I got more than half way through this video and I heard him say “2016” (it’s 3/2019 at the time of this post). I literally had to stop and go see the publish date to make certain that I heard him correctly. This is an EXCELLENTLY done video and still incredibly relevant nearly 3 years later! Great work, man! Well done!
Highly informative compressed facts, perfect for people who wants the perfect monitor but doesn't want to study all the available technologies. Very (!) rare type of video on youtube. Thanks
Within the first 5 minutes, you've helped answer my most pressing questions. I have a 40" display at 1080p but as you can imagine, various scenes in gaming look pixelated. Thus, I've decided to purchase a 24" at 1080p to help get clearer and sharper images during gaming.
I just purchased a new gaming computer and was trying to figure out what kind of monitor I should upgrade to - your video was extremely helpful. Thanks a lot!
Absolute perfect vid. A lot of other tech youtubers could learn from this. Never boring and I actually learned some stuff and now know what to look for in monitors.
Many monitors have got a native reso of 1920 x 1080 but it's unwatchable on my typical 24" monitor because games and everything else are too small and I go cross-eyed, so I have to use 1360 x 768 which is much easier on the eyes. Question- why are mons made with 1920 x 1080 if that reso is so friggin unwatchable?
Its just you,i have a 24inch 1ms 60hz full hd samsung monitor and it still rocks,i mean i'm fine in games with it,but with my new 3k euro rig knocking on the door i will get a new quad hd TN monitor with g sync and all those other good features,my only problem is with what producer to work with....
When I found this video, I thought: "Oh, one more boring long 14min video", but it was so informative, accurate and it was as compact as possible. All we need to know in short, understandable way. Love it. Thanks
Al Catraz No it is never about TN or ms, i can't notice a damn difference... the problem is being the 4K monitor too damn big! words get super super small! it is like controlling my pc on a Movie Theater Projectile Screen... it is so not practice for every day uses... a 21.5 inch 1080P is perfect for gaming and everyday uses...barely any difference compared to 1440P and 4K is only for extreme hardcore gamer...
Just doing a quick search on monitors, came across your video here and got everything plus more on what I needed. Exceptional information - first ever subscribe for me! Cheers mate!
the issue with 4K monitors is the refresh rate. 60hz is the max standard (unless you wanna invest >1500€). the compromise: get 2 monitors. 1 creative monitor with 4K, 60hz. you honestly don't need more than 60hz to work creatively - video at >50fps looks like crap. you do need the 4K to work on 4K footage though. and then a gaming monitor, 2k with >144hz.
When I sit at my desk I look directly at the monitor but sometimes I lean back on my chair when I'm watching a video or playing with a gamepad, which puts me below the screen. With a TN it would look bad, or I would have to adjust the. Its not that big of deal really, but good viewing angles are nice. The real reason to get an IPS panel is for the colours
Aaron Barratt I assume the problem is worse with really cheap TNs. My laptop is just terrible for vertical viewing angles, but the TN on my desk (second monitor) is not really that bad for it, so I guess it depends on the panel.
I am a painter and use my monitor for reference photos, so its next to my easel/whatever im painting, so im always at an angle. Getting the dell u2715 h after a year with a tn panel, loooking forwards to it
Thank you. This is an awesome presentation of everything you need to know before buying a new monitor. Very well delivered and a lot of actually pertinent info in a concise package. Less than 15 minutes and I learned more than I did in several hours of watching other videos. I will be watching more of your videos because of the great job you did on this one.
What he says: "...these monitors..."; "...older monitors..."; "...4k monitors..."; What I hear: "monsters, many monster, monsters everywhere". Now I am scared, but the explanation itself was really, really good! Thank you!
Unbelievably helpful. Amazing video, that really cleared everything up for me as far as screen size, and resolution. I recently went from a 970 to a 1080, and I was unsure if a 4k monitor was a good idea. I'm currently using a 1440p monitor.
You just earned your self a sub, extremely helpful video and explained all the key points that I was confused on for which monitor I should buy and what not. Keep it up
GREAT video!! I've been wondering why one of my monitors was dimmer than the others. When I set the response rate to NORMAL instead of FAST, it helped a LOT, as you explained in this. So thank YOU for explaining this kind of stuff!!
Running a Ryzen 1700 with 32GB of 3600Mhz Ram. Corsair m.2 drive and a GTX 1080 TI. My monitor is a 1080P dinosaur. Now it's time to upgrade the monitor :D
Wow, so I just bought my monitor recently (Ultrawide LG 34") but if I had watched this video first, I would have saved myself around 5 hours of research. Really great information, and next time when I upgrade, I'll definitely be coming here first. Subscribed!
Hey. I want to buy a monitor with high refresh rate because i like competitive gameplay, but i also love playing games like the Witcher, kingdom come, etc. Which panel do you recomend me?
The best is of course IPS with high refresh rate but those tend to be very expensive. I myself play the same games and plan to buy a VA panel which seems to be the best for my needs. I recommend you to buy IPS panel or if it’s not in your budget than a VA panel.
Thank you thank you thank you. You save me so much time hunting for reviews and the best from the bunch. I like that you not trying to be funny or talk up to your elbows with irrelevant garbage. You get to the point. I've made my decision a 24" it is.
