Have to add a note of advice for those who hope to befriend No.5. Wear a dab of No.5 edp on your shoulders and under a cotton shirt. Shoulders perspire less than other areas of the body, so fragrance gets less distorted in that spot, and stays true to its essence. When I did that with No.5, it blew my mind, and I've adored No.5 ever since. Still, my real favorite is Eau Premiere. It is a modernized, more citrusy No.5. Love it. I could watch this video a hundred times. Thank you Persolaise.
These Chanel videos just do not get old; I don't care how many you have done. And, of course, thank you for including Cristalle and 19, as always! I am so paranoid that they may be doing away with both, though I am hoping their inventory issues stem from the supply chain challenges COVID has presented!
Oh no! Missed this one! Of all the ones to miss! Chanel Top Ten! 1. No. 5 2. No. 19 3. 31 Rue Cambon 4. Cuir de Russie 5. Le Lion 6. No. 22 7. Coromandel 8. 1932 9. 1957 10. Beige Long Live the Geeks! And yes, Mr. P, you were made to wear velvet!
Le Lion is the most mesmerising Amber fragrance I have ever experienced. It is both rich & dark with a definite animalistic quality that is never brash or harsh. Just very smooth as all all the great Chanel’s are
Love this video - bit late to the party on this one. My absolute favourites are Cristalle 💗, No 19, Coco (the EDT over the EDP) and no 5. Wearing Cristalle now. I hope we continue to see Cristalle and No 19 for decades to come. Never found No 19 cold - I've always associated it with capable, cool, smart women who aren't looking for any outside affirmations - a confident scent.
Persolaise, your top 10 Chanel list was enjoyable to watch. Chanel fragrances are epic as are your fragrance reviews. You are the perfect person to do this video.
Loved this episode so much and so happy that my favourite Le Lion was right up there . It’s exquisite and so glad that I bought it as I knew I would love it.
Thank you for the shout out to Krzysztof Kieślowski. Matching the character of a Chanel fragrance to a Kieślowski character equals big joy for this fan of both. With cinema sharing space with perfume in your creative scope, it would be fun to have your do more movie/scent match-ups.
I would like to see a video on the subject of your fragrance journey, from the moment (and perfume) that got you rolling, through all the various steps (some faltering, I imagine) on the way to where you are now. Many thanks for thoughtful and informative videos. Doc
Thanks for this. I don’t like spending too much time talking about myself in my videos, but you might find this helpful: ruclips.net/video/c87HxTSUct0/видео.html
I was happy you included Cristalle. Still available in Switzerland too. I only love the EdT, it's opening is magic and uplifting. I'm besotted with Coco. I find it's unique and quite unsual for Chanel. Personally I can see the similarities but I find Opium smells dated while Coco is timeless. I prefer the EdT to EdP but I've heard the parfum is the best.
Coco was my gateway into Chanel, I want to love it now but it just reminds me of my younger years . Love Chanel No. 5 one of my all time favs I wore Coco mademoiselle for nearly two decades as my signature scent but I have graduated in my fifties….lol Recently blown through half a bottle of Chanel beige which I am absolutely enamoured with can’t get enough of this scent. Almost forgot that I purchased Coromandel based on your referral last winter …..wore it all winter long it is such a comforting beautiful winter scent I can’t get enough of it . Oh just recent smelt Paris Paris and that is my next buy, LOVE the patchouli sophistication of this scent. This was a great video thanks so much really enjoyed it I also have to agree love the shirt👍❤️
Wonderful video. Absolutely seated lion with Le Lion. When I wear it, it always makes me feel that there's a lion in the room, at the corner, seated and majestic. Brilliant stuff. Looking forward to discovering more of the Les Exclusifs.
I adore Coco, don't care for the lavender note in Coco Noir. Imho, Coco one upped Opium. It is balanced and refined, a Chanelified Opium for those of us who don't need a brick of cloves, and who get happy from the wafts of ylang ylang as Coco dries down. And yes, if you are wearing it in warm weather, it is not as much fun. Coco, and Opium are strictly for cold weather. Thanks for your great videos.
Thank you for yet another inspiring video and top 10! I wonder what you think of Allure, formerly my signature scent (EDT). I find it so Chanel and so elegant, sunny, fruity in the opening, beautiful! 😍
Please dear Persolaise, do smell Liu by Guerlain since you like no 5 so much. It’s just magical and since it’s not widely known I’m afraid it might disappear. That can never happen! If you’re not able to smell it anywhere I might just have to send you a little.
