The summary of this game is: writer with seasonal depression and christmas trauma writes corrupt, loan shark, pyramid scheming Santa inside a child's body who took advantage of children for profit, who eats Rudolph and heckles a child about their hopes and dreams being taken away, mixed with the language confusion of Kitty Love. And that's it. It's weird, it crosses lines I didnt even know existed, and sucks all the magic out of Christmas, ironically somehow.
Oh, and there's almost a protest outside a city hall.

I think the actual idea was that Santa lends out hopes and dreams, and fulfilling those hopes and dreams inspires others, paying back your debt in the process. Main character lost his hopes and dreams, thus is in 'inspiration debt' and is required to inspire 13 others. Her saying "Hopefully i'll have more help next year" and also the increasing number of people he is required to inspire each year sort of implies that she's training him to become the next santa clause.
I think that is the intended plot, but it's hard to tell. Also this game is hot garbage and I don't know why I wasted time deconstructing it. Happy Holidays.

Somehow they're both questioning everything and also not nearly questioning enough
I typically only have time to "watch" game grumps while I'm driving, so I treat it more as a podcast. Not always great when sometimes they play games that you have to watch in order to get the most out of their commentary, but whenever they do one of these dating sim types it's great. This time though I honestly can't tell when they're making a joke or reading directly from the game. That was a very long winded way to say this is a fucking weird game.

I can't believe this was voice-acted. That poor voice actress probably read it and just kept repeating to herself, "It's a paycheck. It's a paycheck. It's a paycheck."
This game still triggers me whenever I see someone do a playthrough of it.
I'm the initial translator of this game and I did a fairly decent job at it as one of my first official translation projects (I still have the excel with the entire script). However, Tales# (the developers) apparently handed my translation over to someone who isn't actually a native English speaker to "edit" it and almost every single grammar mistake you see in it now was done by that person.
I'm not going to say that I did a perfect job with flawless grammar, since I noticed a couple of minor mistakes a few years later, but it was at least coherent. The "editor" changed so many lines to flat out make no sense. I tried to reach out to the developer, but that didn't work.
It really sucks that I can't even direct people to this as one of my projects cause of how broken the English is in it.

I would love to see what the script for this game could have been.

@@Superboologan1 It's a bit hard to give an exact point of the story. Christmas is a concept that's mostly known as a "day to go on a date" for most asian countries. Albeit the idea of Santa Claus and doing good things to receive presents is still taught to children.
This story is tagged as a "healing" story. A nonsensical story about a guy who isn't a child anymore and sees no joy in Christmas since it's a romantic holiday in South Korea. So it's like you're being healed by the presence of this weird but cute girl with an extra lesson of being hopeful about your future again.

I. . . think I understand it:
The idea is in this universe, Santa is a race, sorta like fairies. Similar to how some people believe there are alot of tooth fairies. In this iteration they (the santas) don't give "presents", they give you hopes, dreams, positivity (so basically nice emotions and mental stuff). Because it's all mental stuff, they are. . . maybe kinda like illusionist or something and that's why "the christmas spirit" is "shapeless"/"formless", sorta like the ghost of Christmas. The Santa people's physical form is defined by the what makes sense from the eye of the beholder. So when you think of a person wearing a schoolgirl uniform, to you, what would they look like? A highschool girl. I think that's why santa looks like that, so they don't die from old age.
As for the santas' "business model", I think those emotions and mental stuff is a currency and/or a food source (sustenance). The message is they (the santas) jump start a childs ability to have, make, and give hope and then the kids become the factories to give other people hope instead of the santas doing it themselves. It's basically "Pass the Buck" mentality. Sorta like "share the love" but in a Christmas spirit kind of sense. Us, the player's, only dream is for the snow to not go away. . . in this universe, it only snows on Christmas Day and it only remains on the ground for 24 hours. . . thus making it the "fantastic day".
You only have 1 day a year for the best day ever, so make it count and make santa's job easier by spreading the merry feeling and joy. In that sense. . . even if it is kinda garbage ( and believe me, it *IS* ), it still is a nice sentiment.
This game was a big step for AI automated narrative development. Machines are getting better at writing stories. Too bad they also use those bots to leave 100s of fake artificial reviews by that AI. Valve should really crack down on that like youtube does on VIEWBotting.

This game has NO WHERE near enough effort for you to think it has more than one person involved in the developement. . . but when you read the reviews, all of them share the same dialect as the game. . . but there is ALOT of reviews, way too many for it to be all typed out in advanced by the same guy. . . unless that guy is. . . artificial.
It's mostly a joke but you honestly could never know. It WOULD be the easiest way to install spyware onto a users PC.

Call me old fashioned but games require gameplay, and reading books isn't playing a game imo. Turning a page isn't interaction, whether it be flipping paper or clicking a sentence on a screen. And it must be possible to lose, the only way that happens with a book is if you just refuse to keep reading.
