I will admit that he's a faster runner than I am
And everyone else in the world over this distance no shame in that.
Brave
I've never tested myself on two miles, so who knows? :)
@@stuffbenlikes 😭😂😂
😂
Simply difficult to verbalize how incredibly fast that is. 99% of people have mo comprehension how physically and mentally brutal that was!! He finished up looking like he took a stroll in the park!!
@Arid Sohan i once saw him kill a man on a track… With a lactate measurer… With a fucking lactate measurer.
I've run almost my whole life, and the idea of even coming close to a 4 minute mile is impossible to me. This guy is such a beast and an inspiration.
True. Maybe 5% of people can keep up for one lap. Really strong HS 800m runners can keep up for two. Four times that is crazy.
@@tigergold5990 Wayyyyy less than 5% of people could keep up for 1 lap. Maybe 5% of runners. I run a lot and can only run a 400m in like 1:06-1:07.
I know. It's incredible. Back when I was running I could not get close to 4 minutes for 1500m, let alone for a mile. Jakob looks very relaxed and comfortable at 60 seconds per lap pace. I'm sure he'd have a great chance being in this shape to go for the other world records. 3000m and 5000m. And I hope he can get them.
He made that last lap look like he hadn't just ran 1.75 miles already... Simply incredible. Hugely under-promoted performance!
Astonishing performance. He ran the "last" 3000 meters" in 7'22, which is extremely close to Komen's WR for 3k. That record is going to be broken quite soon I think :)
That is truly incredible because the 3000m WR is in the conversation as the toughest one to break!
@@jakkeday1 he breaks that 3000m record then he is the GOAT.
@@venomsymbiote7555 Goat status will be if he gets the 5000m as well. Goat for mid distance
It's not a question of if, but when!
@@alexandermcdonald9029 yeah but let’s be honest here. If he gets that 3000m record the one everyone says is the toughest track record then the 5000m and even the 10000 meters will be a piece of cake for him👍👍
One of if not the greatest performance l've ever witnessed.
Didn't witness that much athletics apparently 😂
@@LEGl1999name a greater performance that you’ve seen.
@@SatoriRunClub For me the best one is when Hicham beats Bekele and Kipchogue at Athens 5000m in
2004.
I cannot believe how this race wasn't promoted more...or at all. Surely, the fact that some chap was trying to run two consecutive sub-4 minute miles and break a 20 odd year old record is worth a bit of media coverage in the build up to the attempt. The BBC coverage was dreadful. It should have been the highlight of the meet but the BBC only showed a brief "highlights of the race" clip. Ridiculous!
true, what a disappointment of BBC
for sure - had to find it on Norwegian TV to watch it live !!
On a similar tack, the women's High Jump used to heavily feature on tv. at these events. The action is now largely ignored!
I just don't get it.. I mean.. See it from the event holders point of view.. You wont get the world lead distance runner, who's the reigning Olympic champ on the 1500's & world champ on the 5 K to to show up on your event for free (Golden league or not), yet alone go for a WR deemed impossible. Logically, the whole purpose of making that kind of an investment, is gaining as much profit as possible from it. And for that to happen, the 'star event' is the one to promote, as well as ensure gets the TV coverage! These guys, on the other hand, appear to have managed to put their biggest star in a side-event.. This just don't make any sense, what so ever!
Did not know that, and I agree 100%.
That was absolutely incredible. He made a sub-8 for 2 miles look SO smooth.
He looked so comfortable as well. Made it look easy.
He was at 4 flat until 800 left and then went 58,56 last two laps. Incredible.
Peter Snell type finish.
Pretty sure the pacer was instructed to maintain minute per lap pace for 5.3 laps and step to the side to see what Jakob had left in the tank.
Absolutely insane
🙄 You figured that out all by yourself, for did you watch the video like the rest of us?
@@cryo9216Not sure what you’re talking about… the comment section of a video is commonly, yknow, ABOUT THE VIDEO. 😅
Wow...that was one of the most impressive T&F performances ever. Seriously.
thanks for the commentary and showing the full race :) btw the blue lights are for pacers and lead the green WaveLights by 10m
Thanks for that. Never actually heard the full explanation of the different colours 👍
think about it this way.
there are people that can do a sub 4-minute mile, which is already INCREDIBLE.
he just did it twice... consecutively, without rest.
His stride and running form are really something to behold.
