Another thing that made Regigigas from trash to broken is that it finally got access to Protect after nearly 15 years so it can more reliably stall its Slow Start
Stalling the slow start is not really an option in vgc because the opponent can just focus down the regigigas’s opponent when regi protects and attack regi the turn after it protects. But Protect is still nice because of its importance in doubles in general.
I love the fact that regigigas-weezing started more as a meme in the pre-crown thundra speculations, and everyone hoped it to be good but it seemed too cool to be true, but then the second DLC came out and it revealed itself to be super broken 😂
I've been doing this with a Slaking team, it's been a lot of fun. It's especially great if you're able to doodle an Intimidate, since it gives Intimidate to both Grafaiai and Slaking, triggering it twice and dropping the opponent's attack stats by 2 stages. Turn 1 I typically Bulk Up with Slaking and Taunt with Grafaiai, then turn 2 I Doodle with Grafaiai and start hammering away with Slaking's Drain Punches or Body Slams.
My favorite interaction of Grafaiai was when my opponent leads with Toarkoal + Hydraigon and I clicked to copy levitate and hit Toarkoal with Double switched Hydreigon for Skeriledge and I had superpower And he was like... "it was at this moment he knew he fucked up" Slaking was able to use a 120 move with no drawbacks Of course I was not able to hit earthquake but that was a pretty good sweep
I will say. Neutralizing Gas ALSO doesn't turn off Arceus' ability or RKS System, which is Silvally's ability. I actually tried using Weezing and Silvally for a little bit in Sword and Shield
Abilities that change form, are vital to a pokemon's function, utilize an item, or Calyrex combos for some reason can't be turned off This will be notable for gen 9 in that you can turn off the abilities of the ruin quartet, but you can't turn off paradox pokemon since they use the booster energy item. Another odd interaction is Koraidon and Miraidon, who like Calyrex you can't turn off their abilities
yeah it's just weird how the dev's like giving pokemon poor defenses with high HP for some reason, despite how this formula hasn't really worked out very well, for the most part
@@fishyfishyfishy500akabs8 It is not my fault GF doesn’t give them good speed or offensive stats to make up for its low bulk. But yes, that is the only way to prevent many pokemon from becoming unstoppable walls.
In Gen 5, Regigigas could have his ability cut of with Cofagrigus’s Mummy ability. It had a more complicated set-up than with Koffing’s Neutralizing Gas, but it’s definitely worth mentioning.
I guess the main benefit to that strategy is that even if the partner go down, Slow Start would remain shut off and Mummy could also get passed to anyone punching Regigigas.
Ever since Regigigas was introduced people have been coming up with ways to bypass slow start. I'm surprised Worry seed on Regi never got popular, Slow start is strangely missing from the list of abilities that it doesn't affect.
With confirmation that Weezing is coming back in the DLC's we can also see Toedscruels finally being able to do 100 Speed Spore And Slaking being able to crush with no Truant

@TrueBladeSoul it was used as an example. The top comment suggested Durant with Huge Power because ants are very strong relative to their body size, even though with a 109 base attack stat, that would translate to an absolutely massive attack stat. I brought up how Mega Mawile had the biggest attack stat in the game at the time despite only having 105 base attack. Just goes to show that Huge Power is a pretty crazy ability

Great video! Random thought, but it feels weird seeing Durant with Pelipper and Drifblim in a discussion about viability. Durant was never actually bad and could do something on occasion, very much unlike the other two; it was just very outclassed. Likewise, the main two bugs that shot it into the stratosphere in terms of viability were an indirect buff with Dynamax and a metagame which not only did not have mons directly outclassing its role, but also had few fire types outside of Arcanine

I feel like Vanilluxe could have also been mentioned alongside Gigalith as the pokemon that became a weather setter in gen 7 but ended up being outclassed in the long run (this time by Ninetales-A)
Iirc Vaniluxe got Snow Warning in Gen 8 tho
That said, I wouldnt say he is that outclassed, since it has less weaknesses than Ninetails
6:12 Yikes, you know you stink when you get a buff comparable to Pelipper and Torkoal and you are still considered the worst... And I am not talking about Gigalith. We didn't get 3 buffed Pokémon with weather abilities in gen 7, we got 4, with Vanilluxe getting Snow Warning.
There’s something about hearing sword dog being compared to automobiles that makes me so happy
5:37 '[torkoal] being the best sun setter beyond groudon' KORAIDON WOULD LIKE TO CONTEST THIS STATEMENT
That Regigigas gif is amazing
These are a great style of video for you. It works well
The curent slacking strat involves a certain posion painting monkey giving slacking a opponent ability
Unfortunately it's not particularly good
@@MoxieBoosted never said it was good
Regigigas lovers unite✊ one of my favorites that I wish didn’t get shafted😂😂
Sunflora has been pretty great in random singles. Specs leafstorm does like 80% into everything that resists it and it’s got decent coverage if you want a surprise nuke.
Gigalith sandroom team with dracovish got me alot of wins in gen 8
I love how regigigas's buff is not actually regigigas himself XD
thumbnail goes so hard
back in gen 6 i would run doubles with regigigas by simple beaming him turn 1 with a furret and rock polishing with regi. it was stupid fast and hit like a semi and had reliable staying power with drain punch
turning off an ability would just make slow start NOT set regigigas's stats up at the 5th turn. That's why there's no skill swap strats used with it
The entire Durant section has me in agony because of the time I encountered a shiny Durant in X while just doing my ingame playthrough and, not realizing its typing made it 4x weak to Fire (this was my first Pokémon game but I did already know what shinies are), tried to soften it up with Flamethrower.
I cannot think of Durant anymore without my horrific failure flashing in my mind.
Would neutralizing gas be good with toedscruel for a fast spore?
Does it outspeed breloom tho?
Edit: lol I just checked, yes it does. Lvl 50 Jolly toedscruel hits 167. Lvl 50 Jolly breloom only hits 137😅
Ok you have weezing and toad on field what then…like seriously what do they do lmao they have no offense
I run medicham with choice scarf and skill swap with a Tera ghost regigigas, Tera ghost prevents fake outs and also stops close combat/strong fighting moves, and when I skill swap I pivot medicham into grimmsnarl to set up barriers, it’s insane lol
