I bought the album on a 33 rpm record in 1987. I had been learning piano and organ since I was 10 at the time, so with an intro like that I jumped into this piece. And as a result of knowing on which synth the organ intro was played, the Roland D-50 was released in April 1987, maybe he was hanging around the studios before ;) and "Faith" was released on October 12, 1987. The organ sound is closer to the D50 sound presets (77 pipe organ or 18 slow rotors) than to the DX7 organ presets. The DX7 was the star between 1983 and 1987 on everything produced at the time :)
People didn’t realize it and neither did I when I was younger, but George wasn’t a mere Pop Singer singing songs written and given to him. He was actually writing and producing his own music.
You’re so right, just unbelievably talented and dedicated to his craft. It’s ridiculous. There were some parts of the video where I was just losing my mind at this song and his talent, kind of wish I’d kept them in now… I will for the next George video!
Chris Cameron actually used the Yamaha DX7 as well as the Roland D50. But the sound comes precisely from the Rom-Card "Roland PN-D50-01", Patch number 77 - "Pipe Organ" and was used during the introduction of "Faith"....
Omg you finally did it!! And on the Faith anniversary 🥹🥹 George was a beautiful soul and the most talented artists. Thank you for shining a light on him Sammy 🩷
It’s my absolute pleasure! I’m so happy we finally got there ahah, I know you’ve been waiting for this video! He really was incredible, anything to help people discover his work and appreciate him more I’m always happy to be a part of ❤️ can’t wait to do more of this songs together (Wham as well!)
This was amazing very deeply pulled apart and I love how you do this for everyone to see what it’s like. I never thought I would watch something like this but watching it from you seems to make me love them!😊 I love your videos😊😊
You are too kind Lara, thank you so much ❤️ I’m so happy that you’re enjoying all the videos, and thank you again for always supporting, it means the world ☺️
This is truly mindblowing, I subscribed. As a musician on a journey to produce my own music, I can’t tell you how helpful this is. I would love to see you break down more rock songs with live instruments.
Well done Sammy, just brilliant and loved to hear the breakdown of such an iconic George song! I would love you to breakdown the Wham! song ‘The Edge of Heaven’. 😊 The remastered Dolby Atmos version revealed so many previously unheard instrument/background/vocal/speech tracks and with your help to break it down track by track I think would be fascinating.
Thank you Peter! I'm glad you enjoyed the video, can definitely do Wham! for you too 🙏🏽 (and going to listen to the Dolby Version of Edge of Heaven right now!)
Thanks mum ❤️ always makes my day that you enjoy the videos (and hopefully not just from a biased mum perspective 😆) I know how much you love this song too!
Awesome channel Sammy - what an incredible artist, performer and producer- so poetic that we lost Prince and GM in the same year. Kiss by prince is another insanely simple but complex song. These guys were on another level - I can only point to Frank Ocean as a modern artist who has similar integrity to the art and craft.
Thank you very much 🙏🏽 Prince and George are just incredible. I’m definitely keen to dive into more of both of them together, Frank too! You’re right, just amazing artists with a real dedication to their work. The love for the craft definitely comes through when you listen!
Ahh they would both be incredible! Great picks ❤️❤️ I actually have the Mariah Carey version of One More Try too. Not quite the same as George, in my opinion, but if anyone’s going to cover it and crush it.. it’s her! (And it’s a really good listen)
Ahhh that is an awesome memory! Can definitely keep them coming 🙏🏽🔥 Also, just saw your message on IG too. Sorry it's so late getting back! Been in a mad frenzy finishing tonight's video 😅 will properly chat tomorrow, so so keen to check out your mix!
Yeah, definitely do more George Michael and Wham! stuff. All of these years of listening to faith and I never realize that the beginning or part was freedom. I’m usually good at picking stuff like that out. Just amazing 40 years later and I’m just realizing and hearing stuff. Absolutely amazing. Thank you for the video, I can’t wait to hear some more George Michael.
Fantastic to hear this sammy. A breakdown of last Christmas would be great as the season is close. I believe he did all the parts himself on a juno synth! Classic. Thanks
I was 15 when this was released and Wham! were very much an iconic part of the 80s so many people who were fortunate enough to be teenagers at this time love. Even to this day you can’t fault the music from the 80s and early 90s especially the electronic influence they had on music at this time. Sadly I fear this genre is music will often try to be imitated but rarely replicated. I remember being sat in my mates bedroom at that time listening to this album on his Hi-Fi (I forget which brand it was), the sound and haunting strings on most of this album give it a truly unique flavour. ‘One More Try’ was a particularly memorable song I still love hearing to this day. I’d love to know how you managed to rip a track like this apart to analyse every individual track in so much detail - please share your secret.
Ahhh man that is too good! And 100% agreed. Awesome memory with your mate too. One More Try is an incredible song, would love to break this one down together 🙏🏽 And they are actually the original tracks from the studio! So I didn't actually rip them apart, more so they came like that and I put the pieces back together ☺️
I recently discovered this song a few months ago. I'm a singer and performer in Turkey, and my boss suggested this song for me, man I loved it immediately. And I absolutely had an amazing time singing and performing it, as well as Wake Me Up (before you go go) - Wham. Great song. Thanks for showing this breakdown man. ❤
That is an awesome story man! (Your boss has great taste too 🔥) Definitely a great song to sing along with, wake me up as well! I hope you hang around btw, I’m going to do a video on that one too! And thank you for the love man, I really appreciate it ❤️
Interesting presentation, Sammy. That Wham's "Freedom" in the organ sound at the intro was very interesting to depict a major change in George Michael's new solo musical embarking. It was both a reminder of where he was coming from and what he is going to do next. This is something I never ever thought about. Here I can see two influences: there is Freddie Mercury's vocal intonations and the other is that I feel that rhythm and groove (especially the bass and clapping sounds) were borrowed from The Cure's 'Close to Me' which was released two years prior to it (in 1985). Check it out!
I think that's the most illuminating video on song "making" I have come across so far. If you read what's written, it's quite demanding, you may choose to take it easy though, which is another good feature of this video that was suggested on RUclips's margin to me, interest in music and crafts. I even forgot about the song as I knew it which I was woken up by every day for 8 weeks "before I go go" by the alarm clock of my room mate, when I was up and running in L.A. in the 80ies. Cheers! Keep up the good work.

He still makes my life brighter every single day. I love George.😋❤️💋
This album was actually recorded in Denmark. George worked from morning till late night in the studio (Puk Studios in Randers).
Cracking tune. Really interesting to hear the vocals dissected. They’re sung quite softly but when they’re all playing it’s pretty powerful.
This is my favorite song 😍. Thnak you for stopping me wondering how it made. 🎉🙏🏼
