I am 70 years old andI was diagnosed with Parkinson's around three years ago. I researched and found a couple of studies that showed the "potential" for benefits to be had from creatine for people with this condition so I started supplementing at 5g per day. I also started resistance training to improve my "robustness" and hopefully limit the potential from injury from falls. In the past three years I've lost bodyfat and gained significant amounts of muscle (my biceps went from 13.5 inches to 15 inches). My tremors have hardly worsened at all and I feel quite mentally agile and functional. When I do fall I don't break... I just bounce! Fantastic. I noticed none of the supposed side-effects such as bloat, gastric discomfort etc. Maybe I should be a poster-boy for creatine 🙂
I love the testimony of your success and I hope someone learns that taking control of the body is possible and a must. I have some great results as well at 59. I like what daily physical conditioning and proper rest and food has done for me. I won't brag but I just feel really well. Your story is awesome
Ive been taking creatine since the mid '90s. Im 62, six feet, 195 pounds, 13% bf. But, ive been an athlete my entire life. Still lift heavy 3-4 times a week. I look at least 20 years younger and my lifestyle is the same as when i was in my twenties.
These are amazing results!! Keep up the great work and thank you for sharing 😊 How much do you take and do you mix it in with coffee or can it only be had with water?
I heard it causes some hair losses …any experience with that ? It’s the only reason I haven’t taken in supplement form. My head is still 90 percent covered in hair id like to keep that .
Benefit's. Increased muscle mass and helps with weight gain. Makes bone stronger. Helps keep brain healthy. Act's as an anti inflammatory. Helps the immune system. Improves skin health. Stimulates collagen when used topically 🌻
@@babylemonade000 The weight gain is caused by increased water retention not fat. From my understanding after the loading period this goes away. You can start low and increase gradually and this shouldn't happen.
Billions of years ago I was doing my usual cruise around the solar system. While parked at a rest stop on Uranus a totally ripped alien came up and introduced me to creatine. By the time I made it back to my developing planet earth I had started to notice some strength gains in addition to the ability to run like the wind. I was much indebted to that alien dude thing because if I hadn't started taking creatine the freshly hatching dinosaurs surely would have been able to catch and eat me. 😉
I take creatine, taurine, fish oil and magnesium threonate daily. I've never had this much energy in my life, at 36 I feel better than I did in my twenties.
I'm an old gym rat. Been taking creatine for years and have seen dozens of videos about it. Yours is by far the best and most informative. Well done buddy!!!
YOU ARE DPOT ON WITH WHAT YOU SAY I STARTED TAKING CREATINE 3 YEARS AGO WHEN I WAS 56 WITH RESISTANCE TRAINING THREE TIMES A WEEK I HAVE MY SIX PACK FROM MY 20S AND MORE MUSCLE THAN EVER THIS STUFF WORKS LIKE MAGIC .
I used to take creatine in the late 90’s and mid 2000’s and I was felt great and was in shape. I’m 44 now 6’2” and was 25% body fat. After 4 months of 3-4 day gym and daily pickle ball I’ve dropped weight and just feel like I’m back in my 20’s. I also been taking TST booster and that really made the difference in my torso and stomach. My family alaways asking what changed and it’s definitely the creatine.
This is so interesting !? I went 90% Carnivore 3 months ago, and I just turned 60,… everything ftom my sleep, to my physical stamina 💪🏻, to loosing 12 lbs,… and surprisingly benefits to my mood 🤗 I was also diagnosed with moderate to severe Osteoporosis over 10yrs ago !!So I’m going to start supplementing today,… Just wish I was aware of Créatine sooner as I’ve also had Autoimmune issues sinceI was in my mid-30’s 😫
i started taking creatine daily after reading a small study that found it can help to treat symptoms of depression in addition to its benefits in athleticism. have honestly noticed a change in my mood and cognition. talk to your physician but i definitely recommend this. for athletes and non athletic people.
Im glad you made this video, Doc. Creatine is misunderstood by many people. I use creatine regularly and I lift three days per week. Creatine actually helps me to sleep better too probably because it helps to heal and recover more quickly from exercise.
I have a bad case of Hoshimotos and felt like I was dying when on gluten and sugar. I cut those out and cut down on dairy and I can’t believe the difference. I’m hoping this will give me that little extra boost that a 60 year old often needs. Thanks.

My girlfriend has Hoshimotos. To mitigate normal issues with food, she eats Keto and uses monk fruit sweetener in anything needing sugar. 1 hour of exercise a day. She does a good job of staying out of the weeds now.
