I may be late to your Fred Malle party (fashionably so, natch) but I’m so pleased the lovely Mdme Fleur de Cassie made it to your utterly brilliant list. My 4yr old grandson LOVES me wearing this and squeals with delight saying “Grannie has Cassie on!” In winter when I wear Iris Poudre he asks me for a little spray on his jumper! The kid has clearly got great taste AND, like your good self, a good nose!
@@Persolaise well now how lovely of you to reply, thank you! Based on your excellent review of En Passant I pulled the trigger and as a lilac lover I bought a BIG one. So grandson and I were walking under the Linden trees in full bloom and he said it smells like your perfume. And by George he’s right, there’s a very distinctive linden flower blossom note in the dry down. I know it’s not listed in the composition but it’s absolutely a passing (the en passant) whiff of the lovely linden flowers. They’re in full bloom right now so please grab a sniff since I’d love to know if you agree with my grandboy (now renamed Little Nose) and I?

After thinking that I was well versed in the FM portfolio, I reached for Une Fleur De Cassie today after realizing that I had never sampled it, and I was immediately floored! It is simply a stoke of genius through and through. Retro yes, but I think only in the class and gravitas that the composition exudes. It still somehow passes a subtle and crafty wink at an undefined modernity. This, like all masterpieces, is a work that demands contemplation. I must have in my collection.
I'm a very recent subscriber to your channel having heard Alice du Parc and Caroline Hirons wax lyrical about you. I'm very intrigued to sample Iris Poudre, heard a lot of good things about it. This is the first time I watch your channel, Mr. Persolaise. Love your classy but easy-going persona, looking forward to hearing more from you, and thus I'm subscribed! :)
I adore Lipstick Rose especially for the memory it evokes. It reminds me of sitting on my mothers bed in the 1960's observing her whilst she was getting ready to go out. Her coiffured hair and a particular bright orange lipstick with an intense fragrance...... So interesting it evoked similar memories for you 💋🍸
The way you are talking about Noir Epices makes me think of Serge Lutens Five O'clock Au Gingembre. I bought Five O'Clock at the gorgeous Senteurs d'Ailleurs shop in Brussels. I don't wear it personally, but I'm absolutely addicted to smelling it on my husband. I swoon every time.

I met Frederic Malle over 15 years ago, in San Francisco and while elegant, he was very pleasant and easy to speak to.
So… I purchased my first FM blindly (only 24 years late) -from this review- because I have a growing collection of extraordinary perfumes via Monsieur Persolaise (it has only been a few months). Une Fleur de Cassie arrived today. It is yet another work of art. It does remind me of the Beautiful I last wore 30 years ago but it feels darker and more addictive. I see a cut crystal tumbler fragrant with a few petals stuck to the heady residue of last night’s liqueur.
I finally have a bottle of one of my favorite perfumes of my life so far (Musc Ravageur🥰). And thanks to the perfume sample that came with my purchase, I know which Frederic Malle perfume I'm going to buy next (Portrait of a Lady ✨🔥❤️)! Thank you so much for taking your time to share your knowledge with us! 🙏
I'm pretty tickled to see my entire collection of Malles in your top ten! The only omissions on my end are En Passant (to be remedied, still) and Dries van Noten. Of course, PoaL is present, too.
I buy the discovery set because I was so sure to buy Canal Flower and th Lady but I fall in love with En Passant Is a Beautiful Lady happy with life in a bright Sunday
The muse for Carnal flower was Malle’s Aunt Candice Bergen who I absolutely adore and a reference to her film Carnal Knowledge’ however I can’t imagine her wearing this but as she’s extremely funny as well as beautiful and a big personality’ maybe it does suit her .
I love the waxy, sweet smell of a good Chanel lipstick, which are rose scented. Other “lipstick” fragrances have missed the mark IMO. I must order a sample of lipstick rose and see if it’s a winner.
Loved this review my fave from the brand is musc ravageur I also own fleur de Cassie & carnal flower i wanted so much to like tuberose but sadly it doesn't like me so i sold carnal flower the only others that pique my interest are lipstick rose & Dries van noten I can't stand portrait of a lady

I've seen people say Noir Epices is almost a completely different fragrance now. I've never compared them myself as I only had access to the recent stuff. I still adore both.
Just tried the rest of my sample box and love French Lover ‘ Monsieur ‘ enpassant and am completely enslaved by Musc ravageur . Many thanks for watching, Sharon. Well, I’m not sure what it says about us, but I was also less smitten with Misia than with Lipstick Rose. I think there’s a ‘density’ to Misia that makes it a bit standoffish, somehow. I love the cleverness of LR: the fact that it doesn’t feel the need to try too hard.