Perfect stride and form, it looks like he's running 65 or 66 second quarters not 59 seconds
He came across 1st mile in 4:01. 3:53 second mile. Damn. Ridiculously amazing time.
last two laps were amazing!
First mile is 4:00.2. That is the moment he crosses the 1 mile start. Not the end line.
Actually the line was 1 miles + 9 meters. They started 18 meters behind the line. So when they crossed the line it was 1600m (4 laps) + 18 meters.
He was 4 flat at 1st mi
👍
Hope to see much more of Jakob Ingebrigtsen, what an absolute phenomenon. Daniel Komen ran his WR at 3000m at the age of 19, Jakob is now 22. Seeing this performance it’s only a matter of time before he beats the 3000m WR
His plan is to beat several world records in the future. We better watch out!
No ads just power running by Jakob!!!
Thanks!
Unreal. Didn’t think Komen’s WR would go especially by 4 secs. Amazing.
Likely nobody will ever break his 3,000m record, 7:20.
@@jimmason8502 Jakob nearly beat it while running the 2 mile.
My gosh! 4 seconds faster. That was unbelievable.
Jordan dominating basketball, Tyson hitting the heavy bag, Ingebrigtsen demolishing records on the track. There's something satisfying about seeing someone doing something they are just the best at.
Mike tyson is overrated lol😂😂😂, Manny pacquiao better, 8 division champion
Jakob is just so good! What a delight it is to watch him race. Unbelievable effort to smash the WR! Wtg!
Second man under the eight-minute barrier. Hats off to Daniel Komen of Kenya. Hats off to Jacob Ingabritsen
Absoloute legened for getting the full race and then adding your own commentary - Thanks!
the speed impression is phenomenal
Wow! Jakob shatters the quarter of a century record by four seconds and looks soooo relaxed and smooth. I would like to see him run the mile soon to see what he does right now.
Couldn't agree more!
3:43
Winning by over 100 metres in a Diamond League meet is insane. Along with everything else he does
Amazing. Wonderful to see his tichnique, feet not so high in the back, but the speed is so high.... Great job Jakob! Congratulations on so much work, and such a major accomplishement!
His falling forward is so nice to watch
A lot of people would struggle to keep up with him...on their bicycle. That was incredible. A "what just happened" kind of performance.
This performance will be part of the legendary historical races for people in the future. Jakob's combo of speed and endurance make this a perfect distance for him...much easier than breaking that 1500 record will be for him.
I love watching Jakob run. It's incredible how much distance he covers with those long legged strides, no wasted energy.
Thanks for the full race and the Norwegian comments during the race. Well done from Russia and Ukraine!
my commentary is in English - but glad you enjoyed
@@TheRunningShoeGuru he is refering to the background commentary from the Norwegian broadcasters. Did you g’et the fortage via VPN? Thanks for the upload.
@@PeterGtze No, RUclips is acceptable in my country.
Truly remarkable. Plus he is only 22 years old. He is not even at full manhood yet. I can see him running sub 7 50 in the next 2 years. Congratulations to the whole Ingebritsen family, this is definitely a team effort,
Absolutely stunning. He smashed the hell out of the previous 20 year old record. Well done chap!
I really hate to be nitpicky but Kenya's Daniel Komen previously held the title with a 7:58.61 time set on July 19, 1997, so the record was just shy of being held for 26 years.
My wife & I were @ Crystal Palace track many years ago to watch that great 110m hurdler "Skeets" Nehemiah elegantly flow down the straight right in front of us, as well as watching Brendan Foster break the (then) 2 mile WR (or World Best if you must). Memories like that are never forgotten, even though those records are surpassed with the passage of time. I also remember competing against my contemporary Alan Pascoe & years later a very young teenager called Daley Thompson.
Thank you for posting the full race 🙏
Ingebrigsten’s running form looks like the work of thousands of genius exercise physiologists. Its so perfect.
I have a speedometer on my bike. I always try to maintain about 24-25 km/h on my daily commute with my BIKE and that works up a sweat (and I like to think of myself as being quite fit)! Usually there is not a lot of people overtaking me except for sometimes freaks on racebikes.
It's incredible how fast those guys are running. I imagine riding my bike one day quite idly and am taken over by one of those guys on a training RUN 😅
Just fantastic to watch, thank you for uploading! I’m happy if I manage 2 miles in twice the time it took him. Then I look like I’m about to collapse at the end of it, he makes it look effortless!