I took it on and off for various weightlifting purposes and always noticed it had a terrible effect on my mood. I do not like it and will never take it again. It was like depression juice for me. Some people have argued with me saying that's not what it does and I say that's okay. Because it is okay. You do you and I will continue to not take creatine.
I use it for decades now, consistently. Even take it with me on holidays. I’m 66 and never experienced a side effect. But that said; you is indeed you, me is me and neither of us is someone else. In other words, top communication with your own organism trumps influencers, health gurus, life coaches and often enough, also doctors. In other words: you’re damn right :)
I'm 60. Worked out my whole life. When younger worked out pretty stupidly. Always heavy (for me). Never did juice, but did creatine. Certainly helped put on strength. Now with two shoulder replacements, forcing me to do more band and bodyweight work, I never thought about going back to DB work (outside of arm work). I started creatine again and started doing some free weight work. Used to love heavy DB bench and incline bench work. Used to do 120's for 5-6 reps. Yes, this was 20+ years ago and prior to the shoulder mess. Well, I started slowly and used 40 lb. DB's for inclines. I hadn't done them in quite some time so I was apprehensive. Over a few months, I decided to go for the heaviest ones (75 lbs). Can you tell I train at a Planet FItness? 😂 Anyway, I only decided to try 6 reps just to get the feel. Did it w/o a ton of strain. Now at 10 reps and at last workout may have been able to eek out one or two more. I know that may sound wimpy to many, especially when I could do 105's for 10-12 back in the day, but given age and shoulder condition, I'm pretty happy. I have no doubt creatine has played a big part in helping me get the mindset to return to free weights. Still really do love band work though. Not as easy as many may think.
@JonM-ts7os Hi Jon, very interested to hear back from you 4 months on, with the benefits? I’m very keen to try this & will be starting tomorrow! I need it for ptsd, physical pain & zero energy too. Do keep us posted, so many positive comments, can’t believe I haven’t heard of it other than for athletics/body building! Best wishes from Ireland ☘️
if you eat veggies/meat small amt of fruit, (no dairy/sugar/starch/alcohol) and work out/do some fun cardio sports or dancefit, you could weigh 200 lbs in 6 months!! go for it!!
Creatine can make you sick if you have Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, which is an inflammatory disorder. I know from experience. MCAS is similar to autoimmune in that it can make you have terrible reactions to all of the things that should be good for you, or that you actually need to heal from it. That’s a rough analogy. It’s pretty obscure, so I’m only posting this in case someone reading might be having bizarre reactions to healthy things, maybe including Creatine. Look into it. It’s a very gnarly thing to have but you can get out of it. Actually: I’m sure there are a number of health conditions that could make someone react badly to Creatine.
I take it every morning with my beat juice drink I am 62 and it is awesome stuff..I bike ride mtn snd road and also do a daily workout and look awesome at 62. I still wear the same pant Size I did in high school. I am 6 foot and am 170 with a 32 inch waist..!! And also have had multiple head injuries and no longer get cluster headaches.. And have had multiple injuries from combat deployments. And it has helped all of them 6 shoulder surgerys lower back injuries and man it works!!
For those asking, here is the creatine that I personally use: amzn.to/44AOOQ5 Just look for any version of creatine monohydrate with no added fillers and you should be good to go. I take about 1-2 grams a day and it really does help with mood and muscle mass. I have more energy during the day. If I take the full 5 grams, I have a hard time sleeping. They recommend 5 grams for everyone, but I think scaling it down if you weigh less makes more sense. How does it make sense to take the same dose if you weigh 100 lbs vs 200 lbs? It doesn't. So, IMHO - adjust accordingly since sleep is critical. My experience, FWIW...
I have been taking creatine for about thirty years, still do powerlifting at seventy. I use it as one of my macros protein, carbohydrate, fat and creatine.
OK, I’m a 66 year old male. I began working out 8 months ago at just about ground zero. I have been progressing although rather slowly. I just started taking creatinine. I’m taking 3 grams in capsules form with no loading. After one week I had zero side effects and I started noticing less soreness between sessions. I do a full body workout 3 times a week for roughly an hour and 15 minutes. I’ll try to give an update after 2 weeks.
I was posting because I thought it would be interesting for some to hear from someone just starting out, but I didn’t get much feedback so I just moved on. Anyway, was sick last week and wasn’t able to workout, but went back Monday. I have seen steady improvement and I can definitely see a difference, my wife has noticed, but not many other people. At 67, I had a birthday in December, I am lifting more than ever before! Things are starting to slow down some and I’m thinking of going to 4 grams a day. Thanks for asking and god bless
@robertranger6612 Same here pal, I've noticed the retention of water in muscles along with better pumps, it's definitely helped improve my physique in the last few days. With just creatine, nucleus overload training and lots of carbs. God bless you too and thanks for the feedback. I'd be glad to hear more about your progress if your willing to share!
