    Wonderfully helpful video for me. At , 70 I've just started weight training for the first time, in part, because of your very helpful youtube videos. I came to your videos because of my osteoporosis and knew nothing about creatine. I'm going to order my first jar now and will see what happens to muscle strength and brain health.
    My mother died at 101 two years ago after surviving a decade of dementia. No one wants that. A personal experiment with creatine is just what I need,

It seems difficult sometimes that I missed so much of my life, and now I see that life is short. So, it's so important that I keep powerful mental practices and now exercise.

    My brother was diagnosed with Lewy Body dementia a year ago. Doing very well so far and very good to do exercise. I’ll send this and hope he’ll add creatine! I take it and my kidney function was a little off so informed my doc she said next draw stay off for a few days before. Broke my femur (bad break) 4 years ago age 67 and my leg just never came back in spite of much rehab. No more biking, hiking, even working in the yard is difficult. Don’t fall ladies, it really can drastically change your life. Dr. Susan if you read this and don’t mind my unrelated question, I’m on an estrogen patch and the pharmacy only gave me half the 100mg progesterone and no refill for a month. Can I be off progesterone for a month with no risk of cancer? I’m going to have doc up my estrogen dose as level came back 47 and a bone doc on RUclips Dr Doug show says at least 60 to protect bones. It was 550 on the biest - had doc change me to patch since you said slightly higher risk of stroke with oral if older. I’ll tell ya it’s amazing what we can learn from experts on RUclips and then take that to our doctors. Thank you for all your great content!

      It's water retention that solely goes into the muscles. It's not fat... It's how the muscles stay hydrated enough to grow. You need to drink a lot of water while taking it to prevent dehydration.

I have been weight lifting and strength training and eating a high protein diet trying to work on rebuilding my muscles because IV chemo and the chemo pills I’ve been on for the past 5 years have destroyed any muscle tissue I may have had! I went in for my 2 month screening at the oncologist and my creatin was 2.0! I read up on it and it pointed to creatine so I dropped it from my diet and went back in after a week and rechecked and I was at 1.2 creatin. I’ve always drank a gallon of water daily. What’s going on? I was only taking 5gr a day. I’m so upset that I’m currently off creatine

    • @drsusan
      @drsusan  2 месяца назад +8

      Creatine is passed through your kidneys as creatinine (different ) . The doctor may not understand that you are taking the supplements and so they are reading the creatinine suggesting that there's something wrong with your kidneys with that is not incorrect because it's simply reflecting how much creatine you are passing in your system.
      Creatinine will always be higher in patients who are taking creatine. It doesn't mean their kidney function is failing. It just means they're passing it through their kidneys.
      Many doctors don't understand this so you may need to explain it to them at least tell them that you're taking creatine and that is naturally going to elevate your creatinine. There's a lot of misunderstanding and like a education amongst physicians on this issue and it is absolutely not linked to kidney or liver failure that has been shown in countless studies.

      Everybody is different and that is not a common set of symptoms, but certainly it's not for everybody so the research supports that for the average person it's very beneficial and most people would not have any of those side effects. I bought the same thorn product and started taking it a few weeks ago, and noticed that my body had a significant change in body odor in a bad way. I stopped taking it, and the odor went away. It was a very sour smell and because a couple months ago, I really started lifting heavier weights. I was really, excited about trying creatine, but this odor is not something I can tolerate and I’m sure the people that are working around me can’t either. Have you heard of this? Is there anything you think I might be able to do to off set it?

    • @drsusan

      That's hard to explain, but everybody is different. We can also develop a body odor when we start working out more because it elevates our testosterone so they might be a number of different factors that play, but cannot deny your own experience.!

      Sorry Dolores but I eat beef DAILY, I’m animal based and low carb and without HRT, which I’m on now, animal based did nothing for my muscles. In fact, until I started HRT, I was losing muscle. And as my doctor told me, my testosterone is still too low,& he just increased it, because diet will NOT fix your hormones, contrary to what the carnivore community says. The truth is that if you’re post menopausal and over 60 you need HRT, and yes you do need creatinine, and to lift weights as well.
