  • It was the first track final on the second evening at the European Athletics Championships 2022 and the men's 5000m did not disappoint.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen was attempting an unprecedented double double, by winning consecutive 5000m and 1500m titles having won both in Berlin four years ago.
Norway’s Ingebrigtsen continued to show he’s the world’s No. 1 distance runner at the Olympic Stadium, chalking up his seventh overall European title across all surfaces in a time of 13:21.13.
Watch the full race replay here as Mohamed Katir and Yemaneberhan Crippa also collected medals!

Ingerbrigtsen shows real class. I like the way he doesn't panic he just knows what hes capable of. And at the end when a lot of other runners were strewn about the track he looked like he was ready to run again

I love watching races like this, with no commentary. Our US commentators feel like they have to say something every second or else viewers won't know what's going on. There's nothing as pure as a race to the finish, and it doesn't need to be explained within an inch of its life.

That's every country and every sport. The purpose of TV is somebody to provide the money to pay athletes. Companies will pay TV to advertise depending on how many people are watching whatever is on TV. Thus it makes sense to have an announcer who is explaining everything to those who don't have a clue since the Marc Weeks of the world only have to turn off the sound on their TV if they don't enjoy explanations... like everybody else. Some don't watch commercials either.

I don't know much about running, but I always look for how, when it's relatively tight but the favorite coasts at the end, how the 2nd place dude always gives him this glance. I think when someone is not happy with 2nd place, they feel a world apart from the winner. Ingebrigtsen was on the receiving end in Japan, I think. The English dude just had a great race. HE was angrier than this Spanish dude. That's why it's fun to watch Bol. She finishes and she just looks happy for no apparent reason.

Reminds me of Lasse Viren in that, that his running is very deceitful. One can not tell how fast he is actually going just by looking him. He looks like he is jogging at the same speed, even though in reality he is increasing speed quite a lot. I think he is increasing the length of the step, more than the pace of the steps. Very disturbing for the competitors. They think they are also jogging at the same speed, while in truth Ingebrigtsen is just squeezing all the juice out of them before the final straight, and then they realize that there's no sprint left in them.

@B45 Yes, an easy example of word splitting can be given by using the word "language" where we would have Lan Gu and Age!
When we take 'Lan' in its Chinese and Vietnamese context, it's actually a feminine name for "orchid"
But in Vietnamese with an accent over the a as LAN we actually have a different male context thus it changes this to the masculine context meaning "unicorn" coming from the creature that is called Ky Lan!
And this was a dragon type creature that was said to only protect the noble ones and it was also known as the 'Quilin' ridden by a 'Sage'
When Ky Lan is translated from Vietnamese to Latin we get the word "unicornis"