What is the best way to take creatine for example, in water and milk with a smoothie or the way I take it is with my coffee and a scoop of honey in the morning.
My 2 week update. I’m feeling less soreness than last week. I find my sessions are getting easier not by a lot, but definitely easier. I’m surprised since I mostly read 3 to 4 weeks before it would kick in without a preload. Still no side effects.
Iwent to do a physical testing at my heart doctor. i could not do the whole bicycle training, my muscles gave up on me in 4 minytes. My heart was ok though. i recently learned, not from any of the doctors, but researching low metylation, serotonin, depression, autoimmune, that creatine helps ATP. and all that you are saying. Im getting on creatine now! Thank you!
@@charlotteknutsen7262 actually because of creatine my nodules got inflamed.( i believe its because the vascular bloodflow started to happen more) so i had to stop it 🙄😞 now im taking taurine it looks like its ok
Since it has benefits for Parkinson’s and auto-immune conditions I think I’m going to try it for multiple sclerosis. It can’t make me any worse than I already am. I used to take it often for weight lifting in my 20’s but stopped when I had a family. Now pushing 50 and have a hell of a time walking because of multiple sclerosis, and also have really bad hand tremors. Worth a shot.
I have brain trauma I'm still working through and I've tried quite a few things to boost healing. Creatine lit my brain up immediately. Far less trauma brain, anxiety, memory loss, etc. It's been amazing
Im in my late 40’s and I have a Hypoxic brain injury, that I suffered a few years back and my memory has been shit ever since. Started Creatine a few weeks back for working out and already have seen improvements in myself physically and mentally. Also researched Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney Aus. is undertaking a study into Creatine intake and the Acquired Brain Injured (that I May participate in if I follow it up, which I feel obliged too due to ABI and early in my use of Creatine) and positive results. I really am amazed as I never really worked out and investigated Creatine and supplements in my life but so glad I did as the Doctors I have been seeing haven’t mentioned shit to me about health supplements, just pushing pharmaceuticals crap.
I have been using creatine for the past year when I began a weight lifting program. Though it's hard to tell between the increase in protein intake versus effects of creatine, I think that it's had positive cognitive effects. I will be bringing some to my 89 year old mother as Kbsuspect that 2-3 grams a day could help her a lot.
Like a lot of other substances, there is a distribution among the population driving how much an individual will respond (positively or negatively). That applies to everything: caffeine, alcohol, aspirin etc I’m hyper responsive to creatine. For me it’s like PDE.
By way of an update, my mother advised me that she felt her muscle strength improve in the past few weeks, which coincided with her starting on creatine, and she thinks that it may have been the contributing factor to her improvement.
What about a person who has had o 2:45 ne kidney since age since six, has ckd, stage 2, aged 70 and working out 5 days a week. I am interested but concerned it will add to my CKD.

I'm using creatine daily and I feel great in the morning and focused throughout the day. I will get to training but for now I'm over 50 very active and I'm able to bounce back.
No matter what age, you should always add any supplement to your regimen in small amounts, gradually increasing as you go and cycle off, every once in awhile.
In my mid 50s I take a mix of creatine and glutamine. Mostly running and road cycling with a little weight training. Very lean for my age with 11% body fat average.
I had a shockingly good experience using creatine for three years. I'd recommend it to everyone. It's very important to drink plenty of water while you're using it, saves the kidneys and makes it more effective. Thanks for video, I'd completely forgotten about it!
A few people I know who have used it, specifically for weight training mind, have said that they thought the long term use may have aided in the production of kidney stones. This is a very small amount of people, relatively speaking.
Not everyone should take creatine , for me creatine doesn't work , doesn't do anything , it only gives me non-stop headaches, also drinking tons of water is annoying
If it has an anti-inflammatory effect, has anyone looked into it's effect on artheroschlerosis? Heart disease is the number one world killer and if this reduces or even better, reverses inflammation in arteries, it could be a life saver.
