This song! Seriously, I've been listening to this song tens of thousands of times since '86 - and always loved it so much - but I keep finding new appreciation for it. Basically for all their songs on the early albums. They were only in their mid twenties when they wrote these amazingly intricate songs ffs. It blows my mind that they were written off as a one-hit wonder band. They were really next level back then, way ahead of their time...and even themselves. Thankfully I recognised their genius and was always like "...wait a minute...this is not pop...this is something else! Nobody...as in NOBODY...makes music like this!" And the best thing is that they just kept on going, they kept evolving, always trying to do something different from one album to the next. Looking forward to your reaction to the Stay On These Roads album - but especially to the East of The Sun and Memorial Beach albums!
Cheers, can't wait to hear those albums too. And onto Stay on These Roads next time! Also, I totally agree the label "pop" doesn't suitably characterize the sonic quality and composition of a-ha's tunes from the two albums I've heard. Just unbelievable!
I love this song but this version is just mastepiece, I just can t, it s too much, I can t stop listening. I remember my brother, a hard rock fan had this extended single, maxi single, that s what we called it, he loved it, I loved it, I fogot about it, it takes me back now, he isn t with us or me anymore, but it brings back good memories. He died when he was 46 years of age and he loved all kinds of music aa long as it spoke to his heart❤️ sleep tight my dear brother❤️
Hey there. Cheers for sharing, that was very moving. And it is a testament to the power of good music when it speaks to your memories and people you've known.
Morten says that Pål and Magne's band (with two others), The Bridges, impressed him greatly the first time he heard them play. They had everything, but they lacked a singer. He contacted them and expressed his interest, but did not push. He realized he had to wait until they discovered him. Both Pål and Magne are fantastic musicians, and Pål in particular is brilliant as a songwriter. When you get a vocalist like Morten into the band, you have everything you need to succeed. Fortunately, they have continued to make music despite the fact that there is great tension within the band. They themselves say that precisely these frictions contribute to the creation of interesting music.
Cheers, and that last part makes so much sense to me. I follow a few other bands who have complicated personal relations but who also make brilliant music, so clearly there's something to contrast and tension in a creative environment.
Hey there! I did just start reacting to Morten's solo material (the first reaction was for his cover of Frankie Valli's "Can't Take My Eyes Off You"), so if that song is on one of his albums, I'll get to it soon for sure. Cheers!

Me too, and still listening.
You'll be amazed by the same tune thrice once you listen to their 1991 NRK live performance of this song.
OH YES! That whole concert is unbelievable!
I can’t agree more…you really NEED to watch and listen to the live NRK one…it is THE definitive version of this song!

I love this. It's a great example of an extended remix done well.

As well as the NRK version, you should also checkout the mtv unplugged version of this. Totally different vibe
One of my favorite extended versions ever! So well done. 😎
