  • The 1500-meter final at the 2012 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, was called the closest finish in NCAA championship meet history - since the NCAA adopted Automatic Timing in 1976. Indiana's Andrew Bayer and BYU's Miles Batty both lunged across the finish line - with Bayer winning the the 1500m race with a time of 3:43.82 - .01 faster than Batty.

Very impressive that Miles Batty ran as fast as he did, all while being a double major in neuroscience, exercise science, and bio physics.

Man some of these old races are just so packed with future pro talent it’s crazy. German Fernandez was probably the greatest talent that never came to fruition.

@@Clift0n probably a combination of over training at a young age, malnourishment, the overwhelming pressure to be the next big thing. Signed with Nike and joined the Bowerman track club. Made a couple US finals but that’s about it

defiinitely one of the most impressive finishes ive seen from the Indianan runner, these two were no slobs and gave it all the effort they had at the finish.

The Indiana runner controlled that race start to finish sitting on the shoulder of the leader. What a great race.

I guess that one of the announcers isn't exactly a math wiz - 1981 was not "21 years ago" in 2012, it was 31 years prior.