I started taking creatine 3 years ago when I started lifting weights again at 58. It helped me do deadlifts and squats ( exercises i never did before because i was afraid to) and it helped me have the energy to get two more reps in all the different exercises i did. Two reps makes a lot of difference when you push yourself to get that last excruciating rep to break down micro tears to build muscle. In the end of the year I squated 400 lbs and deadlifted 400 lbs without a weight belt. I lost about 45 lbs thru keto, weights lifting, yoga and walking on the treadmill. When I started working, i stopped working out. Three weeks ago, I was 260 lbs, could hardly walk a few steps without gasping for air. Today at almost 61 years old, I'm back on keto (😢 cheating alot) started creatine yesterday and saw my lifting energy sky rocket. Lifted 3 hours easy waiting 3 minutes between sets to let the atp build up after set. I deadlifted 320 lbs and used 18 45 pound plates on the leg press machine. Creatine gives you that extra energy for two more reps, which leads to better muscle work out, which leads to more strength and keeping muscle mass. My suicidal ideations are less after my workout because I feel like I've done something. I'm homeless and live in my car 23 hours a day. 3 weeks ago I decided to try to change that. Still not great, but my mental pain and physical pain was worse 3 weeks ago. I hope everyone's journey to better mental health and physical health goes in a positive direction. Truly, I would rather not be here, but if I'm in this world, I want to be as healthy as possible. God bless, Leo✌️ Edit: creatine was $8 a 15 oz plastic container, nothing in the creatine has changed, but the price is $27 now for the same jar. So I guess that enough people saw the benefits to drive the price up more that 3 time than it was 3 years ago. Crazy.

Ive been lifting weights and cycling for the last 20 plus years...ive been fit, unfit, fit, unfit. Hit a low point around two years ago, constantly depressed and fatigued. Started taking creatine around 3months ago. Two capsules in the morning which works out at 1.5g combined. My god do i feel better. I feel like a different person. Depression has gone, no more fatigue and work/daily tasks are completed. Highly recommend it

My dad had dementia. I was shocked to find out that creatine slows down the progression of it. I take it daily now, but it goes right through me so I can only take a little.
Thanks for your help with this. I have been trying out different ways to get my body back to normal. This information has helped me get back into my normal rhythm and I have found it helpful. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Some side effects that need to be researched before you think about taking creatine including water retention, digestion problems, hair loss, high blood pressure and more.
I found creatine do wonders for information retention. I have an attention issue i can read a page and would have to read it 3-4 times to process the information in the page. Been taking creatine now 3 months everyday and i can read a page and retain the information in my memory for the first time ever, im even learning a foreign language because im able to remember the words im learning...cant rate this stuff high enough and i only take 3g a day....and no hair loss no nausea or upset stomach, but im on a low dose.
I started taking creatine this weekend to threat the few last stages of fatigue and brain fog together with increased levels of anxiety, and possibly depression caused by a severe COVID infection from 10 months ago.
I took creatine for a bit . Stopped when I noticed excessive shedding of hair. Spoke to my doc who told me that creatine doesn't directly cause hair loss however it does increase dht which may causes hair loss. I prefer having a solid head of hair at 40 so I stopped, although I maintain my gym goals just without the creatine .
@@AZ-gs6hj incorrect. That happened to me when I was 37, 38.. I'm 40 now and my head of hair has never been better. I have little to no shedding, hair line is strong and I've had no issues. I also had a similar problem when I did a protein powder cut (ie replacing food for protein powder and doing a substantial cut).
@@Lisa-hm2mp did yours get better after you stopped?after I stopped creatine it took a while but it all went back to normal. I also take biotin and a few vitamins to help out. I am mindful of the amount of protein powder I consume since high doses of a certain brand caused the same shedding . But if I consume average amounts no shedding and no issues .
I LOVED taking creatine and I got really good results. I never even loaded either. I just did a small dose every day , but there was a problem. I was getting really tired throughout the day , like I had no energy. I stopped taking the creatine and I was fine. Thought it as a coincidence, started taking it again and of course I was getting tired again . So I stopped for good. Anyone else have this issue?
Initially, I had good results taking it. The pain in my knee was no longer an issue and my flexibility improved. Then the fatigue along with the frequent urination issues at night became a problem. When I stopped the creatine, the side effects disappeared. It's not for everyone.
Only reason I am not taking creatine is because I started eating a lot more grass fed and finished ground beef and bison. Food sources are usually best. Sometimes when fasting i take creatine powder with HMB its like a dianabol stack. Not that I ever took roids.
Hi doc….I enjoyed your video. Just wondering how this supplement might affect the kidneys. I am 60 yrs. old and only have one kidney. I want to know how safe it would be for me to take creatine since it seems to have so many benefits? Thanks!