Damn Dude.... I have seen so many videos on monitors but never watched any for more than 20 secs.. your videos are not boring at all. you dont say crap in ur videos. so precise. keep them that way.
Hello mate nice video! I just ordered the LG 27UK600-W 27''. Do i need to install any drivers? In LG site there are two download files. 1:LG HDR 4K 2:LG HDR 4K_RS3 Should i run those files or not? Thanks!
I really liked the video, maybe it's my english (which is not really perfect yet) but I never heard you telling us what was the size of your main monitor in the video, maybe it was because you are still talking a little bit fast for me (nothing wrong with you, I still need to learn a bit more) the Dell with your youtube channel displayed for all the video length, what size it was?
I am happy with 4K 40" 60Hz VA panel. 120Hz is really no use at 4K because the hardware is not there. I got Ultrawide but really hated when games did not support it. 1440p 144Hz IPS is nice but I want more work space.
Totally agree about Ultrawide, If you are buying it for gaming and you are a big gamer with a big library, You've wasted time and money because there are a lot of games that don't support it as I found out the hard way :( Well I say hard way, I was lucky I could get a full refund.
Mozz Jones My friend bough it and let me test it for 1 week. Was so frustrated how it was not really much of an upgrade for a lot of games from 27 1440p. Extra work space was nice but not $1200 nice. I did not even pay for it. Made him return it lol.
Yeah they do look pretty sweet! I decided to go for the Acer Predator X34, it kinda has everything apart from the 4K. Pricey, but my current monitor is from 2008 and has served me well for 8 years, so I figured it's a good investment! Thanks for the reply!
Thank goodness for this video. I called Samsung's customer service and the person I spoke with was obviously reading the website. He knew no more than I did. I called the store about an IPS option. They told me the correct info, but based on what they too were seeing in the posted specs. I didn't know the difference between IPA and VA based on my convos with them. Your video is very informative.
this video has helped A LOT. i still have some questions though about 4K and 2K. 1- hz vs fps if i get 4K monitor with 60hz will i still be able to see the 120 fps on the 60 hz monitor? or it's not related? 2- for gaming i was planning to get the Samsung 28 inch. but after the video i switched my mind to asus monitors so to get the best quality of pic for my game is 2K 144 hz monitor with 27 inch ? 3- free sync vs g-sync im all about future-proof. so if i decided to go cheaper i will miss the g-sync feature. is it really important? if i dont have will i lose alot of high quality gaming? and thank you so much. and subscribed
1. Hz and FPS are similar, if you have a 60Hz monitor the max amount of fps you can see is 60. So if you have a 144Hz monitor you can see 144fps. 2. By 2k I'm guessing you mean 1440p 144Hz which will give you a really good picture and be really smooth if you have the hardware to handle that. And for the size of the display is really just personal preference. 3. G-sync removes screen tearing and input lag that you might encounter with V-sync. Again it's up to you if it's really worth the extra money, and no it isn't that important so you should be fine with just V-sync
thank you so much for the reply bro. you have altered my descision. since hz and fps are similar. ill wait until 4k 100 or 144 hz is avilable. im fine with my laptop's screen for now. I just heard new 4k screen is about to be released at early 2017. atm im gaming at ultra 2K :).
Amazing video. Was caught up for buying gaming monitor for my xbox one S. This video got me upto speed with all the aspects of selecting the ideal monitor. Thank you for the video.
Most Samsung monitors use their own version of IPS called PLS afaik not VA. I haven't seen very many Samsung VA panels. The only VA panels I have seen for computers mostly come from Iiyama, Asus, Acer, AOC, and BenQ. I think the difference between the three types is mostly TN for gamers and people who want to destroy their eyeballs. IPS for graphic designers, photographers, and people who are pretending to be hiding ET and his glowing belly. And VA panels for Video. It's a shame there are not more VA panel makers. Better technology always seems to be replaced with inferior but cheaper crap.
@@efraimeli5277 IPS/PLS displays have great colour. They are especially good for graphic design and photoshop work and probably the best overall. VA panels are great for video and have better contrast. For gaming many still go for TN for the faster response times and cheaper displays. Samsung PLS are as good as IPS displays from other companies and get great reviews.
Watching this in 2017 Dec and loving it! You keep saying that you might be boring with the details - Def no because the points you mention are still valid and are very important, Thanks!!
Very informative and complete video. I had been trying to choose a monitor. But, was not sure which one to choose. Your video set things straight for me. Thanks.
Yeah, I think he wanted to separate "casual" and "gamers". TBH, 24" seems more of a gamer screen as most high refresh rate monitors won't have higher than 1080p unless you pay a lot extra. And considering most people get the more narrow Ikea desk, or something similar, 27" is too large.
I just got a 27xw HP and its 1080p, and even right next to my 4k XPS 15 it's really not bad. If a 1440p or 4k 27inch isn't in your budget but you're still gaming or want a bigger screen, you won't regret it or anything.
Good job! This is the best monitor guide on youtube that focus on monitor features rather than monitor reviews! Really hope you could do an updated guide as this already 2.5 years old :)