Thanks for being the only place I can find the full race. Ridiculous how hard it is to find the full race on youtube for a world record. Hate how many channels cut up the longer distance races into "highlights"
Wow! That's a whole different level of running! I'm surprised the track didn't catch fire lol
OMG, he destroyed the field by a margin I don't think I have ever seen. WOW. There was a time not long ago when it was believed that humans couldn't break the 4 minute barrier and this dude did TWO miles in well below 4 minute pace.
I ran against a guy in high school who, in a postal meet, ran a 4:02 mile and an 8:53 two mile. His name was Rich Kimball. At the time, he was one of the fastest runners in California. To think this guy did two miles in 7:54 is mind boggling. Bravo.
You made me look up "postal meet". Had never heard that term and I graduated HS in '91. Cool, learned something new!
LOL.
You cant compare a high school student with some pro runner.
Its like saying you gets impressed by some guy in high school doing 11 seconds in 100m and then compare that to pro athletes that does under 10.
@@josefinandersson7646 Sadly, you don't know what you're talking about.
@@music4dagesShe does. Her comparsion was quite accurate.
@@Vivungisport Are you or have you ever been a competitive runner? If so, I would be interested to know your run times and events. To be sure, my comment was spot on. Exhibit A was Steve Prefontaine. His high scool two mile times evidenced a capacity to run even faster. Had Kimball not gotten injured he would have probably come close to running an 8 minute two mile.
Thanks for sharing and for your spot on yet relaxed commentaries
Glad you enjoyed
Thank you for posting and sharing this epic breakthrough of pushing the boundaries with running - literally history in the making. So incredible. Go, Jakob!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I am so frikkin impressed!! First mile at 4min flat, then 2nd mile 3:54???? JUST WOW!!
Thank you for posting the whole race!
Wow... G.O.A.T. performance...!
Controlled chaos at its finest. Absolutely bananas.
Haven't seen the lights before... so interesting, and I definitely think that having a visible pace right there is going to continuously lead to records.
Big J taking it to a new level. Congratulations!
that is just ridiculous! He's running the last lap way faster than i can sprint the first 10m, wow just crazy
That is absolutely astounding-way to go 🏃♂️🙏🏻👍😎
Did Komen have pacers? I know he didn't have the lights or other tech. Still, this record was emphatic. Jacob wasn't even fully gassed at the end. Superhuman oxygen supply machine.
No Komen didn't have Pacers, he actually was running so fast that the commentators were laughing believing he wouldn't last the distance at the his pace , but proved them wrong..
@@rayfreeth5156 you’re talking about his 3000 world record. That’s when the commentators were laughing at the pace he was going out at. Though idk if he had pacers for the 2 mile WR either.
@@FascinateNonExoticKeepers Komen was just an absolute machine. So was Haile back then. The Gebrselassie-Komen races in Zurich in 1996 and 1997 were just magical. Especially 1997, where Gebrselassie did to Komen exactly what Komen had done the previous year, except running faster and setting a WR.
Excellent thank you for the footage
I've heard people say numerous times that Komen's 7:58.61 was a "soft" record. Really? No one (many great runners including Geb) ever came close to it, or really to 8 minutes (Geb closest at 8:01, also more than 20 years ago). But what makes this record so astonishing is how far ahead of all the other world class runners Jakob was. What that says to me is that he is in a class alone.
It was a soft record...
@@BakangSerame really? Komen had two pacers in his race but no wavelight technology, nor the added performance advantage of a bouncy Mondo track or carbon shoes. The latter by the way, can be a second per lap for an efficient runner like Jakob.
@@BakangSerame If it is a soft record then why were the other world class runners so far behind him, and why has no one else other than Komen ever broke 8 minutes? The only other records that look harder to me are Komen's 7:20.67 for 3000m and maybe El Geroujj's 3:26.00 for 1500?
It was an amazing record for its time, but I think it was quite outdated and multiple people could have done it over the years. I mean Joshua Cheptegei could have for sure cuz he ran 3!! 4:01 miles in a row a couple years ago. No one really runs 2 mile race though that’s why it stood for so long.
At the end it looked more like is was running the 800m.
Excellent display of running!
Great pacemaker
He is a combination of mo farah, hachim el gerreou and ken bekele he can stay at the back and kick at the end or he can burst right and away and leave dusts behind the pacers to break records he is a unicorn!
People don't realize how fast these guys are going. The average 18 year old can't sprint that fast.