Take creatine it doesn't effect the kidneys unless you are already some to kidney issues Creatine is the safest and most researched supplement on the planet just make sure to be drinking plenty of water don't listen to the other idiots in the comment section if you are really concerned speak to your doctor and don't get your medical advice from the internet

I remember taking creatine 15 years ago, I felt stronger for sure, I remember playing football with my mates and noticing I could kick the ball stronger than usual. But I also felt a burning eye sensation througout the day, not sure if it was dehydration but I felt I should stop. Let's face it, the body is more sofisticated than anything we can build or imagine, it has the ability to sustain life, do you really think the body is supposed to need any modern supplement or pill?
My bio age is 65. I do regular exercise and started taking Creatine to recover from muscle fatigue and excesses that shows up in mild aches combined with sauna and Spa it just the best thing I continue day in day out. Pretty much everyday.. My other activity is Twitter, and other social media to the point of excess. This has given me what others might call brain fog. Cutting it down barely helps. So I started taking Methylene Blue that really helped and I averted something like panic. (last series session 4 drops twice a day) with wonderful results. However, I noticed that while Creatine had reduced by blood pressure to where I did not need to take meds & keep my prediabetes in check also with out taking Metformin or Berberine. Taking Methylene Blue has raised by Blood pressure to where i need to take meds and having to take Berberine to keep sugar in check. Searches haven't shown any analysis of what might be happening and any hacks who might have a come across a link...Anybody here who has an input to discuss would be great.
In theory, would Collagen + L Glutamine + Creatine all synergize together or would there be a reason not to take those together? I have severe eczema and have been actively looking into anything that improves skin health, auto-immune disorders, wound healing, gut health, and reduces inflammation.
I am not a doctor. Though I can give some insight! Collagen, L-glutamine, and creatine all have different mechanisms of action, but they can work synergistically to support skin health, immune function, wound healing, gut health, and reduce inflammation. In theory, these supplements could have some synergistic effects, particularly when it comes to supporting gut and skin health. However, the research on these supplements is still limited, and their combined effects have not been thoroughly studied. It is essential to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement regimen, especially if you have a pre-existing condition or are taking medication. There is no known reason why these three supplements cannot be taken together, and in fact, they may work synergistically to support the body. **RMEMEBER it is important to consult with a healthcare provider to determine the appropriate dosage and to ensure that there are no potential interactions with any medications or medical conditions you may have. I am not a doctor**
Thank you so much Dr. Childs. I've just put this into my basket on iherb along with berberine. Is there a mix of supplements that absolutely should not be taken together? I take thyroid glandular, adrenal reset, magnesium l-threonate, multivitamin and probiotics. It's starting to feel like I'm swallowing more pills than food! I don't mind as I've been taking pills all my life (epileptic since infancy) but I don't want to end up doing more harm than good.

I wish I could take creatine, but my eGFR ranges between 58- 67, (stage 1 kidney diaease) way to low for a young guy. High creatinine level = low eGFR... and if your kidneys can't process creatine, don't take it. Before you take creatine, get your Creatinine and eGFR tested (simple blood and urine test). Understand the difference between Creatine, Creatinine and Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate.

@@mudwiser1391is there protein in your urine or nitrites?? If not and you're test is normal without it then you do not have ckd. You need a cystatin C test.
I started on it at the 5g/day dose and noticed improvements in energy and strength. On the negative side, I noticed significant cramping of major muscles, mostly legs and a 3-5% weight gain. A concerning negative however was an increase in Creatinine in a routine blood test. (Normal for me was 115 , but with Creatine, it went to 155. I was referred to a nephrologist who instructed me to stop Creatine. I did and my Creatine level dropped back to 115. Cramping stopped also. I started again with 2g/day and haven't yet tested my Creatine level but will soon. The cramping has returned but is mild. Since I feel fine I plan to continue to use the Supplement even if the Creatinine level goes up a bit. Are you aware of any harm to kidneys for those using Creatine with a rise above 120 on Creatinine test? I'm age 76.
Of course you get higher creatinine levels while on creatine. It's not the creatinine that harms the kidneys, it's that raised levels can in certain circumstances be an indicator of renal insufficiency. I.e. your doctor should definitely not recommend you getting off creatine for no other reason than because you have higher creatinine levels. If your doctor doesn't get this, they should find another job.
I tend to agree with Lauglvn, but then my knowledge is limited and I'm not a doctor. Did yours indicate what problems are actually _caused_ by elevated creatinine levels?
I forgot to mention that some of the concern over the high Creatinine (155) was that I have been on Mobic (15mg) for years (I take one every 3-4 days and for sure not daily). My PCP was reluctant to renew the Mobic with the high Creatinine level which is why she sent me to the Nephrologist who ordered a renal function panel that showed no problems. I have not reduced the Mobic and the Creatinine level is back down to 115.