Mr. P - Sujata here. I'm distraught today so I decided to ask you - as I've come to truly trust your honesty and sincerity - and your knowledge and expertise about perfumes. I've begun a slow foray into the iconic House of Malle - and very recently sent away for samples of the perfumes that most intrigue me - especially POAL. BUT. I only today watched a RUclips video where the reviewer argues that since the 2015 Estée Lauder takeover of Frederic Malle's creations - fragrances like Noir Epices (one of the ones that I'm intrigued by) have been reformulated - so we should look for the vintage versions if we really want the real deal. Is this true??? Because if it is - yikes - and ugh. It makes the whole journey that much more difficult and way more expensive than it already is!
I know that a lot has been said about post-Lauder-purchase reformulations, but I personally don’t know for a fact whether all of that is true. I’d say the best thing would be to get samples of the scents and just see if you enjoy them.
@@Persolaise - that's exactly what I've done, Mr. P. Thank you. I truly appreciate you taking the time to respond to and help out a novice like me! You are a true gentleman!
At first, the name alone scared me off of Musclewoman Ravageur, because I am not much of a musk person, but I was pleasantly surprised to love it to death. I tend to love ambers, and this definitely feels ambery to me.
Musc Ravageur in Le Male's body is exactly how I would imagine it! This would be the smell of messy jersey sheets, in an otherwise clean and dark, monochromatic, bedroom.
Aww just missed this:/. Gonna watch again later as I love co-sniffing with your reviews. My favourite Malle-s are Therese, IP, Portrait and Carnal Flower... LR's waxy sidenotes are also delightful. What a grand house, these scents all just seem to make you wanna write haikus about them, right:)? Thanks, great video again! I find such comfort in your reviews, esp. nowadays.
I thought Promise would have been in there! Its the most strongest/longevity fragrance that ive ever had, smells great too, have you got a review of Promise on your channel? I cant find it. Thankyou
Hi Persolaise, I decided to rewatch this because it has been a while since you’ve done a review list on F.M. Since the acquisition, I’d be curious to see where you stand on the “post Frederic” brand. I’m still disappointed that he sold this collection of wondrous curation, but I guess all good things wind down. Where does this brand go from here? Acne studios was awful and Uncut Gem… boring. Do you think they’ll develop new scents in the post Frederic era?? Do they need a creative director a la Amouage to reinvigorate interest?😢
Believe it or not, the whole post-Lauder question is something I think about quite often. I'm not sure what'll happen with the brand now. I suspect it'll have a creative director, as Le Labo does. In fact, it may have one already.
Revisiting one of your older but important videos in the universe, I have been meaning to ask you if you are at all familiar w/ YSL's Champagne, old name, now called Yvresse (drunkenness)? It came out in the 90's and I can't understand why it was so underrepresented b/c it reminds me SO much of Malle's Lipstick Rose, bubbly, creamy, elegant, and oh so chic! YSL got into legal hot water w/ the Champagne gods of trademark infringement hence the name change 🤔 . In fact b/c it's difficult to find these days, my backup is Lipstick Rose. Thoughts? 🙏
I remember the launch of Champagne very well indeed (in fact, I'm pretty sure my mum has an old bottle with the original Champagne name!) but I can't recall the smell. I seem to think it was based on mimosa. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for the review! I love Carnal Flower, but it disappears quickly from my skin- is it just me, or has longevity been affected due to reformulation?
My number one for this house keeps changing somehow. How can I not me tion Carnal Flower, POAL (& the Night!), Musc Ravageur, or (even) the modern Rose & Cuir-and, in fact, the list goes on. But let’s do that: I’ll take Une de Fleur Cassie by day, and Une Rose by night (:
only tried (full wearings) two malles : poal and carnal flower and didnt like either. though to be fair i sniffed one from the bottle in a store and really liked it, but forgot the name ,was one of the arab themed ones
The former name of Fils de Dieu was either Filipino House Boy or Filipino Pool Boy. viz an Elton John or Liberace-type campy old queen lounging on a deck chair with a cocktail by the pool at a mansion, with a nubile , slim, hairless servant-boy on hand whose 'uniform' is just a g-string, and fanning his master with a palm tree frond.
Musc Ravagueur was my love a first sniff, and the Magnolia was interesting but when I have 10 more year, the Lady I think a lot a perfums that I use or small in others and carnal small like the flower markers in my country México I didn't like it small like millions of flower I didn't wanted to smell like a flower market and
I have to admit, Musc Ravageur smells straight up disgusting to me, i cannot stand it😂, but i love the floral side of FM, Iris Poudre, Lys Mediteranee, Eau de Magnolia, Carnal Flower...big loves...

