I find CdG Rouge to work beautifully in winter, too. Its frankincense note creates a deep, mystical tone to complement the mint and beets. The beets and mint are also vegetally and freshly bright like bright fresh snow on a sunny winter day. I'm crazy for Rouge. It was my first real conscious plunge into fragrances three years ago. Your mention of "zest" and quirkiness suits CdG Rouge very well. The beet note is like a dark cousin of citruses, with a an additional boost of brightness from the mint. It really is a work of genius.
I was in Guerlain’s Paris shop testing out the Jicky EdP, when a salesperson came up and asked if this would be a gift. When I said no, she took the tester and sprayed me around my neck a half dozen times. The trip back to the hotel on the metro was … interesting. When I got back to the hotel, I left the scarf I was wearing on the bed and went down to dinner. When I came back, my room smelled like what I imagined a room in a Belle Epoque brothel would smell like, the most overtly sexual scent I’ve ever smelled.

I do split seasons but will overlap often, much more militant on DAYTIME V Nighttime. No overlap there. LOVED YOUR EXPLANATION OF WHAT MAKES A SUMMER FRAGRANCE! Day and Night are just such different vibes and Summer Evening has always and continues to be the most difficult to pair with fragrance, both casual , formal and all the spots in between. You made me super curious of Rose de Jamal. Recently I find myself gravitating towards minty stuff, be a nice Moroccan mint tea or Moroccan mint scented handsoap. I decided to order soap and shower gel as well as going back to my scents/perfumes that contain the note of mint for a reevaluation. Sadly upon a quick search I couldn’t find samples of it or a discovery set of Les Indominables selections but maybe when I get time to look around I will find something (I am in the US). Great video, keep up the excellent work!
I am so glad I found your channel. I have known of you for years, mr being a perfume for decades before any blogs or Internet even existed. I do have a huge amount of perfumes, not just the old ones but also lots of new houses. Of course there are so many new houses being churned out every day and thus there are lots of fragrances that I have never smelled nor owned. Mr. P! I wish I had been able to catch this live! I’m just flipping out over your description of the JCE jasmine scent (sounds like something I need to wear). Please, please do a side by side with A La Nuit! That is always my question with any jasmine scent. You should do another best jasmine video! Or, alternative jasmines? Ooohhh…. I am sure it is going to be Jicky from the 19th century. It is one of my summer favourites. I love the oriental base in the warmth. The lavender, herbs and bergamotte provide the uplift it needs. But then I sometimes reach for Shalimar too on very hot days.
Excellent choice of topic. I find that scent progression in the summer is faster and perhaps that explains why complex, resinous and balsamic perfumes work well in warmer temperatures. When I started my journey in high-end perfumery I used to apply all sort of perfumes on all sorts of days. I learned the technical aspects much later. My first wearing of Amouage Journey Man was in the heat of the summer and it's so much more fun than wearing the same in the winter. I also get a lot of compliments when wearing Amouage Opus 6 in the summer and that's very labdanum heavy. Same for perfumes containing real oud - it's always warm in the Middle-East right? By contrast I find citrusy, floral and airy perfumes have a longer life on colder days. Some of my favourite summer alternatives are: Jo Malone French Lime (Linden) Blossom, Ormond Jayne Xi'an, Diptyque Tam Dao, Nicolai Cap Neroli and L'Artisan Timbuktu.

In summer, even more than the cooler months, how the perfume reacts to our skin is paramount to enjoyment. This voyage of perfume discovery is a delight but so many expensive distractions. I would recommend Rocabar for summer. Yes I am developing a soft spot for hay notes... Slightly spicy, a bit vanilla and benzoin sweet. Held back florals and a foresty base of pine and moss. A very kind natural smelling fragrance.
@@EyeByBrian Its longevity is not amazing, but not terrible either. Since it is one of the perfumes I mainly wear in summer its lasting time is usually shortened by the influence of heat too. I get 4-5 hours of conscious, perceivable wear out of it.
i absolutely adore "Whispered Myths" by Imaginary Authors - i find its cantaloupe/melon note amazingly authentic, and supremely engaging when ushering the oudy musk.
I wore Jicky for years in the EDP formula, in the same refill bottle that you have there. I would go through a bottle every 2-3 months. I recently bought a fresh EDP bottle with the bees on it and I immediately noticed a lack of civet. It’s REALLY obvious. When I sprayed my old EDP refill bottle the civet was present and correct. I’m not a reformulation queen but I found it very obvious. Has anyone else?
I know this is out of topic. But you don’t have a review of Eau sauvage parfum either on your blog or on RUclips. Is this a perfume you’re planning to review soon? Loved the top 10 video.
Bonsoir Monsieur Persolaise. J'aime toujours tes vidéos. Jicky was my introduction to Guerlain along with L’HUERE Blu. In reading it’s history, it’s been said that when it was introduced by Ami Guerlian that it was so shocking it was only used by men and only much later by women. So yes it was very daring to wear this fabulous iconic scent back then as it is now.
This was such a fun episode particularly the b-word slip up. 😂 Such a fantastic list, Mr. P! Lots to try from here. If you're still taking suggestions for top tens, it might be interesting to see a list of your favorite American brands. Although, as I type this, I wonder how feasible this is due to IFRA and all that. Thanks for a wonderful episode, as always!
Just returned from a 2 week holiday in Italy, and Carnal Flower was the one perfume that I wore for the entire trip! Agree that it is perfect for summer with its coconut & eucalyptus notes. I also really enjoy a good frankincense fragrance in the summertime, too :)
You came around to Rose du Jamal 😊 My biggest critique of Les Indemodables is their naming. I had a similar experience that I had to forget the names on most of them in order to get them. Fougere Emeraude is really an innovative take on tuberose, the Chypre Azural is not a chypre but a great orange...Cuir de Chine and Iris Perle are exceptions.
I first put on Organza Indecence on a really hot summer day and I loved it! Then I realized I liked other sweeter perfumes in the high heat too. Some of these I wouldn’t actually like in cooler weather like most people would. Seems that the heat enhances those sweeter, heavier, or richer aspects and just makes the perfume more about that which weirdly worked for me.
I am really enjoying a decant of Frangipani from O.Jayne at the moment with 35 degrees centigrade. Somehow I feel it much more tropical and "banana fresh" in the heat.
Funny, I just tried Rose de Jamal before watching this. I was thinking the same thing - that I’ll need some more time with it. I dislike mint in general, but the dry down was good.
I have never smelled Jicky but it sounds very intersting. Would you happen to know if newer batches are even worth trying, or has it changed so much that its not even the same scent anymore?
CdG 2 Man is my pick for an usual amber scent for the summer - love it in the evening. For something more recent I’ve been enjoying Ambre Supreme by Les Indomedables - it’s almost like a perfume in reverse in that the top is floral and aldehydic and the base is marine.

How do you find the performance of Rocabar? I have a ‘blanket’ bottle and find its longevity to be frustratingly brief.

I’d say it’s still in pretty good shape.
I’ve made so many separate comments on here as things come to mind! Another one I enjoy in heat is a thick ambery patchouli.

Hiram Green Slowdive is a great non-animalic honey. It smells warm to me - like actually warm in temperature.