Good video. I did notice that Creatine seems to have some of the same benefits as Methylene Blue, and they both increase ATP. Perhaps that is the mechanism behind all of their benefits?
Sorry, I am questioning the claims as kidney disease results in a higher creatin level and I didn't experience these effects. It is possible that being poisoned by other effects of a failing kidney may have neutralized the benefits.
I have a double jointed thumb and the past 9 months it was given me grief. I started creatine for weight training and in less than 5 days the pain in my thumb was gone. Not sure what caused the pain as I never went to a doctor but can say the pain has gone after taking this. I'm not going crazy just recommended dose per day and already lifting more
For men taking creatine with enlarged prostate can make the condition worse. Do not feel you need to take supplements, a good diet, good exercise, good sleep and minimizing stress while connecting with positive people is most important.
Dr Childs, are these benefits seen just with monohydrate or also with the Kre-alkalyn form? I've been taking the kre-alkalyn form bc I read it is buffered and is supposed to be absorbed into the cell better and also prevent water retention and gi issues. But I don't think I've gotten a u cognitive benefits. Does kre-alkalyn not have the same benefits as monohydrate?
Started taking creatine regularly last 2 months. In the same time I saw my pull ups go from about 24 to 25 to 30 just today. I train same muscles about 2x a week fairly consistently.
No it isn’t. Loading dose is 20 grams a day for a week, 3-5 grams afterwards. Full saturation doesn’t come after 35 grams taken. 5 grams daily will get you fully saturated in a month.
what happens if a Hashmito patient takes creatine it is very interesting that ı took creatine today and ı feel less good than before , and ı think creatine boosted the effect of thyroid pill so ı am planning to not take the thyroid pill tomorrow to balance my thyroid
I think people with health problems need to be very careful with supplements in general, we don’t respond the same way as healthy people. I have Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, which is an inflammatory disorder, and I can’t take Creatine, it makes me sick. MCAS is similar to autoimmune disorders in some ways. I’m sure you know Hashimoto’s is a form of autoimmune. We have to be super careful.
The dye used for angio and cardiac surgery can interfere with high levels of creatine and cause dysfuntion in the kidneys and even kidney failure. This has happened within our family
I was big into creatine and it helped a lot during some loading seasons. Just be careful with it, I ended up developing kidney stones and had some very rough complications. Be sure to take care of your kidneys and POUND water
Can't find a single study that shows an increase in kidney stone occurrence due to creatine use. Not even a study that tested individuals that were predisposed to have kidney stones. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9585689/
@@ChrisLT Compared to my other active buddies, I drank more water than just about anybody I knew. In addition to creatine, I think I went to hard on a high protein diet and my sodium intake was up which flushes calcium out through the urine(which can contribute to stones). So I believe it was multiple factors. I was supplement heavy with creatine, protein shakes and vitamins and I think it was just too much concentrated stuff for my kidneys all the time. I’d say, don’t stack your daily creatine intake at one time. Spread it out through the day while pounding water. In addition, citrus prevents stone formation so add some lemon juice to water to be proactive. Hope this helps, kidney stones are horrendous. Btw I was 29 and in good shape when it happened, I though KS was for old folks… NOPE
I have tried Creatine but even at a low does it always affects my gut and get bloated and gut reaction to it does anyone know why ? Or has a reaction to creatine I have hashimotos and type 1 diabetes
Creatine can lead to false positives of Chronic Kidney Disease, along with a Carnivore diet and weight lifting-this just happened to me. After 5 months of worry-I finally got a Cystatin C test instead of the basic metabolic panel. I am perfectly healthy-but Creatine in diet can cause a lot of concern in blood work and wound up costing me a lot of money in Dr visits and repeat blood work, urinalysis, Ultra sounds.
@@johnf.hebert1409 Ask your Dr for a Cystatin C test- it is a blood plasma test and more reliable for Kidney disorders. Did you know there are 3 different equations for CKD/eGFR? its all so weird. My ultra sound was Negative too! Easy test to get as well.
This is good information. Unfortunately, there's not a ot of information out there for creatines affect with those prone to high BP. This is just my personal experience with it. I did see some strength benefits semicolon however, even with just the recommended 5 grams karma with no preloading, the extra water bloat from taking it definitely impacted my BP. I could feel it and it measured High. This was even while following my usual lower sodium type diet. 5 days after stopping creatine, I did see the expected weight loss and less bloating, and my BP started trending back downwards. Again, I just want to mention this is my own personal experience, along with finding a few sites to talk about the risk of taking it if you are at risk for high BP. I have not checked to see if taking a lower dose would make a difference.
