For those who don't know, it's basically a bunch of words/letters that sound latin, but don't actually mean anything. It's used in design software for when you want something to look like it has words on it, but don't want to write said words (like a newspaper from a distance).

Man this is so surreal. The developers of this game used a software called "Manga Maker Comipo!" which I'm intimately familiar with, and just seeing them use all the template characters in the game just gave me weird, but oddly wholesome, vibes.
I used it a lot too. Hopefully, you do a better job of it that these guys did.
i make visual novels in renpy occasionally and seeing how painfully default the UI was at times but also oddly, detailed and customized at other times is also surreal lol
it's like seeing a game made in RPG maker when you know that program.

This super feels like a group of friends from an extremely obscure subreddit decided to make a game with themselves as the main characters. In a way, it's actually really sweet and wholesome.
This is actually russian manga translator group "cheeza" i think they already stopped their work and this game was made just for funsies.All of the characters are them!
Pretty sure what they actually are is independent scanlators. Read a LOT of unofficial translations back in the day.
This is a game clearly made by someone who does unofficial translations and is clearly passionate about it.
Holy shit yes, I was not ecpecting the hundreds of hours of my mispent youth to come back to haunt me this day. I feel like the concept of scanlations are just one of those internet obscurities that I never expected to see in a mainstream youtube video, especially since it's something from my past I never thought to process in a meaningful way lol. It's fantastic.
This is absolutely a scanlator sim. Like Arin said, in the official world, the pages are already provided for you, although the quality/extent of cleaning varies depending on the publisher you're working with. As far as procedures go, there's not a whole lot that's different between scanlation and official translation. Of course, with official translations, you get better proofreaders as well as Japanese proofreaders, but you're also CONSTANTLY getting the manuscript sent back for more touch-ups because there's one pixel that's not properly aligned or one phrase that the publisher didn't like...

They are likely trying to compete with other fan translations doing scans before the digital release of the manga is published or this is quite possibly referencing an older method of uploading digital scans of manga on the internet before digital media was quite as pronounced i.e. 15-20 years ago.

Because of how incredibly good it is I always forget that DDLC was made with a popular visual novel maker. The fact that this game's UI is the same threw me off for a bit.
The neat thing about broken/mistranslated english is that you can kinda tell what region of the world it is from because each language has a unique brand of how they mess it up XD

honestly? I kinda get this one. in the 'scanlating' sphere, there are people who have begun to use machine translations, without any underlying knowledge of the language, to make a quick buck off of translation commissions.

honestly loved it when they were explaining things about scanlations. I've read many manga and manhwa from independent groups and this feels nostalgic. I could point out the mistakes in the scanning aswell since i've read many badly scanned manga.

this game feels like a guy who just really knows a lot about and loves manga translation and just wanted to share his love and tell everyone about it but he knew they wouldn't be that interested if he wrote a book or something so he made a game instead. it's a lovingly made tutorial teaching game!
Right! It's actually quite informative, easy to understand for anybody who doesn't know what the process is like.
it really helps teach new and aspiring translators to look out for floating people wearing red shoes!