Thanks

Honestly surprised about how informative this video was, thank you. This is exactly what i was looking for.
good to hear!
I wanna buy a a second screen at 1080p just to use DSR to use 4K on it,I've tested it with my Rig and it will work flawlessly.
desi jatt nope only outputs from pcs are supported and the newer consoles but if your using hdmi you'll be fine

This video summarises succinctly what I've spent two days researching about buying a monitor for general creative use and casual gaming :)
Great job getting this video on the internet. So well explained for the consumers.
The entire time I was certain you were saying Martyrs and not monitors.
Yup, me too
Adam Bernstein berenstein bears 🐻 😂
same here. but it's all good.
Hehe
Lol, you know damn good and well he was talking about martyrs.
I recommend 21.5 1080P because it looks the sharpest! And it is not too big nor too small. It is just perfect!
I'm used to 24", and 21" seems already too small for me
+Al Catraz tried a 4K 28" hated at first sight
Al Catraz No it is never about TN or ms, i can't notice a damn difference... the problem is being the 4K monitor too damn big! words get super super small! it is like controlling my pc on a Movie Theater Projectile Screen... it is so not practice for every day uses... a 21.5 inch 1080P is perfect for gaming and everyday uses...barely any difference compared to 1440P and 4K is only for extreme hardcore gamer...

