6 PROVEN Benefits of Creatine (Depression, Autoimmune Disease, Weight Loss & More)

  • Creatine is an incredibly cheap and effective supplement that doesn't get the attention it deserves. Sure, it's well known in the field of bodybuilding but there are a lot of reasons that just about everyone should consider taking this over-the-counter supplement.
Here are 6 studied reasons why you may want to use it:
    1. Creatine helps build muscle mass and improves body composition (weight loss). By virtue of its impact on lean muscle mass, creatine can help you lose weight when combined with diet and exercise.
    2. Creatine makes your bones stronger. Studies have shown that regular use of creatine improves bone density in post-menopausal women.
    3. Creatine provides neuroprotective benefits. Daily use of creatine can help treat mild depression and protect the brian from inflammation.
    4. Creatine acts as an anti-inflammatory agent. Creatine may be as strong as NSAIDs at reducing inflammation.
    5. Creatine positively impacts the innate immune system. Creatine can be used to alter the innate immune system which means it may be effective at treating autoimmune diseases like Hashimoto's and rheumatoid arthritis.
    6. Creatine improves skin health and may act to slow down the aging of the skin. Topical creatine can help reduce wrinkles and oral creatine can help protect the skin from UV damage!
The ideal dose of creatine is 5 grams taken each day with a glass of water. The best formulation to use is creatine monohydrate.
There's no need to load up with a higher dose as your muscles will reach saturation of creatine within a few weeks of daily use at the 5-gram dose.
If you want to get it into your system faster you can load up with 10-15 grams per day.

I am 70 years old andI was diagnosed with Parkinson's around three years ago. I researched and found a couple of studies that showed the "potential" for benefits to be had from creatine for people with this condition so I started supplementing at 5g per day. I also started resistance training to improve my "robustness" and hopefully limit the potential from injury from falls.
In the past three years I've lost bodyfat and gained significant amounts of muscle (my biceps went from 13.5 inches to 15 inches). My tremors have hardly worsened at all and I feel quite mentally agile and functional. When I do fall I don't break... I just bounce! Fantastic.
I noticed none of the supposed side-effects such as bloat, gastric discomfort etc.
    Maybe I should be a poster-boy for creatine 🙂

I'm 60. Worked out my whole life. When younger worked out pretty stupidly. Always heavy (for me). Never did juice, but did creatine. Certainly helped put on strength. Now with two shoulder replacements, forcing me to do more band and bodyweight work, I never thought about going back to DB work (outside of arm work). I started creatine again and started doing some free weight work. Used to love heavy DB bench and incline bench work. Used to do 120's for 5-6 reps. Yes, this was 20+ years ago and prior to the shoulder mess. Well, I started slowly and used 40 lb. DB's for inclines. I hadn't done them in quite some time so I was apprehensive. Over a few months, I decided to go for the heaviest ones (75 lbs). Can you tell I train at a Planet FItness? 😂 Anyway, I only decided to try 6 reps just to get the feel. Did it w/o a ton of strain. Now at 10 reps and at last workout may have been able to eek out one or two more. I know that may sound wimpy to many, especially when I could do 105's for 10-12 back in the day, but given age and shoulder condition, I'm pretty happy. I have no doubt creatine has played a big part in helping me get the mindset to return to free weights.
Still really do love band work though. Not as easy as many may think.

Creatine can make you sick if you have Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, which is an inflammatory disorder. I know from experience. MCAS is similar to autoimmune in that it can make you have terrible reactions to all of the things that should be good for you, or that you actually need to heal from it. That’s a rough analogy. It’s pretty obscure, so I’m only posting this in case someone reading might be having bizarre reactions to healthy things, maybe including Creatine. Look into it. It’s a very gnarly thing to have but you can get out of it. Actually: I’m sure there are a number of health conditions that could make someone react badly to Creatine.

In theory, would Collagen + L Glutamine + Creatine all synergize together or would there be a reason not to take those together? • @darixulx5349

I am not a doctor. Though I can give some insight! Collagen, L-glutamine, and creatine all have different mechanisms of action, but they can work synergistically to support skin health, immune function, wound healing, gut health, and reduce inflammation.
In theory, these supplements could have some synergistic effects, particularly when it comes to supporting gut and skin health. However, the research on these supplements is still limited, and their combined effects have not been thoroughly studied. It is essential to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement regimen, especially if you have a pre-existing condition or are taking medication.
There is no known reason why these three supplements cannot be taken together, and in fact, they may work synergistically to support the body.