Thanks for clearly stating the benefits doc. Can’t say the amount of times I’ve been told I don’t need to use supplements or that it’s like using steroids…. Sigh
Look into lithium and thiamine for Parkinson’s.
I love the testimony of your success and I hope someone learns that taking control of the body is possible and a must. I have some great results as well at 59. Billions of years ago I was doing my usual cruise around the solar system. While parked at a rest stop on Uranus a totally ripped alien came up and introduced me to creatine.
The placebo effect is strong.

That applies to everything: caffeine, alcohol, aspirin etc
I’m hyper responsive to creatine. For me it’s like PDE.
It's hard to tell of the cognitive effects are from the creatine or protein?
.....its not protein.
By way of an update, my mother advised me that she felt her muscle strength improve in the past few weeks, which coincided with her starting on creatine, and she thinks that it may have been the contributing factor to her improvement.

Im 29 and 3 ft 1 last year my head exploded and my feet fell off i started takikg creating and within one month my feet came back i am nkt 6ft 1 and i have a head again ! Thanks creatine
I don't know if I should cry or laugh with your comment.. just had an engine-start giggle..
My dad had dementia. I was shocked to find out that creatine slows down the progression of it. I take it daily now, but it goes right through me so I can only take a little.
Dissolve it in warm water first and it won’t have that effect
Try micronised creatine monohydrate or cheated version. Have with Fibre n fats, to slow absorption. Good luck. 💪🏾🦁
Thanks for your help with this. I have been trying out different ways to get my body back to normal. This information has helped me get back into my normal rhythm and I have found it helpful. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Sounds very promising, where are the links for sources to all the research proving all the potentials?
You should do your own research.
I was just remarking to myself how nice my skin looked, especially on my legs. Thanks creatine.
Excellent information and to the point. Thanks.
I started taking only 1 mg per day and it has relieved all muscle body pains .
I just started taking it about 2 weeks ago. I hope to see all the benefits.

How did it go? You transform into ronnie coleman or tekashi 69?
Some side effects that need to be researched before you think about taking creatine including water retention, digestion problems, hair loss, high blood pressure and more.
And apparently hormonal acne…
I found creatine do wonders for information retention. I have an attention issue i can read a page and would have to read it 3-4 times to process the information in the page. Been taking creatine now 3 months everyday and i can read a page and retain the information in my memory for the first time ever, im even learning a foreign language because im able to remember the words im learning...cant rate this stuff high enough and i only take 3g a day....and no hair loss no nausea or upset stomach, but im on a low dose.
Does it raise your blood pressure?
I started taking creatine this weekend to threat the few last stages of fatigue and brain fog together with increased levels of anxiety, and possibly depression caused by a severe COVID infection from 10 months ago.
won't do a damn thing
My creatinine levels were elevated when I took creatine. They normalized when I stopped. Problem or no?
Pretty sure that's why you take it..
Thanks Dr Childs i found it helpful
I took creatine for a bit . Stopped when I noticed excessive shedding of hair. Spoke to my doc who told me that creatine doesn't directly cause hair loss however it does increase dht which may causes hair loss. I prefer having a solid head of hair at 40 so I stopped, although I maintain my gym goals just without the creatine .
If you noticed excessive shedding that means you’re going to bald anyways. You ain’t having a full head of hair at 40
Sounds like it's more genetic tbh
Same thing happened to me.
Were you hydrating adequately?
Thanks!
Don't do it

I remember taking creatine 15 years ago, I felt stronger for sure, I remember playing football with my mates and noticing I could kick the ball stronger than usual. But I also felt a burning eye sensation througout the day, not sure if it was dehydration but I felt I should stop. Let's face it, the body is more sofisticated than anything we can build or imagine, it has the ability to sustain life, do you really think the body is supposed to need any modern supplement or pill?
This is very interesting. I will try this and what caught my attention is the atp, anti inflammatory and helping with pain!! Can’t wait to try.
Yes I know a shitton but not sharing with your internet scum
Thanks for the creatine info. I really appreciate your delivery.
Ikr - I have a long list of supplements I could be taking for one thing or another. But this does sound like a good one though.
Just eat meat.
@@olderandwiser127
Eating lots of meat and dairy foods increases blood pressure and cholesterol and can lead heart disease and stroke. People who eat a lot of red meat have a higher risk of developing inflammatory arthritis. Milk products have also been shown to worsen symptoms in some.