I have worn no19 for decades. Still love it to its. Bought coromandel because of you and love that aswell. Next on list to buy is no. 22. Sniffed it at duty free.... surprised how much I like it. No 5 is growing on me, I really like the l’eau. Bel respiro and Le Lion were too much for me. Intrigued to try Crystals Great video from awesome house.
So sorry I missed this one !! I'm in the middle of a house move just now, but can't wait to get back to normal and resume my regular Persolaise YT watching 😉
Just finished a move from Ohio to Texas and have been very busy. Trying to catch up with your videos. Chanel No.5 is my life long favorite. I have Coco, Coco Noir, Coco M, Allure, but No.5 is the one. No.19 was my very first fragrance as a teenager.
Tried Chanel No 19 again on my skin right after your video (because I really do want to like it) and strangely enough it smells pretty good on my skin today. I don’t know if I should be deleting my comment from the chat now… I’m really puzzled and starting to believe now that temperature and humidity really do influence how a perfume smells on the skin. I always thought the difference was either minor or imagined. However, in the winter the smell was unbearable on me (though not so on paper).
Today i tested Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme, really enjoyed the warm cozy tonka drydown. Better than most modern designers honestly. Also need to get myself a bottle of 19 EDP.
I have several Chanel LOVES in my collection but if I have to choose the top spot it definitely goes to no 19 vintage extrait... It's austere and commanding and brilliant... Perfectly unisex and captivating from start to finish...!! Also adore VINTAGE pour monsieur EDT (the current formulations are rubbish) and égoïste (vintage if possible, cologne concentrée even more if possible, though the current one is good!)...
This video prompted some self-reflection -- so thank you Persolaise. I realized that I only knew a couple of Chanel fragrances but had a prejudice because of an ill-judged purchase of Chance (I was seduced the bottle) which I came to loathe. So with a more open mind, I stepped inside Chicago's Chanel boutique recently to try a few things. Bel Respiro - nice but too floral. Surprised that I liked Boy! Most impressed by Coromondel (still not for me, but how beautiful) and Cuir de Russie. I think that I could get there with CdR, which would be nice in the cold Midwestern winters. On same perfume trip, I became aware of new Italian niche brand, Meo Fusciuni, with its Spirito impressing.
Aaah such a shame I missed most of this live Top 10 episode… would have loved to participate since Chanel is one of my favourite brands. Really really enjoyed the playback though so thank you very much! There just so much to talk about. I just finished listening to 'The Secret of Chanel No. 5' by Tilar Mazzeo... fascinating story or stories really, as the book is about so much more than just No. 5. Well: à la prochaine, as those Frenchies say! ;)
Very spooky - I was only looking for your video on this subject a couple of days ago. I was disappointed there wasn’t one so am very thankful for this!
Oh this was fun. I really adore so many Chanels. My favorites evolve but at the moment I am most obsessed with Misia and 31 RC. Coromandel has always been a favorite. I own Cuir, BdI, Jersey, Sycomore, 1932, 5, Deauville, Allure, Egoiste.. Chance was my first grown up perfume so maybe it all started there. They endlessly interest me in all formulations though I’ve really not tried the extraits. I best not open that can of worms 💰
Another great episode, thank you! Guerlain, Hermes, Dior, Tom Ford and L' Artisan Parfumeur would deserve your Top 5/7/10 for sure! I also realised your amazing Top 7 of Frederic Malle is missing on your ''Best Perfumes By Brand'' list! And what about your best fruity (fruity/floral) or sandalwood perfumes?
le lion is the only one on your list i have now. i bought it not long ago, and perhaps this is the first and only perfume with strong scent. i didnt know i would love it, as its not typical scent i like..not floral and very powerful spicy scent. but i love it, seriously love it. the only problem is that its hard to find an occasion to wear it as its too powerful 😂
i was _sure_ allure homme was going to be on this list... its the only chanel perfume i had and the most gorgeous scent among all the other ones ive tried and had (my top 3 from all time would be dior homme the original scent and ysl l'homme)... Now i cant wait to try some of these!
Wonderful video! Shame that in the US I haven't been able to get a hold of Pour Monsieur edt. The edp is too heavy of a fougere to me. My favorite Chanels are Bois des Iles, 31 Rue Cambon, Cuir de Russie, Coromandel, and versions of No. 5. I really love No.19 Poudre as a safe "office scent" when I have to behave but I still want to wear something interesting. I still need to work on getting used to the colder versions of No. 19. I admire it but struggle to own it on my skin. Intrigued by the new Coco Mademoiselle / Chance layering concept, though Im not really a fan of either.