Pretty much everyday.. My other activity is Twitter, and other social media to the point of excess. This has given me what others might call brain fog. Cutting it down barely helps. So I started taking Methylene Blue that really helped and I averted something like panic. (last series session 4 drops twice a day) with wonderful results. However, I noticed that while Creatine had reduced by blood pressure to where I did not need to take meds & keep my prediabetes in check also with out taking Metformin or Berberine. Taking Methylene Blue has raised by Blood pressure to where i need to take meds and having to take Berberine to keep sugar in check. I started taking creatine 3 years ago when I started lifting weights again at 58.
It helped me do deadlifts and squats ( exercises i never did before because i was afraid to) and it helped me have the energy to get two more reps in all the different exercises i did.
Two reps makes a lot of difference when you push yourself to get that last excruciating rep to break down micro tears to build muscle.
In the end of the year I squated 400 lbs and deadlifted 400 lbs without a weight belt.
I lost about 45 lbs thru keto, weights lifting, yoga and walking on the treadmill.
When I started working, i stopped working out.
Three weeks ago, I was 260 lbs, could hardly walk a few steps without gasping for air.
Today at almost 61 years old, I'm back on keto (😢 cheating alot) started creatine yesterday and saw my lifting energy sky rocket. Lifted 3 hours easy waiting 3 minutes between sets to let the atp build up after set.
I deadlifted 320 lbs and used 18 45 pound plates on the leg press machine.
Creatine gives you that extra energy for two more reps, which leads to better muscle work out, which leads to more strength and keeping muscle mass.
My suicidal ideations are less after my workout because I feel like I've done something.
I'm homeless and live in my car 23 hours a day.
3 weeks ago I decided to try to change that.
Still not great, but my mental pain and physical pain was worse 3 weeks ago.
I hope everyone's journey to better mental health and physical health goes in a positive direction.
Truly, I would rather not be here, but if I'm in this world, I want to be as healthy as possible.
    God bless,
    Leo✌️
Edit: creatine was $8 a 15 oz plastic container, nothing in the creatine has changed, but the price is $27 now for the same jar. So I guess that enough people saw the benefits to drive the price up more that 3 time than it was 3 years ago.
    Crazy.

I LOVED taking creatine and I got really good results. I never even loaded either. I just did a small dose every day , but there was a problem. I was getting really tired throughout the day , like I had no energy. I stopped taking the creatine and I was fine. Thought it as a coincidence, started taking it again and of course I was getting tired again . So I stopped for good. Anyone else have this issue?

Initially, I had good results taking it. The pain in my knee was no longer an issue and my flexibility improved. Then the fatigue along with the frequent urination issues at night became a problem. When I stopped the creatine, the side effects disappeared. It's not for everyone.

Week 3 update. Soreness is still much less than b4 Creatine. Are my sets and sessions getting easier? Short answer yes. One reason started taking Creatine was I began hitting a plateau. On Fridays I raise my reps or the weight on my sets. I had reached a point where I was only increasing maybe half my exercises. Last week I increased all for the first time since in a couple of weeks and this week I did so again, some even 2 or 3 reps.
I gained about 3 pounds from 166 to 169. The mirror test says I got little bit bigger most noticeable in the arms. So far I would say I’m pleased with the results.

just don't forget to program in a deloading phase (intensity), in your workout shedule, every 6 to 8 weeks, keep it up :)

Omg thank you so much this video because I needed. I suffer from thyroid, RA, depression, anxiety. The skin on my arms is really loose. Also the meds messed up my intestines, bleed and it made my hemorrhoids so bad 😢. Thank you so much🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽

I haven't seen you since CGCC. You're the first person from my childhood that I've seen on RUclips, or television. I never mentioned it in the 90s or the 00s the few times I talked to you but I had a pediatrician with the last name Childs as well. It would be super weird if you were related to that guy. I remember 20 years ago some guy in a supplement store in Chandler told me that I shouldn't take creatine, but I'm going to hear you out in this video.

Hi doc….I enjoyed your video. Just wondering how this supplement might affect the kidneys. I am 60 yrs. old and only have one kidney. I want to know how safe it would be for me to take creatine since it seems to have so many benefits? Thanks!

I started on it at the 5g/day dose and noticed improvements in energy and strength. On the negative side, I noticed significant cramping of major muscles, mostly legs and a 3-5% weight gain. A concerning negative however was an increase in Creatinine in a routine blood test. (Normal for me was 115 , but with Creatine, it went to 155. I was referred to a nephrologist who instructed me to stop Creatine. I did and my Creatine level dropped back to 115. Cramping stopped also. I started again with 2g/day and haven't yet tested my Creatine level but will soon. The cramping has returned but is mild. Since I feel fine I plan to continue to use the Supplement even if the Creatinine level goes up a bit. Are you aware of any harm to kidneys for those using Creatine with a rise above 120 on Creatinine test? I'm age 76.

    • @Laughlvn
      @Laughlvn Год назад +8

Of course you get higher creatinine levels while on creatine.
It's not the creatinine that harms the kidneys, it's that raised levels can in certain circumstances be an indicator of renal insufficiency. I.e. your doctor should definitely not recommend you getting off creatine for no other reason than because you have higher creatinine levels.
If your doctor doesn't get this, they should find another job.

I tend to agree with Lauglvn, but then my knowledge is limited and I'm not a doctor. Did yours indicate what problems are actually _caused_ by elevated creatinine levels?

Furthermore, the notion that creatine causes cramping may not be supported by evidence:

I forgot to mention that some of the concern over the high Creatinine (155) was that I have been on Mobic (15mg) for years (I take one every 3-4 days and for sure not daily). My PCP was reluctant to renew the Mobic with the high Creatinine level which is why she sent me to the Nephrologist who ordered a renal function panel that showed no problems. I have not reduced the Mobic and the Creatinine level is back down to 115.

The dye used for angio and cardiac surgery can interfere with high levels of creatine and cause dysfuntion in the kidneys and even kidney failure. This has happened within our family