Great question! I hope he’ll answer since I’m on the same boat as you.
@@olderandwiser127 Well that's one way to fast track to a lot of diseases. With a history of heart disease in our family I certainly steer clear of eating a lot of red meat. What a boring meal plan that would be anyway, meat only. Wouldn't do much to get my tastebuds going for sure.
I’m 50 now. I want to take it but afraid of side effects. I have high bp, cholesterol, verge of high sugar, 100 fasting. Have had hepatitis c etc so impaired liver. Full set of hair, few patches though. Want to take it for cognitive reasons too
I wish I could take creatine, but my eGFR ranges between 58- 67, (stage 1 kidney diaease) way to low for a young guy.
You can
@@thelarson1000 no I can’t. You are dispensing advice that could harm my well-being, it could be harmful to my health. I’m reporting you to RUclips, but first I will give you the chance to delete your post.
@@mudwiser1391yea u shouldn't take
I am thinking to avoid creatine as I have family male baldness pattern
Furthermore, the notion that creatine causes cramping may not be supported by evidence:
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7871530/
I forgot to mention that some of the concern over the high Creatinine (155) was that I have been on Mobic (15mg) for years (I take one every 3-4 days and for sure not daily). My PCP was reluctant to renew the Mobic with the high Creatinine level which is why she sent me to the Nephrologist who ordered a renal function panel that showed no problems. I have not reduced the Mobic and the Creatinine level is back down to 115.
Magnesium is good for crampings
A super, informative video, many thanks for posting.
Good video. I did notice that Creatine seems to have some of the same benefits as Methylene Blue, and they both increase ATP. Perhaps that is the mechanism behind all of their benefits?
water retention, you might enjoy ATP way more with beta alnine from prewokout

@@XeLRUclips sorry bro, your comments are (mostly) incomprehensible
Sorry, I am questioning the claims as kidney disease results in a higher creatin level and I didn't experience these effects. It is possible that being poisoned by other effects of a failing kidney may have neutralized the benefits.
Can Creatine cause hair loss?
No
I have a double jointed thumb and the past 9 months it was given me grief.
Is there proof if this?
Dr Childs, are these benefits seen just with monohydrate or also with the Kre-alkalyn form? I've been taking the kre-alkalyn form bc I read it is buffered and is supposed to be absorbed into the cell better and also prevent water retention and gi issues. But I don't think I've gotten a u cognitive benefits. Does kre-alkalyn not have the same benefits as monohydrate?
Thank you for this amazing video.
Started taking creatine regularly last 2 months. In the same time I saw my pull ups go from about 24 to 25 to 30 just today. I train same muscles about 2x a week fairly consistently.

5 grams of Creatine daily for 5 to 7 days IS the loading dose. With 2 to 3 grams daily being the maintenance dose thereafter.
No it isn’t. Loading dose is 20 grams a day for a week, 3-5 grams afterwards. Full saturation doesn’t come after 35 grams taken. 5 grams daily will get you fully saturated in a month.
It can sensitize the respiratory system to allergens in asthma and allergy patients
It also helps a lot with Long Covid muscle ache, presumably through increased ATP conversion as well as anti inflammatory effect
Thank you for a well delivered view.
what happens if a Hashmito patient takes creatine it is very interesting that ı took creatine today and ı feel less good than before , and ı think creatine boosted the effect of thyroid pill so ı am planning to not take the thyroid pill tomorrow to balance my thyroid
Excellent information!! Love creatine!!💪🙏😊
The dye used for angio and cardiac surgery can interfere with high levels of creatine and cause dysfuntion in the kidneys and even kidney failure. This has happened within our family
I’m 84 yo and very flabby. Can I take it without exercising a lot, like daily walks around the block?
I was big into creatine and it helped a lot during some loading seasons. Just be careful with it, I ended up developing kidney stones and had some very rough complications. Be sure to take care of your kidneys and POUND water
Can't find a single study that shows an increase in kidney stone occurrence due to creatine use. Not even a study that tested individuals that were predisposed to have kidney stones. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9585689/
Were you taking high amounts? Not enough water? Curious how to avoid that.

@jillf24: Thanks for sharing your story. This is good information to be aware of!
I just got my bloodwork yesterday and it said the same. Liver enzymes 74, Kidney eGFR 44!! I was like holy s**t!!
Yeah had this too. Another bloodtest next month so I can finally convince my doctor it's because of the creatine
Maybe a good idea to mention to Dr what supplements your taking when getting blood work?
Sigh