The average 18yo is slow as fuck.
I bet the average 18yo that runs at least once a week can sprint faster than his pace
Many people don't realize how incredible fast this is. It's 14.7seconds per 100m, which 99.999% of regular people can't do sprinting at their maximum. Just think about that, you cannot keep the pace with these guys running flat out not even for 100m. Incredible!
So he has run 32 x 14.7 seconds 100 metres one after another, non stop. He is super human.
Hisham is running 14.1 for 100m in WR 1500m.
Then i ask myself what is his 100m Sprint time? I mean he probably can go faster.
Percentage looks a bit off
That 99.999% isn't right. I'm slower in a sprint than many people I know who don't even do athletics and I can run under 14s.
Gracias por poder ver la carrera completa, es un privilegio ver correr a este portento de Jakov.
Brilliant form! Outstanding young man.
Awesome race and runner. This is very unbelievable hard to run under 8 minute for any two mile ran.
I took 100m splits of his last lap:
14.1
13.8
13.7
13.9
~55.6
After SEVEN laps of sub-60 pace he did that.
That's about as fast as I sprint😂 Maybe a few milliseconds slower, but not too much slower, since I sprint 13.4-13.5
I ran two miles in 9:55 when I was 18 years old (now 62). I was very proud of myself. I think he would have come close to lapping me twice (LOL).
9:55 is good even today. How many percent of the population will ever touch that?
I aim to run a sub 3 km next year. And will try to stabilize that time, ,,hopefully for decades.😊
Bill….. 9:55 is a fine time. It is fast! When you can appreciate the talent and dedication it takes to run that….. it makes sub 8 minutes mind blowing! I can only dream….
9:55 is blazing fast, that would get you first in our middle school XC meets by about a minute and a half. Right now I can only manage an 11:48 😂 Although that was a split time in our high school races, I could probably manage sub 11:30 if I went all out
Teach me your ways please
My fastest 2 mile was like 11:08 as junior in high school
Great job with the commentary and the video overall.
Much appreciated!
He only keep getting better and better
Thank u been looking for some time to find it
UNBELIEVABLE RUN
I guess Komen still the only man running 2 consecutive sub 4 miles since Jakob passed 1 Mi at 4:00.3 but oh boy He ran sub 3:55 second mile.
3:54
Excellent commentary.
Glad you enjoyed it
2x average of 3:57 is insane
Reminds me of Sebastian Coe, makes it looks so easy.
He slowed down at the end too... crazy
He should have dashed it maybe reducing by a split second.
I know it's twice the distance, but it gives perspective as it's roughly the same pace as Roger Bannister's 4 minute mile ~70 years ago.
Its a hell of a lot faster , Roger was barely under 4 minutes. At 7.54 for 2 miles that's 3.57 which is a lot faster.
@@zbigniewczaykowski514That's an average pace. Which is still ridiculously fast, although his fastest mile split was 3:53 on the 2nd mile.
And he slowed down at the end, just crazy
Wow! Well done mate!!
he ran 7.24 flat on the 3k without the big push he did on the last 200m of the 3 mile. Worldrecord is 7.20.67. He would be able to beat that official record too if he wants!!
Definitely. :) I hope he might try for the 5000m world record as well. For sure he'll smash his 12:48 Pb.

To me the record is insane. Haven't followed 2 miles elite men since Haile Gebresselassie was close hitting the 8 min mark. Time flies. Congrats to Ingebretsen, what an effort.
Running just ONE sub-4' mile is already spectacular, but TWO back to back?!
Great race and great commentary, very informative. Nice and calm not exitable.

This has to be science fiction, right? Stunning.
Jakob is so consistent, i can see many more world records being broken, it is great watching him run, its a pity mcsweyn is not further up, he hasnt been the same since the heart issue.

It was an amazing night of athletics!!
I’ve ran with Chelimo when he was a guest speaker for the Air Force Marathon!! Great guy!!
Munguti a top class pacing job in this race. Very important. As I recall, Komen ran much of his last mile alone, though I'm not sure how many laps.

Thanks for the full race upload! Not a bad commentary either. Just make sure you're avoiding dead air as much as possible
Thank you. Kinda didn’t want to go overboard and let the action do the talking 😂
Dead air is underrated. Seriously. No matter how expert the commentary, no one needs to be talked to for an entire race.
@@TheRunningShoeGuru nah mate you did great. Thank you