Oh dear! I may have just bought Le Lion based entirely upon your two videos about Les Exclusifs. I love Chanel perfumes and have yet to encounter one that doesn't make me swoon, but it was a tough decision between Le Lion and Coromandel. Time will tell as I have to wait seven days for delivery.
@@Persolaise I most definitely will! I'm loving your reviews and suspect that our noses both like the same kinds of smells. I'm about to watch your latest now. Thank you!

Hello from CT, USA…how close does the new Paris Paris les eaux, come to this top 10 list? This Chanel addict would love your spin on this. Thank you😘P.S…Chanel…just go ahead and bring all your fragrances in a liter bottle😆
I understand that your channel doesn't focus on discussing individual perfumery ingredients, but would you be willing to enlighten us on the raw material, Boronia?
I was wondering what book on perfume you would most recommend. I'm looking for a rich visual history of fragrance with lots of geeky facts similar to an advanced DK book. Hopefully it would span many brands and have lots of historical writing of the perfumers. Have you any books like this to recommend? Thanks!
Are you using the youtube app? When I go on youtube via the internet browser it does not give me a chat option either. On the app the chat usually opens as soon as you click on the video. And then there is a chat icon too.
So you go via your internet browser. Download the youtube app onto your phone and go onto the livestream from there. You will be able to participate in the chat.
Mr. P, the sandalwood addict here to tell you that I don't think you have done a sandlewood video - at least I haven't been able to find one. Would be a fabulous addition to your body of work here on RUclips, don't you think? Just sayin! 👏👏👏🙂 BTW - would you believe I've never ever smelled a Chanel perfume - in my life? Not on purpose or anything - somehow just haven't. Talk about being late to the party!
@@Persolaise This year is the first year I've really gotten into perfumes so here's my plan: just before Mother's Day and just before my birthday in July - I'm there - at the Chanel counter - sniffing and deciding. I'm intrigued by your passion for #5 and Coromandel and would you say, Mr. P, for a sandalwood/ wood/amber lover like me - Ile de Bois - might be one to focus on?
It’s hard to get your hands on Chanel samples without going to a retailer and even then it’s at their benevolence and belief that you look fancy enough to ultimately buy a bottle. I’d suggest Facebook perfume groups where people can decant or sell you samples.
@@Persolaise The entire line of Les Exclusifs, parfum concentrations are gone. Bois des Iles, Cuir Des Russie , No22, etc… They’re all gone! I’m broken hearted and angry .

@Persolaise Can Le Lion be really already reformulated? It is hard to imagine.
I find that a bit hard to believe too.

Thanks very much for watching 😊
Hello Persolaise, how do I join in the chat during a live stream? I tried but couldn't find an option. Thanks!
I thought you just had to type in a comment.
Are you using the youtube app? When I go on youtube via the internet browser it does not give me a chat option either. On the app the chat usually opens as soon as you click on the video. And then there is a chat icon too.
I'm going onto RUclips's website from my android off of chrome.
So you go via your internet browser. Download the youtube app onto your phone and go onto the livestream from there. You will be able to participate in the chat.
Thanks for taking the time to do this, Heinke.
I’ll have to add sandalwood to the list. And you’ve certainly got a few treats in store with Chanel.
@@scp5577 Definitely Bois Des Iles, but also Egoiste and Allure Sensuelle. Enjoy!
@@Persolaise Thank you!
@@Persolaise ...and right right...I got it backwards...Bois Des Iles...😅
Can anyone suggest the best way to get samples of chanels? in EU? thanks!
Perhaps someone reading this will be able to help.
It’s hard to get your hands on Chanel samples without going to a retailer and even then it’s at their benevolence and belief that you look fancy enough to ultimately buy a bottle. I’d suggest Facebook perfume groups where people can decant or sell you samples.
@@lisaesposito7317 thanks for the help Lisa.
Lucas Turin very famously made the wire mother comment re No 19.
Ah, I didn’t know that.
@@Persolaise 💜
Gardenia ??
Not on this list, I'm afraid.
@@Persolaise I ve just bought it without ever smelling it 😬 fingers crossed
💫
😊
Sadly, no more 22 parfum 😭
Has it really been discontinued?
@@Persolaise The entire line of Les Exclusifs, parfum concentrations are gone. Bois des Iles, Cuir Des Russie , No22, etc… They’re all gone! I’m broken hearted and angry .
