I’ve been using Brambleghast on my VGC teams since Regulation B, namely to counter Pokémon like Annihilape, Flutter Mane, and Dondozo, but it also helped against Pokémon like Ting Lu in Regulation C. I first ran it on a Rain team with a bulky Pelipper who would set up Tailwind, which helped with the aforementioned Dondozo. Then I ran it as a lead with Gale Wings Talonflame, and in each series since I started playing in B it’s been a really reliable Pokémon. Flexible? Not really. Reliable? Absolutely. Now that it has Poltergeist I’m really excited to see where it’ll go.
Brambleghast's typing also resisted/was immune to Urshifu Rapid Strike, a super common offensive killer in reg D, while also threatening seed bomb or power whip to kill it.

I've always thought golem monsters were cool, so it was awesome seeing most of the Regis in Sword and Shield get some actual, viable usage. Plus the two new ones are also really cool.
@@supremechaosbeing2696 Admittedly never been huge of Golem, more so the Regis. IDK, even though Golem is turtle-like I've never been that big on it. Like more of the other rock monsters available like Tyrantiar, Gigalith, Garganacl, etc.
Toxicroak is one of my favorite pokemon of all time. He was never good, but I loved using him back in the weather wars of gen 5, and even in my rain team in gen 6. In gen 8, my first step into vgc style competitive, I was so happy how useful he was.
With how much competitive I played, it’s making me get a new appreciation for teambuilding for my fangame. Each encounter forces me to consider stuff like level, typings, abilities, items, movepools, base stats, natures, EVs, and IVs.
Excuse me, Heatran isn't a FROG, he's a TOAD. His funny waddle and weird metal warts? That man's a toad and I will not take this SLANDER towards the superior amphibian.
Wow, i started playing vgc back in 2020, (gen 8) and had no idea dynamic speed control wasn't a thing until then.... imagine using tailwind and having to wait till next turn to get the effects 😮
About articuno never being good, it was actually decent in gen 1 where ice types were actually pretty good thanks to blizzard being 120 base power and 90 accuracy, the types that would check it being significantly worse (both relevant rock types were also ground type making them ice weak, fire and fighting were really bad and steel didn't exist), and freeze being 100% permanent making their freeze immunity actually relevant. Articuno's stab blizzard is also (iirc) the single strongest unboosted special attack in the game, allowing it to 2hko tauros which is a notable feat, and while there are things that can switch into it pretty well most of them are terrified of the freeze, so you can use it as a big bulky beatstick that also has a chance of landing a freeze ohko. It's definitely not a top tier option but it's solid and quite fun to use
Yep, I ran it in a Pokemon Stadium mall tournament back in the day, and it only lost in the finals match where it came down to it versus Dugtrio. We both knew if Dugtrio missed, Articuno would win, while if it hit...my Articuno was ridiculously bulky, as I EV-trained the hell out of its HP and Defense back before I really knew that was a thing, just getting it from level 50 to 51 on low-level pokemon. It might have actually taken it. But he crit with Rock Slide, so GG.
For some strange reason, in Gen 8 UU, Articuno was also good as stall because there were plenty of good Water/Grass/Dragon types that it could hit with Freeze Dry, and it was somehow appropriately bulky such that it could use Heal Bell.
No, Guys you don't understand with the Zacian Nerf we need to pair it with Steely Spirit Perrseker to one shot with resisted behemoth blade. It will definitely happen.
In my opinion, Pachirisu was actually an incredible choice on Se Jun Park's part. Redirection was a rare trait, and would need to be used as support and disruption, which is Pachurisu's strength. Being able to use Follow Me in a metagame exclusive the the Kalos Regional Dex, and also being able to use Paralysis-inflicting moves like Nuzzle and Thunder Wave is a plus.
Back in the day when I knew nothing about competitive I remember hearing about pachirisu and thinking hell yeah dude won with his favorite, and now every time I hear about it I think hell yeah dude read the meta like a book and got a favorite mon out of it. And a Wolrds win but that's less important
I've always felt that despite having a pretty commendable place in some formats, Crobat is well deserving of some sort of stat buff. Nothing overly major though.
I believe he was referring to the combination of Volt Absorb with Follow Me, since clicking that move is pretty much that Pokémon's whole reason to exist.
Not in a competitive sense but Golbat is amazing in nuzlockes with its defensive typing and utility. If you get unlucky encounters from the mid game on, Crobat is still a solid investment with great attacking moves.
10:16 Articuno (and honestly the 3 legendary birds) could easily make good use of weather setting abilities. Give Articuno snow warning, Zapdos drizzle, and Moltres drought. Removing pressure (so they keep their HAs) would let them be more flexible options and let Moltres and Articuno have solid teambuilding considerations, while still keeping their original identity. Plus it just makes sense based off the lore of the birds, since they're signs of the seasons changing.
Alyernatively, just upgrade their HA to one that is a combined pressure + weather setter, since gamefreak likes those combination abilities these days.