At first, the name alone scared me off of Musclewoman Ravageur, because I am not much of a musk person, but I was pleasantly surprised to love it to death. I tend to love ambers, and this definitely feels ambery to me.
Yes, it is a classic amber in many ways. An update of Shalimar.
Thanks for watching.
@@Persolaise I am really liking your channel. I love how you interact with people, and it is amazing how you describe scent.
Thank you 😊
Is musc ravageur good to wear for casual with jeans and hoodies ?
Musc Ravageur in Le Male's body is exactly how I would imagine it! This would be the smell of messy jersey sheets, in an otherwise clean and dark, monochromatic, bedroom.
It’s interesting to try to imagine it in a different bottle.
Thanks for watching.
Nice review ❤...I wonder how similar is lipstick rose to lipstick on by maison margiela and is it worth having both?
Thanks very much for watching. I think the Malle is a more interesting piece of work.
I find such comfort in your reviews, esp. nowadays.
That’s really very kind, thank you. I’m glad the videos can be helpful in some way. And I love Therese too 😊
I thought Promise would have been in there! Its the most strongest/longevity fragrance that ive ever had, smells great too, have you got a review of Promise on your channel? I cant find it. Thankyou
Thanks for watching. I reviewed Promise over on Persolaise.com
Persolaise Perfumes ok thankyou
I cant too accept this promise I buy another 3ml sample is hard to like hmm need to wear more
Hi Persolaise,
I decided to rewatch this because it has been a while since you’ve done a review list on F.M.
Any plans to do more of these?
I absolutely want to -- it's a question of finding the time :-(
Any brand suggestions?
@@Persolaise mona di Orio, Rosendo mateu, floris, Profumum Roma, bois 1920, Carner Barcelona.
The carner and mona "cuir" fragrances are miniature haves if you like leather scents
Thank you.
Thanks for the review! I love Carnal Flower, but it disappears quickly from my skin- is it just me, or has longevity been affected due to reformulation?
I honestly don’t know. I suppose there’s a chance it’s been reformulated.
Thanks for watching.
It is quite difficult with Malle 😉
Many thanks for watching.
Is this house good for young men and for with jeans, especially musc ravageur
only tried (full wearings) two malles : poal and carnal flower and didnt like either. though to be fair i sniffed one from the bottle in a store and really liked it, but forgot the name ,was one of the arab themed ones
Ah, you should go back and find out which one it was.
Thanks for watching.
Oh I’ve missed you.
Thanks for watching.
are the flowers beside you plastic?
Those ones are artificial, yes.
Yup!
Thanks for watching.
Musc Ravagueur was my love a first sniff, and the Magnolia was interesting but when I have 10 more year, the Lady I think a lot a perfums that I use or small in others and carnal small like the flower markers in my country México I didn't like it small like millions of flower I didn't wanted to smell like a flower market and
Thanks for watching.
You prefer Iris Poudre over Lipstick Rose?
If I had to pick one, then yes. But I love them both.
I have to admit, Musc Ravageur smells straight up disgusting to me, i cannot stand it😂, but i love the floral side of FM, Iris Poudre, Lys Mediteranee, Eau de Magnolia, Carnal Flower...big loves...
Interesting. Some people can’t take it, and some find it soft and cuddly.
Listening to you is the adult version of storytelling time at night when I was a kid. Thank you! I’m sure everybody has saw this video but for the few that haven’t, it’s a treat: ruclips.net/video/XwtCbVhhGfg/видео.htmlsi=dipRzhSQgw1lW31l
Thank you very much. And thanks for the link. It's great to be reminded of that video.

Only the best for my audience 😉
Thank you so much for watching.

Thanks for watching.
46:30..yes but Luca Turin is just a joke who wants to get attention from his strong opinions. Don't take him seriously!
I always appreciate reading his views. But I don’t take them as gospel.
Thanks for watching.
Had no idea Lauder now owns FM, yikes!! Not a fan of their politics at all......Darn, now have to prioritise between my love of perfume and/or right and wrong in the world.😩.
Maybe you can tell yourself that they allow their subsidiary brands a great deal of independence...?
I watched the entire video on the toilet. It was so compelling I forgot to poop! (Sorry, everyone. TMI Sunday).
I literally have no clue how to reply.
Thanks for watching... sorry I messed up your digestive system.
@@Persolaise Hahahaha. It was worth it. And you'll be very gratified to learn I managed to void my bowels quite satisfactorily thereafter. Perfumes and a good evacuation! Such are the balms of life! Yay!