+Al Catraz People just want everything better and better, but 1440P is not better its just bigger, never worth upgrading

+The Greens Wizard glad to hear it helped :)
This guy means business, no effin around right to the point. Thank you!
really enjoyed this. I can now go work at LG as a monitor designer I have that much knowledge.
the issue with 4K monitors is the refresh rate.
I never really understood viewing angle problems, who is using a monitor but not looking at it directly?
When I sit at my desk I look directly at the monitor but sometimes I lean back on my chair when I'm watching a video or playing with a gamepad, which puts me below the screen. With a TN it would look bad, or I would have to adjust the. Its not that big of deal really, but good viewing angles are nice. The real reason to get an IPS panel is for the colours
Delta X I am currently using 3 TN panels and I only get that if I move left and right, they seems to be pretty good vertically.
Aaron Barratt I assume the problem is worse with really cheap TNs. My laptop is just terrible for vertical viewing angles, but the TN on my desk (second monitor) is not really that bad for it, so I guess it depends on the panel.
Delta X yeah, I use a Benq 144hz one, so it is probably one of the better TN panels
I am a painter and use my monitor for reference photos, so its next to my easel/whatever im painting, so im always at an angle. Getting the dell u2715 h after a year with a tn panel, loooking forwards to it

Finally someone who explains it perfectly. I subscribed after watching the video.
What he says: "...these monitors..."; "...older monitors..."; "...4k monitors...";
What I hear: "monsters, many monster, monsters everywhere".

What couldn't you live without on your monitor?
can't belive i suggested more monitor reviews sometime last week and you justdelivered! Glad you had this planned already! :)
What makes you say I didn't plan all this after your comment suggesting more monitor vids!

This is by far the most helpful monitor guide I've seen.
Absolutely perfect video thanks !!
Take a drink every time he says martyr.
I can't help it! :P
Thanks for your videos, very informative helped me a great deal. I'm holding off till early next year to see if DP 1.3 and hdr is around the corner.
Display port is way better now.
Hey. I want to buy a monitor with high refresh rate because i like competitive gameplay, but i also love playing games like the Witcher, kingdom come, etc. Which panel do you recomend me?
Acer and insignia tend to have cheaper monitors. Btw, slickdeals and newegg flash have good deas
I'm not a pro, btw. I'm not an accountant, or economist. I don't even have a business.
The best is of course IPS with high refresh rate but those tend to be very expensive.
I myself play the same games and plan to buy a VA panel which seems to be the best for my needs.
I recommend you to buy IPS panel or if it’s not in your budget than a VA panel.

Do you recommend PLS? Is it good?
@@efraimeli5277 IPS/PLS displays have great colour. They are especially good for graphic design and photoshop work and probably the best overall. VA panels are great for video and have better contrast. For gaming many still go for TN for the faster response times and cheaper displays. Samsung PLS are as good as IPS displays from other companies and get great reviews.
@@viper8177 Thank you very much I appreciate your response.
Thank you pal, this was really informative and easy to follow. Also, you are cute.
Two years down the line but still relevant great informative video
Watching this in 2017 Dec and loving it! You keep saying that you might be boring with the details - Def no because the points you mention are still valid and are very important, Thanks!!
I have a 4k tv but of course its not for gaming and has like 5ms response time and its 65" should i buy a monitor?
You probably won’t notice the few extra ms it’s probably fine unless you want to sit at a desk.
That moment when the video has *4k* likes...
MrSenpaiHD pretty cool!
The Tech Chap That was the fastest reply ever.
watching this in 2018 while waiting for 2080ti to arrive.
The best review I came across in selecting monitors. I have decided to go with 1920*1080 dell professional monitor for my work. Thank you so much.!
Very informative and complete video. I had been trying to choose a monitor. But, was not sure which one to choose. Your video set things straight for me. Thanks.
thanks
The number one rule is NO TN PANNELS
Because he likes backlight bleed on all the ips panels.
Tn panels are much faster.
But i don't understand why is 27" for gamers?
Really hope you could do an updated guide as this already 2.5 years old :)
visa mounted martyr lol
"fo-cking monitor, fo-cking gaming, fo-cking resolution".. i'm just amused. No offense I honestly love British accent. I just heard it differently.
Great video. No one has ever explained it this clearly
Thanks for this video, I've seen so many people trying to explain this. You get it right sir.
