I am living for the Janet videos!!! She’s my favorite and I feel like these breakdowns explain just how underrated she is as a vocalist and writer. Her music is essential to the Pop landscape…like this is the foundation of everything we hear on the radio today. Jam & Lewis remain undefeated. Amazing job!!!
I’m so glad you’re loving them! Thank you 🫶🏼 You’ve honestly said it all - I couldn’t agree more! Will be plenty of videos Janet on the way, so so keen 😍
There’s so many layers in this that I would’ve never spotted when hearing the song. I had this record on vinyl and then CD, and Jam & Lewis‘s production techniques are on full display here.
Man, that is an awesome story, thank you. It’s an incredible song, I completely see why! Really glad you enjoyed the video too, I hope you hang around or more, will be plenty more Janet to come 🙏🏽
Yes! So excited for this! Janet has Soooooo many good tracks for you to dissect. Some I'm hoping for are Got til it's gone, If, and Scream w/Michael. So many hidden goodies in the backgrounds of those tracks.
Oh you have the best taste! Would absolutely love to do all of these for you (and we most definitely will ahah). I’m thinking the same! If will probably be next, maybe even scream after that, for Halloween? Obviously thriller too ahah. Too many good songs 😍
@@sammymccormack_ I vote for you analysing Alright and here's an interesting one (I think): the best things in life are free which of course she performed with the great Luther Vandross.
I ALWAYS FELT JANET JACKSON'S song "IF" has some of the most beautiful vocal harmonies and layers of any pop song.. Those OOOs and AAHHS are DELICIOUS! but that's most of JANET JACKSON'S MUSIC. This sounded so ethereal, soulful & funky- Janet, Jimmy, and Terry brought so much flavor to POPULAR MUSIC
Dude! I totally connect with your giddyness with the Jam & Lewis production!! 😂 This album is a sonic industrial RnB TREAT!!. Right down to noticing the synth sample at 6:22 as being from the previous album's 'Nasty' track--you are on the ball!!! I'm subscribing!! I've done a similar thing on my channel--re-creating a few Prince tracks. Mainly the Linn Drum work, but I throw in a little guitar, bass and of course, Prince's amazing synth work and even his ghost-writing string arranger Claire Fischer's work on one of The Family's tracks. I've seen Jimmy talk at length about his studio process and explain what gear was used on which tracks and why. With all due respect to janet, I just wish they'd release and instrumental version of Rhythm Nation 1814. It' is a master class!!
Love all the analysis and deep into all these details , thank you for giving the opportunity to all us Janet fans rediscovering her music in such a new way!!! You seem to enjoying as well and that’s very pleasant ❤

Amazing job, Sammy! I just subscribed again because RUclips unsubscribed me. Everyone make sure you’re subscribed! Thank you for your time and effort into not only breaking down these stacks and stems, but also the attention to detail that you put into your editing. It’s so cool to see the artist on screen behind you because it adds another layer of tribute. Plus, like I said before, you have a great presence and energy that I’m sure will transcend on and beyond this platform! Keep on doing the great work!

Little Known fact , the song was originally supposed to be a duet with Prince. That's why you hear that Minneapolis sound! Hence Why Janet starts off with low vocals which are amazing ! People differently underestmate her as a vocalist.
This is amazing, and Janet is one of the best when it comes to layering and background vocals! Thank you for sharing! I'd love to hear any and all Janet multitracks! I'm subscribing!
She really is! When it comes to harmonies and BG’s she’s pretty hard to beat. Will definitely be doing more Janet tracks for you, we have a lot to get through hehe. And thank you for the love and sub, I really appreciate it ❤️❤️
WOW! This brought me to tears. All the beautifully masked musical elements. That one melancholic, heartstring diminished chord. The reassuring lyrics. And Janet's angelic voice. Masterpiece. How were you able to disassemble the parts?
You’ve said it all! It really is one of those songs. Just takes you to a whole new place. I was fortunately able to get a copy of the session, so it wasn’t disassembled by me with software, but is the actual multitracks from Jimmy and Terry! (beside a couple vocal tracks that are missing, so this was likely the version before the final version).
@@Wilboe66 Sooo sad, yet so true. You know I’ve heard the saying, “misery loves company“ I never really thought much of it until the last 8 years. I’m convinced that’s what it is. Ah man, I know! Really wish the high note was there but that entire vocal track is missing from the session 😭 Fortunately the rest of the song is just so good ahah. I agree with her vocals too, she just gets it done like it’s no one’s business. Those harmonies are something else!
